Chapter 12: You're Forbidden…

The four couples enjoyed their time at the theater, and were now making their way back home. Unfortunately for Inuyasha and Kagome, Kikyo was in the mall as well and saw them kiss. She was angry, and swore to get revenge against Kagome. If she couldn't have Inuyasha, then she didn't want him with anyone else, especially Kagome.

Inuyasha was walking Kagome back home. They were laughing and playing until they arrived at the massive steps of Higurashi Shrine. They both sighed heavily, they weren't ready to leave each other just yet.

"Well," said Kagome, "I guess I better go."

Inuyasha nodded in agreement. He knew what kind of person Mrs. Higurashi was, and didn't want Kagome to get into trouble. "I'll see you at school on Monday," said Inuyasha with a grin.

He then pulled Kagome close to him and they shared one last passionate kiss for the night. Kagome watched as Inuyasha shrunk in the distance with a smile on her face. It felt like a dream come true. She happily made her way up the countless steps of the shrine and into her house. Souta saw Kagome and happily ran up to her.

"Hey Sis!" yelled Souta happily. "How was the movie?"

"Hey Souta," said Kagome with a happy sigh. "It was great. Oh and I talked to Inuyasha today too."

"That's great Sis! You have to tell me all about it!" exclaimed Souta.

With that said, the siblings made their way to Kagome's room. Mrs. Higurashi heard her kids happily chattering, so she made her way to Kagome's room as well to see what they were talking about. She pressed her ear against the door to eavesdrop on the conversation.

"So what does Inuyasha look like?" asked Souta. He never met Inuyasha before.

"Well, he's tall, muscular, has long silver hair, amber eyes, and the cutest puppy ears at the top of his head," said Kagome.

"Puppy ears?" asked Souta with a puzzled look. "He's a dog demon?"

"Well half to be precise," said Kagome. She knew Souta never met any demons or hanyous before.

"Oh that's so cool!" exclaimed Souta; he always wanted to meet one. "You know you have to introduce me to him right? Especially since he's your boyfriend," said Souta teasingly.

After hearing that, Mrs. Higurashi quickly opened her daughter's room door. She had a look of rage on her face. Kagome and Souta looked at her and knew what was about to ensue.

"A hanyou?! You're dating a hanyou?!" she yelled angrily.

Kagome cursed herself for forgetting to lock her room door. Her mom quickly ruined her mood, and she really didn't feel like dealing with her right now.

"Yeah I'm dating a hanyou! So what?!" yelled Kagome angrily.

"You're not going to date a hanyou! They're filthy creatures!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi.

Kagome looked at her mother with more hate in her eyes than ever before. How dare she say that about Inuyasha? She had some nerve!

"Well, he's way better than any of the men you've ever been with," retorted Kagome furiously.

Souta began feeling uneasy because he hated when they argued. He didn't understand why their mom was reacting this way. He didn't see the big deal about Kagome dating a hanyou. "Come on mom," began Souta. "it can't be that bad-"

"It's a disgrace!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi. "No child of mine will be dating anyone with demon lineage! I forbid it! You're not to talk to this Inuyasha ever again!"

"You just hate seeing me happy! It's not my fault you're so damn miserable! You can't stop me from seeing him again!" yelled Kagome with more fury than before.

"If you ever see that hanyou again, you'll regret it," said Mrs. Higurashi in a threatening tone.

"Like I said before, you can't stop me!!" yelled Kagome.

Mrs. Higurashi looked at her daughter angrily and Kagome glared at her with disgust. She couldn't believe this woman was her mother! Souta was fidgeting nervously, praying to Kami they were done. He looked at them as they continued to stare daggers at each other, neither of them blinking or turning away.

"If that's all you have to say," began Kagome, "get out of my room."

"This isn't over Kagome," said Mrs. Higurashi. "If you bring that filthy half breed anywhere near this house, you'll regret it."

"Like I would ever want to bring him here," said Kagome with a sarcastic tone.

Mrs. Higurashi stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Souta sighed with relief; it was finally over.

"I still don't see what the big deal is," said Souta after a few moments of awkward silence.

"Ugh, me either. She's just being a bitch like always," replied Kagome.

"Do I still get to meet him?" asked Souta.

"Of course," said Kagome with a warm smile to reassure her brother. "We'll come to one of your soccer practices that mom doesn't go to. All you have to do is call me and let me know that she's not there."

"Really? Cool!" exclaimed Souta happily. He couldn't wait to finally meet a demon… well a half demon, but demon none the less.

After that, Kagome continued to tell Souta about the time she spent with Inuyasha. Souta was so happy for her; he's never seen her so happy. So why was their mom trying to ruin it?

Monday came and Kagome happily got ready for school. She couldn't wait to see Inuyasha. She picked out one of her favorite outfits and quickly dressed herself. She hurried downstairs, said bye to Souta, and quickly ran out the door.

As she walked to InuTaisho High, she met up with Sango as usual, but this time Miroku was with her. The three of them were talking casually, and Sango occasionally hit Miroku for being a hentai, when Inuyasha showed up.

