I got up and exited to the open gates, I saw that all of the archers we had were either on the walls firing or on the ground next to the wall. They were not firing in unison, which meant wasted shock potential. I raised the Scythe high into the high.
"Archers! Fire together, hit them hard, and give the men in front a breather! Fire on my call"
"Aye, Fateless, prepare to fire at will!" A captain shouted back. Everyone drew their bows, pull tightly, and aimed towards the massive force. I pointed at the center left as the target as it had most their light infantry
"Fire and continue to fire in unison on my mark! Three, two, one, mark!" I ordered and a Godsend of arrows were let loose into the air covering a 180 degree area with a focus on the left center. The arrows buzzed through the air before arcing down towards the army, I began to walk for and took control of the main infantry block. The arrows met their mark and took a heavy toll on the lightly armored Bokoblins. They were dazed and shocked by the sudden strike. I ran up to the front lines, people were making way for me, until the very front. The front line was made of mostly pikemen, explains why the held so long without collapsing.
"Charge them! Cut them while their down!" I shouted the command to run over the small little bastard. The pikemen agreed and charged forth, skewing the small little things with relative ease. It made a huge bulge on the left and nearly cut the hostile force in two. We focused on the smaller "halve" while our flanks were being covered by fresh light swordsmen were decimating the bulk moblin army. I began to fight the enemy, it felt so good. Oddly enough I did not felt any fatigue whatsoever. We met a large red armored Darknut, I thought it was a leader of sorts. But even his mighty blows were simply outmatched by the shear range a 14 foot pike it could wield. He was stabbed to death with focus on pikes on him. I saw the archers fire again, however instead of focusing on left, they focused on the center. Those arrows landed dangerously close, some even striking my own men. I did not see anyone perish. Our force managed to liberate a squad of moblins being led by a Darknut, but then we saw the purple flag rise from the west. It was that infamous bird crest and Triforce, Hyrule had arrived, it was fairly sizeable force, but much bigger than ours. But I focused my attention on the massive horde in front of us. Another archer volley and pike advance our severely damaged main force managed force the enemy back, our archers continued to fire and pelt them, and force them even further back. I caught sight of some horsemen coming from the North. They were carrying a single flag, the Sphere of Ronnourth. I spotted it was Chief Mimir, he had been driven back from his keep. I let the Scythe gleam in the red Sky to show where I was. They came were I arrived, but they did not had a huge horde to deal with. Most of the blins and Stalfos were heading northeast away from Mimir's cavalry. They advanced towards us, I then turned to see our force was celebrating in the tide of the battle turning. Mimir arrived and I went to go meet him.
"What about the two forward keeps?" I asked? Mimir gave me a stern face.
"They were both lost, Cia sent wave after wave, we couldn't hold, this is all we have left, that I know of."
"Yeah, Hylians are arriving as well, this is going to bloody." I said, but Mimir looked towards the advancing army and his face turned curious.
"They have an excellent firing spot. Rain down two armies at once."
"I don't know. However we are going to set up a position of defense. Cia's approaching from the North and Hyrule advancing from the West." I said and the expected courier arrived.
"Sir, the Hyruleans have arrived and wish to open negotiations!" The courier said. I and Mimir were both shocked. Why in the all the lands would the Hyruleans wanted to talk on the middle of battlefield, with another Sorceress to slay.
"Tell them to keep away from us. We don't talk to cowards and slavers." I said, Mimir nodded slightly as well.
"They insisted! They already agreed to host a non-aggression pact!" He said, Mimir eyes shot up. He was interested but I was not having any of it.
"Non-aggression? Courier, do you have any…" I was about to say something that no Northmen would say, I revised my words. "…idea what they could do?"
"Jorgen, even though they might be our captors, it would be best to see what they want. We don't want to lose that non-aggression pact. Besides, I rather be it their men than ours." Mimir said, the courier shook his head up and down.
"Fine, we'll talk but I bet nothing is going to happen." I said.
"I neglected to mention, that four Northern Chiefs are with them. Non-captive, free of will, and may it generate your interest more."
"It did. Mimir delegate a commander for the time." I said. What bribery did Hyrule made to the Northern Chiefs? I hoped on Mimir's horse and headed towards the Hyruleans who even though arriving west were setting up their base far south. We rode towards their location, I could not believe I was meeting them in peace. They did not deserve it, only reason they might have offered to us was because we were a threat on the battlefield. The horses rode fast and in few minutes we reached the Hyrulean camp. Our rode can to an end. I saw the four Northern Chiefs, Garuni of the Gariuani Clan, Samuin of the Snowheart Clan, Aurland of the Aurisband Clan, and Hjorn of the Hjornsteim Clan and Freia's father. With Chief Mimir, all five Clan Chiefs were here, representing the most centralized the North has ever gotten. I saw a Sheikah comes towards me, this was not the one I met in the camp weeks ago. No she was the other one, white hair, blood red eyes, wearing highly ornate robes and armor but was practical, almost if she had an armorer who had sense, but she carried a blade, that was nearly the size of her tall figure, that right there would scare most people, and her left eye bore a red marking.
