"Lady Artemis!" The son of Kronos yelled frantically as he ran up to the hunter's camp. At the mere sound of a male the girls got into a defensive position. Arrows notched, bows pointed, daggers drawn, muscles tensed, and eyes narrowed. Perseus was rather pleased with their sheer discipline as the girls waited for their leader's command to unleash hell upon him. Perseus felt a sudden pang of longing for the days of commanding an army as Artemis barked orders and the girls lowered their weapons. She took the lead and with pride walked in front of her hunters. An air of confidence, strength, and ferocity surrounded the goddess, as she looked at the boy in slight annoyance and curiosity.
Her silver eyes studied him as he screeched to a stop and looked at her imploringly. Her nose wrinkled with disgust, her shoulders drawn back, and her head cocked with superiority as she looked at him. Perseus, playing the part of a stupid boy, looked around frantically and pretended to be out of breath as he bent down and inhaled dramatically.
"What is it boy? How did you find this place?" She questioned unsympathetically as she stared down at his weary form. He straightened and his breathing calmed slightly while he bit his lip and allowed his hands to tremble slightly as he scratched his head.
A hunter snickered,"Oh look! The little boy is afraid." She taunted and suddenly his entire composure changed. He straightened even more and his expression turned back to his usual emotionless one.
His lips pulled back into a sneer as he glared at her,"I'd watch your tongue when speaking to me, girl. I haven't the time for your immaturity and sexist comments." The girl seemed stunned but before she could say anything Perseus spoke again but this time to Artemis,"I need your assistance," his voice softened and a worried expression overtook his features once again,"someone back there," he gestured out into the dense woods with his hands,"was attacked and I need you to help me fend off the monsters. Please!" He begged as he took a step closer,"She's hurt really badly!" He exclaimed and Artemis seemed to perk at the mention of the injured person being a girl.
She frowned,"I cannot risk the safety of my hunters for a mere girl-"
Perseus interjected quickly,"Then you can just come with me!" He pleaded as his green eyes welled slightly,"We have to save her. Please Milady!" He got down on his knees and stared up at her,"This girl is like ones you have already saved! She wanted sisterhood...she's my friend and we came searching for you before we were jumped by monsters. I can't fight them by myself but I know with you we can save her. You're the best goddess for the job." He flattered shamelessly and she looked at him for a moment.
Was such a deceitful gender trustworthy? But as she thought of his explanation it all made perfect sense. This was Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon; maybe he had brought Thalia to join the hunt. The thought thrilled her, having her powerful half sister by her side would do the hunt some good, she eyed Perseus curiously before slowly nodding.
"Fine...I shall come with you." She turned to her hunt,"Stay here. Keep an eye out for any…" She paused before giving them a nod,"trouble." Her girls nodded back and with that she turned to Perseus. She had found a Titan base and was on the brink of discovering why the Titans were so obsessed with finding the Golden Fleece.
He gave her a nod,"Thank you." That was all he said before he dashed off in the direction he came. Surprised by his burst of speed she ran after him with knives drawn. She easily caught up to the boy though she was rather impressed by his amount of stamina. She heard several roars as the two continued running in the direction of the monsters and with gritted teeth she braced herself. She had been itching for a good fight; it's been too long, with a grin at the approaching monsters she dove right in. She didn't look around at the odds or care how many there were. She was a powerful, fearless goddess and she would exhibit just that.
Her several months of restraint were unleashed upon the horde of monsters that polluted the forest clearing. Her adrenaline was pumping as she easily slit the throat of a hellhound and watched in sheer satisfaction as it exploded into golden dust. She fought ferociously; her endorphins rushing as she easily dodged a monster's outstretched claws. She used her free hand and grabbed it's arm and with a scream of brutality she ripped it's arm completely off before impaling it in the chest.
Perseus watched her in fascination as he made his way closer to her. He had never seen the moon goddess in action and she was by far one of the deadliest goddess he's ever seen. Her agility and speed far surpassed Athena as did her strength. She nimbly dodged an empousa attack and Perseus began to fight alongside her while easily decapitating the offending monster. Artemis looked at him and gave him a nod of approval before going back to the fight.
"Where's the girl!" She yelled as she kicked a hellhound in the nose before flipping over it's head and landing on it's back. Perseus rammed his spear through the hound's snout and into the ground making it whimper as it struggled to free itself. With a leap Perseus was beside Artemis while she shot her arrows quickly at the swarming monsters.