"I thought I'd walk with you to school," said Inuyasha sheepishly.

"How sweet of you," said Kagome with a warm smile.

The four of them continued on their way to school, laughing and joking. When they finally reached the school, all eyes went to Inuyasha and Kagome who were holding hands. Many of them felt jealous; the guys tried so hard since freshman year to go out with Kagome and she always turned them down, but here she was with the new guy. The girls were angry because they tried their hardest to get Inuyasha's attention, but he'd always push them away; but here he was with a girl that never wanted to be bothered with guys. Kikyo saw the new couple and turned red with anger. 'Inuyasha is mine' she thought angrily.

Inuyasha and Kagome made their way to their classes, ignoring the stares they were getting. While they were in class, he admired Kagome's intelligence; he felt that was one of her best qualities. 'Kami, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!' the hanyou thought happily as he watched Kagome answer the teacher's questions correctly. She was perfect in his eyes; everything that he could ask for in a girl he found in Kagome.

Lunchtime came and Ayame, Sango, Rin, Kagome, Inuyasha, Miroku, and Kouga were sitting together at a table, laughing at jokes Kouga were making. Ayame, Sango, and Rin were so happy for Kagome and never seen her happier than she was around Inuyasha. Kikyo watched Inuyasha and Kagome from her table jealously. She felt bitter toward Kagome for "stealing" Inuyasha from her. She still couldn't believe Inuyasha would rather be with someone like Kagome instead of her.

After school, the seven friends were hanging out in the school yard; none of them felt like going home just yet. They sat there enjoying each other's company, laughing and joking. Suddenly, Kagome's phone began ringing. It was Souta.

"Hey Souta, what's up?" said Kagome.

"Hey Sis," said Souta. "Mom isn't coming to my soccer practice today, so can you come instead?" he asked hopefully.

"Sure Souta. I'll be there in about 20 minutes," said Kagome enthusiastically.

"Thanks Sis! And don't forget to bring Inuyasha with you," said Souta happily.

"Alright I won't."

"Okay, see you later Sis."

"Bye Souta."

Kagome hung up her phone and returned to the conversation she and her friends were having. Everyone was getting ready to go, and Kagome grabbed Inuyasha's hand and began dragging him out of the school yard.

"See you later guys!" yelled Kagome to her friends.

She continued dragging Inuyasha down the street. The hanyou looked at her with a very confused expression. "Hey! Where are we going Kagome?" he asked as Kagome continued to drag him.

"We're going to my brother's soccer practice," she said happily.

Kagome continued dragging him until they reached the park. She quickly spotted Souta, and sat on the bleachers next to the soccer field with Inuyasha. They sat there talking and watching Souta practice.

"He's good," said Inuyasha as Souta made yet another goal.

"Soccer's his favorite sport. He spends most of his free time practicing," said Kagome.

An hour later, Souta's practice was over. He said his goodbyes to his teammates, then spotted Kagome sitting on the bleachers. He saw someone with puppy ears with her and he got excited. Souta quickly ran to the bleachers, happy to see his sister and her new boyfriend.

"Hey Sis!" he said happily.

"Hey Souta," said Kagome as she hugged him. "This is Inuyasha. Inuyasha, my little brother Souta."

"What's up?" said Inuyasha with a smirk.

"Hello! I'm happy to finally meet you! Kagome talks about you all the time," said Souta excitedly.

Inuyasha grinned his usual grin as he looked at Kagome. He was glad that he was always on her mind because she was always on his mind. The three of them sat in the bleachers talking as Inuyasha and Souta were getting to know each other. They were getting along great, and Inuyasha thought her little brother was kind of cool and Souta was enjoying talking to the hanyou. He even began calling Inuyasha "nii-san", which made Inuyasha grin a little. The sun was beginning to set, so the three of them began walking home.

"You're so cool nii-san!" exclaimed Souta happily.

"You're not bad yourself," said Inuyasha with a smirk.

"I just want you to do one thing for me," began Souta. "Make sure you take good care of Kagome and treat her right. She's such a great person and she deserves that much."

Kagome blushed at what Souta said. She was so glad to have a brother like him who cared so much about her. Inuyasha looked at Souta and smirked. He admired the fact that Souta was protective of his older sister and wanted the best for her.

"Don't worry Souta," said Inuyasha. "I'd never do anything to hurt Kagome. I will always protect her, no matter what," he said with a grin.

Souta nodded in approval at what Inuyasha just told him. He trusted Inuyasha and was glad Kagome found someone like him. Kagome blushed a brighter red at what Inuyasha said; well, the conversation in general made her blush. She was glad that the two people she cared for so much felt the same way about her.

They made it to Higurashi Shrine, and saw Mrs. Higurashi standing midway up the countless stairs. Kagome's blushing yet happy face turned into an angry and irritated one. Mrs. Higurashi saw Kagome and Inuyasha's hands intertwined, and her face twisted in anger at the sight of it.

"Get away from my daughter you filthy hanyou!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi.

