Chapter: Reunited Again

..

.. Boston; Cross's Boston Home: …..

..

The house has a warm vibe to it that Connor felt welcome.

Leonardo walks away and down the hallway while Connor stands in the foyer, but he turns his head to the right where he sees Felix sitting in the living room, practicing his chess skills.

"Hey, Connor." Felix said when he looks up from the chessboard.

"Hello, Felix." Connor replied, stepping into the living room and staring at Felix. He hasn't see the younger Cross in three and a half years, but upon seeing the now thirteen almost fourteen year old, Connor can see how grown he is. Connor remembers Rayne telling him that Felix is to start his training as an assassin under Leonardo when he hits thirteen years of age.

"Felix, mom said dinner is re—Connor?"

Whirling around on the heels of his boots, Connor finds himself staring at Rayne with slightly widen eyes. His hood is off to show his expression. He slowly steps towards her with soften eyes now.

"Rayne."

"What are you doing here?"

"I invited him over for dinner." Leonardo pokes his head in from the kitchen doorway with a smirk.

Rayne rolls her eyes before she is looking back at Connor, who is unsteadily moving back and forth upon his feet.

"Come, I'll show you to the dining room?" Rayne softly told him while turning on the balls of her feet. Felix walks off towards the dining room ahead of them. However, before Rayne can leave, Connor reaches out and he grabs hold of her right wrist making Rayne to turn back to face him.

"Connor, what are you—"

"I'm sorry for my actions. I had been so angry that day at that man, Johnson, that I took my anger out on those closest to me. I wish for your forgiveness."

Rayne stares at Connor for a few seconds, searching his eyes and seeing how his eyes are holding sadness, but waiting for her to answer him.

"I forgive you, Connor. I am sorry for leaving, being away for so long, and slapping you."

"No, I deserve the slap and I understand why you left. But I am happy for your forgiveness. It has lifted this guilt off my chest." Connor assured her.

They continue to stare at one another until Connor finds himself leaning down towards her, but they quickly pull away from one another when Rayne's mother, Ama, is walking by them.

"Dinner you two while it is still warm."

Connor is blushing with Rayne as they realize what they were about to do. Quickly they follow after Ama, who is smirking at the two of them while they sit down at the table together.

..

.. Half a Year Later: …..

..

After that day of forgiveness, Rayne had come back to living at Achilles manor again. Achilles was happy that Rayne had come back and she had forgiven Connor. Now, Connor is not in his distant moods anymore and he is happy upon Rayne presence.

The two got back to working together once again through many small missions first and also, taking care of the land around them. However, at the moment, the two are in Boston, that is under attack, especially Bunker Hill.

"We have to meet Israel Putnam." Rayne shout to Connor as they are running up Bunker Hill, dodging cannonballs, and trying not to get hit. The cannonballs are obviously from the British troops below and from ships since they are near the harbor.

"Hopefully he knows were John Pitcairn is." Connor replied to her as they finally make it to the top of the hill.

They both walk towards a man shouting at a soldier that soon runs off to do what the man commanded him to do.

"Putnam?" Rayne questioned making the man to turn towards Connor and her with a cigar in his mouth.

"Who are you two?" Putnam asked, walking by them just as a cannonball blew up in the spot that he had been standing in a few seconds ago.

Rayne walks behind the two men, but jumps then winces as she watches another cannonball land near them and take out some of the soldiers on the hill. All the while, Connor and Putnam are talking about the ships out in the harbor. While those two talk, Rayne is keeping close eyes on any more cannonballs coming.

"You two are going to take those ships out? It's your funeral."

"We'll be waiting for your thank you when we get back." Rayne retorted at Putnam and then she ran off after Connor through the destroyed parts of Boston that was under attack.

They had managed to do get out into the water, take out the ships that Putnam thought they couldn't do, and they put up the Continental flags on top of the ships to show that they had taken over the ship. That had caused Pitcairn and his troops to run off, leaving Connor and Rayne to become frustrated as they now have to duck hunt him down.

"Let's go." Connor said as they jump off the boat into the ocean water below and begin to swim their way back to the docks.

..

.. Few Days Later: …..

..

The two had wasted no time on setting out to head straight to the battlefield where Putnam is once again commanding the Continental side. They come onto top of a hill to stare down at the battlefield where large stones are everywhere and a woods across the battlefield, where the British troops are emerging.

"Rayne, stay here." Connor told her as he ran off into the battlefield.

Rayne listens to his command and she watches Connor running across the battlefield, hiding behind large boulders. He moves whenever he is not being shot at and when he makes it across, he vanishes into the woods, heading up to the cliff that overlooks this battlefield. That is where Pitcairn is located and that is where he is to be ended by Connor.

"He better not get shot." Rayne muttered, crossing her arms over her chest.

Standing beside Putnam, they watch the battle continue to happen before them. They waited until Connor makes his presence known again.

"You know, he cares for you deeply." Putnam blurted out, taking his eyes off the battlefield to look at her.

Snapping her eyes away from the battlefield, Rayne looks at the hard-ass leader with raised eyebrows. She is slightly thrown off by the comment because she didn't expect it from him.

"What?"

"Are you deaf?"

"No, I am not. But why would you—"

"You are blind then."

"Am not!"

"Well, you must realize that Connor likes you more than a friend way."

A blush comes over Rayne face as Putnam been shouting all these comments. She turns away from him, arms crossed and her face heating up. When Rayne glances at him, she sees that Putnam is widely grinning and now a low chuckle is escaping him.

"Ah, I see. You like him too, don't ya."

"You talk too much." Rayne grumbled.

"Hmp, denial. You two love each other yet to damn shy to say anything. And here I thought you two assassins where fearless." Putnam amusedly pointed out.

"We are fearless."

"Yet, you two are afraid to admit to one another." Putnam retorted causing Rayne to lowly growl underneath her breath before turning away.

"I don't see why I am talking to you about this."

"Well, I brought it up. Plus, one of you needs a push towards the other." Putnam told her while putting a cigar into his mouth and he looks out towards the battlefield once more.

They stand in silence for a few seconds.

"So are you?" Putnam said making Rayne to growl at him again.

This causes Putnam to laugh at her reaction, loudly laughing that it seems to echo over the loud fighting happening on the battlefield.

After a while, Connor returns back to them and Putnam simply informs Connor that he is nuts and not all there in the head, but is very skilled at what he does. As Rayne walked by Putnam towards Connor, she shoots Putnam a glare as he gives her a sly wink and smirk. When Rayne is beside Connor, he is handing Putnam a letter over.

"I took this from Pitcairn. You might want to read it."

Immediately, Putman starts to read it and slowly his eyes begin to wide. He looks up at Connor and Rayne, handing the letter back over.

"This isn't good."

"What is it?" Rayne asked as she stares in-between the two men. Connor looks at her with the letter in his hand.

"This is a letter to assassinate General George Washington."

That is definitely not something Rayne wanted to hear.
