Chapter 11

Hale stepped outside the barn with Eiky, so Bo and Tamsin could change into the cult robe. The moment he walked out, it felt a little awkward inside. Both women faced away from each other while changing, and neither had said anything.

Bo shook her head, letting out an inaudible sigh before putting on the mask. She adjusted it on her face and looked around to see if she put it on right, and then, her eyes uncontrollably focused on Tamsin.

The Valkyrie seemed to be in a trance right now. She had already put on the robe and the mask, and was combing her hair with those long, beautiful fingers. Her locks twirled around her digits like fine, liquid gold. Her eyes hid in the shadow of the mask, and Bo had a hard time to read her.

How could she read her anyway, when her heart pounded so nervously inside her chest and her mind so full of thoughts like tearing the mask off the blonde's face, shoving her to the wall and kissing her hard? How could she, when holding her, inhaling her and tasting her were the only things that were on her mind?

"Stop staring like a fucking idiot," Tamsin's voice came. She had already tied her hair into a neat bun behind her head.

Bo cleared her throat and snapped out from her fantasies. She zipped her robe, before she loosened her hair and let it fall on her shoulders. She tried to comb it a little with her fingers, and it was then she found out that it was Tamsin's turn staring at her.

Bo's heart raced joyfully. She bit her bottom lip and let out an evil smile. Slowly she stepped forward, reaching out and pulling the blonde towards her.

Tamsin tried to look calm, but her panicking eyes betrayed her. Bo chuckled and pulled her closer, closer, and closer, close enough for them to see the flickers in each other's eyes. She leaned in with a mischievous smile on her face, but instead of kissing the blonde, she just gently flattened the side of her hood a little. When the Valkyrie lowered her guard and softened in her arms, Bo quickly pecked her lips.

Tamsin hissed, although it sounded more like a soft moan when her cheeks flushed a little and her aura brightened the air. Before she could form a complaint, Bo pecked her lips again, this time much, much softer.

"Are we going to rescue your human or not?" Tamsin grunted in a low voice, her eyes lowered, too nervous to hold Bo's gaze.

"Yes, we are," Bo answered her, smiling.

"Then why are you still staring?" Tamsin raised her voice, pushing the brunette away from her.

Bo chuckled again. Instead of answering Tamsin's question, she just ran the back of her index finger on the Valkyrie's burning cheek for a second or two. She leaned in once more, and when she realized that Tamsin was waiting for her kiss, she smiled into the blonde's lips and pulled away.

"Come on, Valkyrie," Bo said as she walked out. "Let's go get Kenzi."

They told Eiky to stay put, and headed to the farm. After walking in the woods for a while, Hale finally decided to start a conversation. "So, can you guys fill me in on the…jewelries?"

"No need," Tamsin smirked. "All you need to know is that they were from Asgard, and so they shall be returned to Asgard."

Bo nudged the blonde with her elbow. Although getting a cold stare from the blonde, she didn't back off. "I'll handle this, okay?"

Tamsin rolled her eyes. "Whatever."

Bo turned to Hale and smiled. "What she meant is...what do you want to know?"

"Well, first, what are they? I mean..." Hale mumbled.

"They are from a set of jewelries made in Asgard," Bo explained, "They were made for Freyja, but one of her maids made a mistake and they got shipped to the Earth like...a long time ago. We are here to find them and to return them to her."

"So...the cult are after them too?"

"We believe so, since all the people they killed were once owners of the jewelries, and after they died, the pieces they had were gone. Ciara has the hairpin, and they attacked her and took that away too."

"Okay, now there's the connection," Hale murmured. "The jewelry pieces. That's the connection. How could I have not known already?! There are jewelry pieces missing in every crime scene!" He paused for a little, before he continued, "so what happened to Kenzi? She has a piece too or something?"

"No," Bo shook her head. "We...had a piece of it too, the necklace. They probably figured it out and came to look for it, but didn't find it since we would carry it wherever we would go, so maybe they took Kenzi for information."

Hale went quiet for a while. Then he asked, "so...you guys were sent here just to...find the jewelries?"

"Yeah, to find them and to-" Bo stopped abruptly, feeling that telling Hale that they came here for the jewelries to get rid of the engagement was quite stupid.

"To what?" Hale pursued.

"To right her wrongs," Tamsin replied before Bo came up with anything. She squeezed those words through her clenched teeth while staring at Bo.

