Hey guys! I was on vacation in NYC for 2 weeks and I didn't get back home until last night so that's why I didn't update sooner. So this chapter's pretty long. Over 3,700 words. So enjoy!
Disclaimer: Disney should just 'Let It Go' and give me Frozen ;)
Chapter 12: Confessions
Elsa was always, and still is, a morning person. Which is a stark contrast to Anna, who would almost never get up before nine. Seven-thirty in the morning, Elsa was completely dressed for their rehearsal of a new play and had started making breakfast. She smirked and tried to stifle a giggle as she heard a snore come from Anna's room. "Anna!" Elsa called, after she finished giggling. "Anna, get up! Weaselton is going to be mad if we're late!"
"Hmmmmph. Let him be mad," Anna groaned in response.
Elsa paused for a few moments, before saying, "I'm making waffles."
"What kind of waffles?" Anna asked, sounding a lot more awake.
"Chocolate chip waffles."
In a matter of seconds, Anna was already downstairs, sitting in the dining room with an excited grin plastered on her face and her wild bed hair. Elsa couldn't stifle the laugh that came as she served the strawberry blonde her waffles. Anna began to dig in as Elsa served herself as well.
"You make the best waffles ever!" Anna declared through a mouthful.
Elsa again fails to not giggle. They stay there, eating their waffles and talking before Elsa's expression turns to a more serious one.
"Anna?" Elsa started, getting said girl's attention.
"Yeah Elsa?" Anna responded as she swallowed the last of her waffles. The waffles never did stand a chance.
"I, um, I know how difficult these past few days have been."
"Oh," Anna said as her demeanor changes. "Yeah. You could say that again."
"Well, I'm not trying to push you or anything because it's all up to you, but have you...made a decision?" Elsa asked carefully.
Anna's gaze shifted from Elsa to the floor and she was fidgeting a little in her seat. Elsa saw how the question made her sister uneasy. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked; it isn't any of my business anyway."
Anna looked up at her sister. "Well, I-um-I have actually."
"Oh, you have?" Elsa said surprised. She thought Anna would've taken a little longer. "Yeah," Anna said with a shrug.
"Okay. That's great! I'm happy for you," Elsa said trying to sound supportive. Anna sighed and started playing with her fork.
"What's wrong?" Elsa asked. She thought Anna would've been relieved. Instead, she still looked a tad conflicted.
"It's just that...I don't want to hurt him," Anna bit her lip after speaking.
"Well, I mean whoever you choose, the other guy has to understand," Elsa said.
"Yeah, I know. But still."
They stayed in silence, rehearsal somewhat forgotten. It were times like these where Elsa wanted to comfort her sister and tell her everything would be alright. But at the same time, she was a little shy about it, because there were times in their childhood where Elsa just didn't do it because she would just lock herself away from everything. So instead asked the one question that everyone wanted to know. "So who'd you go with?"
The answer Anna gave her made Elsa's heart drop, for it wasn't the person she had hoped and prayed it would be.
Kristoff only slept maybe two hours at most, and when he woke up the next morning, he was greeted with the biggest headache he had ever experienced in his twenty-one years of living. Whether it was a from the previous night of heavy drinking or the lack of sleep he had or a mixture of both, he didn't know. All he knew was that his notifications alarm went off. He reached for his phone and unlocked it, revealing it to see that Eugene had just texted him. The message read: Get down here now! I just talked to Hans and he said he'd be here in 15 minutes.
Fifteen minutes! Kristoff ran inside his room and from only being in boxers, he quickly changed into his work uniform quickly, used some mouthwash, gave Sven and quick at on the head, and bolted out his apartment towards his pickup truck. He drove as fast as the law would allow him, which thankfully, only took 10 minutes. Still three minutes to spare. He went inside after a few deep breaths to calm himself down. "Hey Bjorgman, ho- what happened to you?" Eugene asked as soon as he saw Kristoff enter. Kristoff had noticeable bags under his eyes and his sleepless state. "I didn't sleep well last night," he yawned. "Obviously. You look like a hobo," Eugene chuckled. Kristoff stuck his middle finger up at him. "Take a seat while we wait for this guy," Eugene said, sliding a chair out for him. Kristoff took the seat gratefully, blinking his eyes and willing them to stay open. But when the bell rang signaling that the door opened, all sleepiness that Kristoff had was shooed away. His stomach churned in disgust and he was breathing in deeply, hoping to control the pure anger and hatred he was feeling right now.
