Charm Chapter 12

Kim POV:

That night, I lay in bed unable to sleep. Why can't we go back to the good old times? It wasn't fair that mom had to die and dad had to become a vampire. Life isn't fair! Tears started forming in my eyes and I wiped them away quickly. No, I must not cry. If mom were here what would she do?

My door cracked open and I turned toward it. Jeff stood in the doorway, faintly illuminated by the dim hallway light.

"Hey," he whispered. "You all right?"

"I guess," I sighed. He came over and lay down next to me, draping me with his warm arm.

"Really, Kim, what's the matter?" I sigh sadly.

"Life is so unfair! Why did mom have to die and dad have to become a vampire? Why can't we just remain one happy family? I mean, I'm thankful for what I have now, but I just wish I can return to those days and relive them again." Tears started streaming down my cheeks. Jeff gently wiped away the tears with his thumb.

"Shh," he said. "Don't worry, everything happens for a reason. I'm pretty sure your mom would be proud to know that you've held up against this much pressure and endured so much. Take it easy."

"Are you sure?" I hiccupped.

"Positive," he responded. I snuggled against his warm body and quickly dozed off to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up to Jeff kissing my forehead.

"Morning, sunshine," he said with a grin.

"Hey," I said softly, kissing him. He kissed me back with urgency and desire. Our tongues fought for dominance and the door opened. I gasped and jerked back, staring at the doorway. Lily stood there with a smirk on her face.

"Lily!" I cried.

"Hey Kim. Hey Jeff," she said, still smirking. "Having fun?"

"Totally," Jeff responded and I blushed.

"What do you want?" I asked brusquely.

"Oh, you know, Jason found out new information about when dad and his gang are going to attack," Lily said off handedly.

"What?" I shrieked leaping from the bed. She continued as if I hadn't said anything.

"Oh and the fact that breakfast is almost done and that if you want food, you'd better get downstairs in 10 minutes. That's it." She shrugged and smiled innocently. I sighed and went to the bathroom down the hall. I quickly cleaned up and flew downstairs.

"Whoa, slow down, Kim!" Jason said jokingly. "We left some food for you don't worry!"

"What's the news about dad and the army of newborn vampires?" I asked quickly. Jason suddenly turned serious.

"They're attacking tomorrow."

I couldn't breathe. It literally felt like someone had sucked out all my blood and I was just left standing there. The world swayed a little and I stumbled a little. A warm hand supported my and held me upright. When I started breathing again, I stared at Jason.

"How do you know?" I whispered.

"One of the Cullens told me this morning." He said. I walked as if in a daze and sat down at the table.

"So what are we going to do?" I asked. Brady cleared his throat.

"Well, obviously, you and Lily won't be safe here," Brady said. "So we were thinking that you and Lily would go far away from danger with one of us and one of the leeches to be safe." Jeff growled. He didn't seem to like the idea.

"It's OK," I said, turning to him. "I'll be fine. You take care of yourself." Jeff calmed down a little.

"Still, I don't want you going off with a leech. I mean, they could easily suck your blood!"

"Jeff, we all know that the Cullens only drink animal blood," Jason said impatiently. "Besides, it's the only plan we have now unless you come up with some other brilliant idea of what to do." Jeff sighed, defeated.

"Alright," he said reluctantly.

"Good," Jason said. "Now, once everyone is done with breakfast, we have to go meet the Cullens for one last training session. Let's go!" I sat down with Jeff and watched him eat with gusto. I could tell he was unhappy, but I stared pointedly at him. He sighed.

"Fine. See you later Kim," he kissed my forehead and left with the others. I sighed and sat down, picking at my food. I still couldn't believe that the fight would take place tomorrow. Lily sat next to me and lay her head on my shoulder.

"What do you think, Lily?" I asked her. She shrugged.

"I guess I'm ok with it," she started slowly. "I mean, obviously I don't want to go with a leech and leave Brady behind, but what other choice is there? If it's the only choice that's going to work, then I'm game." I nodded. "Besides, I should stay strong for Brady." Jen came in.

"Don't worry, the Cullens will take good care of you. Did I ever tell you about Bella Swan?" We shook our heads. "Well..." Jen began and told us how she had been hunted down by vampires because of some twisted love story and for her blood and how Bella had to leave the fighting area with a vampire and werewolf as company. It worked out fine and she's still here today. When she finished the story, I felt more confident. I guess I could survive a day with a vampire...

It was the day of the battle. I stood next to Jeff with his arms around me. I already missed him. I didn't want him to go into battle, but I knew it would be for the best.

"Don't worry," Jeff said. "Everything will be fine." He tried to sound reassuring, but I heard a slight edge behind his words. I turned to look at him.

"I trust you and as much as I don't want this to happen, it is the only way, Jeff." I said. "I love you with all my heart and I know you will do fine."

"I know, Kim," Jeff sighed. "I love you too. I'll always come back for you, no matter what."