Perseus took her knife out of its sheathe and gripped it tightly,"I don't see her!" He rasped before he tackled the goddess. Unsuspecting of this move she yelped as they slammed into the ground. Perseus slyly slid the knife away from him and under a nearby bush, there, and he rolled to his feet. He was unarmed as he examined the monsters surging towards him.
"What the Hades-"
"Hurry! Get up!" Perseus had her on her feet in an instant and grabbed her arm as the monsters pursued,"There's too many and she's gone!" He yelled as he continued to drag her away from the monsters.
A loud yell was heard,"Help me! Somebody please!" Artemis's perked and wrenched herself from Perseus.
"No!" She yelled as she drew her bow and rushed forward. Perseus was on her heels as he batted away monsters as if they were flies. They weren't supposed to actually hurt him; everything was going according to plan.
And there lay Silena, blood protruded from her open leg wounds, her blonde hair matted, her kaleidoscope eyes pierced with fear and filled with tears. Sweat clung to her forehead as she feebly swung away at the monsters crowding her with her knife.
Artemis felt a surge of compassion overcome her,"It's okay I'm here!" She fired off two quick shots and that's when Perseus sprang into action.
With a sickening twist of his gut time completely froze. He barely had the power to do this and he shakily snatched the bow from her and tossed it into the crowd of monsters. He moved out of the way, his head pounding immensely and blood flowing from his nose as he allowed time to go back to normal. He sunk to his knees and dry heaved heavily as he moaned in utter pain. His head was still pounding and it felt like at any second his skull was going to crack open.
Artemis looked at her hands in shock. Where did her bow go! She looked back up at the girl to see Athena standing there smirking. The monsters had all vanished into the forest and her first thought was of her hunters. Oh no.
"Hello Artemis." She said coldly and before she could react godly energy slammed into her. Artemis flew backwards and she could hear Perseus yell for her as she slammed into the tree. Her head was spinning as she looked back at the boy, he had managed to crawl towards the girl and was attempting the drag her away, Athena noticed him and she smirked before giving him a swift head stomp. He howled in pain and collapsed on top of the girl's now sobbing form.
Artemis felt ire ignite within her as she unsheathed her last dagger,"Traitor!" She snarled as she popped spare ambrosia into her mouth. She could feel any broken bones mending together and her charred flesh became tan again. Her head no longer felt pain and her vision cleared immensely.
Athena smiled cruelly,"Took you a while to catch on. I thought you of all people would discover the truth about me first." She shrugged carelessly as she leaned against her unsheathed spear,"You know you could join if you want, Kronos is far more...likely to win. And if you swore your allegiance we will spare you and your hunters, you guys would actually thrive-"
"In a society overrun with monsters? I don't think so!" Artemis snarled as she charged at her sister. She fueled her rage at the reminder of Perseus and the girl, he only wanted to save her, and there he and the girl lay. She had to save them. Yes Perseus was a boy, but his fighting was impressive, and he most care a lot for the girl if he risked himself like that. All of a sudden she felt was hit with several arrows. She screamed in agony as she crumpled, her vision blurred as she felt a heavy net fall on top of her, the net was made of some type of metal because she whimpered as it struck her face.
No. She couldn't go down like this. She couldn't be captured like some weak animal. She struggled and tried to conjure power, any power, before she let out a loud yell. Athena froze and before she knew it a stag had struck her with it's horns. She flew backwards and slammed into the ground. A stampede of stags was running towards Athena and Silena's eyes widened.
"Perseus." Silena whispered as she shook him. She was infuriated that Athena had actually head stomped the son of Poseidon. Blood was seeping out of a crack in his head and he let out a groan. She cradled the boy in her lap and felt panic erupt within her. His head was covered in a mixture of sweat and blood, his nose was caked in blood as well, he frowned in his unconscious state and muttered something as his hands balled into fists.
Athena let out an outraged shout as she swung her spear angrily at the stags. But there were too many. She was once again knocked down and trampled by the heavy beasts and Silena struggled to apply her nectar to Perseus to try to awake him. The crack on his head became a scar as it sewed itself together and his eyes snapped open.
"What?" He asked as groggily sat up. He looked over to see Athena being attacked by several stags. He stood to his feet and looked over at Artemis, she lay in chains, completely unconscious; he smirked at Athena's screams of pain and took his sweet time striding over to her.