"Hello Kristoff. Hello Eugene," Hans greeted. Eugene saluted him while leaning on a nearby wall and Kristoff just glared at him. "Sit down," Eugene said. Hans sat down across from Kristoff. "Can I get you anything?" Eugene offered. "No, I'm fine, thank you," Hans said in a regal tone. It made Kristoff just want to stand up and hit him as hard as he had hit Eugene before. But he kept his restraint. They stayed in a rather awkward silence for a little, while Kristoff was thinking how he should bring up the subject.
"Well men, I believe you wanted to see me for a reason, am I right?" Hans broke the silence, leaning back on his chair and crossing his arms. Kristoff sighed loudly and began. "Look, Hans, we know about your...secret," Kristoff started, as calmly as he could. Hans shrugged, "I have no secrets."
Kristoff could feel his patience begin to wear thin and they had just started talking. The audacity the man had to lie like that made Kristoff's anger grow. "Look we know about the other girl."
"What other girl?" Hans asked innocently, his face showing confusion. "No wonder this guy's in the Broadway business. He's a hell of an actor!" Kristoff thought to himself. "Hans, stop lying," Kristoff tried to hold on to the little bit of restraint he had. "How can I lie about what is not true already?" Hans asked.
Kristoff took a deep breath and held it in for a few moments, trying not to reach across and beat the man senseless. "Hans," Kristoff said in serious tone, "Me and Eugene saw you last night at the club in Manhattan...tongue wrestling with another chick.
Hans raised an eyebrow in surprise and was about to say something else before he stopped, closed his mouth and sighed. "So, you two followed me to Manhattan?"
"No. We went there for a while and we saw you. We didn't even know that you hung out at clubs," Kristoff stated honestly.
Hans' eyes went back and forth between Kristoff and Eugene, not very sure what to say. It had taken him by surprise that they had seen him in a public place like that. Well it actually surprised him that Kristoff would've gone to such a place.
"What's this chick's name?" Eugene asked curiously.
"Why does it matter?" Hans asked cautiously.
Eugene shrugged. "Just wondering."
"Belle."
"Belle? Hey, I think know her. Isn't she like French or something like that?"
"Yes."
"Well, it'd be a shame to lose two beauties like Anna and Belle and not keep one right?"
"What are you saying?" Hans asked.
"Look, Hans, we," Kristoff signaled between himself and Eugene,"...we don't want to be the ones to tell Anna about this. We're going to give you the chance to split with Anna and she doesn't have to know about this. Then you could run off with...Belle into the sunset."
Hans looked somewhat surprised at the words that came out of Kristoff's mouth. He cocked his head to the side in disbelief and narrowed his eyes at Kristoff.
"And if I refuse?"
Kristoff shrugged. "Then I guess we have tell Anna."
Hans stayed quiet for a moment, but then he smirked a bit in response. Kristoff studied him not sure what that smirk meant.
"So, this is what you called me here for," Hans muttered as he shook his head.
"Why else would we have asked you to come over? To have a dick measuring contest?" Eugene deadpanned, starting to get a little annoyed.
"If we did, we'd all see how small you are," Hans retorted.
"You filthy mother-"
"Calm down, Eugene," Kristoff said sternly. Eugene mumbled something incoherently, but dropped it.
"And what makes you think that she'll take your word over mine?" Hans challenged, focusing back on Kristoff and leaning in a little closer to the table. Kristoff looked surprised. Was he really trying to do this?
"Because not only did he see it; I did to," Eugene said as-a-matter-of-factly.
Hans snorted. "So you honestly think that she will believe you two?" Hans asked incredously.
"Why wouldn't she?"
Hans began to chuckle. "Because, you, Kristoff, are a hopelessly in love with her."
Kristoff was dumbfounded at this, and for once he didn't know how to respond. How did he know that?
Hans saw this and proceeded, "I've see your love-struck gaze and I also see the jealousy seething within you when I hold her hand or hug her. You're in love with her, but you'll never stand a chance. You know why? Because you're just some diminutive human trash left for everyone else to step on. You're nothing! She is with me because I've been giving her the attention she craves. She is so desperate to find romance and so incredibly stupid, I took the opportunity. With the way she's rising in this business, I jumped on board and now I'm going to get what I deserve; to rule Broadway!"
"Enough!" Kristoff roared as he stood up and slammed his hands on the table. "Listen, you poignant bastard! We caught you! This little game you have going on is over! So either you tell her or we will!"
Eugene came over and forced Kristoff back down on his seat, trying to avoid any further confrontation. Hans watched with a contented smile on face as he knew the burly man was losing control.
