Maximum Ride FF-
I am so sorry for the wait!
Chapter 12-
The rest of the gang stood below us, looking up and waving us down so we circled down.
"So what's the plan?" Ratchet asked and Maya filled him and everyone else in while I just watched the flock with a frown,
"What are they waiting for?" I muttered to myself but surprisingly I got an answer,
"They're probably seeing how we get in, take some tips from us." Kate sneered. I glanced at her before back up at the Flock, the largest female, Max, had stopped and was waving her arms up and pointing to Fang. I sighed and jabbed him lightly with my elbow.
"Max is in need of your attention." I said calmly, jerking my chin to the air. His eyes followed the direction I was pointing to and just looked at Max for a little, she was getting impatient, even I could tell. He looked back at me,
"Come?" I hesitated.
"Ooo! That would piss her off! Go!" Star urged. I looked at her and scowled before nodding. Fang snapped his wings open and took a running start, his wings pushing him into the air while I just jumped straight into the air, shooting up after him. I stayed a little bit behind him so his primary feathers brushed the top of my wings but neither of us noticed. Max glared at me,
"I just need to talk to Fang, leave." She ground out. I shrugged and stayed where I was.
"I listen to him, not you." I said calmly and glanced at Fang as if waiting for him to tell me to do something but he just gave a ghost of a smirked instead.
"Well I'm here, talk." Fang said with an inviting twitch of his hand. Max sent an annoyed look at me but I just glanced towards the facility and twisted my gloves on my hands, scratching at them without thinking. Fang flicked at my hand and I scowled at him before Max finally started talking.
"This mission is extremely important, we can't let anything get messed up because of past differences a—"
"This sound like one of those speeches you practice in front of a mirror, why don't you just come out and ask if we can work together on this?" I cut her off, earning shocked looks from…everyone, I get the feeling no one cuts off Max…ever…Fang recovered first and just looked at Max, waiting for her reply. She opened and closed her mouth about five times before she finally got the syllables out.
"Ah—yah, basically." She finally agreed. Fang gave a small frown and glanced at me, I just shrugged and dropped a little, turning around and catching Maya's attention, asking her, in the signs that Fang showed me how opposed she was of working with the flock. I noticed Max make some kind of annoyed noise like I just learned a huge secret that was not for me, probably did but whatever. I waited for Maya's reply before turning back to Fang with a flat face.
"She said fine as long as they don't get everyone killed, but Star would rather face me in my killer mode." I said plainly.
"Huh, okay then, I guess Star will just have to put up with them, we'll do it." Max nodded and sent a glare at me but Fang kept talking, "As long you plan to workwith all my Gang members." Max frowned, shot an accusatory glare at me, which I flinched at.
"I'm going to go tell everyone else wha—"
"Stay." Fang commanded. I nodded timidly, now watching Fang's wings beat, checking the feather in my hair subconsciously. I watched the wings beat steadily, the tips of the feathers brushing against the main bone of my own so I started to feel a tiny tingle every time they did. I watched without really listening to the conversation so I was surprised when the wing I had been watching so carefully turned. I blinked in confusion and focused on Fang. He jerked his head towards the group so I followed right behind him.
"What happened? I zoned out." I asked over the wind.
"I figured as much, basically we came to a peace treaty, one word against anyone in the gang or the flock and the deal's off, we're back on our own." I nodded and landed easily on the ground.
"So what happened?"
"We're working with them to take down this place, but one insult towards any member of any group the deals off, think of it as a challenge to see who can hold their tongue the longest." Fang explained with a smirk. The rest of the group just looked at each other than back at Fang.
"This entire thing's about Eris isn't it?" Maya deadpanned.
"Don't know what you're talking about." Fang said a little too quickly and I laughed. He shot me an annoyed glare but I just stuck my tongue out at him. His lips curled up into a smile I hadn't seen before, it was a crooked lopsided smile that made me beam. Someone cleared their throat and I looked in the opposite direction, skipping over to Maya and starting a conversation with her about the upcoming attack, completely ignoring the other bird-kids.
"So where's this infamous secret entrance?" Max asked loudly. I glanced at her and pointed to the shrub,
"Under that shrub, people, or erasers, used to use it but they haven't in a while." I said and walked over towards where Fang was, shifting to my land form mid-stride.
"We have a plan?" I asked, he looked at the shrub.
"Don't die? Fang shrugged. I blinked and beamed.
