Yay Tyzonn! Really, I adore this clueless alien. He's so sweet.
I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 12: Face To Face Part 1
Walking down into the rec room as she dried off the ends of her hair with a dark golden towel, Ari found Xander, Ronny, Dax and Will sitting there. Ronny was reading while Will was playing with his phone, and Dax and Xander were playing a video game.
"Hey, where have you been?" Ronny smiled when she noticed her approach them.
"I've been slacking on training since I got sick, so got some skateboarding in, then some martial arts practice, then I showered," Ari replied with a grin. She had recovered from her Sun Sickness after three days rest and only one monster attack, but had been taking it easy under Spencer's orders, so she didn't get sick again. Xander had stayed around to make sure she did behave herself.
"And we all thank you for that," Will smirked. Ari rolled her eyes at Ronny, whose smile widened as she tried not to laugh.
"Where's Mack and Rose?" Ari asked, more to Ronny than the others.
"Rose is off still trying to decipher that scroll," Ronny shrugged, looking bored at the thought. "And Mack is trying to get his dad to take a break from his latest project," the Yellow Ranger added. Ari shook her head as she tossed the towel into a laundry basket nearby.
"He's still down there? He's been holed up there for like two days!" Ari exclaimed in disbelief. "He's gonna burn out. Even Cam isn't that bad...anymore..." she murmured, thinking back to when Cam had first become a Ranger, and had tried to juggle his duties in Ninja Ops with his Ranger duties before he created Cyber Cam.
"Yeah well, he's not gonna listen to us about it. He had that crazy look in his eyes that Dax gets when he hears about a new movie," Ronny smirked.
"Hey!" Dax protested, looking around insulted as Ari giggled.
"That's a fair point," the Gold Ranger agreed.
"Hey!" Dax yelled again. Will smirked, not looking up from his phone.
"Well, whatever he has cooking down there, it's bound to be awesome," Ari shrugged, taking a seat and lifting the book she had left on the table beside it.
"But the question is, who gets to use it?" Will asked, finally looking up at the others. Dax paused his game to look around, all of them now curious.
It didn't take the four long to find out when Mack practically bounced into the rec room, eager to tell them all about the Sonic Streaker. His father had announced that it would be his to use, and so Mack was over the moon.
"Did I tell you, it can reach Mach 2 in less than thirty seconds?" Mack asked, still bouncing as he rambled on about the jet-like Zord Andrew was making.
"Only about 30 times," Will rolled his eyes, sounding bored.
"And the super-thrusters boost the speed to Mach 3 in less than a minute," Ronny spoke up, trying not to look as fed up as Will was. "That's amazing Mack, but we've heard all about it," she told him as Mack deflated.
"Don't listen to the party-poopers Mack," Ari told him, sitting with her legs across Xander's lap. She rested the book on her stomach and grinned. "The Sonic Streaker sounds awesome dude!" she told him, and Mack brightened again.
"Yeah it does," Xander agreed, pulling Ari closer. "Way better than anything we got," the Earth Wizard told him.
"Good news team," Rose announced brightly as she walked into the rec room, holding the scroll. "I think I made some progress in figuring out how to read this parchment," she told them proudly.
"Don't tell me, you looked it up in the alien-to-English dictionary?" Ronny smirked. Ari giggled, hiding her face behind her book as Rose shot them a frown.
"No, but I called a colleague at the university, Professor Ryan, he's a total genius when it comes to languages and codes," Rose told them. "I'm going to take him the parchment to see if he can figure any of it out," she smiled.
"Oh, can I come too?" Ari pulled out of Xander's arms and leapt to her feet. "I've always wanted to go to England," she smiled at the Pink Ranger brightly.
"Sure," Rose nodded with a laugh.
"Me too!" Dax abandoned the game to follow as they started to walk out. Ronny rolled her eyes, shaking her head at his eagerness.
"While you're at it, take Mack too," she called after them, making them glance around at her. "He can tell you all about the Sonic Streaker then," she grinned, and Mack brightened.
"Oh, great idea!" he joined them, and the four left the room as Mack started telling them even more about his new toy.
