Chapter Twelve

Mitchie return to her cabin that she shares with Caitlyn. When she walks in, she notices the room was dark and assumes that Caitlyn was asleep. Quietly, she walks over to her bed and laying down in it.

"I'm going to talk to Caitlyn tomorrow," She thought before falling asleep, unaware that Caitlyn was still awake.

Earlier before Mitchie walked in, Caitlyn was having trouble going to sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about the kiss she had with Nate. What does it mean? Does he like her or is he using her to take his mind off of Dana? She knew Dana like Nate, who felt the same way. So why was he kissing her when he has feeling for Dana. That was confusing her and made her upset. Right when she had made a promise to herself that she wouldn't have feeling for Nate and just be friend with him, Nate kissed her. To make it more shocking, she responded back to kiss. All that feeling that she felt for Nate was coming right back into her heart.

She placed one of her hand on her lip and reminiscence the kiss she had with Nate. It was her first kiss and Nate was the one that she wanted her first kiss to be with. She admits the kiss was great and unforgettable.

"No Caitlyn, you can't have feeling for Nate," She shakes the thoughts of the kiss she had with Nate out of her mind. "Don't be stupid, he doesn't like you. That kiss was nothing. Don't think too much about it," She reminded herself.

Making her decision, she decides to not think about the kiss and pretend that it didn't happen at all. She closes her eyes and went to sleep.

Caitlyn was finished teaching her class and was walking toward the cafeteria. On her way there, she notices Nate and Shane was walking toward the cafeteria in the opposite direction of her.

Not wanting to see Nate, Caitlyn turned back around and head back toward the cabin when she bumps into someone.

"Sorry," She apologizes quickly and was about to leave when a hand grabs her arm, stopping her.

"Caitlyn?"

"Alex?" She looked up and was surprised to see him.

"What's wrong? Why are you in a hurry?" He questioned.

"Uh?" She looked over his shoulder and notices Shane and Nate were glancing over at her direction. Quickly, she hid from their view.

"Weren't just you planning to go in the cafeteria?" He asked, glancing over his shoulder at her.

"Yes," She kept her voice low. "But, I change my mind".

Alex raises his eyebrow in suspicion and notices that his cousin was hiding from someone. Curious, he glances back to see Nate and Shane staring at him, only to get pull back by Caitlyn, who was using his body as a shield.

"Oh," he smirked. "You are hiding for that cute boy, what is his name," He put his hand under his chin and thinks.

"His name is Nate, now please help me," she muttered to where he can hear her. She was gripping on his shirt tight.

"Fine, but can you let go of my shirt so I can look to see if Nate and Shane are gone".

Caitlyn sighs and let go of his shirt. Alex turned around to look and notices that Shane and Nate had already left inside.

"Relax, they left inside already," He turned to her. "Now, can you tell me what's going on?"

"It nothing," She turned and walked away from him.

As he watches her leave, he begins to wonder what happen between her and Nate. Wanting some answers, he decides to go and have a chat with Nate.

Nate was walking toward the cafeteria. All day, he hasn't seen Caitlyn and wonder if she was avoiding him because of what happen. He really wants to see her and talk to her. When he kissed her, he felt her respond back, which mean that she does has feeling for him, but why would she avoid him.

A hand taps his shoulder, startling him. He turned and saw Shane next to him. "Don't do that".

"Sorry," Shane smiles. "So, how did it go?"

"Nothing," he replied in annoyance. "I haven't seen her all day".

"Maybe she's avoiding you," Shane assumed and Nate glares him. Shane right, Caitlyn must have been avoiding him and not want to talk to him.

"Why would she avoid me?" He questioned.

"I don't know, maybe she need time to think about what happen between you two," Shane said, trying to comfort Nate, who was not happy.

"You're probably right," Nate sighs, knowing that Shane was right. Still, he was hoping that he would see her so that he could talk to her.

Shane pats Nate's back. "Don't worried Nate, give her some time and maybe she will talk to you".

They continue to walk toward the cafeteria when they spot Alex was talking to someone who they couldn't see because Alex was shielding them.

"Hey, why don't you go ask Alex if he has seen Caitlyn?" Shane suggests and Nate shook his head.

"I don't think it a good idea, plus I don't think he knows about me kissing Caitlyn".

"Oh yeah," Shane nodded and smirks. "He probably pounds you or strangles you if he finds out. I can already picture it in my..." He stopped talking when he notices Nate was glaring at him.

"Not funny," Nate said before he and Shane walked inside into the cafeteria.

In the cafeteria, Mitchie was already waiting for them at the table. Shane sat down beside her while Nate sat down across from her.

"Hey," Shane beamed at his girlfriend, wrapping his arm around her.

"Hi," She cheerfully replied and then looked over at Nate.

"So, did you talk to Caitlyn?" She asked, wanting to know if everything is ok between Caitlyn and Nate.

Nate sighs and shook his head.

"What? Why not?" Mitchie said, sounding a bit upset that Nate didn't talk to Caitlyn.