Hale figured that there was something huge behind the whole coming to the Earth and finding some jewelries, but he wasn't sure if he should push for the answers. Before he had made a decision, they all heard something, or someone, passing through the woods very close to them.

Hale immediately gestured Bo and Tamsin to hide. Then he pointed at the direction where the noises had come from and whispered to them that he'd go check.

He slowly moved away Bo and Tamsin, as quiet as he could, and the two girls went to hide behind the bush.

"To right my wrongs?" Bo whispered to Tamsin. "Hey, at least half of the wrongs were done by you!"

Tamsin answered her with a cold stare and a pinch on her waist.

"Ow!" Bo slapped the blonde's hand away. "Hey, if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't come here and-"

"-and what?" Tamsin interrupted her. "Be stuck in a shitty building with your pet? Battle some stupid human cult? If it wasn't for you, I'd be training my squad in Asgard, instead of spending every minute of every day with a stupid, dumb Succubus."

"So I'm dumb and stupid, huh..." Bo hummed and gazed into the Valkyrie's light eyes.

Tamsin wanted to tell her "of course you are", but somehow she had a very hard time getting them through her throat. Bo's eyes were only inches away from here, and they were so warm, filled with teasing smile. Something bright, exciting shimmered in them, something so damn hot that it made her heart flutter and her lungs clench.

"Tamsin," Bo's voice came, soft, low. Then the brunette reached over to hold her hand. She rubbed her thumb against the back of her hand gently and continued, "Tamsin, I think that-"

Hale rushing back interrupted her. "Hey," he said to them in a low voice. "False alarm. It was a wandering deer."

Tamsin rolled her eyes and stood up. She quickly let go of Bo's hand and smirked."Then why don't we just go and get this shit done?"

They arrived at the farm in the afternoon. The guards at the front gate didn't even look at them twice.

"So where is Kenzi?" Hale asked Bo after nodding and smiling at a few members who they ran into after entered the farm.

"She's over there. In that building," Bo told him and pointed at a building on the left side, far away from them

Hale frowned at it. "Huh, that's weird. Why would they keep her in the headquarter?"

"Maybe...she's important because she knows where the last piece is?"

Hale shrugged. "Let's just go get her out."

Bo nodded. As they were walking towards the building Kenzi was in, she glanced at the ritual site on the west side of the farm. The platform had been set up, and on top of it there was bed-like thing with flowers in it. A group of cult members were running around, cleaning, rearranging things and putting everything in order.

"Don't just stand there and stare," Tamsin whispered to Bo and reached for her hand. She pulled the brunette along with her, but a few seconds later, someone stopped them.

"Hey, no holding hands" a tall guy in front of them said with a serious face. "Have you guy forgotten about your rules?!"

"I'm sorry. They are just too excited for the ritual," Hale told the guy with a smile on his face. He quickly pulled Bo and Tamsin away from him before he raised more questions.

"No holding hands in the farm?" Bo asked Hale quietly after they were alone again.

"Yeah, this farm is...this cult has like a lot of rules. No this, no that," Hale said. Then he looked around cautiously. After seeing no one around, he lifted the hem of his pants a little and revealed the tracking anklet on his ankle, "and you have to wear this."

"So they would know where you've gone this morning?"

"Nah, the tech team hacked the device and it sent false info to the server, so I'm safe," Hale explained. "Let's go find Kenzi."

After making sure there was no one following them, they entered the headquarter building and found the room that Kenzi was in.

With Hale picking the lock and Tamsin watching out from them, Bo raised herself on her toes to look through the small window above her. She saw Kenzi inside tied up but looking okay, and the Russian girl was the only person in the room.

Bo waved at Kenzi, and the girl noticed her. She shook her head at Bo, so very slightly that Bo wouldn't notice if she didn't pay attention.

Bo frowned at her, wondering why Kenzi wasn't happy to see her at all. She pointed at herself, then Kenzi, telling her that she was coming in.

Kenzi squinted her eyes in frustration, and shook again.

Before Bo had figured out what was going on, Hale had opened the door and rushed in. Tamsin followed him.

Bo hesitantly went in, only to find a group of cult members jumping out from the closet and the bathroom. She grabbed the closest one and charmed him, but before she attacked another, she noticed a weird, sweet scent in the air.

Her head started to spin, and a few seconds later, she blacked out.

When Bo woke up, she found herself tied up, lying on the ground, right in front of the ritual platform. She struggled but soon realized that she wouldn't be able to free herself. She searched for Tamsin, and found her tied up and lying right next to her. The Valkyrie was mumbling some old Norse cuss, and Hale was on her other side, unconscious.

