Andare Via Fidanzato Chapter 12: Being Winx

After eating pizza the girls headed back to the school. Angie felt an annoyance due to the fact she still hadn't figured out anything about anything. There still seemed to be this assumption that she would simply accept things as they were and to go with the flow of things. This though was not something she could so easily accept though.

She sat on Musa's old bed, her arms folded across her chest wondering what she would do next. The girls weren't being that helpful either and were treating it as if things were normal. No, they were for the most part wanting to act like she was in fact Musa, something that bothered her greatly. She finally pulled her legs up to her chest, not sure what questions to ask.

It was then that Flora came into the room. "Can I show you something?"

"Sure... why not? It isn't as if I really have anything to do here. I mean... normally I would at least be taking my lessons."

"We'll rectify that in the morning. It's important that you keep those lessons up, particularly since it has to do with your magical core."

"Magical core?" Angie shook her head. "Honestly... I haven't a clue what any of this means other then the fact I have powers."

"I'll show you."

Angie followed the other girl over to her room. Looking around she saw that the room was filled with plants. Taking a deep breath she looked around. "If Musa's abilities had to do with sound... which is in turn related to magic... can I guess that your powers have something to do with flowers?"

"Plants to be exact."

The young woman turned and saw suddenly the giant flytrap type flower. "Hey... aren't those things dangerous... I mean, the bigger they get."

"This one is a sweetie." Flora reached out and ticked the chin of the plant and to Angie's surprise the plant ended up reacting.

"Can I try? I mean, can I pet him or her too?"

"Sure. Plants aren't really hims or shes for the most part... they're both. This one is new, so I'm still trying to figure out if it has a more masculine or feminine personality. Once I figure it out I'll start calling it she or he."

Angie reached up and tickled the plant. "That is honestly so cool. Do you use your powers to actually grow all these things?"

"Yes."

"It's pretty cool that your powers can be used for something." Angie paused then. "However... what can my powers be used for?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean... what can my powers be used for outside of fighting?"

"Musa was really gifted in the musical arts and dance."

"But it's not why I'm gifted like I am. Actually... I'm not that amazing. From the sounds of it Musa... she was an amazing person."

"Yes. She was an amazing person. I'm quite sure you're amazing in your own way. You just need to find it and use it in a way that makes you happy and full filled."

"What do the others do?"

"Well..." Flora frowned. "Bloom and Stella are princesses of their realms. Bloom is actually the keeper of a great power as well, the Dragon Flame."

"So she's kind of like a shrine maiden?"

"Yes. You could say that of Stella as well as her powers are light based. Techna's really good with technology and fixing things. But... as you've noticed... her personality has a few issues. She's a nice girl and she is learning. It doesn't help her though that her planet is so technologically advanced that she doesn't know what to do when the technology is there."

Angie sat on Flora's bed. "So... can I ask what you all like doing? I mean, what do all of you have in common. You all seem like good friends despite the fact none of your personalities mesh."

"Bloom." The other girl stopped watering her plants. "The best way to put it is, none of us have anything in common. We wouldn't have known each other if we hadn't been all assigned to the same rooms last year. Also... Bloom came and pulled things together by just showing up and her needing us. People are constantly after her power."

"So that's what this is all about? Protecting Bloom?"

"No. I think there is more to why we all were pulled together, not to mention why you inherited Musa's powers despite the fact it doesn't seem like you have fairie blood in you."

"Doesn't seem?"

"Well... you don't know who your father is, right?"

"But there are no male faeries?"

"No. Males with magical abilities become wizards. They still can have daughters that have faerie abilities if they marry a non-faerie."

"I don't see how my mother wouldn't have noticed such a thing. I mean, that my father... and my little brother's father for that matter... is... was... a wizard. No... my mother would have known something."

"Isn't it a bit odd that you and your brother share a father but that you have no memories of him."

"No. I have a few memories of him. I mean, I'm not likely to recognize him, but I remember him leaving and then coming back long enough for my mother to have my brother. I'm kind of miffed at him for that you know. He could have been in our lives, making things much different then they are. I think it is my father's relatives that my little brother tends to stay with when he doesn't live with us."

"Your family seems a bit odd."

"By family is actually normal. A lot of kids I know don't have both parents. I'm lucky to have a scholarship to the school I'm going to as well as a scholarship to my dance studio. In the long run though I am going to have to get a job and not think about becoming an actress or singer because I don't have the opportunities that some of the other girls have."

"You have them now."

"Do I?" Angie took a deep breath. "It doesn't seem so."

"Well... tomorrow we'll introduce you to all of the teachers. That may change your mind. Or it might not. I'm not going to push you to make a decision. But... if you need help... particularly the kind when you need a friend to save you... I'll be there."