"I'm sorry. Do you need help?" He asked in mock concern and a scream of rage erupted from the wisdom goddess. He chucked darkly but before he could help the goddess took to her divine form. He quickly shut his eyes and turned away, the stags bleated in pain as they disintegrated right in front of Athena, Perseus went to Silena's aid. The blonde's eyes were closed as she stumbled to her feet.
Once the brightness died down Athena's raging form stood amongst the now dead herd of stags. Her face was covered in golden blood along with her once white robes. Her blonde hair resembled a bird's nest and one of her eyes was black. Perseus walked over to Silena casually while looking down at the dead stags with slight amusement.
"Are you okay?" Silena murmured as she reached out to him and touched his arm. He stiffened at the touch and bit back a growl, but instead he relaxed and smiled at her, oh how difficult it was to play the part of a somewhat hormonal teenager.
"Don't worry about me. How are your legs?" He asked as he bent down to examine them. They had had to cut large gashes in her thighs to make her injured state more believable. And luckily she was a good actress. Her thighs had pale scars on them showing where they had to cut her open. He looked up at her to see her face. She was extremely pale, her kaleidoscope eyes looked down at him with worry, her hands were trembling, and sweat protruded from her forehead.
He stood up and looked at her questioningly and she bit her lip,"My legs are fine...but Perseus...what's going to happen to us when everyone finds out-"
He cut her off by smiling at her affectionately and placing a hand on her shoulder,"They won't find out for a long time. Artemis thinks we're a bunch of helpless demigods and she'll continue thinking so. You're not in this alone." He said seriously and her eyes widened slightly before she nodded.
"You're right." She lowered her head much to his frustration. He couldn't allow for there to be a weak link.
"I know." He tilted her chin up with his knuckle and made her look at him,"You did good today." He said gently even though he wanted to gag. Yes Silena did a good job but gods; did he always have to baby her? He tried to find some compassion but found none. She chose her side and there was no getting out of it. Why couldn't she be tough? Like Thalia?
She smiled faintly and her troubles seemed to melt away as she stared up at him adoringly,"Thanks...you did too." She whispered and Perseus nodded slightly before turning away from her. Athena had healed herself for the most part though she still had a black eye, Perseus really liked Artemis for that one, and her hair was still a total mess. She marched over to Artemis and transported the goddess away.
"If you two love birds are done get over here!" She snapped angrily,"I have to get you back to camp." She hissed and Perseus walked over to the goddess with Silena.
"I was surprised by the stags." Perseus shrugged as he looked back at the animal corpses,"It was a nice...card trick." He mused and Athena snorted.
"Shut up Perseus. You know what you have to do now correct?" She asked scathingly as her grey eyes bored holes into his green ones.
He met her dark gaze with his own,"Yes Ma'am, sabotage the quest." He bit out; he could never break authority, even if he wanted to. He couldn't stand Athena and vice versa. The two were too similar and often butted heads. But she was his superior now and he had to respect her.
She smirked coldly at him,"Yes, and for how you handled the stag situation," She brought her hand back and gave the boy a powerful slap to the cheek. He flew backwards and slammed into a tree. His vision blurred as he stumbled to his feet. Silena was at his side in an instant and tried to help him but he angrily shook her off. His cheek felt like it was on fire and his back hurt from hitting the tree.
He spit the blood out of his mouth and glared at the smirking goddess,"Bold move, hitting the son of Kronos, niece." He snarled as he balled his hands into fists. How dare this overrated goddess hit him! For something he couldn't really help with! How the Hades did she expect him to get all those stags off of her!
Athena laughed mockingly,"I didn't mean to harm you uncle, but I believe we both know that I'm too big of an asset for your father to give away." And he knew she was right,"And who's in charge here boy?" She asked as she examined her nails with a smug facial expression.
Perseus wanted to tear her apart. He wanted to speak out against her and yell insults, threaten her, crack jokes about misfortune, beat the crap out of her, he wanted to revel in rebellion and be such a smart aleck that he was slapped again! He wanted to make her angry, to make her lose control, to make her go mad with his comments and smug looks. He wanted...to be like Thalia Grace. But he wasn't her. He couldn't act like the girl he somewhat secretly admired. He was a good solider, not a rebellious, fiery teen that could afford to crack jokes and do whatever the heck he wanted.
So he did what he always did. He bowed his head respectively, he lowered his eyes, he bit his tongue, and he got on one knee. He emanated respect no matter how much he wanted to lash out and hurt the goddess just as much as she hurt him.
"I apologize Lady Athena. I won't speak out of turn again." He spoke clearly so she could hear him and slightly lifted his head.
