Day 9
[Alex's POV:]
The next day, everyone had rushed to the roof for the morning meeting, the excitement to find out who Notte is clear on everyone's expressions. Seriously, Skye just left us hanging last night. How could we not question who the bloody hell Notte is?
When we got there, we found Skye, of course with Notte, sitting on the floor, talking about something. I couldn't quite catch the conversation, but I heard something about ADS-CDN. (That's the main TV network around these parts, by the way.)
"Skyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Alice harped as she ran up to the boss, the curiosity clear in her eyes. "It's tomorrow already! Tell us who Notte is!"
"Geez, calm down, Alice!" Red ordered as she tried to restrain the blonde.
Skye gave a sigh. "It's alright, Red…I'm sure you all had trouble sleeping, since I left you all curious. I suppose I'll tell you about Notte now."
"I can introduce myself, imouto." said Notte with a smile, though it disappeared the moment she turned to us. "My name is Xeres, Xeres Soriano. As I've said before, I'm the secret Guardian who isn't to come into action unless necessary."
"Onee-chan is in college, so her schedule is much more demanding than ours. That's why I can't call her into the game unless I really need to…Well, partially." Skye added with a shrug. I raised a brow.
"Partially? What do you mean?"
Skye nodded. "The other reason is that White-tan doesn't like her." Cerise spoke up. "Oh yeah…Why does he not like her anyway? He was even growling slightly when he saw her last night."
Xeres raised a brow then. She seemed surprised that we didn't know the reason for White-tan's hatred of her. "You don't know why White-tan is so resentful of me? I thought you were imouto's Guardians?"
"What do you mean by that?" asked Red, slightly agitated.
"Shouldn't you know about what White-tan does to imouto?" Xeres crossed her arms then, her frown deepening into a scowl. "If you're really her Guardians, then you should know. Protecting her should be your number one priority."
"We DO protect her!" Ren protested, fists clenching at her sides, "You don't know the things we've given up for her! We're good Guardians! We protect her from our enemies, and so help me, we do our jobs well!" she said as she glared up at Xeres.
A half-chuckle escaped Xeres' lips. "Oh? Is that so? Tell me then, why don't you know of what White-tan does to her?" Her brown eyes (the black irises she had last night were contacts, I guess) scanned our faces, glare boring into our souls. "You protect her from enemies, I'll assume that true. However, you can't protect her from White-tan." She shook her head, "You're not as good Guardians as you say."
Alisa narrowed her eyes. "We don't need to protect her from White-tan! He's our benefactor! If anything, he protects her too! What do you have against him?!"
"Everything." The oldest Guardian shot back dully, "You really don't know anything, do you? Such sad little Guardians…It's pitiful." She then turned to Skye, "I'm sorry that I left you with this bunch, imouto. They can't protect you well enough."
"O-onee-chan…"
"What would you know about being a Guardian?! You haven't shown yourself until now!" It was Red who shouted this, "You've been hiding all this time, while we did our part to help her reach her goals! What do you know?!"
"I know everything." Xeres then stood and glared down at Red, being a good head taller than our Storm Guardian. "I know of what White-tan does to imouto, and I even know how to protect her from him. I'VE been protecting her from the worst of them all." She smirked, "Also, I've been helping her take over the country from my place. Haven't you been curious about those mysterious murders going around?"
Red backed off, though only a slight bit. "That's…"
"I've been doing much more than you all have. You may have been helping here, but I've been working on a much larger scale, helping imouto's plans to complete way ahead of time." Xeres' eyes were cold as they bore into the younger pair of brown eyes. "When you think about it, I'm a more capable Guardian than you."
Red returned the other's glare with the same intensity then. "Why you…!"
"Alright, enough!" We turned our heads in Skye's direction as she shouted, "I will not have you fighting anymore! You're all MY Guardians, and I will not stand for you fighting and trying to kill one another!" she sighed, "We have enough trouble with the Arcobaleno."
"But Skye—!"
"Enough, Red." I sighed, shaking my head. "We can't have Skye getting mad at us now. Besides, she's right. We need to worry about the Arcobaleno more."
"Tch…" Red glared at Xeres before leaving the roof. The others, equally agitated, followed her. Except Alice, since she was apparently too dense to comprehend what just happened, and myself.
Skye sighed, turning to Xeres. "Onee-chan, that was a tad too much."
"They had to know, imouto. They're pitiful excuses for Guardians."
"You could've been nicer?"
"Nice doesn't sink into their heads for long." Sighing, Xeres helpd the younger raven up, dusting her long, dark blue skirt (she was wearing our school's college-level uniform). "Anyway, you should get to class. I'll get you after class."
"Okay…"
And with that, we all left.
After school…
"So what's the plan now?" asked Red, though she still refused to meet eyes with Xeres.