"How can he talk to her when she has been avoiding him all day?" Shane told her, helping his brother out.

"Oh," Mitchie says with understanding and knew full well why Caitlyn was avoiding Nate, not wanting to talk to him. "Just give her some space for now".

Nate nodded and continues to eat his food when Alex sat down beside him, surprising him, Shane, and Mitchie.

"Hey Alex," Mitchie and Shane greet him with a smile.

"Hey," He nodded at them with a smile and turn to Nate. "So, mind telling what's going on with you and Caitlyn".

"Nothing," Nate replied without looking at him.

"Nothing," Alex folds his arms. "Doesn't seem like nothing to me because I saw Caitlyn earlier and she doesn't seem happy".

Nate quickly turned to him and Shane and Mitchie look at each other worried.

"I know something happen between you and Caitlyn that she refuse to see you." Alex says, not sounding happy.

"You saw Caitlyn today?" Shane asked, changing to subject, hoping to distract Alex from questioning Nate further.

"Yeah I did"

Shane turned to Mitchie, who spokes up, helping him out. "Was she's alright? She asked.

"Not sure".

"Maybe we should talk to her," Mitchie suggests as she got up, went over and grabbed Alex's arm. "Come on". She got him up and drags him toward to door.

"But..." He glances back at Nate, who eyes were still on his plate. "I..."

He wasn't done talking to Nate because he really wants to know what happen.

Shane watches Mitchie left out the door with Alex, giving him a smile. He was glad that Alex has left and didn't question Nate about Caitlyn. He was afraid that Nate and Alex would start fight and that would cause problem.

Outside the Cafeteria

"Mitchie, What are you doing?" Alex asked as he was begin dragged down the step.

Mitchie stopped walking and let go out his arm. She turned round and looked at him. "Was trying to stop you and Nate?"

"Stop me and Nate, from what?" He stared at her confused.

"From fighting of course, Shane and I were worried that you two would start punching each other in face". Mitchie explained.

"Nate and I fighting?" Alex pointed to himself and then laughs. "You and Shane thought I would punch Nate because of Caitlyn". Mitchie nods. "I would never".

"Even if Nate did something wrong to Caitlyn," Mitchie asked, not really believing that Alex wouldn't punch Nate. He doesn't even know about Nate kissing Caitlyn.

Alex stopped laughing and his face become serious. "So, Nate did do something to Caitlyn. What did he do?"

Mitchie was unsure if she should tell him or not. "Uh... well...I...he...um"

"Well," Alex was waiting for an answer he wouldn't get.
"Never mind, I'll go ask Caitlyn about it," With that begin said, he left leaving Mitchie standing there.

"Alex wait!" She chased after him.

Caitlyn was in her cabin sitting down on her bed looking at her journal when Alex walked in.

"Alex?" She looked up from her journal and was surprises to see him. "What are you doing here? Is something wrong?" She sat up, closing her journal and tucked it underneath her pillow.

"No nothing is wrong," Alex sat down on the bed beside Caitlyn. "I want to talk to you".

"About what?"

Alex was about to answer when Mitchie come running in "Alex? Caitlyn?" she said, breathing heavy.

"What is Mitchie?" Caitlyn notices her friend enter and begin to wonders what was going on.

"Nothing," Mitchie shook her head. "I wanted to check on you".

"Oh," Caitlyn was a bit confused on why Mitchie and Alex want see her.

"Caitlyn, I want to ask you about Nate," Alex bring up the subject he was about to ask her earlier before Mitchie came.

Both Mitchie and Caitlyn tense up a little.

"What about Nate?" Caitlyn was unsure what to say to her cousin.

"I want to know what's going on between you and Nate. Did he done something to you?"

Caitlyn avoids looking at Alex and was not sure whether to tell him or not. Honestly, she really didn't want to talk about it. She knew Mitchie want to talk about, but didn't say anything, which she was glad that her friend didn't.

"Well," Alex was waiting for answer from her.

Mitchie sat down on her bed next to Caitlyn. She was worried what Caitlyn might said and how Alex would react if he finds out that Nate kissed Caitlyn.

"He didn't do anything to me," Caitlyn answered a moment later.

"Are you sure?" asked Alex, who didn't seemed to buy it. He knew something did happened between his cousin and Nate, but no one was telling him about it.

"Alex," Caitlyn reaches out and grabbed her cousin's hand. "Please let me handle this. Nate didn't do anything that would hurt me. I just need to sort this out on my own".

She was hoping that Alex would dropped the subject about her and Nate and let her deal with it. Alex is protective and very caring of her, which she very grateful of it, but she rather deals her problem on her own instead of getting him involved. She didn't want to cause problem.

"Caitlyn, I know you want to deal problems on your own and I respect that," He sighs and placed his hand over her hand that was holding his other hand. "So, I'm not going to pressure you to tell me. Whenever you ready, you can tell me about it".

"Thanks Alex," Caitlyn smiles and gave her cousin a hug then she let go of his hand.

Alex smiles and got up. "I'll leave you alone with Mitchie," He begins to walked toward the door. "You know where to find me". He told her before he left out the door.