Her smirk broadened as she reached out a tightly gripped his hair. She yanked it backwards and made him look up at her fully. He bit back a yelp as she mercilessly tugged on his hair. He envied the power she held over him. He should have been the one being smug, he should have been the one looking down at inferiors, and he should have been the strong one that told everyone what to do. Not the accursed Athena.
"I know you won't." She laughed coldly and Perseus felt his pride wane as she shoved him to the ground.
-Line Break-
Now, Perseus knew it was so completely stupid for him to feel this way, so utterly stupid that he'd rather gut himself than even feel the way he did. But he really couldn't help it. It angered him, he'd rather his brain be in full control than his emotions, as a young teen he knew his frontal lobe wasn't fully developed which caused him to make rash decisions and feel things more strongly. So unfortunately, emotions pretty much ruled the entire teenage existence, and what was even more unfortunate was that he had to experience this feeling yet again. In the other dimension he was sixteen and most of his crazy emotions had died down rapidly due to his increasing maturity and business. Usually for sixteen year old's emotions were even more haywire but not for Perseus, Kronos cracked down on him hard, mind over matter. But in this thirteen year old form his emotions were just beginning to lose control.
And he didn't mean to feel this way. He hated his emotions. He knew what he was feeling wasn't love, merely infatuation, infatuation that couldn't be brushed away because his stupid brain wasn't strong enough to tell his stupid body that he didn't even like this stupid girl.
He had a friggen crush on Zoe Nightshade. He was utterly and totally head over heels for her. He sure as heck didn't want to be! If he could he'd slit her throat! But thanks to his raging hormones he had the biggest crush on her. Her silky black hair, dark onyx eyes, serious personality, sharp tone, intellectual thinking, precise leadership skills, extremely hot body-DEAR GODS! He shouldn't even LIKE her! But he did. The first thing she did when she met him was yell about how idiotic he was and how he was just a boy and they got into a heated argument that nearly led to a fist fight if Thalia hadn't broken them up.
"Boy." Perseus snapped back to reality at the mention of his new "name" and felt his cheeks heat up involuntarily when Zoe bust into his cabin. Stay cool, he chided himself, he looked at her for a moment before rolling his eyes and leaning back casually against his bedpost.
"Ever heard of knocking, girl?" He asked icily and she rolled her eyes as well.
"I'm not at your cabin to argue with you-"
"Then stop your babbling and tell me why you're here. I haven't all day." He rudely cut in as he sat up straighter and looked down at her with disdain. He tried to remain hard towards her coming to his cabin but inwardly he was glad she was there. He liked her compan-shut the fudge up Perseus.
She crossed her arms over her chest,"I decided to take you on the quest. Only, because you happened to be with my mistress when she was taken." She narrowed her eyes,"A bit strange isn't it? After all...how are you back alive?" Zoe looked at him skeptically as her mouth formed a thin line. She looked slightly adorable.
He snorted,"And you're insinuating that I had something to do with her disappearance?" He shook his head,"Listen well Nightshade, my fatal flaw is loyalty, and be that as it may that I'm not loyal to my father I am very loyal to my friends. The monsters used the girl as bait...they knew you and your little hunters were nearby. We weren't the target, Artemis was, they captured her and left us." He hissed as he towered over her,"I don't take kindly to biased people like you accusing me of betrayal." He snapped and to his surprise she didn't flinch away from him like most did. She was a lot like Thalia in that sense, bold and prideful.
She merely raised a perfect eyebrow,"Biased people like me?"
He laughed dryly,"Man haters, you dolt, what else could I possibly mean? I bet if I had breasts you wouldn't question me." He mocked and she clenched her jaw.
Then she smirked, by the gods her smirk was wonderful,"And who's to say that you have a penis either?" She asked lowly and his eyes widened. She really said that? Anger arose within him at her witty comeback and he gritted his teeth, for the first time at a complete loss for words, he could call her ugly but that'd be a complete lie. Or maybe he could say she looked manly but with those curves he couldn't even voice this. And every comeback he could think of couldn't even compare to what she had said to him. Comebacks weren't his specialty. Making people feel inferior was.
Perseus growled,"Okay you little feminist, I'll join your quest, we'll get Artemis back and then you'll know that I stand with you." He then got extremely close to her and cupped her face with his hands. Just being that close to Zoe made his heart race and his stupid emotions and hormones began to rage once again.
