*Kate P.O.V*

My head smashed against the table causing me to jolt awake with a start. I shook the sleep from my head and looked around the room. The angry and disapproving looks of the alphas stared at me.

"Is this boring you Kate?" Curran whispered in my ear causing me to jump about a foot in the air.

"Have you ever heard of personal boundaries?" I sighed; I really needed a cup of coffee.

"I've heard of them, I just chose to ignore them".

My hand reached for the hilt of my scimitar as my head turned and gave Curran a "sweet" smile.

"Now is not the time to be pissing me off Kate" he growled at me as that annoyingly handsome gold sheen rolled over his eyes.

"Well you know what Headlights; it's not a good time for me either, if you hadn't noticed things aren't too peachy down my end of the river either!" I snapped

"Children are dying Kate, and you think now's the time to fall asleep!"

"Well it's doing a lot more good than sitting here with our thumbs up our arses and scratching our heads thinking about what's heads about what's happened!"

Someone behind me cleared their throat.

"Your Majesty, if I may, could you and your… consort, take this elsewhere, right now, we have more important things to be doing."

I pivoted on the spot, grabbing my scimitar on the way. I saw the person standing and quickly took in his features. Male, short brown hair, squashed features, tall but weedy. I felt a smile play on my lips and a coldness spread through my body, one which brought with it the feeling of unlimited power. I felt the veins bulge around my eyes as black blood, full of potent magic, clawed its way into them. The male paled considerably, but stood his ground.

"You must be a jackal." I licked my lips and the new additions that I had to my teeth. I was hungry to christen my new sword with blood. "You do realise, dog, that I can't remember anything or anyone around this table, so I have absolutely no emotional qualms about killing you. So let's get one thing straight." I took a step towards him. "I am no one's consort". I took another step, bringing my sword up in front of me; his eyes flicked towards it. Yes, it is a pretty sword isn't it? Or is it the sudden change in appearance? "And if I want to argue with someone, I shall do it, whenever and wherever I want." The tip of my blade was at his throat now. And a smile played across my lips as a bead of blood leaked from the nick I'd made. "Are we clear?" I leant forward and took a deep breath in through my nose. I could practically hear his heartbeat. A bead of sweat rolled down his neck. "I love the smell of fear in the morning."

I sighed, took a step back and let the blade drop, I'd made my point. I felt the teeth retreat and my face return back to its natural state. Alpha's are all about power, to get anything from them, you've got to prove that you're willing to fight.

I pivoted and faced Curran, raising an eyebrow in defiance. I heard him grumble as he started walking towards me. He didn't even stop as he walked past me and grabbed my arm, and started dragging me towards the door.

"Kate, I need a word with you." He stopped at the door and turned to face his alphas. "The rest of you know what to do. Gather the children and put them in the cages, guard them, lock down the Keep. I want every shifter reported in, in an hour."

And with that, we exited the door. He dragged me towards the big stair case I'd found earlier and after about five flights of stairs, I realised that he was dragging me all the way to the top. I let out a sigh of frustration and let him drag me up. If he wanted me up all of these stairs, he could take my weight.

When we finally reached the top, we passed through a couple of rooms (one which was extremely pink and tacky, until we finally reached what seemed to be a one bedroom apartment…. One with blood stains on the floor…. Oooops.

Someone from his guard came by the door. He was tall, at least six feet, lanky, but his figure promised to fill out into huge, hulking muscles soon. He had brown hair and a devilishly handsome face that still had a puupy-ish look about it, but when it fully matured, would have to fight off women with those muscles.

"Derek, make sure we're not disturbed."

He gave a silent nod to Curran and a pained look at me before he shut the door.

"Oh, so he's Derek…. Hey, was he the one I strangled in the café?"

Curran grimaced.

"Yer, he's still sore about that by the way, so I wouldn't ask him to spar with you for a while."

This time, it was my turn to grimace.

"How did you do that thing with your face? Last time you did that you pretty much vamped out."

"It's a mirror spell. A witch taught it to me when I was helping her out with a poltergeist. When you get possessed, and if the thing which has possessed you was exorcised, you can mirror its power for a short amount of time."

"How short is a short?"

"About 5-10 minutes. Depends on the strength of the magic and the magic user. It's handy 'cause to kill a poltergeist you need to actually be able to see it, hence the mirror spell."

A look of thought passed across his face, and with a brief shake of his head, it was gone.

"So why did you drag me up here your fuzziness?"

Curran turned his back to me and started pacing the floor.

"I'm confused Kate. Ever since I've known you, you've been consistent in what and who you are. You've always had a professional distance from me and any other of my staff, and now you practically jumped into my bed after just meeting me after you'd had your memory wiped."

I stared at him dumbfounded.

"Whoa! Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, whoa! After all that's happened all you've picked up on is the fact that I've slept with you?