Skye fastened her mask around her face, "We're going to spend Day 9 at ADS-CDN. We're going to go in there and tell the country of our intentions from there, during the news report." She seemed to laugh a bit, "They'll know of the inescapable hell they're to receive once we take over."
"Sounds fun!" Alice piped.
"Anyway." Skye turned to Xeres, smiling, "Shall you do the honors, Onee-chan?"
Xeres nodded and lit her ring, all of us going up in flames after. Unlike last time, though, we didn't scream like a bunch of sissies.
Taking over ADS-CDN was surprisingly easy. The security is rather lax here. We did as Skye said and took out anyone who tried to stop us, while she and Xeres went to the studio where they were broadcasting the daily news report from.
It only took us about ten minutes to kill off everyone in the building, so the rest of us Guardian rendezvoused at the lobby.
"This sucks." said Red, leaning against the wall as she did so.
"Huh?" Alisa looked up from cleaning her bloodied frying pan to meet eyes with the taller Guardian, "What sucks, Red?"
The Storm only sighed and crossed her arms. "Having to work with Notte…I hate having to work with her."
I raised a brow. "And you hate it because?"
"Have you forgotten about what happened this morning? She's horrible! Plus, she called us horrible Guardians! You expect me to work with an arrogant bitch like that?! Ha!"
"It's not like we can do anything about it." Alice stated, staring in boredom at the pictures of celebrities that lined the glass walls. Well, it was ADS-CDN, and the station was very much filled with advertisements centering around the celebrities contracted under them.
Ren nodded in agreement. "Alice is right. We can't do anything about it. Notte is still Boss' Night Guardian, whether we like it or not. She's still our fellow Guardian, and all we can do is accept and try to work with her."
"Well, I still refuse to accept that!" Red whined, "I don't like her."
"I'm not that fond of her either, but I have no choice but to accept her. She's still one of us." said Cerise, "Boss' orders are absolute too."
"Still…"
"What choice do we have, Tempesta?" I shook my head as I asked this, afterward turning to the TV next to Ren. It was showing TV Patrol, the daily news report, of which was covered in blood and death. "Well, it's time."
Soon enough, Skye's masked face came on the screen.
"Caio, everyone." Skye began, laughing, "I'm the leader of the XIII, Boss." she grinned, "I'm sure most of you have guessed that I'm only a psycho leading a bunch of other crazy people in a craze to kill everyone in the world…but what I want isn't to kill the world. I want to take it over."
The Arcobaleno stared frozen in surprise as they watched the TV, watching as the orangette on the screen spoke.
"That's Boss, right, kora?" asked Colonnello, eyes wide.
Reborn crossed his arms, "So that's why we haven't fought them today…"
Back on the screen, Boss continued to speak.
"I'm here today to tell you that there is only four days left until my group and fully take over this country. Once those four days pass, we will be rid of everyone who can possibly stop us. The world is our surefire win then." She laughed, "Your only hope is the Arcobaleno, the supposed strongest seven people in the world. However, seeing as they haven't done that yet, I guess that means they are unable to do?"
Lal glared hard at the screen, as if it could do anything to faze Boss. "That brat! How dare she?!"
"Calm yourself, Lal." Verde sighed, "I'd expect this kind of behavior from Colonnello, but you?"
"T-tch…"
"Anywhore~ Prepare yourselves, folks! After a few days…Magiging akin ang buong mundo, at wala makakatigil sa akin." The girl let out a heinous laugh before grinning wide as she took out her gun, "Oh, and…To the Arcobaleno? The day draws near. Are you ready?"
And she shot at the camera, killing the live feed and filling the screen with black.
"We need to kill those girls already."Fon stated, fist clenching at his sides.
Uni kept her eyes trained on her floor as she balled her hands into fists as well on her lap, a frown tugging her lips. "…I agree. They have to die."
Mammon kept silent, watching the others from behind uncertain, shadowed eyes. 'Boss has to die…'
[Back with Alex—]
I sighed as I crashed on my bed, exhausted after the attack on ADS-CDN. I sank into my nice, soft bed, hugging my pillow as I did. My parents didn't check in on me at night, so it's alright that I didn't change out of my disguise.
"Well, aren't you excited?"
I didn't bother looking up to face the owner of the voice, even if it sounded as if he were just in front of me. I kept my head down, waving the other off. "Shut up. I had a really tiring day…"
"Hey, just saying." The bed sunk beside me.
"I would rather have nice silence, you know…I want to sleep." I groaned, snuggling closer to my pillows. A chuckle reverberated.
"Fine, fine…I suppose you earned it, little Nebbia." The extra weight on me bed disappeared gradually as I saw an indigo flame through my lidded eyes. "Enjoy your rest now, Alex."
"Yeah, whatever, Tony…" I mumbled before allowing sleep to take me away, knowing that the older Mist Guardian wasn't around to bug me now.