A dark smirk covered his lips,"And next time you question my manhood," He paused for a moment before running a thumb under her nose,"I suggest waxing that mustache of yours." He was proud of his comeback...up until he was kneed in the family jewels. She had kneed him extremely hard, harder than anyone has ever hit him...in that special area. Hades, he's been kicked there before and it didn't compare to how much pain he was in at that very moment. He grunted before letting go of her and cupping his area as his face puckered.
She let out a tinkling laugh,"I guess that answers that question. A real man would have fallen over from a hit like that," She smirked as she walked out of the door and called over her shoulder,"nice to know another girl will be joining us on the quest." She was almost as infuriating as Thalia! He snarled as he slammed the cabin door shut only to here Zoe laugh again. He froze...good gods that laugh...with another frustrated yell he kicked his bedpost angrily. Curse his emotions! Curse Zoe Nightshade! Curse her adorable laugh! And curse her beautiful, stupid face!
As the quest members all made their way to the van Thalia couldn't help but laugh when she saw Perseus. His usual stoic expression was covered by a scowl, his shoulders hunched angrily, and his hands clutched his bag strap so tight his knuckles were white.
"What are you laughing at?" He questioned somewhat heatedly and Thalia smiled brightly at him.
"Someone other than me really pissed you off." She pointed out,"Was it Silena...I know how clingy she can get." Thalia whispered as she looked around. Perseus complained about Silena all the time. Talking about how she never left him alone or how she was far too touchy. During their lessons Thalia would often mock Perseus about Silena though on the inside she was infuriated about the daughter of Aphrodite's sudden attraction to the son of Poseidon. But she had no clue why. It wasn't like the ditzy blonde was coming between the two of them or anything.
Perseus and Thalia, though neither would admit it, were rather good friends...sort of. Sure they never stopped bickering, trying to outdo each other, or physically start fights with one another. But despite all that they were somewhat close. Having meaningful chats, spending a good amount of time together, and debating if the gods and the camp were worth fighting for. Thalia made it her goal to make Perseus laugh as much as she could and Perseus made it his to make sure he didn't fail Thalia with their constant training sessions of power control. Together they were an unstoppable force...fighting enemies wise because usually they were fighting each other.
Perseus immediately lost his scowl and smiled slightly,"Thank gods it's not her." He frowned again,"Zoe just makes me so frustrated!" He huffed and Thalia nodded in understanding.
"Yeah she's a total bit-" Perseus noticed the man hating girl herself approaching them and he blinked rapidly before looking away quickly. Gah! He hoped she died for making him feel so flustered! Stupid infatuation!
"Hi guys!" Another voice drew the two raven haired teen's attention.
The new hunter, a daughter of Hades, approached them excitedly. Bianca? Was that her name? Perseus gave her a slight nod in greeting before turning his attention back to Zoe who was walking towards them with Phoebe. Both glaring daggers at him which he wholeheartedly returned. He wouldn't mind decapitating Phoebe.
"Okay ladies," She shot Perseus a smirk that made him hold his breath,"into the van." Shaking his head he got into the back of the van and to his delight Zoe got in the front. The last thing he needed was to sit next to that waste of life. Thalia sat beside him on his left side and Bianca on his right while Phoebe took the passenger seat.
Thalia grinned at Perseus,"Guess we're van buddies!" She said in mock excitement and he snorted.
"Did you just say van buddies?"
She looked at him smugly,"Yep! And lucky for you I'm not on my pariod!"
Perseus looked at her in complete confusion until he realized she was poking fun at him.
"I'm sorry I didn't know what that was!" He grumbled,"At least I didn't say blood came out of the baby maker!" And then, magically, Perseus laughed with Thalia. She seemed to get him to laugh more than he thought possible and, though he'd never ever admit it, he enjoyed her company. And for a little while those blue eyes of hers distracted him from Zoe's sharp black ones.
And finished! Okay so I know it's been a while! But every freaking weekend I have a freaking volleyball tournament because of freaking club! And I mean, I love volleyball but sheesh it's a lot!
QUICK NOTE: This is still Percy and Thalia, I just made things complicated, gosh I've been infatuated with people like Percy is right now. It sucks, and like I CAN'T HELP IT BECAUSE EMOTIONS HATE ME! LIKE, WHY CAN'T I LIKE NICE GUYS AND NOT JERKY ONES OR GUYS THAT HAVE GIRLFRIENDS! But I can proudly say I never pursue jerky ones because they're jerks! Or guys that have girlfriends cuz no way am I about to be a hoe...yes the gardening tool.