"Holy hell, why is it so cold here?" Ari complained, pulling her jacket closer as a cold wind blew past.
"Because you're not in California anymore," Mack smirked at her. Ari stuck her tongue out at him in response. She shivered again, before finding a large black and red jacket over her shoulders.
"Don't you need it?" she asked in surprise.
"I don't get cold," Mack smirked back at her. Ari stuck out her tongue again, and pulled the jacket closer around her. Dax gave a barely audible sigh, and Mack shot him a warning look.
"Fascinating," the man sitting at the small table with them breathed, completely oblivious to their conversation.
"But can you understand any of the symbols, Professor?" Rose asked him hopefully. However, before the man could respond, a powerful blast hit the table and exploded, throwing them all away from each other. The monster responsible for attacking ran over and swiped the scroll that had fallen to the ground, before running off again.
"Professor Ryan, are you ok?" Rose moved towards the older man worriedly.
"Yes, I'm fine," he confirmed. The four Rangers then pushed themselves up and raced after the monster.
"Ready?" Mack yelled as they grabbed their Trackers.
"Ready!"
"OVERDRIVE, ACCELERATE!" the four morphed, and Rose led the way down a shortcut that brought them out in front of the monster, who skidded to a stop quickly. His clawed grip around the scroll tightened as he growled at them.
"Hand over the scroll dude," Ari told him, aiming her blaster at him. Before they could attack, there was another roar, and a second monster landed between them, blocking their path. "What? Another? Oh come on!" she complained.
"Don't worry Tyzonn, I'll take care of these colourful pests," the dragon-like monster laughed.
"Great, another one of Moltor's goons," Dax groaned loudly.
"Here's a message from him!" the dragon blasted them, and the other monster Tyzonn took off.
"No way are you guys getting that scroll!" Ari leapt up when she saw him escaping. Chasing after him, Tyzonn was faster than her, making Ari groan. Snapping her fingers, Ari disappeared, and Tyzonn glanced over his shoulder. He looked in front of him just as Ari reappeared, and tackled him. "Give it back!" the Gold Ranger ordered him, fighting with the monster.
"No!" Tyzonn yelled, planting his feet in her stomach. He kicked her away, and Ari landed with a thud nearby. Tyzonn jumped back up and ran off again, making Ari growl as she pushed herself up and followed him.
"You can't escape me dude, so just quit and give that back," she called after him, catching up to him on an overhead bridge. They began to fight, and Ari grabbed his wrist.
"Let go of me!" Tyzonn yelled, pulling back and accidentally tugging them both over the side of the bridge as he overbalanced. Using Tyzonn, Ari landed on his shoulders and pushed off, backflipping and landing lightly on the ground as Tyzonn hit the ground hard. Ari ran at him, but as she went to grab the scroll from him, he shot her with a blast of power that threw her back. Rolling away from her, Tyzonn spotted a small pouch nearby lying open, with several small crystals having fallen out of it. "Oh no!" he cried, scrambling towards it. Taking advantage of his distraction, Ari leapt at him again and grabbed the scroll.
"Give it!"
"Never!" Tyzonn pulled back, and there was a loud ripping noise. The two fell away from each other, each holding part of the scroll.
"Whoa. Deja Vu much?" Ari looked down at the scrap in her hand.
"Let's go!" the Dragon roared as he knocked away the other Rangers he had been fighting, and ran over as Tyzonn got back to his feet. They disappeared in a flash of smoke, making the Rangers groan.
"Oh man, we lost them!" Dax complained.
"Ari, are you ok?" Rose asked as they hurried over to the Gold Ranger.
"I'm fine. Sorry guys, this is all I could get of the scroll back," she apologised, holding out the scrap of parchment.
"Hey, what's this?" Dax crouched, lifting a small fragment of the crystal from the ground and examining it.
"I have no clue. That monster was pretty focused on it though," Ari shrugged as she leaned closer to examine it as well. "We should get back. Maybe this bit of scroll will tell us something," she suggested. They nodded, turning and heading back.
