His hand lingered on the door, doubting whether to knock or not. It was hard for him. Too hard indeed. His friend, his most cherished friend, was hurting, dying out of grief and pain and ever lasting sorrow. He knew that much. His once proud tail was now dull and brittle. His once shiny blue orbs now lacked luster and strength. And his once cheerful and overly curious personality had turned gloomy and way much quiet. In his very core he hoped that whatever he was about to suggest will revive that bright ember inside of his heart and bring back what once used to be called the obnoxious merman. He missed that merman. Missed him so much that he hardly ate and slept due to worry. He had tried everything. Everything that once brought a smile to Link's face now drew a painful aura about him. What once made him laugh endlessly, made him cry his soul. Sheik was desperate. But was he that desperate to leave the fate of his dearest person in the hands of a sea monster…a sea demon? He knew not what the sea wizard could possibly do for his friend, but the rumors and whispers in the sea were ill coated, filled with fear and terror at the wizard's antics and spells. The very man was painted as a foul demon born from embers and dead flesh. Some claimed his mind had been ebbed with evil thoughts that Poseidon wished to part with and that he had accepted them as his own in order to obtain the god's secrets. Others claimed that he found treasure at the deepest parts of the ever blue and that it poisoned his very mind and essence driving him mad with greed and envy. Some even said that he absorbed lost souls at the sea and festered his own life just for the sake of power. Ill rumors indeed. Too evil to be of any consolation for the poor red eyed merman. Too appalling for him to dare to tell his friend, and light in his poor desolated heart any hope. He gulped and sighed, trying in a way to rest his throbbing heart and his troubled soul. What must he do? The eels had claimed that the wizard was the only chance Link could ever have of reuniting with his beloved. As much as it pained him…Ganondorf was the only hope they had left. He was the only one with that much power, besides King Daphnes, that could aid them. He had what Sheik didn't…magic. Ancient magic that only elite mermen can only dream of having and that Sheik wished he could possess. Damn it! He thought. Damn it all! He banged his fist on a nearby wall.

"Why?..." He sobbed. "Why?..." Any road he chose will only end in tragedy. If he left Link in the hands of time, one day he was sure to find him dead on his bed. If he handed Link to the sea wizard, Poseidon knows what the demon could do to him. If he kept on pushing Link, if he kept on forcing happiness unto his friend, he was bound to be hated. He rather die than let that happen. He looked out the window…midnight was almost upon them. His blurry and tear filled eyes turned to look at his doom, Link's white door remained closed. "Forgive me…" Sheik whispered and swam. "Forgive me..." His heavy heart was crushing him, his shoulders shook with silent sobs. "Forgive me…" His fists clenched at his sides, trying to squeeze tightly the emotions his eyes were sure to show if anyone saw him. "Forgive me please." The ominous door stood powerfully before him, and with one last glance at the moonlit ocean he sobbed heavily in silence. Falling to the floor the ocean claimed the tears of a once proud merman, filling her bosom with the deep melancholy of her children.

