Recap:

They hadn't gotten married yet, because they weren't getting married. Bianca was banging her ex-husband and Vincent had uncovered the scheme. It had probably been going on for months. How could she be so naïve? Why didn't she suspect something sooner?

Her breathing became shallow as she slammed her computer shut. Was it actually possible? Could this really be happening? She closed her eyes tightly, willing air to enter her lungs to no avail. The room began to spin as she felt the walls closing in on her.

"This is it." She thought frantically. "This is the day Jack Donaghy kills me."

Jack checked his watch, yet again. He swore he had put in a full day, but somehow the face on his wrist barely read nine a.m. He ran a hand over his face and sighed heavily. He knew that Liz was increasingly awkward in relationships. He knew she really had no idea how to behave in a socially acceptable way, but this weekend left him scratching his head.

Their relationship was solid. They had a great working rapport, and transitioned so effortlessly into dating. It seemed things only began to go downhill when he started thinking about their future together.

Did she want to spend her life with him? Did her love run as deep and as wild as his did? He quickly sat up, pushing all of his weight to the back of the chair.

"Where are you going?" Johnathan asked as his boss hurried through the office doors making his way to the elevator. Jack stepped inside without so much as a word to his assistant.

He walked briskly through the fluorescent tunnels leading to the writer's room. As the room opened, he quickly scanned, not seeing her at the table. Assuming she was in her office he headed for the corner door.

"Liz," he poked his head into her office quickly shutting the door behind him. "Liz!" He immediately rushed to her chair and kneeled in front of her. "Liz," he placed his hands on her cheeks, forcing her to meet his gaze. "You have to breathe."

She closed her eyes, trying her hardest to pry her head out of his hands. "No." she gasped for air, "No!" Jack felt his pulse quicken as she fought him.

He repeated his words anyway. "You have to breathe. Breathe."

He wasn't sure if she had given up, or if she had simply become too weak to fight him, but her eyes finally returned to his, pooling with tears as she tried desperately to calm herself.

"Deep breath in…" he watched as she inhaled sporadically, causing her body to tremble. "and out." Jack repeated his instructions until her breaths became steady and silent tears streamed down her pale cheeks.

He took her in his arms, knowing she needed this moment for comfort. He didn't need to press her with questions immediately. "Just keep breathing..." he whispered into her hair. "deep breath in, and let it out. You're okay. You're okay…" His heart broke when he felt the wetness of her tears against his neck.

The office remained silent for quite some time, save an occasional sob that betrayed Liz and escaped her trembling lips. Jack finally decided he needed to speak up. Gently, he pushed her back, holding her at arm's length.

"What happened?"

She bit her lip, trying to hold herself together. "Please don't do it." She whispered hoarsely.

"What are you talking about?" He ran his hand over her hair as a look of confusion washed over him.

"I knew you were too good for me when this whole thing started…" she closed her eyes, steadying her breath before lifting her eyes back to his face. "I knew something was going on, I just didn't think—"

"You know?" he asked, a slight disappointment in his tone.

Her eyes grew wide. She was convinced her mind had been playing with her. She assumed she was being unreasonable. Jack having an affair with his ex-wife? That was absurd! Yet here he stood, confirming her suspicions.

She quickly pushed him away, feeling too overwhelmed to even look at him. She fought a wave of nausea as she turned to the window. "Oh my god, oh god. No, no, no, no, no."

Jack watched as she fell apart in front of him. "Lemon, I thought you would be excited about this. I love you and I want to spend my life with you!"

She jerked her head to catch his stare. "What?" Suddenly the panic was gone and confusion had taken its place. "What are you talking about."

"I'm talking about giving you a ring…" he trailed off raising an eyebrow at the frazzled brunette. "What are you talking about?"

She laughed nervously, rubbing a hand behind her neck. She avoided his gaze as she pondered whether or not to confide in him.

"I—uh—I thought you might be, I don't know why, but you have been acting weird, and Jenna was avoiding all of my conversations about you, so I went to page six and looked for Bianca's wedding announcement and it wasn't there, and Vincent Foley found out about you two, and they broke it off, and then I had a panic attack…"

He stood, unable to process the words spilling from her mouth. "Huh?" He was utterly confused.

"I kind of thought you and Bianca might be having an affair." She admitted sheepishly. "That's why I thought you were acting weird."

He stepped closer, pulling her into his arms. "I love you. I want to spend my life with you." He placed a gentle kiss on her lips, assuring her of his words. "Why would I need Bianca when I have a woman as wonderful as you?"

She leaned into his chest, feeling her heartbeat slow. She had fallen… hard. She didn't want Jack to define her, but her fears only showed him how deeply her love ran. Indeed, it was as wild as his own. He knew he had made the right choice.

"Liz," he finally pulled the ring box out that he had been carrying for weeks. "Will you marry me?"

A/N: This is not how I expected this chapter to go, but you know sometimes you just keep typing and you kind of like the end product... I hope you like this chapter. I'm thinking this might be the end. Perhaps I will do an epilogue? I'm not sure about that yet.
