Woo... got an update... gotta go study for a huge ass exam tomorrow!

Ta! I hope you enjoy this guys and that it wasn't too rushed!

"You do realize this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen you do!"

Allen sighed as he adjusted his shit, his silver eyes turning to glare at the elder growling down at him.

"I don't care," the vampire shot back, "I'm doing it."

"Lavi doesn't have a fucking clue as to what he's doing!"

"I trust him," the younger retorted, "that should be all that matters."

"Right," Kanda muttered sarcastically, "trust, that's all that matters; never mind the skills required, the precision, the-"

"You wanna do it?" Allen interrupted, his eyes narrowing while the muscle in Kanda's jaw twitched. "Look, whether you like it or not, it happening. I'll either die earlier or later."

The cobalt eyes narrowed before he turned away, a soft 'Che sound emanating from his lips as he left the room to descend the stone steps, leaving Allen to sigh deeply.

He knew the stupidity of his actions and the consequences he would most likely endure. Lavi was no surgeon, and of the two Allen felt he would trust Kanda cutting into him over the redhead, at least Kanda had the skills of the samurai.

Silver eyes flickered downward as he mulled over the thoughts in his brain, the fear that he would die not as prevalent in his mind as the idea of losing himself; his consciousness trapped inside a monster that would devour everything and everyone he had come to care for to the point Allen would consider it love.

The vampire had come to care deeply for the other two, the moronic antics of Lavi amusing while his kindness was warming. Kanda, on the other hand, was stubborn and infuriating, constantly pushing Allen and had no qualms about speaking his mind.

He was also loyal and strong and willing to do anything when it came to his goal.

Allen's slim body slumped against the couch he was sitting on, his head pressing against the back of the couch while his mind wandered, the feelings knotting his stomach confusing and unknown to him. Kanda had done nothing but fight and scream at him, at first treating him like the monster he was to become, the actions slowly becoming caring and almost friendly. His hand tightened slightly into a fist as he thought of how the voice seemed to dissipate as to nothing when the elder was near, how warm and comforting the body was when it was around him, soothing his stressful mind to a dreamless sleep for the first time in what felt like forever.

"Kanda," the young vampire mumbled, "please don't let me die…"

Silver instruments and tools lay in the bright light, the table next to the long operating bed that was currently unoccupied, it's occupant still nervously undressing in the upstairs bathroom, the surgeon in attendance equally as paranoid for the success of the procedure . Long fingers reached to touch the cool metal, his fingertips running over the white sheet Allen would be laying under, his cobalt eyes impassive and unreadable, a bleakness in his orbs unlike anything he had ever felt.

Footsteps descended the stairs, the redhead dressed in an odd smock over his lab coat, blue gloves covering his hand, though not impeding his movements. Surprised, Lavi stilled at the sight of Kanda, his hands still in the midst of adjusting his garments.

"Y… Yuu…"

"If you think I'm going to sit by and let you dig around in the Moyashi, you're dumber than I already thought," Kanda told him, his head turning to face the other, "I'm sticking around."

"I thought you might be," Lavi smirked, "there's a smock and another pair of gloves upstairs; wash up, grab a mask, and tie up your hair in a bun."

The redhead felt a new wave of fear wash over him at the glare he received from the other at being told to tie his hair in such a fashion, Kanda moving past him while he thankfully did nothing to the already nervous rabbit.

Expelling a sigh, Lavi moved over to the table, his fingers running over the scalpel that would soon be cutting into the flesh of the young vampire, and his fate would be entirely in Lavi's hands. Reading books could only take him so far and though he had basically memorized the entire manual back to front, the redhead knew nothing would compare to practical application.

"Lavi?"

Red hair turned to look at the approaching vampire, his body clad in a white robe that was held together with tight hands.

"Hey Allen," Lavi nodded, "you ready?"

"As ready as I can be," the younger mumbled, his body adjusting the white cloth over his body.

"Right," a hand patted the steel table, "hop on up!"

"Need a stool?"

Both head turned to look at the approaching other, his body dressed similar to Lavi while his hair was tied into his usual ponytail, his usual dual locks tightened behind his head.

"I'm not that short," Allen retorted, his eyes narrowing in defiance, while Kanda 'Che'd. "And just what are you doing here?"

"He's my assistant!" Lavi joked happily, Kanda's glaring at him enough to burn holes in the side of his head.

"I'll just get on the table then," the vampire mumbled before the elder shoved the scalpel down the redhead's throat.

Lavi nodded as the slim form slipped onto the silver table, his body slipping out of the white robe before a blanket slipped over his bare chest and underwear, his arms lying over the blue sheet. Lavi was impressive as he stuck an IV into the arm across from him.

"H-How is this gonna… um…"

"Alright," the redhead took in a deep shuddering breath, "s-so w-we're gonna… um…"

"You being nervous in no way helps me," Allen informed the other, his eyes skeptical with a touch of fear beneath the silver orbs.

