Prompt #399 from tamingthemuse- Threadbare

Note: From now on most of my tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.

The next hour was a blur. Xander remembered Spike kissing him and then they were in the car dropping Dawn off at the Summer's house he stayed in the car while Spike went in making sure Dawn was all right. The next thing Xander knew was that they were in the crypt and a threadbare blanket was wrapped around him.

"Never seen a vampire go catatonic before," Spike commented. "Should have known if one would it would be you."

Xander's head snapped up and he blinked multiple times. "What happened?"

"You almost killed a human," Spike said. He didn't sound mad anymore.

"He's still alive?" Xander asked. He didn't know which answer he wanted.

Spike shrugged. "As far as I know. Called an ambulance for him. We didn't stick around though." He looked at Xander. "How are you feeling?"

"Embarrassed. Stupid." Xander looked at Spike. "Is Dawn scared of me now? What did Buffy say?"

Spike pulled Xander in close comforting him. "Dawn isn't scared of you. She'd never be scared of you. And Buffy… while she was concerned about how you reacted she was also thankful. You protected her baby sister."

"And what about you?" Xander asked quietly.

"What about me, pet?" Spike asked confused.

Xander looked up at Spike fear in his eyes. "Are you mad at me still?"

Spike sighed. "Yes and no. I understand why you did it but you have to have control of the demon. If you let it have control your soul won't be able to take it. You'll become worse than Angel. I don't want to have to deal with that. I don't want you to have to deal with that."

Xander nodded but didn't say another else.

They both sat there in an uncomfortable silence both thinking about the kiss that happened earlier. Neither knew how to bring it up. Finally Xander had to say something.

"Why did you kiss me?" Xander asked.

"It worked with Dru when she was hysterical," Spike answered.

Xander pulled away. "I was not hysterical! I was upset. There's a difference. A big one!" he said with a huff.

Spike grinned. Xander was cute when he got riled up. "You're adorable," Spike said still smiling.

"Huh?" Xander asked his eyes as wide as saucers. "What did you say?"

"You've got vampire hearing now, you heard what I said." Spike shifted so he could look at Xander. "And I didn't just kiss you to calm you down."

Xander looked confused. "You didn't?"

A soft smile graced Spike's lips. "No. I did it because I wanted to." Before Xander could say anything Spike moved in and placed his lips against Xander's. His shoulders were tense waiting for Xander to pull away from him. To reject him like everyone else had before.

Xander eyes remained open his eyes almost crossing. Spike was kissing him. He never would have imagined in a million years kissing Spike. It wasn't the most unpleasant thing. In fact Xander wrapped his arms around Spike and opened his mouth.

Spike pushed Xander down onto his back and climbed on top of him. Before anything more happened Xander pushed Spike away and sniffed. "Do you smell smoke?"