"I am Impa, General of the Hyrulean Forces. I bid thee welcome." The General said with a very serious voice to put it. We dismounted from our horses.
"I am Chief Mimir Frostsplitter of the Frostsplitter Clan, you summoned me and the Unbound Warrior Jorgen, for what purpose." Mimir said with a proud but defiant voice when he introduced himself and me.
"Despite recent defilement in our opinion with our respective realms. We were perhaps mistaken in our transgressions against you and the North. Follow me." Impa said and began to walk, I looked at Mimir he shrugged and followed. A Northmen would not follow a Hylian, nevertheless, I followed Mimir, and Mimir alone. He lead me towards the other Chiefs, there I spotted the other Sheikah. She extended her arm towards me and Mimir, for the customary greeting Mimir shook, but I did not...my attention was held by something else.
"It's him…" A familiar voice said with deep resentment.
"Link, I know, but if I can tolerate him, we all can. In their eyes he's a…hero." Another voice said. It was strangely familiar. I turned to see…them.
Something told me, that I was not believing what I was hearing. There was that young boy in green I meet during that ambush. He looked at me with some sort of resentment, I did not care what importance this boy had in the role of men far more experienced than him. He still had that face of a recruit never properly trained for war, just gifted with some abilities. He looked like a hero, but there were no heroes. Try as he did, there was no way hiding behind the nobility of Knight. But, no, the person who shocked me the most, almost like seeing a ghost, right next to the boy, she was that Sorceress I thought I killed. Her purple eyes were cold fixed just as much as Link's eyes. How did she survive, that had to have killed her, no doubt? That Sheikah told me she was dead. What trickery was this? I knew something did not add up.
"You, you are supposed…" I pointed at the Sorceress that baffled me.
"Dead, yes we know." The other Sheikah said. Lana huffed at the word "dead."
"A fairy in the bottle to a vial of Got's tail. While the injury was humiliating, if were not for Link, we would not be even speaking." Lana said with a chilling cheery voice. My mind was running on overtime time, but when she said the analogy of Got's tail, then I started to understand. However, that Sheikah told me right in front my face she was dead.
"I knew it was you that infiltrated the camp Hyrule weeks ago, I decided to spare your life, as it would have been less costly in lives. However, Lana was actually dead, until Link's fairy, Proxi, did the deed. But enough, we come here to negotiate not play, remember me!" The blonde Sheikah said to my face. I still refused to believe it, even this so called fairy in a bottle, it seemed unreal. I had almost full confidence it was a hallucinogen that was affecting me. My shock was still retained, the disbelief was lowered, but it felt more of a haunting than an actual person. It looked like she did not even had a scratch on her, she was pristine. Obviously Mimir knew what I was talking about but other Chiefs seemed not to care. Link rolled his eyes.
"Now, you called us, and it seems the entirety of the Chiefs here, during a battle for a non-aggression. Even though you admit to crimes committed on your part?" Mimir said.
"Wait, Huri is dead? Did you rupee-loving hogs killed him?" Hjorn accused Impa and drew his sword, he was a good friend of Huri, they used to old allies before.
"No, he was killed by the Dragon Knight Volga, I saw it with my own eyes." I said, Hjorn face went blank and he sheathed his sword. However it only furthered the point of uselessness that this summoning has brought us. Maybe it was to keep us distracted.
"Now, hold on, before we start accusing anyone with anything. We have seen your valor in this very battlefield. To manage to hold off the Sorceress Cia for what seems to be hours is remarkable, it is certain that we want to both see Cia fall, however, we will not be able to succeed if we are killing each other. Our initial belief is that Northmen were loyal to Cia…"
"And who thought of that? You're Princess?" I said.
"We haven't seen the Princess Zelda anywhere, whether she is alive or…dead. Does not matter, I am the one that made that belief. But it appears I was mistaken as shown by the valiant stand. You, your Chief, and former Chief's reported capture was only a response to end the constant raiding that was coming from the North. If I remembered, it was a counterattack to a raid on a missionary that was only trying to reinforce our faith in Northern Hyrule. Not to convert."