Kristoff took a few deep breaths before going back to a calm manner. He gripped onto the edge of the table, his knuckles turning white, as he tried to keep his anger in.
"It's over, Hans," he repeated in his regular voice. Hans stayed quiet for a moment before smiling arrogantly and then he began to laugh. It had started out a chuckle and then grew in to a full-out, hysterical laugh. Kristoff raised in eyebrow. This guy was crazy. He belonged in a looney house.
"Oh-oh Kristoff," Hans said after he finished laughing, " Silly, silly Kristoff." Hans took another moment, this time to think about what he was going to say. An evil smirk grew on his face when he started to speak again, this time slowly "Kristoff, it will be over, when Anna wakes up out of my bed in the morning to make me a sandwich."
"Son of bitch!" Kristoff jumped up again, at the same time Hans did. He reached over the table to choke him, but Eugene got there just in time again and held him back.
"He isn't worth it!" Eugene screamed as he struggled against Kristoff's anger and strength.
Hans stood smirking as he walked to the door to leave. "Well it was nice chatting with you two. I'm off to practice a play with Anna," Hans said mockingly, "Oh and don't worry Kristoff. I'll make sure to hurt her beyond repair. Too-da-loo." With that, Hans opened the door and left.
Seeing that the coast was clear, Eugene let go of Kristoff. Both were panting heavily, and they leaned on the wall to support themselves.
"Y-you got no choice now," Eugene said in between breaths. "You have to tell her."
"She isn't going to believe me so what's the point?" Kristoff said.
"Look, I know she probably won't believe you. And as heartless as this may sound, but if she doesn't believe you then it's going be her problem."
Kristoff looked at Eugene with an expression that said "Seriously?"
"Look, if she believes you, then great. Thank God. But if she doesn't, then it's her fault when she gets hurt. You tried to tell her, but she wouldn't listen," Eugene reasoned. Kristoff hated to admit it, but Eugene did have a point. He needed to tell her, even if she wouldn't trust him.
"Fine. I...I'll do it," Kristoff said reluctantly. Eugene nodded and soon the pizza place opened.
The work day was quiet and surprisingly slow. At the end of the day, Eugene offered to clean and lock up, letting Kristoff go home.
Taking a quick shower and into a pair of basketball shorts and a tee shirt, he then plopped on his bed looking at the ceiling. "What am I going to say to her?" he asked himself. The entire he had asked himself that. Just what would he say, how would he bring the topic up? The ringing of the apartment phone brought him out of his thoughts. He got up and walked to the small kitchen and answered with a tired, "Hello?"
"Hey Kristoff," came a familiar bubbly, happy voice. Kristoff forgot about his tired state. "Oh hey Anna! What's up?"
"Oh nothing. Your cell phone must be off because you didn't answer it."
"What? How could it be-" Kristoff looked at his phone. It didn't have any battery. "Okay, never mind," he said a he plugged it in. "So, uh, how, uhh...," he stammered and trailed off. His head went back to the conversation with Hans and what Eugene had said: You have to tell her.
"Kristoff?" Anna's voice sounded a little nervous.
"Yeah?" he answered. "Are you...are you free tonight?" Anna asked nervously.
"Yes ma'am."
"Cool," Anna sighed before speaking again, "Can you, um, meet me at Juniors?"
"The cheesecake place on Flatbush?" Kristoff asked. Juniors was by far, the oldest and best cheesecake place in all of New York located in Brooklyn. Kristoff really loved their carrot cheesecake. It was also the place where he and Anna had officially became friends. So the place had few good memories for Kristoff.
"Yeah, that's the one."
"Uh, sure."
"Great. I guess I'll see you there then," Anna said, but her voice wasn't in it's usual lively, happy state. Not like when she had greeted him.
"Yeah, I'll see you there," Kristoff said as he hung the phone up. Something didn't sit right with him. Why was Anna's voice so nervous and scared? Kristoff didn't know, but he would soon find out.
Anna was waiting for Kristoff at Juniors, gnawing on her bottom lip. The reason she had called him and asked him to come was because she was going to let him know about her decision. How was she going to bring it up though, was a mystery. She was thinking maybe while they had a slice of cheesecake, and he was enjoying the carrot cheesecake. She was brought out of thoughts when she saw him cross the street.
"Hey Anna," he said, greeting her.
"Hey," she said back. They gave each other a quick hug and they entered he restaurant. The hostess sat them down in the back.
"So...um, why'd you ask me to come here out nowhere?" Kristoff asked as they browsed the menu.
"What? I can't hang out my best friend?" Anna asked teasingly.