"Sorry," Lavi mumbled, his chest expanding as he sucked in a deep breath, Kanda's cobalt eyes rolling while he sighed. "Okay!" the redhead broke out into a grin, "so… um… th-this is going to be a m-myocardial biopsy… b-basically-"

"Lavi," Kanda interrupted, "if you do not stop stuttering, you're going to lose your patient."

The other swallowed thickly as he pulled the pad out from its package, the scent of alcohol filling everyone's nostrils as it was dabbed with the sterilizing solution.

"Right," the redhead sighed deeply, "see, I'm going to make an incision in your arm here," his fingers slowly rubbed the spot with alcohol to sterilize it, "and I'm going to thread a catheter up it to your heart. From there I'm going to take a sample of-of the heart… you might feel a bit of pressure and a pinch but-but if everything goes right it shouldn't be more than an hour-"

"I-Is it… going to hurt?"

"Thanks to this, no," Lavi grinned as he held up the needle with the local anesthetic, "won't feel anything more than a prick and some pressure, okay?"

"Kay…"

Kanda, who stood on the other side of the Allen, felt fingers find his hand as the needle stuck into his arm, the pale cheeks holding a light flush as the silver eyes avoided the cobalt.

"You've done this before right?" Allen asked as his arm went numb, "I mean, you've a least practiced on a dummy… right?"

"Well, uh, I read about this," Lavi said hopefully while the vampire when even whiter.

"You… what!?"

"It doesn't seem really all that hard," the redhead pressed, "how difficult could it be anyway?"

Wide silver eyes turned to Kanda who stared at the other in disbelief.

"What I mean to say is," Lavi continued, trying unsuccessfully to pull himself from the hole he dug, "I'm sure the first time will be successful."

"Kanda…"

"Want me to kill you now?" the Japanese asked the vampire in response to the squeak from the creature's lips that were now pressed tightly together, Allen nodding vigorously.

"Oh come on guys!" the other tried to rectify the situation, "it'll be fine!"

"You sound like you're trying to convince me to take a shot not go through surgery!" Allen snapped, "I thought you knew what you were doing!?"

"So did I," Kanda interrupted, his eyes narrowing.

"I do," Lavi sighed deeply, "look, can we just get this over with?"

"Funny, that's what I was thinking," the vampire grumbled, his lips suddenly closing at the sight of the silver scalpel.

"Alright," the redhead started almost nervously, "here we go…"

Allen said nothing as the blade cut into his flesh, Lavi's green eyes intense as he watched the blood spill from the cut, his own heart hammering in nervousness.

"Okay," Lavi sighed, his fingers reaching for the thin catheter on the tray beside him, "next…"

"Lavi," the vampire started, "a-aren't you supposed to do this in my neck? Not my arm?"

"Do you really want someone who hasn't a clue what he's doing to cut into your neck?" Kanda asked him, his eyebrow raised in concern.

"Good point," Allen mumbled with a small smile on his lips, his breath shuddering as he inhaled deeply.

"How're you doing?" the other asked, his eyes watching the younger's reactions as the tube slid up his arm.

"F-Fine," the vampire stammered quietly, "th-thanks Kanda…"

"Don't mention it," Kanda murmured as he watched the silver eyes flicker around, the fingers of the other feeding the tube through the vein.

"Okay," Lavi breathed, "I-I think we're in the shoulder now, we should be reaching the superior vena cava soon…"

"K-Kay…" Allen mumbled, his eyes shifting slightly as his breath hitched slightly.

"Moyashi?"

"I'm fine," the younger told him too quickly, "I… no, forget it, it's nothing."

"Moyashi-"

"L-the Lavi," Allen whimpered softly, "wh-what did you do?"

"What do you mean," the elder asked, "I haven't done anything-"

"I-I think you nicked something," the vampire pressed on, "Lavi-"

"Allen calm down," Lavi told him in a panicked voice, his hands stopping with the tube, "Allen, don't move-"

"G-Get it out of me!" Allen told him, his body's attempt to move thwarted by Kanda pinning the younger to the table, his hands avoiding the tubes or any major veins.

"He's panicking," Lavi commented as he glanced to the screaming monitors, "wh-why is he-"

"You're the damn doctor," Kanda snapped, his arms holding down the younger to keep from thrashing about with the tube still in him.

"G-Get them out of me!" Allen shrieked, "please! Th-There's something wrong!"

"Moyashi," Kanda told him firmly, his hand squeezing the others tighter, "listen to me, everything's fine, Lavi's done nothing wrong."

"F-Feels like he did," Allen whimpered, his fearful silver eyes searching the cobalt, "K-Kanda-"

"Just relax," the elder murmured gently, "okay? Just relax…"

"K-Kanda-"

"You were ready for this fifteen minutes ago," Kanda told him, "what happened?"

