Starlight

It took months but Tony had finally convinced Bruce to come to a gala with him. It was a large yacht club gala that an old friend of his father's was throwing in honor of his father's birthday. Tony was to be the guest of the evening.

They both got ready, Tony in a black suit with a blue shirt and silver tie and Bruce with a brown suit with a purple shirt and no tie. They were clean shaven and looked stunning. It wasn't their first public appearance but Bruce certainly wasn't one for parties. Especially those with large crowds, but he agreed to go. But only for Tony.

It didn't take long after Tony delivered his speech for him to get the urge to dance. He walked around with Bruce, one hand intertwined with Bruce's and one holding a glass of wine.

Tony turned to Bruce and smirked. "Oh my, what a marvelous tune. Shall we dance?" He asked, passing off his glass to a waiter.

Bruce blushed and looked down at his feet. "Tony... I-I can't..."

Tony elbowed Bruce. "The whole place is dressed to the nines. Look at all these people... You're just nervous and I get that, but you can't close yourself off."

Tony pulled him outside and walked him down to the beach. They slipped off their shoes and rolled up their pants, walking down to the sand by the water.

Tony glanced over at Bruce and saw the anxiety and fear in his eyes. "Look at you!"

Bruce had been looking up at the moon but with Tony's words, looked down to meet his gaze. "What?"

"Look at you... worrying so much about things you can't change. You're so afraid about who you are..."

"What I am!" Bruce snorted.

Tony stopped walking and turned to Bruce, cupping his cheek. "Who you are." He whispered softly. "You can't change. And I love every part of you. You can't be afraid of yourself, that's no way to live your life."

Bruce laughed. "But I have every right to be afraid of myself."

Tony cracked a small smile. "You'll spend your whole life singing the blues if you keep thinking that way."

Tony walked over and picked up a few small, flat stones and tried to skip them on the ocean. When he looked back he saw Bruce, standing a few feet away, busy staring at the sky and taking notes in a small pad that he held in his hand about constellations that he observed. Tony smiled to himself and sighed happily.

In that moment Tony had never loved him more. And it was then he realized something. He had thought about marriage a lot, especially recently, but it was something the two of them had never discussed. But Tony was sure beyond belief that he wanted to marry Bruce. He had to. He had to make him fully his own. Put a ring on his finger, change his name, and spend everyday of the rest of forever beside him.

Tony could still see the fear in Bruce's face even as he scribbled away in the notebook. Tony walked over and wrapped his boyfriend in his arms.

"Come on, Bruce... Smile for me..." Tony whispered against Bruce's neck. "Don't you see the starlight? Don't you dream impossible things?"

Bruce laughed under his breath and looked at Tony. "You're actually insane, you know that?"

Tony laughed and hugged him tight, kissing his neck. "Bruce?" He asked softly. His breath hot against his boyfriend's neck.

"Hm?"

Tony knew how he felt and he knew his emotions weren't going to change. They were positively overwhelming. He was scared, they had never discussed marriage in context to their relationship before. But Tony thought it was about time they did.

"What would you say if I asked you to marry me?" Tony asked, his voice shaking. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, scared of the answer.

Bruce's heart nearly stopped. His face flushed a deep red, and he was happy if was dark enough so Tony couldn't see that. He turned to meet Tony's gaze, melting into his arms. Bruce has thought about marrying Tony and knew it's what he wanted. But Tony had never mentioned it, so neither had he. But now... Tony had mentioned it.

He wanted to marry Tony... that much he knew for sure... But at the same time, nothing scared him more than the thought of marrying Tony.

"Tony I-..." He stammered, swallowing thickly. He sighed and shook his head. "That's crazy talk."

Tony laughed and shook his head. "No I'm not, I could just picture it." He sighed happily. He turned Bruce's head to look at him. "Could you not picture it?"

Tony smiled and took Bruce's hands in his own, swinging him around in a lighthearted dance. "We could get married, have ten kids and teach them how to dream!"

Bruce laughed and for a moment his anxiety melted away. He actually could picture it. And he liked the idea of it. He wanted it. To spend his life with the man he loved. To raise children with him and spend every day with him. Bruce Stark... He liked the sound of that. He almost laughed to himself and he stopped them from spinning.

Bruce took a deep breath and a smile spread wide across his face. "I would say yes."