Kagome looked at her angrily. She had the urge to run up the steps and punch her mother, but suppressed it. Inuyasha quickly became angry after hearing that, and his youkai began grumbling angrily. He let out a growl and Kagome turned to him.

"Don't listen to her," said Kagome lovingly. "I want to be close to you always. I love you."

Inuyasha's youkai calmed down after hearing Kagome confess her feelings to him. They looked lovingly into each other's eyes and hugged. The sight of it made Mrs. Higurashi more furious than she was before.

"Kagome, I said stay away from him!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi with rage.

"And I told you I won't!" yelled Kagome matching her mother's fury. "I love him!"

Mrs. Higurashi's jaw visibly dropped; she couldn't believe her ears. Her daughter was in love with this, this… thing? So many thoughts were racing through her head. She thought her daughter must've been hypnotized or something.

"And I love her!" exclaimed Inuyasha. He was going to protect Kagome just like he promised, even if it was her mother trying to hurt her. No one was going to hurt his Kagome.

Mrs. Higurashi's fury increased even more. "Lies! Kagome you don't love this…thing," she yelled, not believing what she heard from the couple.

Souta was watching the whole thing, hoping that the bickering would end soon. He knew Inuyasha and Kagome were in love, it was apparent to anyone who saw them. He saw how happy they made each other and it made him happy knowing his sister found the perfect person for her, even though he was a hanyou.

Kagome was becoming angrier and angrier with her mother. Inuyasha suddenly sensed a strange power emanating from Kagome. The power was familiar to him, and he then realized that it was the power of a miko. Kagome was trying hard to suppress her powers, but her mother was making her lose control quickly. She kept her miko powers a secret because she knew once her mother found out about them, Kagome wouldn't be able to leave the shrine once she graduated high school.

Inuyasha then became worried because he knew what happened when a miko's power went out of control. He quickly embraced Kagome to try to calm her down, and it worked. At his touch, she became more relaxed. She turned her hazel orbs to face amber ones, and she then kissed him passionately. Mrs. Higurashi's anger hit its peak and she threw purification sutras at Inuyasha. Without hesitation, Kagome quickly erected a barrier around herself and Inuyasha, which surprised her mother. She didn't think Kagome was able to do such a thing. She knew she couldn't win, so she said something Souta didn't want to hear.

"Pack your things and leave this place immediately!" yelled Mrs. Higurashi at the top of her voice.

Souta's face changed from scared to shocked. "Mom, that's not fair! You're overreacting!" he yelled as tears began to form in his chocolate orbs.

"It's okay Souta," said Kagome as calmly as she could. "I wanted to leave anyway."

With that said, Kagome went into the house and began packing her things. Souta was pleading with his mother to let Kagome stay; he didn't want to be there without her. Kagome began carrying bags and boxes that contained her belongings outside.

"Please don't go Kagome!" begged Souta. "I don't want you to go!"

Tears began to fall freely from his eyes as Kagome continued to carry her belongings out of the house. Kagome didn't want to leave Souta, but she was tired of her mom's bullshit. Tears of her own began to fall from her eyes at the sight of her sad brother.

"I'm sorry Souta," said Kagome. "I can't take it here any longer."

Souta understood, but he still didn't want her to leave. He reluctantly began helping his sister carry her things to the bottom of Higurashi Shrine still shedding tears. Inuyasha could smell the scent of tears coming from both Kagome and Souta, and he felt so bad for them. He hated seeing Kagome sad. He took out his cell phone and called his house. Izayoi picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey Mother. It's me."

"Hi sweetheart. What's wrong?"

"Kagome needs somewhere to stay."

"What happened?"

"It's a long story, but I'll explain later. Is it okay if she stays with us?"

"Of course honey. I'll come with the truck to pick you guys and her things up."

"Thanks mom."

"No problem sweetie. See you in 5 minutes."

They hung up with each other just as Kagome and Souta carried the last of her things to the bottom of the shrine. He saw the depressed look on their faces, and it made him feel depressed. He knew how close the siblings were and how much they were hurting right now.

"Hey," said Inuyasha. "My mom is on her way. She said you can stay with us."

"Thanks," said Kagome.

The three of them were sitting at the bottom of the steps of Higurashi Shrine, quietly waiting for Izayoi to show up. She finally pulled up in a large pickup truck, and the four of them began loading Kagome's things onto the truck. Once they were done, Souta and Kagome hugged one last time before she left.

"You have my number, so call me okay?" said Kagome as tears fell from her eyes.

Souta nodded solemnly as tears fell from his face as well. Kagome got into the truck with Izayoi and Inuyasha, and they left. Souta watched the truck until he couldn't see it anymore, then begrudgingly made his way up the steps of the shrine. He walked in the house and went to his room without saying a word to his mother. He went to his room, locked the door, and began sobbing quietly into his pillow. He was really going to miss Kagome.

Izayoi finally reached Takahashi mansion; InuTaisho was outside waiting for them. The four of them began unloading the truck and put Kagome's belongings into one of the many guest rooms the mansion had. Once all of Kagome's things were put into her new room, she asked to be alone for a while and began crying into her pillow, thinking of her younger brother.