"Works for me!" he rolled his eyes and I smirked, turning away, my tail flicking him under the nose, making his sneeze. I heard him growl but I just flounced away, standing with the rest of the Gang who was basically in a face off against the Flock so I stood to the side, next to Angel, she looked intrigued.
"Judging by those glares I don't think these are thoughts for a young girl to hear." I said casually. She giggled,
"The swears aren't that bad, it's funnier to hear what they wish they could do. Maya wants to rip of Max's wings and force them down her throat, Gazzy wants to drop explosives in Holden's underwear and, the funniest, both Star and Nudge want to shave the other's head and give them wigs made of poo and feathers." I laughed,
"Leave it to those two, you don't seem to mind though, why's that?" she shrugged,
"Because we're all just experiments, I think it's just the whole Fang Max thing that makes it worse, that tension between the leaders makes the rest of the team twitchy, and since Bruce hates you the rest of the gang wants to protect you and Max and everyone wants to protect Bruce so it's a never ending cycle." I whistled,
"Wow, I need to listen to you explain things more, it'll raise my intellectual level." She giggled again and gave me a sweet smile I returned it with my own before it faltered, "You also seem comfortable around me…why's that?" she shrugged,
"Because you're like two people: the you everyone likes and the other you that's scary. Max and the rest of them are seeing past the fun you and only seeing the scary while I like to only see the fun one." I grinned at her,
"Thanks, Angel." She smiled before skipping over to Gazzy while I waited for Fang. He stepped up and stood next to me, I noticed a few of the flock members look at us in shock and their eyes went to Max, who's entire body was stiff. I looked over at Angel.
"What's up with everyone?" I tried to project my thoughts.
"I think they're just surprised because Max and Fang used to stand side-by-side when they were together in the flock, it's like a…'we're both equal leaders' kinda thing I think." Her voice flowed through my mind.I blinked and looked at Fang but he was talking to the Gang.
"You are an amazingly talented little girl." I mentally gasped in awe and she just giggled.
"Eris, let's go." I glanced at Fang curiously, I had no idea what I was doing. He rolled his eyes, amusement peeking out in his eyes and jerked his chin up. I beamed and nodded, shifting forms and spreading my wings, crouching down, about to jump up.
"That way seems so much easier than running, you're going to have to show me how, actually I think you can help Maya and I on a lot of flying techniques." I smirked.
"Being trained does have its advantages." With that I launched straight into the air, wheeling around easily. Fang came up first and I coughed into my fist.
"So…uh…"
"Just stay with me, don't die, and we'll meet up with the others in the central control room. Oh, we're the distraction." An evil smiled curled over my lips and I nodded, cracking my knuckles,
"This is going to be fun." I purred. He looked at me curiously but I looked at the sun and it's positioning to the institute and nodded,
"When do we start distracting?" I asked calmly. He glanced down.
"Now."
"Sweetness."
I flew up and spread my wings as far out as I could, casting a huge shadow over the institute. People came out, after a few seconds, seeing what was going on. I let out an ear-splitting screech and dived straight into the main training yard where most people were, it was like an advanced coliseum. I knocked about twenty over like a feathered bowling ball before falling into a fighting stance, shifting forms with a smirk. Everyone gasped and the general chorus of 'it's the Chimera!' spread through the place but I just let out a whooping scream and started throwing punches, Fang falling in beside me.
I scented the air, figuring out where they others had appeared and sprinted in the opposite direction, screaming and breaking doors, getting people to follow me and ignore the others. I finally ran myself to a supposed dead end and about ten Erasers snarled, stalking forward.
"Prey walking right into our paws, wonderful." One purred. I let out another scream and grabbed two metal bars aver my head, launching myself off the wall, going right over their heads and continuing to run, laughing manically.
"OI!" I shouted, wondering where Fang was.
"OI!" he responded, I looked up and smiled, feeling on a high.
"We need to help anyone?" he nodded and I broke a chain that closed the exit doors so all the erasers and whitecoats were on the other side, trying to get through, a few got impaled but…that's my life, whoops.
We ran through the only entrance open, the one we wanted and skidded to a halt in the control room, almost getting my face bashed in by Ratchet if I hadn't dropped and skidded on my back for about ten feet, staring at the ceiling in horror.
"WATCH IT!" I roared, jumping to me feet.