"I-It-I thought… I thought this wasn't gonna happen," the younger whispered, his legs twitching in protest.

"Nothing has happened-"

"He's telling me it did…"

All three of them froze at the words, the silver orbs quivering as tears started to prick at their corners.

"He's telling me… you cut something…"

"He's lying," Lavi told him, his hands reaching for the monitors and screen sporting the image shown from the camera he was using to guide the tube to turn it for the vampire, "look; your blood pressure is fine. I haven't cut anything!"

"L-Lavi-"

"Do you want to stop this?"

Both heads turned to look at the young man that stood over the young vampire, his cobalt eyes watching Allen with care.

"I-I-" Allen swallowed thickly as he turned to look at Lavi's eyes, the flickers of fear in the emerald orbs. "I… I want to get this done… b-but-"

"Lavi," Kanda told him, "do you have a sedative?"

Silver eyes widened slightly as Lavi hesitantly handed him the needle, the vampire quivering slightly.

"K-Kanda…"

"If you want to go on, I'll sedate you," the elder informed him, "don't worry," his eyes seemed to soften, "you'll wake up."

Allen felt trust and warmth spread through his chest as the sight, his heart rate managing to relax and his breathing slowing slightly.

"O-Okay…"

"Alright," the Japanese whispered as he stuck the needle in the IV, the plunger pressed down, his eyes watching as the breathing slowed and the silver eyes became hazy, the pale lids fluttering slowly closed, the grip on the other's hands slacking.

"K… Kanda…" the younger breathed quietly as he succumbed to the drug, his head lolling as he slept.

"Alright," Kanda murmured, his eyes lifting to meet Lavi's, "can you continue like this?"

"Y-Yeah," Lavi nodded, "it's just… i-if I screw up-"

"Then don't," the Japanese told him firmly, his eyes narrowing dangerously while the other swallowed.

"Right," the redhead nodded, his fingers pushing to continue threading the tube into the vein, Kanda watching the chest rise and fall slowly with each breath.

Lavi was as careful as he could be when he inserted the small jaws into the tube, his eyes flickering to the camera as the jaw slowly came into sight, the teeth opening as it advanced upon the beating heart.

"Is it supposed to be beating that fast?" Kanda asked as he noted the heart muscle contract and relax with an increasing tempo.

"No," the other shook his head, a flicker of fear passed his green eyes, "no it's-"

Small gasps brought their attention back to the vampire lying on the table, the chest shuddering as the lips searched for air.

"Lavi-"

"I'm not pressing on anything that should cause that-"

"You're screwing around with his heart!" Kanda snapped as he reached for the oxygen mask, his fingers careful as he adjusted the elastic over the back of the head.

"But not the ventricles that affect the lungs!" Lavi pointed out, "wh-what do I-"

"Either get the damn sample or pull it out!" the other snapped as he watched the younger attempted to breathe through his mask.

"F-Fine!"

Lavi felt fear take hold of him as he looked towards the monitor that sported the rapidly beating heart, his lips licked as he felt sweat bead on his forehead.

"Damn," the other growled as he missed his first attempt, the claws closing in on nothing as the heart moved away from his tool.

"Lavi-"

"Don't scream at me," the redhead interrupted, "you're not helping!"

"Then do it right!"

Do this for them…

Even Kanda was impressed when the jaws managed to pull away with a small sample of heart tissue, Lavi nearly weeping with relief.

"I-I got it…"

"Now pull it out!" Kanda snapped, the younger on the table still trying to gasp for air, his head lolling slightly despite the sedative in his system. "Lavi-"

"Trust me, you don't want me to go fast!" Lavi informed him as he pulled the jaws from the tube, the sample tossed into a test tube, the catheter beginning to slip from the vein as well.

"Shit," the other muttered under his breath, "this isn't working…"

"Kanda-"

"He can't breathe right," Kanda commented as he pulled the mask from the mouth and nose, "something happened."

"I didn't-"

"I'm not saying you did," the other muttered while he tilted the head back slowly, the nose pinched closed while lips pressed against the other's, the chest rising as Kanda breathed into the younger.

"It's out!" Lavi announced, the cloth pressed against the bleeding wound.

Kanda said nothing as he continued to perform mouth-to-mouth, the anxiety on Allen's face relaxing slightly as his lungs slowly conformed to the pattern the elder set, his body returning to normal almost as fast as it went out of order.

"Kanda-"

"Mention this to him and I swear I'll shove those tools up where you don't want them," the cobalt eyes glared up at the other, "I promised him he'd come back alive; I don't lie."

Lavi merely nodded as he looked towards the tissue in the glass, his throat swallowing thickly. Anxiety flooded him at the idea that the very answer he had been searching for was now in his trembling fingers.
