"Rebekah!" Elijah called from the room that they had brought Klaus to. He watched his brother grow paler.

"I'm a hybrid, Elijah. I will be just fine." As if he needed to prove his point, he pulled himself up to sit on the edge of the bed. He rolled up the dark denim to reveal his knees were healed. "See! No remnant of a wound left."

"What is it Elijah? Someone needs to be with Caroline." Rebekah walked into the room with her arms hanging loosely at her sides.

"Elijah thinks I am getting worse sister." Klaus smiled comically. He began to stand up from the bed to prove that he was fine. He took a step and threw his arms out in the air in triumph. "See, I am fine."

"Walk towards me brother." Elijah said calmly. His arms were crossed and his gaze made it clear that he had a point to prove as well.

"Very well brother." Klaus walked toward him. He made it not even three steps before his legs gave out underneath him. Elijah caught him before he hit the floor and led him back to the bed.

"His temperature is rising, Rebekah. He has it too." Elijah stood up above his brother – tall and strong still.

"Well we are going to have more pressing matters soon Elijah." Rebekah stared at Klaus as she thought of everything that Matt had told her.

"Can it really be any worse than this?" Elijah's eyes held a level of humor to cover up the fear and anxiety that was trying to press through his saneness.

"Matt Donovan called me." She pulled her gaze back up to Elijah and crossed her arms.

"What could that traitorous rat possibly want?" Klaus grudgingly asked. His face had contorted into being pouty as he eyed up his sister.

"He has reason to believe that we might have company soon." Rebekah gave Klaus a sidelong glance before focusing on Elijah once again.

"And you believe him because of those cute, bright blue, puppy eyes. Am I right?" Klaus laughed at his comment.

Rebekah couldn't stop the slight irritation from creeping into her face. Her nostril flared out as she tried to remain calm from her brother's instigation. "Tyler Lockwood is making a move against us."

Klaus sat up straight in the bed. His face as serious as it could possibly be. He wasn't in his top shape right now thanks to that kid, but if Tyler was bringing a mob against them to get Caroline there was no telling how much power they'd need even as originals. He could guarantee that he didn't have as much strength as he'd need, but he'd do his best to fight. "Is that what Donovan told you?"

"If you're done being childish about him, then yes, that is what Matt Donovan told me." Rebekah's irritation was very obvious, but Klaus could tell she was trying to calm herself down.

"No need for the hostility sister. I was only teasing you." He watched her carefully to see if she'd boil up again or simmer down.

"I have had that teasing all of my life from you, Nik. I do not have time for it any more if you expect me to find a way to save your life." Her frustration was simmering down into emotion, but she did well to keep it all in check.

"What did Mattie boy tell you?" Klaus kept his expression serious and remained respectful of her insight. He didn't want to pull away her attention from finding a cure.

"He told me that Tyler Lockwood had left about a half an hour ago by now to gather up some help to stop the virus from spreading. He's coming here Nik." Rebekah's blue eyes sparkled with worry. "We can hold them off, but it's only a matter of time before we are all infected and won't be as strong."

"But we won't be the only supernatural beings to not be up to par. If Tyler's gathering more than it's only a matter of time before it spreads to all of them." Elijah added to the conversation.

"Perhaps." Rebekah bit her lip before continuing. "It'll depend on if he brings Vampires or Werewolves, Elijah. I don't know how this affects Werewolves. It clearly affects Hybrids." She looked down at her brother. She could tell that he was fighting the chills that were a result from the rising fever.

"What happens if it doesn't affect Werewolves?" Klaus had to inquire. He might still be able to hold onto one of his strengths. There was hope in that.

"If it only affects the vampire side and not the werewolf side, then you'll switch back to breaking all of your bones every full moon, but that's only assuming that you'll be able to survive going back to being human. Your body is trying to rid itself of any supernatural genetics possible and you'll be mortal for a time. I don't know if the curse holds true about you needed to kill someone before turning back into a werewolf. Let's hope it doesn't come to us finding out." Rebekah's eyes pierced into Klaus. He knew that she assumed that he'd kill someone if he had to, if only to retrigger the gene. He wasn't going to play a guessing game now. She was probably right, but there was a chance that he wouldn't. He'd been powerful for a long time. Perhaps it was time for that reign of terror to stop.

They all froze in place as the sound of the front door opened and slammed shut. The sound of someone dropping something and hurrying up the stairs was loud and not meant to be quiet.

"Are you expecting anyone?" Rebekah eyed Klaus up warily.

"Not that I'm aware of. You, sister?" He questioned her with same wariness. She needed a little taste of her own medicine.

Matt stood in the doorway. His was nearly out of breath as he held his rifle next to his side.

"Well if it isn't the little treacherous rat himself." Klaus watched the young man carefully.

"Hey, you didn't leave me much of a choice Klaus. You were going to kill my best friend. What was I supposed to do?" He was slowly catching his breath as the words fumbled out of his mouth.

"By the sound of it, your best friend isn't exactly being reasonable at this moment now is he?" Klaus commented as he rubbed his sore leg. He was partly trying to make Matt sorry for the pain he caused. He knew that the boy would feel guilty eventually.

"I didn't try to do anything to kill you Klaus. It was merely to slow you down to prevent you from hurting him." Matt ignored the shot in his direction as he reminded the hybrid of the facts.

"Don't sweat it Donovan. I'm not going to make you pay for this. Even if I'm not recovering nearly as fast as you assumed." Klaus locked his eyes on the slightly nervous look in Matt's. "However, I do want to know why you came in such a big rush. With a bag by the sound of it as well."

Matt swallowed hard. "I came through town on the way over here. Tyler's already got a group together. I don't know how long before he gets over here. I figured you guys could use an extra hand in protecting Caroline."

"And you think your rifle is a good enough match for supernatural beings?" Klaus questioned him with undivided attention.

"I figured it'd at least slow them down enough to give you guys an advantage. I just request that Tyler remains alive. Lock him up if you have to, but please keep him alive." Matt's loyalty to his not so loyal friend was touching, but Klaus wasn't sure that it was enough of a reason to keep the rogue hybrid alive.

"Can you please keep him alive." A very weak and barely coherent Caroline leaned against the doorframe. Matt grabbed her around the waist as soon as he saw her. She barely could keep her head up. How she made it to the room was a mystery.

"Care?" Matt questioned her to see if she was still conscious. She had went limp on his arm the second he grabbed her.

Rebekah quickly scurried over to the weak vampire and checked her temperature and pulse.

"Bring her here sister." The worry cracked Klaus's voice. Having Caroline next to him was all he could do to keep his sanity. Seeing her so weak and so vulnerable was more than he could bare. He'd protect her the best that he could; even if it meant laying down his life for her.

"We may have a problem." Elijah tuned in as he pulled a lace curtain away from the window and peered out. Tyler and at least a dozen other supernatural creatures inched their way through the woods and toward the mansion. It was hard to count them through the thick woods, but Elijah could make out enough to know there were a lot of them. They were either in for a mighty good negotiation or a very outmatched fight.