"You Frostsplitters, always been the ones raiding. However it is honored" Aurland remarked.
"And I suppose you aren't well treated to the Hylians?" Garuni interrogated his position of treatment from Hyrule.
"I Personally, I find raids to be deliberating. We can't live forever stealing other peoples stuff. Besides what could a missionary do anyway?" Samuin reasoned.
"Samuin, you are almost heretic to our people. You've let missionaries convert your people to that sickly faith they call the Goddesses."
Aye, the Chiefs except Mimir continued to bicker about loyalty and raids. Impa was about to put a stop to the argument. Mimir raised his hand to signal not to. I sighed, Hjorn and Garuni were fiercely supportive of our clan actions as it was showed our strength against Hyrule. However even though we had those two, plus Mimir in favor for us. The two other clans, Snowheart and Aurisband were much larger, economically developed, and much more accepting of Hylians than us. Samuin being nearly a vassal to Hyrule, Aurisband was stern but "aided" by Hylians after a terrible winter. I would call it expression of power more than a gift of charity. However, this argument represented the very problem the North faced against Hyrule. It was not a military invasion, but a cultural one. As denounced as much as it is, there has been a surge of Hylian missionaries, with their sole purpose to convert the North into the Tyranny of the Three. Our very livelihoods, our great history, and our Gods, are under direct threat because of it. As it stands, there used to be universal bond against the Hylians and their "faith", now you could call into question of that bond. We the Frostsplitters took action by raiding against them, pushing them back. That used to be everyone, but now, only our clan actually does it anymore. But what was the most damning of all, the Hylians were succeeding in their endeavor. The Hyruleanization of the North is the very fate I fight against, maybe the entire reason I exist, it seemed cowardly for us to help them, which would only speed the process up, but it would not slow. If it were to succeed, untold of amounts of our ancestors' tears would shed. Since Mimir was Chief now, I expected to be status quo again. The Chiefs argument came to a close, with no real winner, as expected. Their ideologies were ingrained, change only comes when Death arrives.
"Are we done?" Link said.
"Yes." Mimir said.
"Good, now, I would like to offer a proposal…" Impa voiced.
"Does it contain to swear to any fealty?"
"…No. It is a strictly a military alliance. A bond will be shared between Hyrule and the North to serve the common interest of both realms in the defeating a common foe. While the Princess is the one to propose this, she is not here, therefore, with my martial power, forge this offer." Impa said her face was straight the entire time, she was serious. The Chiefs were thinking including Mimir.
"How long will it last."
"Until either the Princess or the Chiefs of the North decide to annul it."
"We, the Snowheart and the Aurisband do accept the offer." Samuin said as expected.
"Because of this Cia threat next to us, will decide to enter this alliance." Garuni said, I was little bit shocked, but considering the circumstances it is understandable. Garuni's clan would be the first to be hit if an invasion were to happen from the west. That left us with us, Hjorn, Mimir, and me, because I was the Unbound Warrior I had a say in this alliance.
"I accept." Mimir quietly said.
"What, you cannot be serious?" I said
"Jorgen, sometimes you just have to put the old hatred aside." He told me looking me in the eyes.
"No, Hjornsteim will not support this. We are out of this war." I expected Hjorn to remain strong, but his calvary would be sorely missed. We did not need an alliance but we only non-aggression pact. However, if I opted out, I would have to leave the war. I could not just leave my brothers and sisters. For being the Unbound Warrior I felt tied to make the obligation.
"Fine, since four of the five chiefs agree, most notably Frostsplitter, my home clan. I will abide by these terms. But mark my words this the exception to the rule. I trust you have enough decency to abuse this alliance you speak of." I grandstanded to the rest of people. I felt terrible inside, I could have sworn that boy Link was smiling at me. Whether it was mockery or genuine it did get me piqued a lot.
"Here stands the First Northern-Hyrule alliance, may it serve its purposed." Impa said.
"Now, we have a Sorceress to impale. I suppose we can help in aiding that purpose, we control the west portion of this valley." I said.
"Don't worry, we'll get to the summit faster than you'll think" Link said brimming with confidence while shooting a self-assured face at me. I drew my scythe.
"You'll be cleaning the entrails by the time you get there." I said it disgusted Link, he was almost about to vomit, the Chiefs chuckled, and at least it gave some humor. Which was sorely needed.
So 12 chapters in and now doing story notes? Bah, whatever, this chapter is quite slow and on the shorter side but revealing in my opinion. I just got back from a long drive so that kind threw me off the routine, however I should be good to go. Hyrule Warriors is hard story to actually follow, but I won't let that deter me. As always, I give thanks for your time reading this.
