Chapter 12

It was still morning in Paris and Richard and Hunt were sitting in a small coffee shop, reminding for the last time their plan to invade the place where Volkov was keeping Alexis. With explosives and weapons, the two stood up, ready. Before Richard entered the tunnel of the mansion to turn off the power, he said seriously:

"Kate, if you're listening, I want you to focus on saving Alexis, and not me if something goes wrong."

Hunt looked at his son, confused, seeing him talking to the air.

"Son, with whom are you talking about? And the plan is going to work!"

"I'm talking to my guardian angel and woman that I love." And Richard waved his hand as he headed for the tunnel.

"Rick, we'll all be alright. I love you." She whispered, her eyes filling with tears from his statement.

Kate passed by Volkov's henchmen, knocked out the two men who were in one of the gates with the help of her training as an angel, reaching the hall full of doors. The most obvious choice was the only one that had a guard outside and Kate knocked him down with a breath of air, crossing the door and finding Alexis sat on a mattress, hugging her knees and crying.

"Alexis, honey... I won't let them hurt you, shhh." Kate knelt beside the girl, stroking her face smeared with tears and letting her smell her scent of cherries so she wouldn't be scary when she would break the door.

Kate was ready to break down the door to get Alexis out, when she felt dizzy again and ended falling to the ground, seeing everything black.

"Kate? Kate, wake up..." The angel opened her eyes slowly, finding Alexis's blue looking worried at her and Kate put a hand to her head, confused.

Kate then noticed two things: She was hadn't her wings and Alexis could see her. Why was she in her human form? And why she felt so weak?

"Alexis, are you okay? Are you hurt?" The woman asked, sitting and being hugged by Alexis, who was crying and denying.

"Nooo... I thought you had died Kate."

"No, sweet." Kate reassured her, hugging her back and kissing the top of her head. "I'm sorry for failing to save you earlier."

But the little girl shook her head, still holding her tightly.

"Where's daddy? And why did these evil men caught me?"

"Lexis, your father is trying to save you. Come on, let's look for anything that can help us to get out of here."

Kate helped Alexis to get up and the two began looking for something to open the door when Kate saw Alexis's hair clip.

"Sweet, lend me your clip." The girl gave her the hair clip and for a few minutes Kate worked on the knob, until she managed to unlock it and smiled to the redhead. "Let's go."