"Where are you taking me, Sheik?" Link asked as he was lead through the deep blue. He wasn't in the mood for anything anymore. Treasure hunting brought no joy, seeing Tingle and anything related to the surface made him cringe. Even hanging out with his friends brought no meaning to his meager existence. His heart yearned for nothing. His soul called for eternal rest. His whole life had become something that weighted him down. Whatever joy and light that existed in his world had been put out by the hands of his very existence. He was so tired, so exhausted from just waking up. There were times that it all became too much and he wished, he sometimes wished that he woke up no more. As the days progressed, that thought grew and took root in his worn-out heart. It grew and fed from his depression, from his sorrow it nurtured, until it was the only thought that remained in him. To wake up no more…what a wonderful dream. Never to feel, never to hurt, never to suffer from heartbreak, from love. Nothing. Just everlasting nothingness. For Link, that though became like a prayer, like an ideal future. And so this morning when he woke up, he planned everything. How he will end it all. How we will leave this realm. And how soon he will be in peace. How soon his days will turn to ash and his nights to smithereens. He would suffer no more, he would cry no more. He would be nothing anymore. He planned it perfectly. His last words were written in a piece of parchment in his desks left drawer. What he had managed to salvage from his possessions, he had put them on a pouch and hid it where surely Navi and Sheik will find it after the grieving had ended. He had left them all. For his father…his adoptive father he had decided to leave a dairy he kept. He had written that on the parchment. In that dairy he had written everyday for the past sixteen years, he just hoped that when all had been read and digested…he could change his mind about the surface. Perhaps with his parting he could aid those who believe the same as he, spare someone else the pain of being separated from his human loved one. And so when Sheik came to his room this night, he had decided that he would do whatever his friend asked for one last time. Just this one last time. Before all ended, he should at least give his best friend the joy of playing together one last time. For now, he will do whatever Sheik wished. He will miss him. When all is done and said, he will miss him. He wanted to at least bring the memory of his dearest friend with him. He owed him that much. He hoped that he could remember him wherever he was going. How his red eyes lit with wonder upon man's crafts and trinkets. How his smile was rare and scarce, but with him it was ever present. How his red scaled shimmered beautifully when the sun's rays touched them. How his swimming was graceful and almost ethereal. He was truly a merman to behold and whomever he ended up with will be a very lucky merfolk. Sheik was passionate and generous, kind and protective of his dear ones. He wished he could be there to see his friend live a happy life, but the burden of his own was unbearable. Sheik…I hope you live a full and happy life. Link thought bitterly. I will miss you, dear friend.

As they swam along the night darkened blue sea, Link observed Sheik's figure before him and wondered if Sheik would miss him when he left. Would he weep? Would he grieve? Would he forget him? He was suddenly afraid to leave. He feared that he would become a lingering memory on his friend's mind; a spontaneous thought that would vanish with time. Would you weep for me, Sheik? Or will you look at my remains with your stoic red eyes? Would I ever cross your mind with the passing of years? Would you remember me at all? Perhaps you will pity me. Yes. You will most likely. You hate defeatists. You hate the crybabies and the whining. Link observed the majestic red tailed of his friend and his strong back that never faltered upon the hardships he encountered. Link looked away. He was suddenly ashamed for what he was about to do. He was embarrassed of his cowardice. But what could he possibly do? How could he possibly go on? He was drowning in his own, he was being choked and betrayed by his heart. It was becoming just too much to handle. He saw no way out of his darkness. And so, he must end it all before it destroyed him at all. While he was still sane, he must end it all. Forgive me…but I can't no more.

"We are here." Sheik's voice broke him from his reverie.

"What?" Link looked about. He didn't recognize this place. It was too shady and too far from the castle. He had never swum so far from the palace.

"I have brought the one I spoke of. He will hear you out and make his decision that best suits him, so…SHOW YOURSELVES!" Sheik spoke out with a firm and strong voice. What was happening? Sheik…where have you brought me?

"I see him, Koume." A hissy voice came from underneath a giant stone at their left.

"He has come, Kotake." Another hissy voice answered with mirth. A pair of yellow eyes shone in the darkness.

"Sheik…what is this?" Link asked afraid of what the darkness hid. He turned to Sheik, but his red eyes were fixed in the darkness. Link felt fear and confused. Where was he? "Sheik…where have you brought me?"

"I have brought you before Koume and Kotake." Sheik answered, his eyes ever glued to the moving yellow lights in the darkness. Two yellow light that were slowly making their way to them.

"Koume and Kotake?" Link backed away from Sheik. But a firm hand moved to clench on his wrist.

"Do not leave." Sheik ordered. Never had Link seen him so cold.

"Sheik let me go." Link said and in vain tried to loosen Sheik's grip on him.

"No." Sheik stated and for the first time since the beginning of their trip did those red eyes turned to him. "You will hear them out."

"Let me go Sheik!" Link screamed afraid. The yellow orbs where almost upon them.

"No." Once more, Sheik denied his request.

"Please…" Link begged.

"No." Sheik answered indifferently. Link's terrified gaze was crushing him, especially since he had placed it there. But he had to do this. He had to this, for Link's well being he will risk it all. Even his heart.
