Rock & Roll
Chapter 12 : Reappear

Darkness... There's nothing more than pitch black in Rock's mind before his consciousness began to stir. He felt like he was lying down on a table, making him curious.

Slowly, he opened his eyes, and it took a moment before Rock's eyes regained its focus. He looked around, finding that he's back home, currently inside the main lab of "Dr. Light's Laboratory".

Rock looked to his right, and was surprised when he found his sister there, sitting behind the table he laid on, fast asleep. She had her arms folded, her head was resting on them.

With wide eyes, Rock looked to his sister in shock, remembering the time his sister suddenly collapses and was left 'offline' when the powerful Roboenza virus she got from her contact with Airman's body has taken its tool on her.

Rock slowly pushed himself to a sitting position, his wide green eyes still focused to the sleeping form of his sister.

"R-... Roll?" the boy muttered, unsure of himself, dreading that the sleeping form of his sister beside him was not real and he was dreaming.

"Mmm... W-What...?" the girl in Rock's wonder opened her eyes lazily, as if she's still sleepy. But when her blue eyes focused at Rock, her eyes sprung open. She gave out a loud gasp before she jumped up from her seat.

"R-Rock!" Roll cried out in relief, reaching her arms to Rock before pulling him to a hug, which surprises the robot boy. "Y-You're awake! I-I'm so glad you're okay!"

Rock smiled, feeling glad that what he sees now wasn't a dream. "It's good to see you healthy again, Roll," the robot boy said, returning Roll's hug. When he did so, he newly noticed that he was in his civilian form— the long sleeves of the big light blue hoodie he wore proves it.

"Are you feeling better?" Roll inquired her brother.

Rock chuckled a bit. "I'm sorry, Roll. But I think I should be the one who asked that."

"Really...? Oh, come on, Rock! Can't you see it?" Roll gently let go her hug from Rock, placing her arms to her hips with a wide smile adorning her face. "I'm totally fine! Dad said he managed to remove the Roboenza virus I got from Airman away from my body!"

Rock smiled. "Well..." the brunette boy began, hopping off the metal table he laid on, "I take it Dad had done something with—" the boy stopped, his eyes widened when a realization hit him.

"Wait a sec... I have not taken Solarman's data..." Rock looked up to Roll. "I-It... It must be Protoman! Roll, where is he...?"

Roll frowned at the question. "Well... I'm not quite sure Protoman is really here since I'm still unconscious back then, but Dad said that he's really here, though he left early," the blonde girl began. "Dad said Protoman came here with you unconscious in his arms. After our older brother gave Dad a copy of Solarman's data, he asked Dad if he could get redesigned like the rest of us, and Dad approve it.

"While the machine that redesigned our older brother did its job, Dad and Auto make the medicine for me. When they're finished, they gave it to me, and it took a moment before I woke up," Roll continued her answer. "But unfortunately, Protoman is... well, being 'himself'. So when he saw me almost awake, he quickly left the lab, even when his redesigning wasn't complete yet. Dad said only his body was completely redesigned, while his systems were only half-done."

Rock's eyes widened at the last part. "W-What...? T-That's totally dangerous! Why would our older brother do that...?"

Roll sighed, shaking her head. "I wish I knew... Though, I think Protoman is really being... well, 'himself'."

Rock lowered his head, wondering if he could meet Protoman soon, as he haven't thank his older brother for saving both him and Roll.

Dr. Light entered the main lab a second later, and couldn't help but gasped in surprise when he saw Rock and Roll.

"R-Rock! You're awake!" Dr. Light rushed to his creations before pulling them into a hug, surprising both Rock and Roll. "O-Oh, dear... I-I'm so glad you're both alright... Dr. Wily had really done it this time..." At the last statement, tears began to form in the doctor's eyes, not for sadness— it's for joy.

Dr. Light gently let go his hug from his two creations, looking at them with a small frown on his face. "I'm so sorry... You both need to went through such danger. If only Dr. Wily not held a grudge against me..." the doctor trailed off, and was silent for a second or two before he sighed, and finished what he's going to say, "... there's no need for my son— Rock— to be remodeled as a fighting robot known as Megaman, and there's no need for my daughter— Roll, who 'accidentally' got full combat functions in her systems— to follow her brother's way to stop Dr. Wily."

Roll looked at Dr. Light sympathetically, wondering what could she do to cheer up her father. She opened her mouth, but then closed it again, not sure how to respond right away.

The room fell silent for a moment before Rock speak up, breaking the silence.

"We don't mind doing this, Dad," the brunette boy began, smiling to his father. "I mean, to know we could turn everyone's frown upside down and bring peace to the world... It sounds like a dream come true just at the thought of it. And I believe... right now, Roll felt the same way."

Rock turned to his sister, smiling at her. "... Right?"

Roll smiled in return before giving her brother a firm nod. "Of course!" she said aloud, looking back to Dr. Light. "Sure, the road is sometimes tricky and dangerous, but we don't mind! After all, that's what heroes do for the world!"

"W-... Why that's so enthusiastic of you, dear Roll," Dr. Light commented with a laugh, the frown on his face replaced with a smile. Rock and Roll looked to one another, and couldn't help but laughed as well.

The happy moment was cut off when suddenly, Auto bursting into the room, surprising Dr. Light and his two creations.

"D-Doctor!" the big green bot called out, sounding frantic. "I-I've check up this weird device Beat found at his way home from Solarman's stage, a-and turns out it was a video phone. When I open it up, it was connected to someone, b-but..."

Auto held up his right arm to Dr. Light, which holding a device colored orange in a shape of a circle, a red button was seen at the center of the circle-shaped device.

"I-I..." Auto stammered, as Dr. Light took the circle-shaped device from Auto's hand, "... I had no idea who it is."