She seemed to go back to her regular self. Huh.
"No, it's not that, it's just you usually call a few days before if you want to make plans," Kristoff pointed out. "Well I didn't have anything to do so I called you," Anna said.
Kristoff nodded but he thought back to her voice over the phone. He was about to ask her about it before the waiter came and took their order.
They ordered and didn't talk very much until when the food came. Kristoff began making funny faces and she laughed and she would be her bubbly self and she'd jump up and down in her seat and talk with her mouthful, sending chunks of food flying. Kristoff knew had to tell her about Hans, but he lost any courage he had, when he saw her happy. He just couldn't drop that on her because that make her unhappy whether she believed him or not. Anna, on her part, had forgotten what she was going to tell him. But it quickly came back when the waiter placed their desserts in front of them.
As Kristoff took a piece and stuffed it into his mouth she spoke, "Kristoff?"
"Huh?" he said, swallowing the piece he had.
"I-uh-I need to tell you something."
Kristoff stopped himself when he was about to take another piece of his cheesecake. He didn't like the sound of that. "Um, okay...what is it?"
He saw as Anna fidgeted uncomfortably on her seat and he had this feeling that he didn't know how to describe. A mixture of fear and begging as his heart thudded hard against his chest.
"Um, Anna?"
"Look, um, these past few days have been...difficult to say the least. And well I've made my decision," Anna said nervously.
"Great!" Kristoff said, but that look on her eyes, the uneasiness in her voice was terrifying.
"Actually, in this case not great," Anna said. She looked down at the floor as she couldn't bring herself to meet Kristoff's eyes.
Kristoff sat there, his face expressionless. His heart was pounding impossibly harder against his chest as the meaning of her words sunk in.
You have to tell her.
Eugene's words pounding in his head. She chose Hans. She chose Hans.
It's over when she wake up from my bed to make me a sandwich.
Hans words now swirling around in his head.
"Kristoff?" Anna asked, her face full of concern.
"I, uh, I need, um-" Kristoff stammered.
You have to tell her. Eugene.
She's so incredibly desperate and stupid. Hans.
I need to tell her. Himself.
"Kristoff, please talk to me," Anna sounded like she was on the brink of crying.
"Hans is cheating on you," Kristoff blurted out.
Anna blinked in surprise and all of a sudden her watery eyes were dry again. "Excuse me?"
Kristoff sighed. This wasn't how he planned to tell her. "Hans, he's, uh, he's cheating on you."
A beat passed. Two.
"Okay when I said to talk to me this wasn't what I was expecting," she said, "By the way that's not one of your best jokes. It actually is one of your worst."
"Look, Anna, I'm not lying. I saw him," Kristoff explained.
"Kristoff, stop. This isn't funny."
"Anna-" but he was interrupted by her.
"No. You're lying! Hans would never do that to me!" Anna exclaimed.
"Anna, I know that you don't want to hear it, but someone has to tell you. I saw him last night."
"You're jealous of him," Anna said.
"What? No, Anna I-"
"You're mad that I chose him and now you're trying to make something up?!" Anna accused.
"Anna, I saw him kissing another girl!" Kristoff said as he looked at her in disbelief. Anna had tears beginning to run down her cheeks. She stood up quickly and began walking fast towards the exit of the restaurant.
"Anna, hold up!" he pleads and he desperately stuffs his hand in his pockets to get the money out and he throws onto the table and runs out after her. When he sees her she's getting into a cab.
"Don't talk to me!" Anna snapped.
"Anna!" Kristoff yelled as the cab drives off. He loses sight of it as it mixes with all the other yellow cabs in the streets of Brooklyn.
"I'm not letting him hurt you," he promised under his breath as he walked back to his pick up truck, with his shoulders slumping.
His phone rang when he got to the truck and he looked at the caller ID: Eugene.
He answered with a dejected, "Hello?"
"How'd it go?"
"She said she isn't talking to me."
"Oh. Well, there's one more thing we can try."
"What's that?"
"I know this guy that can expose Hans. He's actually quite the prankster."
Whoo! This was a pretty heart-breaking (I think) chapter at the end. And also, yes Hans' girl was Belle! Kudos to Mgochie for going back in the story (Chapter 8 guys) and to Your Fellow Thespian for guessing every princess in Disney, xD. So here's what I've decided to do for you two as a sort of reward: PM me any one-shot prompt you'd like me to write, and I'll do it.
I'll do a one-shot for anyone who gets this question right: Who's this mystery person Eugene's talking about?
So anyways, leave a review and I'll see y'all for chapter 13 later. Peace!