Bo wanted to ask Tamsin if she was okay, but a sudden loud, almost deafening cheer came from behind her. She turned back in shock, and realized that the entire cult must have gathered behind them. There were hundreds of people in maroon robes, cheering, clapping, shouting, their faces so excited.

Bo looked around and noticed several members carrying someone up the stairs to the platform. She recognized that it was Kenzi in a weird white gown with the whole set of Freyja's jewelries on her.

Fuck. Bo thought as she realized that the cult member must have taken the necklace away from them while they were out. She also figured out why Kenzi shook at her. The girl must have known that they were in there ambushing them, but it was too late now.

Tamsin groaned beside her. "Fucking human cult..." she growled angrily and struggled. Then, a cult member's foot met her back.

A member forced her back to the ground, and Bo yelled at him, "hey! Don't touch her!"

The man sneered at her. "Why does it matter, cutie," he said to Bo. "You two are gonna die soon anyway."

Bo stared at him, confused. Then her attention was drawn to the platform when a group of people lit the firewood under it. Kenzi had already been put on the bed with flowers, and she seemed to be unconscious.

The man was very pleased by Bo's shocking expression. He scoffed at her and stepped back to sit down.

Bo watched the firewood burn, before she turned to Tamsin. "What the hell?!" She whispered to the Valkyrie. "Are they gonna burn her or something?"

"No, they just want some barbeque," Tamsin grunted and rolled her eyes. "What do you think, Bo? She's lying there unconscious with fire under her. Of course they are gonna burn her!"

"As a sacrifice?" Bo finally figured it out.

"Stop talking," the man commanded Bo, and kicked Bo's back hard. Tamsin hissed at him, and he kicked her too.

"Be quiet, you ungrateful brats," the man said to them, "thanks to us, you are going to witness the greatest miracle in human history! After the Gods receives our offering, they are going to send the Queen back to the Earth. She shall be the one true savior for all of us. And your two, of course, are going to satisfy her hunger."

Bo was about to tell him that it was ridiculous and impossible, but before she had said a word, someone walked out from a building on the east side of the far. Everyone stood up and cheered like crazy, including the man who held them captive.

"Did you hear that?! They think they can bring someone back by this," Bo told Tamsin. She had to raise her voice so it wouldn't get drowned.

"Yeah, like that's gonna ever happen," Tamsin said, rolling her eyes. "Also, Kenzi is a soul. She can't even be a sacrifice because she can't die."

"And speaking of dying, why can't you just cast doubt on them and make them all pass out?"

Tamsin rolled her eyes again. "That drug we inhaled, it messed with my brain. It'll take a few more minutes."

Bo nodded as she watched a man arriving in front of the crowd. Unlike everyone else, he was wearing a green, druid robe. A hawk mask covered the upper part of his face, and varies of charms were hanging around his neck. He was holding a long, wooden staff in his right hand, and on top of the staff there was a big, shiny gemstone with energy swirling inside.

The man nodded at the crowd, and raised his left hand, and the entire crowd immediately quieted down.

"Followers of the Gods," he started, "today is the day we witness the true greatness. Today is the day that my mother, our Queen, returns. She shall walk among us again, and lead us to the great future."

He paused, and everyone clapped and cheered again.

After a while, he silenced the crowd with his left hand. "Please, save your love for our Queen, for she's the one true Queen. I am nothing but a humble messenger of the Gods." He turned to point at Kenzi and continued, "and this girl, survived our poison! The dart went through her body, but she wasn't hurt at all! The Gods will take her. They shall let her rest in their realm of eternity, and give us our Queen back…."

"Oh, this shit is gonna get very, very interesting," Tamsin whispered to Bo while the others went wild again.

"Yeah, when he finds out that he isn't able to kill Kenzi," Bo murmured as she watched the platform closely. She paused when she saw the flames reaching the bed. "Is she got feel... pain?"

"No," Tamsin shook her head. "She can only feel pain from things she has experienced before she died. I doubt she has been burnt alive before, so…."

"That's good to hear," Bo murmure, but still felt nervous when fire devoured Kenzi.

The druid started chanting, with a group of people whom Bo assumed to be the high ranked members of the cult. They were dancing around the platform while mumbling things Bo couldn't understand.

The druid pointed his staff at the fire, and a stream of energy shot out from the gemstone. The moment it hit the flames, the platform exploded into a big bonfire.