"Then let us check who's this 'someone'," Dr. Light uttered, pressing the red button on the orange circle-shaped device. When the doctor do so, a hologram screen begins to emit from it, showing them an unfamiliar face of an armored figure, whose eyes is hidden by the black visor on the figure's helmet.

"Greetings, Dr. Thomas Light," the figure— who was revealed to be a male— said once he saw Dr. Light's face. "You might ask how did I know you, but that doesn't matter. I only seek for one of your creations... A robot with the serial number DLN-001, otherwise known as Megaman. Is he there, by any chance?"

Rock was about to step in front of the screen, wanting to speak to the mysterious male figure, but Dr. Light held out a hand in front of his son, stopping him.

"No, Rock," the doctor whispered, looking at the brunette boy. "What this person want to see is Megaman, and you're currently not him. I don't want this person to see you unarmed, even if it was indirectly."

"B-But Dad—" Rock began to protest, but Dr. Light already turned his attention back to the hologram screen.

"I'm sorry, but Megaman has not come home," Dr. Light told the figure, looking at him sternly. "If I may ask, can I know why you're looking for him? I could tell him about you as soon as he gets back."

The male figure seems a bit surprised at this. "He hasn't come back? Why that's surprising, Dr. Thomas Light. I thought he had left Solarman's stage a few minutes ago..."

Dr. Light, Auto, Roll, and Rock were surprised at the male figure's statement. How did he know about that?

"A-Are you..." Dr. Light looked at the figure with a gritted teeth, "... spying on us?"

"Not quite. But back to the point," the male figure leaned forward a bit, "Dr. Thomas Light... I want you to tell Megaman that I challenge him to a battle. Tell him to meet me at the coördinates I'm sending you when this call ends."

A serious look appeared on Dr. Light's face. "I see... Very well, I will tell Megaman about this when he gets back."

"Good," the male figure uttered, bringing his right arm to the right side of his helmet. "I expect to see him soon," he added, then the transmission cut off.

Not long after that, the circle-shaped device Dr. Light held let out a 'beep', indicating that the coördinates has been sent successfully by the male figure.

"That must be the coördinates. Alright, Auto, we need to extract the coördinates from—" Dr. Light began, but was cut off when Rock placed his right hand on the device, and let go a few seconds later.

"Coördinates successfully copied," Rock said with a smile, while Dr. Light and Auto had their mouths agape, forgetting that either Rock and Roll had scanning capability, and it will be so much easier to 'extract' the coördinates from the device if Dr. Light thought to ask either Rock or Roll to 'scan' the circle-shaped device.

"Dad, I need to face this new robot right away," Rock said, looking to his father with a serious look on his face. "The sooner I got there, the quicker we know what's he up to."

"I know you will said that, Rock," the kind doctor replied, nodding. "But I want you to try this new invention of mine."

Dr. Light walked to his son, his hands reaching for Rock's left hand before holding it up gently. Not long after, the brunette boy felt something was wrapped around his left wrist before Dr. Light releases his hold from Rock's left hand.

"Umm... Dad, what's this?" Rock examined the thing at his left wrist in wonder, which revealed to be a square watch in cobalt color that had small light blue button and small rectangular orange screen— currently displaying the time.

"Something I invented when you're out to beat Solarman," Dr. Light began, somehow looking proud with his new invention. "However, it's not just an ordinary watch, Rock. Try to push that small button on the watch."

"Umm... Okaay..." Rock brought his right hand to the watch, wondering what will happen next. When the brunette boy pushed the button, suddenly, the numbers at the watch's small orange screen formed to writings that said 'SWITCH ON', and his body slowly engulfed by blue light...

When the light died down, Rock looked to himself, and was surprised when he found himself in his blue armor.

"W-What the...?" Rock— now Megaman, uttered in shock, still looking at himself. "H-How did I...?" he trailed off, and shifted his gaze to Dr. Light in awe and confusion.

"That watch allow you to transform to Megaman in no time. It took a while for me to finish it," Dr. Light explained, smiling. "So... What do you think, Ro— Megaman?"

"I-It's... It's amazing, Dad. Who would've thought of this if it wasn't you?" Megaman said with a light chuckle, giving his father a smile. "Thank you, Dad... Now I need to go."

"Don't you mean 'we'?" Roll pointed out, as Megaman turned to her.

"R-Roll, you can't come!" the Blue Bomber protested, shaking his head.

Roll seems surprised at this. "W-Why not...?"

"Because he's looking for me, Roll, not you!" Megaman retorted aloud, his right hand swung to the side. "Besides, you've just recovered, right? I don't want bad things happen to you!"

"B-But Megaman—!"

"No, Roll!" the Blue Bomber almost snapped upon saying that, which surprises his blonde sister. "L-Look, Roll. I know I give you permission to fight, but it only applies to anything related to Dr. Wily! Other than that, I'm not letting you go!"

"M-Megaman..." Roll muttered quietly, her right hand placed over her chest.

Megaman take a few steps back. "Dad, Auto, Roll... I'll be back soon," the Blue Bomber said, his body slowly materialized to a blue light.

"... Roll?" the Blue Bomber called his sister, who looked up to him once she heard him calling her. "I-I'm sorry... I'm not mad at you, okay? It's just that..." he trailed off, slowly looking away from Roll.

"It's... It's alright, Megaman," Roll said with a smile, giving her brother a nod. "I understand... that you only worried for my well-being."

Megaman gave out a light gasp as his head shot up, looking at Roll in surprise, not expecting his sister would know what he had in mind. But slowly, the Blue Bomber smiled, and mutter out "Thanks" to his sister before he was gone from the sight in a beam of blue light.

Megaman... Please be careful... Roll thought, her hands clasped together over her chest, hoping everything will be alright...