Once Alex left, Mitchie turned to Caitlyn. "I thought that you were going to tell him".

"I thought I would too," Caitlyn sighed.

"Nate was looking for you," Mitchie pointed out.

Caitlyn nodded. "I know".

Mitchie got up from her bed and walked over to Caitlyn. "I know why you are avoiding him," She sat down in front of Caitlyn. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"I don't know what to do," She looked up at her friend. "I thought all the feeling that I have for Nate was gone and that I can just be friends with him, but..."

"But after he kissed you, all that feeling came back," Mitchie finished Caitlyn's sentence.

"Yeah," Caitlyn slightly nodded. "Why would he kiss me when he likes Dana? I don't understand".

"Because he likes you," Mitchie touches her friend's shoulders.

"No, I don't think he does," Caitlyn doesn't believe that Nate likes her. She really wants to believe that it true, but have doubt.

"Caitlyn, you should talk to him," Mitchie suggested and Caitlyn shook her head. "Listen to me, you two need to sort this out. I can't stand to see you like this. You're not happy and Nate isn't happy either. Unless, you don't like him"

"Mitchie I..." Caitlyn stutters and was unable to say anything.

"Wait a minute," Mitchie sudden realizes something. "You loved him". She said and Caitlyn looked up at her.

The look on Caitlyn's face has confirmed it.

"Yes, I loved him," Caitlyn finally admitted, looking down at her hands.

"Then you should tell him," Mitchie tried to convinces her friend to see Nate. "I know that you are afraid that Nate doesn't really like you, but you won't know unless you talk to him.

Knowing that Mitchie was right, she can't not avoid Nate forever and need to talk to him face to face. She was afraid to know if he really like her or not and rather not know instead. Sooner later she would know, she might as well find out rather than avoiding him.

She looked up at her friend. "Okay, I'll go talk to him." She finally agreed.

Mitchie hugged her friend "Whatever happen, I'm always here for you".

"I know," Caitlyn smiled.

Nate has left the cafeteria and was now on his way to his favorite spot that he and Caitlyn would meet up when Alex walked up to him.

"We need to talk," Alex said calmly.

"Fine," Nate agreed" Not here".

"Okay," Alex agreed and follows Nate to the spot near lake where Caitlyn and Nate hung out.

"Ok, let's talk," Nate stopped walking and turning around, facing Alex.

"I want to know the truth," Alex walked up to the lake and starts throwing pebbles into it. "How do you feel about Caitlyn?"

"Why do you want to know?" Nate asked, not answering the question. He was starting to get annoy at Alex, who always want to know about him and Caitlyn.

"Just answer the question," Alex demanded. "If you're not answering the question, it tells me that you don't have any feeling for Caitlyn and you're using her to get back at Dana".

Furious and without thinking, Nate marched up Alex and grabbed him by the shirt's collar. "I HAD IT UP TO HERE WITH YOU!" He uses his other hand to show how high his temper was rising, which was at his forehead. "I DON"T KNOW WHO YOU ARE TO CAITLYN AND I DON"T CARE IF YOU LIKE HER OR NOT! I HAVE YOU KNOW THAT I WOULD NEVER USE HER! I LOVE HER AND WILLING TO PROTECT HER AND BE BY HER SIDE NO MATTER WHAT!"

Alex smirked and removed Nate's grip from his shirt's collar. "So you admitted that you loved her".

"Yes I love Caitlyn," Nate said it again in a calm voice.

"What about Dana?"

"It was just a crush only, nothing more".

Alex nodded. "Okay".

"Okay," Nate annoyed by Alex's responds" That's all you have to say".

"What do you expected me to say?" Alex stared at him a bit confused.

"That I can't love Caitlyn because you loved her".

Alex laughed. "Love her? Why would I love her?"

"You don't love her?" This time Nate was confused and surprised. He was trying to figure why Alex would question him about Caitlyn if he doesn't like her.

"I do love her as my cousin," Alex touched Nate's shoulder.

"Cousin?" Nate's eyes widen. "You're her cousin?" Alex nodded and Nate felt silly for being jealous. "I didn't know. I'm sorry"

"Don't worry about it," Alex smiles and removed his hand from Nate's shoulder. "You should worry about you and Caitlyn".

"She doesn't want to see me at all after what happen," Nate sadly said.

"You kissed her didn't you?" Alex asked which Nate was surprised by it and wonders how Alex knew.

"You knew?"

"Yup," Alex nodded. "She didn't tell me. I figure it out on my own". He laughed. "Mitchie and Caitlyn didn't tell me because they were afraid that I might beat you up if I knew".

Nate laughs.

"Give her some time, she'll see you when she's really," Alex told him. "Oh, when she does, make sure you tell her how you feel and make sure she feels safe with you. I hate to see her hurt".

"I will,' Nate replied. "Thanks Alex".

Alex nodded "Oh and another thing, if you ever break her heart, I'll break your legs," He warned before he left.

"I won't hurt her," Nate replied to himself as he turned and glanced out at the lake.