A loud cry came from inside the flames, surprising everyone but Bo and Tamsin. Then, a girl's silhouette appeared in the fire, moving.

"What in Mother Russia's name is happening?!" Kenzi's voice came, fueled with anger, shock and fear. She rolled off the bed, dodging the flames, staggering back and forth.

After a few seconds, she realized that the fire couldn't hurt her at all. She didn't feel the heat, nor was she burnt. She stopped and raised her eyebrows, watching the flames dancing on her skin.

"Holy mother of Dracula, this is cool..." she murmured, thrilled. It took her a while to finally decide to look around. She was shocked to see hundreds of people in maroon robes staring at her in dead silence. Then, she saw Bo, Tamsin and Hale all tied up among the crowd.

Kenzi cursed and ran down the stairs. She only took a few steps, before the druid pointed his staff at her. A stream of energy flew to her like an arrow, and pierced through her body. It hit the platform, and the platform collapsed.

The entire crowd gasped, unable to believe that the druid's power couldn't hurt her at all. The druid growled and raised his staff again, only to have it knocked out from his hand by Kenzi. Then the Russian girl slammed her heel on his shin, and forced him back.

"Seize her!" The druid commanded the members and pointed at Kenzi.

Most people were still in shock, disbelief and fear, and they ignored his order. A few zealots came at Kenzi, but soon they realized that they couldn't hurt her at all. Their blades cut through her body like cutting through the thin air, and the girl didn't even shed a single drop of blood. They mumbled something to each other with great fear, and backed off.

Kenzi gave them a finger, and walked to her friends. The cult members ran away from her like running away from the source of the plague. They kept their distances, watching her, whispering to each other in low voice.

Kenzi untied Bo and Tamsin, before she went to free Hale. Bo and Tamsin quickly exchanged a look, and stood up.

"He is not the Gods' messenger!" Tamsin said to the crowd in a loud voice as she pointed at the druid.

"Yeah, the true messenger is her!" Bo pointed at Kenzi. "Emmm...the Gods sent her, and that's why nothing can ever hurt her. You see it with your own eyes. Fire didn't kill her, nor did your weapons. Even the druid, who claimed to be delivering the Gods' message, couldn't hurt her!"

The crowd went quiet. They all turned to the druid, before they glanced at Kenzi. Then they started to whisper again.

"And, and that is because he's lying! He's not the messenger, she is," Tamsin told them and pointed at Kenzi too.

Kenzi paused, and when she realized that everyone was staring at her, she frowned at Bo and Tamsin. "What now, Bo-bo?" She asked Bo in a low voice.

"Just pretend that you are the true messenger, Kenzi," Bo whispered to her. "This might be the only way to hold them off until Dyson arrives with the raid team, or before the Valkyrie gets her juice back again."

"How?" Kenzi whispered back. "We all know that there ain't no Gods' messenger."

"Yeah, but they don't know that." Tamsin hissed. "Just do it, shortstack, before make you."

Kenzi rolled her eyes and straightened herself. She nervously swallowed as she scanned the confused and frightened crowd. She cleared her throat again, and started, "F-fellow humans of the land of the Earth, I-I am the...the messenger of the Gods, and I am here to deliver their message to you."

She paused and looked at Bo and Tamsin. Both gestured her to continued. She turned to crowd again, and said, "when the Gods knew that there was someone who was delivering bogus messages to the beloved Earth, they were furious. So, they sent me to deliver the true message."

The crowd gasped, and started to whisper to each other again while pointing at the druid.

"Don't listen to her!" The druid yelled in panic. "I am the real messenger! She's fake! Don't you all get it? She's not the-"

He stopped abruptly and shook his head. Growling in pain, he stumbled back and forth, before he collapsed and passed out.

Kenzi frowned and turned to Bo and Tamsin. When she saw the remaining shadows under the Valkyrie eyes, she nodded at the blonde.

"See, that's what you get when you lie," Kenzi told the crowd. "I am the true messenger. And you should all...hail me!"

Most of the cult members immediately kneeled. A few were still confused, but got pulled down by the others. Kenzi grinned and winked at Bo and Tamsin.

"Holy-" Hale jerked up and inhaled sharply, only to find hundreds of cult members kneeling in front of Kenzi, and the leader lying on the ground unconscious. He paused there for a second or two, before he decided not to ask about what had happened right now.

"The raid team should be here soon," he told Bo and Tamsin.

"Can't wait," the Valkyrie replied absentmindedly. Her heart fluttered, when Bo reached out and held her hand in hers..