"Announce yourself!" he shot back. I glared at him but looked at the main computer where Nudge was destroying all the information there was, all their research everything. I swallowed,
"You know we have to physically destroy this place right? With all the workers inside?" The flock stared at me in horror, save Nudge and Angel, but the Gang nodded in agreement.
"Destroy their info all you want if they have the mindset they'll just keep doing it." Kate agreed. I glanced at the two Pyros in the group, both had backpacks. Gazzy shied away, his hands tightening on the straps of his bag. Max looked like she had just proven a huge point,
"So now you're a mass murderer?" she growled.
"Does that count as an insult?" Star asked curiously but I ignored her.
"No I'm just trying to prevent what happened to us to happen to anyone else, besides this is an eraser training and creation camp, get rid of this the eraser count may drop." I said calmly
"But they're still people!" Nudge insisted, still not looking up from the computer.
"They didn't have a choice in this!" Max said with a scowl at me. I rolled my eyes, giving up and losing interest in the argument.
"I don't know how long that can hold them, there may be other entrances." I thought and turned, started walking towards the training area, my forms shifting as I walked, this was a big risk but I don't think there was anyone here who could bring up Liam and push me over the edge.
I stepped into the sunlight without anyone noticing I had left, they were arguing about what I had said. My silver scales shined in the light and I looked at the erasers and whitecoats looking back at me, they had hoisted it up and were starting to get a few erasers under so they could fully pull it off their hinges so everyone could get free. I gave them an evil grin, the tunnel everyone had come in was on the other end of the metal bars and I couldn't have anyone going in there and stopping them so, with a single flick of my claws, the gate closed behind me, just as the erasers got the door completely open, it was like opening a flood gate, Erasers poured out at me and whitecoats screamed to keep me alive but I just hissed and flung myself into the attack. I fought for as long as I could, giving them enough time to get out without anyone getting hurt. My sharp hearing picked up voices from the control room, they were only now noticing I was gone…wow…thanks guys.
"Where's Eris?" Star asked. There was a short silence before three pairs of footsteps came pounding in my direction, skidding to a halt behind the bars.
"Eris!" Maya shouted, rattling the bars. I grinned at her and jumped backwards, bouncing off my hands and kicking an eraser in the face.
"Hey guys!" I panted, "Done in there?"
"Help us open this!" I shook my head,
"I open the gate the Erasers oof can come get you." I stumbled to the side, an eraser had landed a heavy hit on my side but joke's on him! My side is covered in diamond hard scales! He broke his foot. He howled in pain and I smirked, kicking him in the side, my scales hitting his but I heard his shatter, that's like breaking every bone in your body, scales hurt to break!
I backed up a little, facing off with the huge number of Erasers left snarling at me and…now they closed off my escape route. One of the Whitecoats had taken things into his own hands and a steel dome started forming over the roof. I swore and punched an eraser out of the way.
"If you're here I'm guessing Nudge is done, Go!" I commanded.
"No Gang member left behind!" Star snapped and starting lifting the bars but I kicked them back down.
'I'll be fine! GO!" I roared, turning to fight off even more Erasers.
There was a short silence behind me but I didn't look, I felt Fang's eyes staring at me. I ignored him and slashed at an Eraser's face, the skin hissing and turning yellow in seconds under the poison. He howled and dropped. I dodged carefully away from an eraser's claws, I didn't want to get any of their toxin in my system.
I glanced behind me, everyone was still there, looking at Fang to make a decision. In those two seconds I felt nails piece my side. I stumbled and hissed, playing it off so as to not worry anyone.
"C'mon! You guys need to go!" I commanded, stumbling slightly over my own feet, hoping no one noticed.
"Fine. See you at the explosion site." Fang finally said, turned and ran. I smiled sadly, the vision already starting to go black at the edges.
"I'm not going down that easily." I hissed to myself and took two deep breaths when I opened my eyes everything was covered in a thin red film and my body was moving without my consent. I watched as my hands killed and people fell under me, I finally stood in the middle of the ring surrounded by the dead. I tried to calm myself down, taking deep breaths to steady myself and force the monster down.
Right as I was about to shove the insane part of me away I picked up the sound of someone slipping through the open door the erasers had come through and I let my body move towards the person, or thing, with lightening quick speed but I focused on who it was through the red haze and I gasped, forcing my body to shut down, my nails just piercing the surface, a thin line of blood streaming down his throat.
"B-Bruce!"
