Chapter 12
Freddie bangs hard against the large, smooth oak door. He focuses his anger on the door, his fist hitting it with such force, such determination that it takes Ziggy yelling his name to get him to stop. He takes in a deep breath, trying to reign in his temper. They're outside the twins dad's house, Cameron had led them there and now him and Ziggy are stood at the front door, Freddie focusing his anger at an inanimate object and Ziggys just trying not to get killed.
"FREDDIE!" Ziggy yells again, the panic that's just settled into his stomach flows through his voice and snaps Freddie out of his angry trance. Freddie turns round slowly and is greeted by two large, muscular men dressed in black and holding two pistols to their heads. Freddie isn't fazed by the gun pointed at himself, in his line of work he become pretty accustomed to this but Ziggy's never had to deal with anything like this, the most life threatening thing Ziggys ever had to face is his ex girlfriends wrath.
The oak door that's now behind them creaks open; standing in the middle surrounded by the rich, blood red décor inside is the Roscoes' greatest enemy. He stands there, arms folded, face hidden in the shadows. "Hello boys, long time no see" he chuckles coldly. Then as quickly as he came into view he disappears again, back into his house. Freddie and Ziggy stare at each other, unsure what exactly their meant to do, do they follow him or stay out here? Before they can make up their own mind though its made for them as the huge men with the guns shove the guns into the brothers backs, pushing them towards the entrance and into the house. They're pushed through the hallway and into a dark red lounge. Sitting inside there, on the cream leather sofa is the twin's dad. He doesn't even get up when the boys enter the room, barely even glances in their direction. The guards position them selves in between Freddie and Ziggy and the exit, so they're trapped.
Feeling a mix of anxiety, worry and anger Freddie is overcome by a boost of adrenaline and with that, confidence. The confidence to confront and feel powerful around the man who abused his youngest brothers for so long, a man in which he'd long though dead.
"Where are Robbie and Jase?" he asks, stepping slightly closer to the sitting man and pushing his shoulders back to make him self seem more threatening. The twin's dad doesn't even blink.
"They're not your concern any more," the twin's dad tells Freddie. His voice has no emotion, as though he's just simply stating a fact.
"They're my brothers! They will always be my concern" Freddie yells, anger and frustration filling him. How could this monster be back? For Freddie it's as though he's a zombie rose from the dead, and the shock of finding out that Joe had let him go free, just walk out unscathed after everything he did. Freddie's angry, angry with his dad, and angry with Joe for letting him go. Right now though Freddie cant let loose his anger, his protective instinct of his younger brothers is too strong.
The twin's dad laughs and gestures towards the two armed men with the guns. "Do you understand who I am, what I can do to you, you ignorant boy with one click of my finger you'll end up with a bullet through your thick skull" he yells, getting up slowly as he does so and stalking closer to Freddie. This small movement adds a much, much more threatening atmosphere surrounding the twin's dad.
Ziggy begins to feel uneasy, especially as Freddie is showing no sign of backing down and the men with the guns are now raising them towards Freddie's head. Ziggy grabs onto Freddie's arm and tries to get his attention but Freddie just brushes him off and squares up against the twin's dad as though he didn't even touch him.
The twin's dad laughs menacingly. "You'd do well to back down boy" he orders Freddie who scoffs in response. At this the twins dad's face turns into an ugly scowl. "Your gonna die Roscoe," and as he says that he gestures towards the gun men with his hand, Freddie turns to face the gun man just as he shots his weapon.
BANG!
Jason jumps up startled by the loud noise piercing through his peaceful dream. Immediately regretting this action he gently sits back down on the bed groaning slightly at his aching head and holding onto his painful dislocated arm. Robbie's next to him seconds after he wakes up, having been over by the door trying to listen through the wood and attempting to find that source of the banging. Jason looks Robbie up and down, he's on edge, his hands are shaking and his eyes are darting.
"What's wrong?" Jason questions Robbie, concern filling him. Robbie turns to him and laughs.
"Look at you Jase, you're a mess and your concerned about me," he says, somewhat proud of his brother. He quickly masks that over and returns to his normal self, if not a slightly more agitated version of himself. "I think that was a gun" he tells Jason, not letting the panic that he's feeling enter his voice. He doesn't know what the source of the gunshot was but he knows that it can't mean anything good for them.
Robbie puts his arm round Jason's shoulder and squeezes it protectively; no matter what maybe coming for them Robbie will protect Jason.
"Shit" Ziggy says looking down at the dead body. Blood oozes from the bullet wound and Ziggy can't help but stare, watch as it trickles down his dark shirt and into a puddle around him on the floor. Feeling nauseous Ziggy looks up at his eldest brother. Joe's face is deathly pale, his eyes fixed on the dead body, his own body shaking violently. Ziggy steps forward and clasps his hands around Joes shaking ones, feeling the gun contained in them and gently removing it from his grasp. Joe breaks eye contact with the dead body and looks at Ziggy in the eyes, comforted by Ziggys calm yet concerned glare. He swallows the hysteria rising in his throat, finally getting control of himself after his entrance into the tense red room. "It's over" Ziggy tells him and Joe nods in agreement, after everything he'd finally managed to do the right thing for his family.
Minuets Earlier…
Joe and Cameron enter into the twin's dad's home from the back door, with Ziggy and Freddie distracting him from the front it's surprisingly effortless for them to sneak in. Cameron picks the locks and the two of them briskly sneak into the house.
