CHAPTER 12 Joshua and Ginevra
Ever since the the Great Hall mishap, Luna and Draco were inseparable. Who knew the two students would bond that close? More so, even bump onto one another too loudly, causing impact? Certainly, Blaise didn't. He is always there, behind Malfoy, eyeing whether something suspicious would come knocking their cover down. But it turns out, Malfoy, alone, was throwing darts on their shield. He wasn't sure if it was all part of his cheeky best friend's act, but at some point, he knew even the most hardest stones can break with Luna Lovegood's soft demeanor. That blond git will surely meet the girl halfway. Yet, the things that worry him were Malfoy's way of thinking and the thick walls of pride he was raised to perfect with. Surely drama would ensure. He was certain of it.
"Hey Zabini" With the familiar voice and his name, he lolled his head to his side, following the trail of where the voice was.
On that afternoon of the last day of September, Blaise didn't feel like going to his Charms class, he was feeling light headed and has too much to think about. Things about the bet and especially the death eater task Draco was having troubles with. He was sure that Draco was no murderer, but Draco's certainly not a saint either, and what would happen if he drags Luna right into his mess?
"Weaslette" He smirked, hiding the confusion and guilt that were spread in his eyes. The red haired girl nodded at him, coming closer and closer to his spot.
She sat next to him without a word, her eyes trailing to the far distant, but her eyebrows were dead serious. He raised his own one, question her appearance and the hidden agenda behind her surprising proximity. They were not in good terms ever since the first time they laid their eyes to each other. It had always been sort of their thing. There wasn't a certain reason except, probably, being in different teams in Quidditch, or the obvious line between their social groups, it could also be their competitive and spunky strike. They have too much fun when they burst out fumes when the other is around.
"Why are you here?" He was pretty sure, in his spontaneous mind, that Weaslette had the same reason why she was out strolling the school grounds when she was supposed to be busy. Some classes are better off being tackled in the common room, with having the words written as the professor. He smirked, somehow interested with the way she was acting properly " I don't know what's going on with you and Malfoy but I trust Luna. With that being said, I warn you Zabini, your little ferret of a best friend should better not break her heart or you'll face me" He can feel her her eyes boring holes at his temple. In return, he moved so he could stare right back. Both of their brown orbs met, and hers were surprisingly warm, a new look for him to witness; considering that they seem to be permanently feisty.
He removed his head from her gaze. He couldn't bring himself to look, it wasn't fair. He would surrender right there in the instant. After all, he had always been a little infatuated with the girl next to him.
"Well, you've got nothing to worry about" He knows that he would lose anyway, so why would he betray Draco? Infact, maybe Weaslette wouldn't be such a pain if she would stop being so hard to get.
She shrugged her shoulders at him, her brows pinpointing her distrust. She doesn't trust him enough to let it go so easily. He couldn't blame her, she was Luna's best friend after all, he would do the same if he was her.
"Merlin Weasley, why must you annoy me so much?"
"Well surprise Zabini, the feeling is mutual"
She sighed dramatically. Her composition crumbling, her back bent and her hands folded awkwardly upon her lap. "I just don't want her to get hurt okay? She is the nicest person I have ever met and she deserves so much better-" He also understands what she was worried about. After these past few days, he found himself pitying Luna. She is a ball of sunshine around the Slytherin table, and it feels like their bet is sending them towards the hands of the dementors. He found himself shrug absentmindedly, and the girl thought it was an expression that tells her to continue "-she deserves someone who would love her as much as how she loves everyone around her" her words were firm and commanding, knowing her, Blaise took it as a threat.
It is though.
Even if he is quite the actor with lying, he can't shrug his guilt when he looked at her eyes, they were pleading and trusting him to tell her something good, some reassurance. He couldn't lie. She deserves a good response when she selflessly went her way just for her best friend's well being.
When he responded, he was sure that he didn't gave any information and so is to lose her trust "Luna is lovely, and Draco adores her"
After a long pregnant pause, he scowled at her, clearly in awe with the knowledge of her, doubting him
"Are you saying that you don't trust me, my dear Ginevra? I am deeply wounded"
Weaslette coughed, her once nervous state is back to her usual fire. She swatted her hair from her shoulders down to her back, her eyes shining with their usual heat. Who knew that he can easily tune the girl fiery with a single name? A bright smirk fell on his face. Now, he can use it against her anytime he wanted her attention.
"Ginny."
"We're on nickname-terms now? Wait, does this mean we're best friends forever?"
She rolled her eyes and her own bright smirk was suddenly on her face. Her hand went around his wrist, warning him. "I got my eyes on you Joshua" she said, her eyes blinking and voice sweet. With that mark, she jumped from their bench, stretching out to the setting sun. The usual competitive glint playing in her eyes.
Blaise was hypnotized by the girl's retreating figure. For a moment, he stayed rooted on his spot, trying to drink her words in and what it would mean. Would it be possible for her to figure him out that easily? Should he start looking much more closely to their actions? Should he start helping Draco?
And when did she learn about his second name?
"I would like to see you try Ginevra" Once he gathered an ample of sense, he reverted back., The girl turned around and rolled her eyes playfully at him.
He wasn't sure if he should feel threatened or not, but one thing for sure, he wouldn't let her win so easily.
Ugh, I don't know :( I'm sorry.
