Epilogue
"Bella? Are you finished?" Edward asked through the door of our closet, while I did my hair in a braid. "Sure" I answered. We'd fly to Athens for the next few weeks. I wanted to show my family the Greece I knew, which meant we'd visit all the old temples and important places. It'd be the first time in a few hundred years. The changes I already saw, so it wouldn't be as bad as it'd seemed. Maybe, if we'd have luck, we could visit the House of Hades, however we definitely wouldn't see the darkest part of it, and it was too dangerous for everyone. Elizabeth should just know something more of our history.
I knew that not everyone was exited, with such a large family it wasn't strange that some people had a different opinion than others.
Edward didn't exactly know what we'd do once we got to Athens. Sure, he thought that they'd explore the city but what came after it, he had no idea…
Of course my family'd come by whenever they wanted, it was their home too.
We'd stay in different hotels. When I first thought about it, I wanted us to stay on Mount Olympus; however I had to out rule that very fast. Greece and the whole ancient world in itself were already dangerous and Mount Olympus was the center of it. Not only that, my family had so many forms and appearances, an outsider'd definitely find it disturbing.
The flight was pretty boring, only when we crossed the Mediterranean I could feel the changes and instantly sat straighter in my seat. Edward had one look at me and then he knew what was going on. Elizabeth wasn't much better; she had slept like the dead until we got to the Mediterranean, then she suddenly opened her eyes and looked to me as if to say 'We're home'. Still, I couldn't believe how fast Elizabeth had grown and now she was more like an adult than a child. I've never wished for me to be a normal human more, than in the moment I realized that; only so that my daughter could've a life without all of those worries.
Sure, the life had its advantages but all in all it was more of a burden than anything else. Now wasn't the time to think of it, but to enjoy my life as much as I could.
I did just that, once we landed I watched everything around me to get a feeling for the country.
After we checked into our hotel and had everything in our rooms to our satisfaction, we walked around Athens and when I saw something I knew, I pointed it out to the others or told them the story behind it. The most prominent, ancient building was the Pantheon, which was built for my sister Athena since she was the one who gave the city its name.
I found the fact funny because of what happened after it. My sister and my uncle couldn't stand each other anymore and the city still had the name after over 5000 years. It was a miracle. Sure, there were many cities in the world which never lost their names, but the name was a religious one and a Greek at that. It wasn't like there weren't people with the religion anymore but like everything that was once part of an empire with its own religion, it was strange that exactly this part existed after so much time.
I began to ramble about political facts from that time in my head. Suddenly somebody shook me.
"Bella, are you okay? You weren't reacting anymore."
"Everything's okay. I was just remembering some things from when the city was founded."
And then I began with those things. When I was finished, I realized that only Edward, Elizabeth, Carlisle and Esme were listening. At second glance, I realized that Alice, Rosalie, Emmett and Jasper weren't even with us anymore. They were in some Boutiques Alice dragged them into.
Jasper wanted to hear my stories; however Alice didn't even give him a chance to say something before she dragged him away.
Emmett was bored out of his mind, but he hadn't minded my stories one bit.
Alice didn't want wanted to seem unfriendly; however she wanted to see all the shops here and she didn't know if she had time later.
Only Rosalie was the one who had minded my stories. She still didn't trust me completely and so she went with Alice.
The next day, we saw more of Athens and visited some museums. Alice got her time to go shopping during our time in there.
While we were walking along one of the busier streets, we had an awkward encounter with an inhabitant. Only the fact, that I could speak Greek didn't make more than a little bit of drama out of our encounter.
I was glad in that moment that nobody else could speak it or they would've heard all the man was telling me. Elizabeth and Emmett were just a little bit too loud and the old man didn't like it one bit. It seemed like he thought that we couldn't understand him or he wouldn't have reacted this much when I talked back to him.
After that we decided what we'd do the next day and then every couple had their own time.
We decided that we'd visit all the different temples we hadn't seen yet, so that I could tell Edward and Elizabeth a bit more.
The next day after that, we visited the temple of my mother Hera, since it was one of her holidays. Elizabeth and I were there longer, so we could pay our respects after the old rituals- while the others waited outside. Then we went to my father's temple to pay him our respects too.
For the tourists, it must've been a pretty funny sight how a mother and her daughter paid their respects to an old statue of an ancient god and goddess in a language nobody could understand. For us, it was natural and what the old rituals demanded of us. We didn't even use the ones for the humans, which would've been less obvious if anybody could've understood us.
I knew that on Mount Olympus, there'd be a party for my mother as long as her holidays went. Normally I participated but now paying our respects to her statue would've to do.
Next time, I'd definitely visit instead of paying my respects to a statue, a statue which was tied to my mother no less; however it was still a strange feeling.
Over the next days we visited temples all over the country, some which were already tourist attractions and some which were still undiscovered. Those were the best ones since there was nobody else than us and I could speak freely.
When we paid a visit to the upper parts of the House of Hades, those who understood what the name meant nearly had a heart attack- at least if they could've one. Everyone was awestruck at what they saw there and I could understand them.
Sure, the last time I was here was a few thousand years ago and it was much more beautiful because there were people who cared for the temple, but it hadn't lost its beauty. The further we went, the more you could see what I meant with beauty. I knew that at the pit, it'd nearly look like when it was built.
Since there were parts of the dead here, it wasn't a good idea to see much more and when I said it out loud everyone was sad about it. Maybe for vampires, it had another meaning than for me as they were part of the underworld.
I found it fascinating and wanted to ask the other gods about it, maybe they had an answer for me.
When we walked back up, I had an interesting conversation with Carlisle about death, Thanatos and Hades while Edward, Esme and Jasper were engrossed in a conversation about the architecture of Olympus and the temples, Alice and Rosalie were talking about the decorations and Emmett and Elizabeth had a serious conversation about the life on Mount Olympus. The latter one was rather sweet, Emmett was giving her a piggy-back ride and they talked about sports people were playing there or how parties were like. Elizabeth gave him serious answers but when they got to the part about music she had to giggle at Emmett's incomprehension and I began to laugh, despite me talking about the different rivers in the Underworld and their functions. After everyone else heard, why I was laughing they began to follow at Emmett's face until we got out of the House.
Until we had to fly home to New York so we could do our respective jobs, we had a few fun days with lots of laughing and I realized that there was no place I'd rather be than with my vampire family while my other family occasionally visited.
During the last year everyone had learned that sometimes the obvious isn't right and it brought all of us more than we first thought.