They make their way through the extravagant halls until they reach the lounge; Joe peers into it, seeing two large men, most likely armed, standing in the door way. In front of them are Ziggy then Freddie and the twin's dad squaring off against each other. Joe watches as the twins dad raises his arm, and the guard follows suit, raising his gun and stepping past Ziggy so the gun is resting against Freddie's head.
A new sense of urgency pressing on the eldest roscoe brother he turns to Cameron. Gesturing for her to stay put. Sneaking round so he's directly behind the guard blocking the doorway Joe reaches up with the vase and brings it down hard on his head. With a crash the guard falls to the ground, unconscious. Everyone in the room turns to face Joe shocked, including the guard who was holding the gun to Freddie's head but is now lowering it as his concentration shifts from Freddie to Joe. Seeing his opportunity Joe charges at the guard, knocking him to the ground, the guard hits his head on the ground with the force of the tackle. Now on top of him he pins down the dazed guard with one arm whilst grabbing the gun with his other. Now clasping the gun firmly in his hand he raises it and hits the guard round the head with enough force to knock him unconscious. With the now two unconscious guards Joe shifts his focus to the last threat in the room; the twin's dad. Joe gets up from the guard, and raises his gun towards the twin's dad. Who in a panicked fit grabs Freddie and lifts the gun from where it was tucked into his trousers, pressing it against Freddie's temple.
Both Ziggy and Joe instinctively step forward.
"I wouldn't come any closer, unless you want to see your brothers brains splattered across the walls" the twin's dad threatens, letting out a little laugh, enjoying the thought of killing one of the Roscoe brothers.
Both Ziggy and Joe freeze with fear that any movement could result in their brother's death.
"Look man," Joe begins, raising his hands and lowering the weapon slowly. "We don't want no trouble, ok, you win" he tells him, standing back up, his gun now on the floor.
Feeling confidant and in control, the twins dad sucks in a deep breath, letting out all the tension he was feeling before and reigning in all the confidence and surety he can. Of course he won, he always wins with Joe Roscoe, he'd gotten the better of him last time, pretending to give up when in actual fact he never planned on giving up, not on his boys. And know, Joe is still weaker than him, easily controlled and manipulated. For a second he forgets where he is, he forgets to hold the gun up and lets it drop slightly, overcome with a sense of arrogance, believing that he's invincible, never to be beaten by the Roscoe brothers.
Noticing him relaxing his hold on the gun Freddie seizes the opportunity. He swiftly lifts his arm, grabbing onto the hand holding the gun and squeezing as tight as possible. With a yelp the twin's dad drops the gun and Freddie jumps out of his reach.
Seeing that Freddie is now out of danger Joe bends down quickly picking his gun back up and aiming it, once again, at the twin's dad.
Unable to accept defeat the twin's dad lunges for Joe, control purely by the rage that loosing, one again to Joe Roscoe creates within him.
Before Joe realises it the twin's dad is on top of him, dropping him to the ground, gun still in hand and tangled between both bodies Joe pulls the trigger.
BANG!
The gun goes off, Freddie and Ziggy watch on at the scene helplessly, not sure whether it's Joe who's been shot or the monster currently on top of him. For what feels like hours but is really merely seconds they boys just stand there watching both men lay still on the floor.
Slowly Joe pushes the limp body off of him, standing up shakily he's happy when he feels the supportive hands of his brothers steadying him.
"Come", he says gently, "let's go get our brothers back".
Robbie hears the door begin to open. He stands up, shoulders back, head tilted up, in between Jason and the door. The door opens and Robbie nearly drops to the ground with relief. Joe, Freddie and Ziggy rush into the room, Freddie and Ziggy stop to give Robbie a hug, and despite himself he hugs back finally feeling safe and enjoying every minuet of that recently lost feeling.
Joe rushes over to Jason who's sitting on the bed, arms held against his chest, one arm cradling the other. Joe bends down taking in the bruised body of his youngest brother and feels a jolt of anger towards the now dead dad. He reaches out to touch his shoulder in support but pulls his arm back quickly as Jason hisses with pain.
Robbie rushes over when he hears Jason's pained noise. He pushes Joe aside and crouches in front of Jason, Joe, Freddie and Ziggy watch on as Robbie takes care of Jason. Once he's done checking him over he helps Jason up and both boys turn to their brothers.
"Are we going home now?" Jason asks his brothers.
"Yeah" Joe nods, trying to keep his 'cool' whilst he looks at a broken Jason and Robbie who has his arms round his shoulder, supporting him both physically and emotionally. Joe can see how much this experience has changed his brothers, how its brought them closer together.
The five brother's walk out of the house safely, together.
Cameron can hear the noises of a fight in the lounge. Joe had told her to wait here but it's clear to Cameron that she's on her own now, the Roscoe's don't need her any more and she cant wait any longer to find her littler brother. Leaving the spot Joe had told her to wait in she beings exploring the house. Making her way quickly down the varying halls, opening each door and feeling a stab of disappointment every time they're empty. Her desperation growing she reaches the end of the corridor. Her hand shaking she slowly opens the door, not looking into the room till the doors fully opened. Glancing up she lets out a breath she didn't even realise she was holding. Tied on a chair is her little brother, he may be beaten and he may be restrained but he's alive which is everything she'd been wishing for since he was first taken. She enters the room, running over to untie him. She cups his face in her hands, looking into his wide brown eyes.
"Cameron?" Liam questions, his voice hoarse from crying and screaming. Cameron gently strokes his cheek, wiping a tear from his bruised cheek. Liam smiles looking into his sister eyes, knowing that know she'd here he's finally safe.
