Chapter 11: A Difficult Decision
You know all that jazz with the Devil May Cry belonging to Capcom and such.
Stygian continued to stare at her child with soft eyes. She was hoping that something would allow her to become free and that she would run. Maybe there would be a way to free her daughter, but Stygian had no such luck. Osiris had begun to writhe in her restraints in a vain attempt to become free then promptly passed out from the stress she was putting herself through. The sight was sad. The feeling of depression enveloped the room, that and anxiety and fear.
'When that witch returns one of us will die…' thought Stygian
'Perhaps she will only kill me, but I do not wish for Osiris to live through this torture. I wish her to be free. I will free her.'
She closed her eyes in hope an idea would come to her and was unaware of what was occurring. Her will to fight ignited something within her. Blue flames slowly enveloped Stygian and she had yet to notice the now blazing fire around her.
'That flame is the same as the one Osiris had summoned earlier.' Vergil thought to himself.
The heat of the flames scorched everything but the nephilim. Stygian only became aware of what was happening when she slammed to the floor with a thud.
Looking around dazed and confused, she noticed that the chains that were once restraining her were now nothing more than a puddle of slag.
With a renewed vigor pumping through her veins, Stygian made her way to Osiris. She had the intent of freeing her from her restraints. The only thing she was able to do was burn her.
Osiris woke up with a jolt and recoiled from the being in front of her.
"Who are you? You aren't my momma! My momma would never hurt me!" The young Osiris breathed.
"Shh! Please be quiet love! I am so sorry I hurt you. I never would want to hurt you like they do. I am trying to free you love. Please quiet yourself as best you can baby. This is going to hurt and I am so very sorry. I am going to free you from the restraints, ok?"
Osiris still continued to struggle away from her mother in a vain attempt to ease the pain she thought was going to be unleashed on her.
Stygian was devastated at her daughter's reaction, but that could not get in her way. She grabbed the restraints that were holding Osiris' lower half and melted them down.
Osiris was screaming the whole way. The burning sensation was far too great for her tiny frame to bear and she passed out again. The burns that were on her legs started knitting themselves together, this meant that Stygian needed to hurry and free her daughter so she would not wake up and make more noise.
As Stygian was freeing her she could feel her coming back. The so called Queen of the underworld was making a reappearance. She was probably going to finish one of them off. Stygian was struggling to melt the upper restraints, her fire was waning out. She managed it and pulled her daughter free, scorching her unconscious daughters sides in the process. While quickly putting her daughter down, Stygian noticed the dark aura of the Queen approaching fast. She had stopped just short of the door, turned away, and then just vanished.
This was common place here. Stygian and Osiris were always painfully aware of when the Queen was near. Sometimes the Queen would pass by just to scare them, though the time between the scare and the real thing were never far apart. This action never let them truly relax, that blasted witch fed herself off of fear and the two nephilims were a great source.
Stygian knew she had to hurry and try to escape with her daughter, but she was becoming too weak. She had used a lot of her power to try and get her and her daughter free, she could barely stand. Her time here suffering hadn't helped her to begin with either.
Movement caught Stygian eye. Osiris was starting to move in her unconsciousness. This minute movement turned to intense thrashing. The fire that was around Stygian died down and it seemed to leach any energy she had before, so holding her daughter in an attempt to comfort her was tough. Even though it was hard to do in her current state, Stygian held her precious daughter close, feeling her essence flowing through her. Tears pricked Stygian's eyes. Thoughts of this being the last time that she'd ever hold her daughter flooded her mind. She sat against the wall and held her daughter so close and silently cried. Little did Stygian know that she was subconsciously dumping any power she had into Osiris. This caused Osiris to wake up and struggle out of her mother's grasp. Stygian was shocked by Osiris's sudden movement, could do nothing about it; all she could do was slump against the wall and try not to fall to the side. She then realized what she had started doing by looking at her daughter. Osiris looked more alert and lively, her eyes no longer held that glazed over look, and her body seemed to have healed all previous wounds completely. She knew what she must have looked like, weak and close to the end. This did not frighten the older nephilim. She knew how her daughter was going to live through this, but it was going to cost Stygian her being, but that was a cost worth paying for her daughters safety.
"Sweetheart please come here. It is important. I know how to save you." She pleaded
All Osiris did was shake her head and stepped back a step.
"Honey I can't get to you. I can't get up, so please come over here. It is important that I tell you how to get out. I swear on my life that I'd never hurt you like they did. I only hurt you to get you free from those blasted chains. I won't hurt you anymore. Please, please Osiris. Please listen to your mother. You know I love you. Please don't go farther away. I need you please I will keep you safe from them from this point on. This I swear on my life."
"O…ok. Mo…mo…Momma." Osiris whispered as she slowly made her way towards her mother.
Stygian held out her hand for Osiris to grasp as she got closer. When she did that was when she really noticed how weak she had gotten. Her fingers, her arm; they were just skin and bone. Her once ethereal appearance was now withered down to nothing but knobby bones protruding grotesquely out of sickly grey skin. She was struggling to keep her arm out for Osiris. As it was about to go down when her daughter latched on to her hand like a life line. Even still Osiris got closer, and as she did so Stygian spoke.
"Dear heart, I am going to give you every drop of my power. I will guide you to safety through our connection. Unfortunately, I will not be able to go with you as I currently am. I will become your devil arm. I will protect you."
Osiris started to shake her head as she stared at her mother with wide teary eyes.
"Please do not cry. It is the only way you can be free. I cannot make it as I currently am. I'm sorry. Please forgive me my love."
Stygian pulled her daughter close held her daughter, willing any energy she had left to go to her daughter. That is when she felt it. It felt like a string snapping. She tilted her daughters head up and kissed her forehead in good bye. Osiris looked up with big eyes and started to cry.
"Please… don't cry love, be strong. And remember, I will always be with you and love you. You can do it, you can be free. I believe in you." Stygian said in a whisper.
Osiris held onto her for dear life but then, in a matter of seconds her mother was gone in a show of brilliant light. In her place was a crystal fashioned to a brilliant silver chain lay in the little girl's hand.
I'm sorry I'm mean. I am also sorry I was gone for so long. Hopefully I will be able to post more.
