After supper, Ron helped get Melody ready for bed. He read her a bedtime story and tucked her in. He and Hermione stood on the porch of the Burrow. Hermione grabbed Ron's hand and squeezed it. "Thank you for spending time with her. She is really enjoying getting to know you and your family. I know we have kinda messed things up for you. An unexpected child from your days is Hogwarts is never something she or you expected. Give her time, you can't expect her to get over this in a day or two. It will take time."

Ron sighed. " Honestly Mione, I don't think she will get over it. She always told me children were completely out if the question and I was okay with that. But now, seeing my daughter and getting to know her, I cant imagine her not being a big part of my life. And I can't say that given the oppertunity, that I wouldnt want to give her a brother or sister in a few years." Ron paused. He realized he should be having this conversation with his soon to be wife. " I love Mel, and I will see you guys tomorrow. I have to go home to talk to Lav." He let go of her hand and hugged her. Hermione went to put her arms around him to return the hug, but with a "pop" Ron was gone and she was hugging the air where he had been.

" You have got to get a grip on herself" Hermione said to herself. She was starting to have feelings for Ron and she knew that wasnt a good idea. It wasn't good for her, or Melody. Hermione shook the thoughts away. She didn't want to give her daughter any false hope of her mom and dad being together. Hermione and Melody gotten along just fine for the past 3 years.

Ron apparted to the flat that He and Lavender had made into their home. Lavender of course had decorated it. A modern sofa with a rug and a coffee table in front of it. An end table and a lamp sat on both sides of the couch. Ron never understood the idea of a rug, when the flat had such nice hard wood floors. Ron turned the lights on, and looked around the living room.

It was quiet at their home, too quiet for Lavender to be home. Everything looked the same as it had when he left it. Ron thought as he looked around. Lavender was tidy, there was never anything out of place. Nothing was allowed to be left on the coffee table. "It looks cluttered" she would say if he left his copy of the Daily Profit out. "Everything has a place" But as he looked at the coffee table, he saw a piece of paper and something shiney laying there. He sat down on their couch and picked it up.

Ron,Our life together has always been simple. It has been just you and me. It was always supposed to be just you and me. A child was never the plan and I am not sure I can get past this. If what you want is a child, well I am so happy your sister found her for you. I want you to be happy. Im sorry that your happiness will not include me. I wish you the best. I have sent owls to everyone canceling our wedding. I didnt blame you, I put the blame fully on myself. I am taking time to think about things fully. Believe me when I say that this is not easy for me. I love you with my whole heart. I will contact you when I am ready. Until then , Goodbye

Ron picked up the ring that was with the letter. He twirled it his fingers. He was surprised that she had left it behind, it had cost him a small fortune.

Ron read and reread the letter. Lavender was leaving him because of Melody. His heart ached. He loved Lavender, she had been his family for the last 3 years. His beat friend besides Harry of course. He told her everything, shared every thing with her, the good and bad. And now, she had left him. He understood why, but it still hurt. Ron had gained so much in the past few days. He had one of his very best friends back. He had Hermione. He also had received a gift he never thought he would get. He was a father to a beautiful smart little girl. But now he had lost the woman he thought he would grow old with.

Ron was feeling joy and pain of losing and gaining so much. He got up and walked through their, no his flat. He looked around and then started to notice. she had taken her stuff. Lavender's books were no longer on their shelf. He walked into their room, opened her drawer. Empty. Ron walked over to the closet. Her cloaks were gone, everything on her side was gone.

Ron was emotionally exhausted. He layed down on the bed and fell asleep.

A white picket fence around a house with a huge yard. An older Melody was pushing a younger red head boy on the swing. Ron stood in the doorway watching him. Arms wrapped around him and he could feel the swollen belly of his wife touch his back. Her chin rested on his shoulder.

" Look at them play Ron. Isn't wonderful?" Ron turned and smiled at his wife. "Yes Dear, and soon we will have our tie breaker. He's going to be our little quidditch player." Hermione giggled at her husband and swatted him playfully. " Maybe she will be, but just like Melody and her brother, we will let them follow their dreams."

Ron and Hermione sat on the porch watching Melody toss a ball to the little boy. He didn't catch it, buy ran to it and picked it up. He didn't throw it back, instead ran away from his sister, laughing as he ran. Melody chased after him. " Come back, Bring the ball back and play with me!" she playfully chased him around the yard.

Ron woke up. There were tears on his face, that was the life he should have had. If Hermione hadnt left, that could have been their life. Now, he didn't have Hermione, and he didnt have Lavender. He has Melody. Ron wondered if he really had Melody. What is going to happen? Hermione and Melody will go back to New York and he will see her every few months or so for a weekend? That isn't the life he wanted. How is that fair to anyone?