Having returned to the Hartford mansion, the Rangers regrouped in Andrew's office. Professor Ryan, who had accompanied them, stood translating the scroll as best he could.
"Unfortunately I can't translate all of it," he announced after half an hour of studying the parchment. "But I do recognise some of these symbols from extraterrestrial crop circles," Professor Ryan told them as all but Ari gathered around him. "This one represents 'mountain'," he pointed to the symbol. "And I think this one means 'diamond'," he pointed to the next.
"This is it Rangers," Andrew smiled to his team. "I have a feeling that this document can lead us right to the second Jewel of the Corona Aurora," he told them confidently, making them smile.
As Rose led Professor Ryan away so he could return to London, Mack approached Ari, who had been quiet since they returned to San Angeles.
"You did a great job in getting that piece of the scroll Ari," he told her as he sat down beside her. Taking her quiet as her feeling guilty for only getting a piece of the scroll, Mack tried to console her. "If you hadn't stopped that thing, they would have gotten the whole parchment," he said.
"Tyzonn," she stated, making him frown. "His name is Tyzonn," Ari lifted the crystal, studying it.
"Does it matter what his name was?" Ronny approached with Dax, raising an eyebrow. "He's one of Moltor's goons," she reminded her. Ari shook her head.
"He got really upset when he saw this was broken. I've never seen a monster get upset over anything, except when they couldn't destroy us. Except for Zurgane, but he was just whiny," she added as an afterthought.
"Out of all the monsters that have tried to pulverize us, he was definitely the most sensitive," Dax sniggered, but it quickly stopped as Ari shot him a frown. "Oh come on Ari, he was just like any other cold-blooded, lizard-faced freak," he gave a weak laugh, but she shook her head.
"He wasn't. He was different. Totally different," she insisted.
"Oh no," Xander groaned suddenly, sitting on her other side. "Not again. Tell me you don't think this guy is another Matoombo," he pleaded with her.
"Hey, I was right about Matoombo, wasn't I?" Ari challenged him, looking up and raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend.
"Well...yeah..." Xander frowned. "But come on, the chances of it happening again? It's impossible Ari," he insisted, having seen the creature in the footage.
"Not impossible. Just unlikely," Ari corrected him, looking down at the crystal in her hand.
"Who's Matoombo?" Mack asked, looking from one to the other. Before Ari could answer, the alarm blared and they looked over to the TV screen.
"Power Rangers!" the dragon monster from before showed up amidst destruction in the city. "There'll be more destruction if you don't bring us the parchment! I suggest you do before anyone gets hurt," he warned them.
"He doesn't have to tell me twice," Ronny growled. "Anyone mind if I take the Transtek?" she looked to the other Rangers.
"Go for it Ronny," Andrew nodded in confirmation, making her grin.
"Sweet," she turned and ran to the mantlepiece over the fireplace, and flipped a switch. Backing up as it moved to reveal the entrance to the poles, she leapt down, morphing as she did, while Ari grabbed the piece of parchment from the table on her way out.
The Rangers hurried onto the scene already morphed as they herded the terrified civilians away from the two monsters.
"No! Look out!" Tyzonn yelled as he noticed a building crumble, and a large piece fall towards a woman too scared to move. He ran towards her, only for Ronny to get there first, catching the debris. Ari looked up from nearby, helping a little girl up and over to her parents, who quickly ran off, and spotted Tyzonn reaching the woman.
"Hurry, get out of here!" he cried, but the woman, terrified, just screamed, thinking he was going to attack her. "Hey, it's ok!" Tyzonn insisted, but she ran off, still screaming.
"Get away from her!" Ronny yelled, noticing him. She changed the Transtek into its humanoid form, and blasted him, sending him flying. He landed beside the dragon monster, who growled at him.
"Enough! You know what we're here for," the Dragon said as Tyzonn got back to his feet. The Rangers, regrouping, stood in front of the two. "Now that we have your attention, where's the parchment?" he demanded.
"I've got it right here," Ari stepped forwards, holding up the parchment.
"Tyzonn, get it from her," the dragon ordered.