"You'd better come back," I teased, planting a kiss on his lips. He kissed back with surprising hunger and desire and I gasped. I didn't pull away though. We sank under the power of the kiss and came up gasping for air.

"Alright, you two lovebirds done yet?" Seth complained. I looked around and saw that almost everyone had their eyes covered. Lily smirked at me. I blushed and buried my head into Jeff's shoulder.

"If you don't like it, Seth, then don't watch!" Jeff retorted. Seth shrugged and Jason cleared his throat. Before he could speak, however, all the wolves stiffened. Jeff put an arm around me and growled lowly.

"Relax," a cool male voice said. "It's just me." A tall slender figure stepped out. He had brown wavy hair, startling white skin and warm topaz eyes. He smiled.

"I take it that you are Kim and Lily," he said. "Nice to meet you. I'm Edward Cullen." I shivered and nodded my head at him.

"Oh don't be afraid," he said. "I'm nothing like your dad."

"How did you know that we're afraid?" I asked. He sighed.

"I have super hearing also and I can read your thoughts." Oh. That explains it. "Well we better get going now." I kissed Jeff one last time and set off with Edward, Seth in his wolf form and Lily.

The forest was eerily silent and all that could be heard was my footsteps and Lily's footsteps. Seth made absolutely no sound and Edward seemed to be floating above the forest floor. He chuckled.

"I'm not floating, dear," he said. "It's just the grace of the vampires." I balked but kept walking. I have got to learn how to control my thoughts. We started hiking uphill when Edward and Seth stopped. Seth growled while Edward's eyes narrowed.

"How on earth?" he said quietly.

"What is it?" Lily asked anxiously.

"Your father's here just up ahead." Edward hissed. Lily and I shared looks of terror. Oh no!

"What do we do now?" I asked, panicked. Suddenly, Edward moved. I blinked at where he was just standing, but he disappeared. Snarling came from behind me and I whirled around quickly. Edward and my dad were circling each other with narrowed eyes. Edward had his back to us, blocking the way to get to us. Me dad saw me and smiled.

"Ah, Kim, Lily," he said opening his arms. "What a surprise. How are you doing?"

"Great until you came along!" Lily spat out at him. His smile didn't waver.

"Now, now, Lily," dad chided. "Let's not forget our manners shall we?" Seth came out in front of us and barked at my dad. I stared coolly at him. He turned to me.

"Kim, come on. You know why I did this. Can we just go back to being one happy family?" I stared at him.

"You think?" I asked sarcastically. "You think one sorry is enough to take back everything that you have done to us? You abandoned us! One sorry does not just make up for years of abandonment! In fact, a million sorry's could never make up for that! I will never forgive you for your actions! You are not my dad! You are some monster who decided to come dressed up like my dad only to SUCK OUR BLOOD!" I screamed. Lily stared at me. Seth looked at me, surprised, and Edward had turned around and given me a weird look on his face. I didn't care. I was too fucking mad to care. My dad's expression had gone from smiling to surprise to anger in a matter of expressions.

"You think I had a choice?" He asked quietly. He crouched down and anger shone in his eyes. "Kim, I'm going to get you and Lily back no matter what. We are a family! Family's stick together even after some bumps in the road!" He lunged at us. Seth blocked hi way while Edward pounced on him from behind. They dragged my dad down and pinned him to the forest floor. Lily and I sat down on the slope of the hill, paralyzed. Our dad looked at us and started laughing hysterically.

"I'll see you girls later," he said. Seth growled and Edward ripped off his head.

Silence. No one spoke. Finally, Edward got up.

"We need to burn his body," he said. Lily and I slowly got up and looked for some branches. We lit a fire and watched our dad's body burn to ashes; never coming back to life. I hugged Lily close. Edward remained impassive and Seth nuzzled us. I hugged his neck and broke down as my parent burned up and disappeared.

"It's alright, Kim," Lily said. "It's all over." I nodded, wiping my tears away. I stood up shakily and turned to Edward.

"Is the battle almost over?" He nodded.

"It should be ending just about now. Let's head back." With Edward leading, Lily, Seth and I trailed after him and headed back down the mountain.

At the bottom of the hill, Jason and the rest of the were waiting for us. Jeff saw me and hugged me tight. I kissed him, glad that he was safe and sound.

"What happened on the mountain?" Jason asked Edward.

"Their father came after us and almost got them but we were able to stop him." Jeff growled as did Brady. I put my hand on Jeff's shoulder.

"It's all over now," I whispered to him. "He's gone forever." Jeff relaxed and sighed.

"Thanks you very much, Edward." Jeff said. "You have done us a huge favor." Edward shrugged and smiled.

"I guess I will see you later." He ran off into the distance. Jeff smiled down at me.

"Come on, let's get you home."

How was it? Sorry I took so long to update. There are just so many things to do at school before midterms and all. Thanks for reading! :) I'll try to update as soon as possible, but I think at the most two more chapters and then I should be finished. Happy Reading!
