Surfing was great, and exactly what I needed to lift my spirits.

While I wasn't nearly as great as Seth said, I was at least able to easily stay on the board.

Seth was a great kid, and I could call him a friend eventually.

We got a lot of down time to talk in between waiting for the next wave, and he seemed really open and friendly, and although he didn't let on, I knew that he knew something was wrong with me. Thankfully he didn't mention anything though, and always kept the conversation light and carefree.

Eventually though, the surfing had to end as the fire was started and the group of La Push residents and Forks High students gathered around logs to hear the ancient stories of the Quileute people.

One of the elder's, Jacob Black's father as Seth informed me, began to tell the stories of the men who could transform into wolves.

The story was fascinating, and I was entranced by every word that came out of the man's mouth.

The "cold ones" were the most interesting to me.

Vampires were my favorite monsters growing up, mostly because they were the only ones that didn't scare me, and the La Push take on vampires gave me chills as Mr. Black told of a vampire coven that came to these lands, eventually striking up a deal with Mr. Black's ancestors.

These "cold ones" would not be attacked by the Quileute's wolf warriors, provided they would never set foot onto the La Push land. They were able to live in cautious peace.

Sadly, I wasn't able to hear the end of the story.

So captivated by the story, I hadn't noticed until now.

Across the fire, sat Bella, next to Jacob.

They seemed normal enough, but I pride myself in my juju vibes and sharp eye.

Jacob's hand was a little too close to Bella's, he himself was a little too close. It was definitely in such a close proximity that a taken girl should find uncomfortable.

Normally I would have shrugged this off as me simply looking too far in to things, but my juju vibes were going crazy, and it was just a little odd that Bella, who was now busy on her phone once again, would put her phone down, and just a few seconds later Jacob would pull out his phone. Both of them also had the stupid lovesick smiles every time they looked at their phones as well.

Thinking upon this, I had realized that Bella was nowhere to be found during this beach day earlier, and neither was Jacob…

Suddenly all the odd looks of distaste and disapproval from Jacob's friends made sense, all the glances the two were receiving from them…

And just like that, all my hate for Bronzey dissipated, and pity came flooding in its place.

It was poor taste for a girl to cheat, we were, after all, supposed to be the perfect combination of classy and sassy.

I vehemently disliked cheaters of all genders (I am, after all, an equal opportunist), but for a girl to do it to a man that so obviously worshipped her, was in even poorer taste.

Shame on Jacob, and shame on her.

'Of course,' I thought, 'it's always the quiet ones…thanks for teaching me that, Hollywood.'

Suddenly the rest of the Quileute legend seemed meaningless and disinterested me. I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could go home and at the same time dreading the ride back.

.

"Bella," I called, immediately after the legends were over, "I really have to go, I'm sorry."

"Oh," Bella caught eyes with Jacob and look of apology flashed across her face, "Okay.."

"Let me just say goodbye to the guys, k? Meet you at the truck," I said, heading over to Mike's group.

"Hey, Dex! We haven't hung out with you this whole time!" Mike complained, "But we did see you surfing, you looked great!"

"Thanks," I asked, completely ignoring Jessica's glare, having bigger fish to fry "I just came to say g'bye, Bella and I are heading out."

"Oh!" Mike exclaimed, "We're heading out, too, why don't you get a ride with us?"

"You know," I started, "that'd be great, let me say a quick g'bye to Seth and grab my bag outta Bella's truck, and I'll meet you guys at Ben's van."

A look of dislike crossed Mike's face at the mention of saying goodbye to Seth, but he nodded in agreement and headed towards the van.

I rolled my eyes at the very thought of Mike being jealous of Seth. One, because I'm not ever going to date Mike, and two, because Seth was fifteen and just an adorable puppy.

I beckoned Seth over, "I'm heading out."

"Aww, so soon?" His face full of disappointment.

"Yeah, I just, I'm pretty tired. It was nice meeting you though, and I hope we hang out again sometime."

"You can always come with Bella," He said, "She's always here."

I filed that information away.

"Eh," I gave a noncommittal shrug, not at all liking the idea because of the discomfort it would bring me, "I'd hate to annoy her with having to cart me along all the time. When I get a car though, yeah I'll totally hang out with you guys." 'probably excluding Jacob,' I added in my head.

"Okay, great, I'll see you later!" I was engulfed into a big hug and a rush of heat followed, I was completely surprised that a kid who hadn't worn a shirt all day could be so warm, but chalked it up to the fire we were sitting by.

"Bye, little one," I called over my shoulder, calling him the name I had taken to calling him while on the waves and getting to know him better.

I headed towards where I knew Bella's car was parked, keeping my steps careful and quiet. I was hoping and not hoping to catch some suspicious activity.

Curiosity certainly does kill the cat sometimes though.

I was hidden behind a tree, and they were shrouded in shadow, but I could still make out the two figures of Bella and Jacob kissing.

I shook my head, and turned back.

"Bella!" I called, far enough away to give her time to step away from the boy and pretend like nothing happened, "Ben is gonna give me a ride, so you're good. You can stay longer if you want to."

My gaze flickered to Jacob and quickly back to Bella.

"Oh, okay," Bella said, thankfully not noticing my glance, "I'll just unlock the truck and you can grab your stuff."

Once I grabbed my back, I slung it over my shoulder, marching right up to Jacob, and shoved my hand at him.

He grabbed back, shaking my hand in a firm grasp, mild surprise showing in his eyes at my stronger-than-necessary handshake.

"Nice to meet you," I looked him dead in the eye, giving the best performance I've probably ever given, looking and sounding cheerful.

"Yeah, you, too," He responded easily.

"Bye, Bella, thanks for the ride," I called over my shoulder and headed towards the van that was closer towards the bonfire and not suspiciously in the dark like Bella's.

.

The car ride had been a long one, having to fake happy conversation with Ben, Jessica, and Conor.

Angela being there would have made it a little bit easier, but my mind was faraway, just like it was now as I sat on my bed staring into nothing.

I couldn't tell Bronzey, there's no way he would even believe me. I wouldn't believe me either.

'Hey, bro, I know we hate each other but your girlfriend's a cheating whore. Yeah, sorrrrrryyyy.'

Oh yeah, that'd go swimmingly.

Besides, what proof did I have? Who would believe the girl that just moved to town? It would be the stranger versus everyone that knew her better than me.

It wasn't my business anyways, I didn't know Bronzey and I barely knew Bella.

In fact, the only thing I knew about Bronzey was that he was a complete ass.

He deserved what he got. He deserved it, right?

A small, tiny, part of my humanity shined through and I felt pity beginning to nag at my secretly-kind heart.

I shook it off, suddenly knowing what to do.

It was the best course of action, and kept me out of the drama that I needed to keep out of this year anyway.

I was going to do nothing.

Just nothing.