"Yes..." Tyzonn nodded, walking towards Ari.
"Be ready guys," Ari called over her shoulder as she approached slowly. They nodded, watching warily. Stopping in front of Tyzonn, Ari suddenly demorphed, taking everyone by surprise.
"Hand me the parchment," Tyzonn ordered, but there was an uncertainty to his voice as he looked down at her. Without her Ranger suit, she looked completely vulnerable and helpless.
"I saw you try to help her. That woman back there. You're not like the others, are you?" she asked, tilting her head. Tyzonn hesitated, before shaking his head.
"I am one of them!" he declared, snatching at the parchment. However, Ari was ready, dodging his move.
"Now!" she yelled. Rose and Will fired their blasters at the dragon, tying him up in cables. Tyzonn bolted, and Ari gave chase, ignoring her team's yells to stop.
"Hey! Stop!" Ari pleaded as she continued to chase down Tyzonn. He was fast, she gave him that. "Please, just stop and talk to me!" she pleaded as she started to catch up.
"Get away from me!" he turned and blasted her, but Ari raised a shield and blocked it just in time. "What? What was that?" he demanded, alarmed as the air shimmered in front of Ari.
"You're not the only one who has powers dude," she told him gently.
"Leave me alone!" Tyzonn yelled, turning and running off. Ari sighed, but instead of leaving it, she continued to follow him.
Ari finally caught up to Tyzonn again when he stopped at a lake nearby. Water splashed down a waterfall, and Tyzonn stared at his reflection before letting out an agonising yell.
"Hey..." she approached as he stomped his foot into his reflection.
"I said leave me alone!" Tyzonn snapped as he looked around at the girl. "Stay away from me!" he snarled.
"Please, I don't want to fight you, and I know you don't want to fight me either," Ari told him gently, making herself look as unthreatening as possible.
"How do you know that?" he demanded. Ari gave a small smile.
"What happened in our last fight, it was bugging me. Something was off and I couldn't figure it out, but now I know," Ari didn't move, and Tyzonn waited, seeming curious. "You weren't trying to fight me. You were protecting yourself and that parchment. The only time you actually fought me off, was when I attacked first. And you tried to help that woman back there. You're not like Moltor's other goons," Ari challenged him. "Who are you really?" she asked.
"I am no-one," Tyzonn turned away. "And when Moltor finds out I don't have the whole parchment, it won't matter anyway. I will be eliminated," he sighed, resigned to his fate.
"So we need the whole parchment too and we can't give up the piece we have. We both lose," Ari shrugged.
"What is this document? Why does everyone seek it?" Tyzonn's question surprised Ari.
"You mean Moltor never told you? It's the next clue in finding the second Jewel of the Corona Aurora," she told him. Tyzonn whirled around in shock.
"The Corona Aurora has been find?" he demanded.
"Yeah, it was found here on Earth. And now Moltor, Flurious, and a bunch of other evil dudes are out to get it," Ari shrugged.
"But if Moltor gets the Jewels, he'll use them to crush everything that's good, on all planets," Tyzonn told her worriedly, looking down at the parchment in his hand.
"Yeah, he will. Me and my team are fighting to stop Moltor and the others from getting the Jewels," Ari explained, her voice still gentle as she took a small step towards him, not wanting to spook him. "But if we're gonna find the next Jewel, we need the rest of that parchment. Please Tyzonn," the Gold Ranger pleaded, her eyes large as he watched her. Tyzonn hesitated, curious about her expression. "If you help us, we can stop Moltor, and I promise I won't let him hurt you," Ari added, looking determined. He watched her, before looking down at the parchment in his hand.
"I must go..." Tyzonn turned and walked away. Groaning, Ari followed him.
The Dragon was making easy work of the remaining five Rangers, tossing Ronny and Dax to the ground to join the others as he laughed.
"That was easier than I thought!" he laughed in amusement. "Motor will be pleased when I eliminate you!" he declared.
"Stop!" the five looked up in shock as Tyzonn emerged from the trees and ran towards them, stopping in front of the Rangers. Raising his arms, he stood as a defence against the dragon. "Don't hurt them anymore!" he yelled.
"Tyzonn, what are you doing here?!" the dragon demanded. "Do you have the rest of the parchment?" he asked.
"No. And I won't get it for you," Tyzonn replied defiantly. The dragon snarled in shock. "I won't get it..." he repeated, falling to his knees. "I can't be a part of this anymore...I've made a big mistake," he cried.
"Yes, you have!" they looked around as Moltor approached with his sword. Tyzonn got back to his feet, facing the monster.
"Moltor, this destruction has to stop!" Tyzonn pleaded. "I don't care about our deal. I won't help you anymore," he told the monster defiantly.
"I see..." Moltor nodded, considering this. "Well, here's what happens to traitors!" he declared, attacking Tyzonn with his sword. The blade raked down Tyzonn's arm, drawing bright green blood that ran down his arm and dripped onto the ground. Tyzonn cried out in pain, grabbing his arm.
"Do your worst!" he challenged, refusing to obey Moltor any longer. Moltor growled and swung his sword again, only for it to bounce harmlessly off Ari's shield.
"How about you try me instead?" Ari, morphed again, called on her swords as her shield shattered. She went on the offensive, fighting off Moltor as Tyzonn stared at her.
"This isn't your business, Gold Ranger!" Moltor warned her with a snarl.
"You made him steal the scroll from us. You made it my business," Ari replied calmly, continuing to fight him. Moltor kicked her back, only for Mack to join the fight.
"Go on Ari, get that lizard back here!" he yelled.
"His name is Tyzonn!" Ari shouted, but turned and ran after Tyzonn, who had run off when Ari had intercepted the killing blow.
It hadn't been difficult to track Tyzonn, whose footprints and green blood led a clear trail to him. In the forest, he was slumped on the ground against a tree. Still clutching his arm, Tyzonn seemed unable to stop the bleeding.
"Need some help?" Ari asked as she approached, demorphing and making Tyzonn look up quickly.
"It seems even with these hideous scales, I'm vulnerable to injury. Moltor would have finished me off if you hadn't saved me," he stated as Ari crouched beside him.
"I told you I'd help you. Well, I said I wouldn't let him hurt you, but..." she looked down to his injured arm and slowly touched it, her fingers brushing against the rough scales. "Finishio," she breathed, and the cut healed instantly.
"What?!" Tyzonn gasped in alarm. "You have magic?" he hissed at her. Ari nodded, smiling at him brightly. "How?" he asked.
"It's a long story," Ari told him.
"I owe you my thanks," Tyzonn lowered his head, before Ari offered her hand.
"I'm Ari," she smiled, and after a moment he clasped her hand with his clawed one.
"I was once called Tyzonn, and I've brought shame to my planet by bowing to Moltor's will," he shook his head in shame.
"We all mess up now and again. What really matters is what you're going to do to fix it," Ari told him, her expression serious again.
"If you'll trust me, I'd like to make amends for the harm I've done," Tyzonn held out his piece of the parchment. Ari smiled widely, lifting hers from her pocket. "Moltor must be stopped," he spoke determinedly.
"I've been told I trust too easily, but you remind me of a friend of mine so I think it's worth it," Ari smiled at him.
"I do?" Tyzonn looked up at her curiously.
"I'll tell you about him later," Ari said, looking down at the parchment. "Let's get this sorted first," they held up the pieces, which began to glow golden. A moment later, the light faded and the parchment was whole again. "Now that's awesome," she grinned. "Let's get going," she stood up and held out her hand.
"Yes," Tyzonn nodded in agreement, taking her hand. They walked through the forest, heading back to where the other Rangers where, and Ari looked at the parchment in her hands.
"Hey dude, can you read these?" she asked, holding it up.
"No. this language is unfamiliar to me," Tyzonn shook his head. Ari groaned, wondering just who would be able to translate it if an alien couldn't. They both suddenly stopped, looking around, before they were surrounded by a large group of Lava Lizards.
"Oh...fantastic," Ari groaned, falling into a fighting stance.
Let me know what you think!
