Wish a happy birthday to bieberbucks13 this chapter is for you! Hope you have a fantastic day! :)
I was woken from my sleep by the calling of my name. I stayed in bed thinking it could wait or maybe I was just dreaming it. But panic sawed through my veins when he mentioned 'Hathaway'. I feared for the worst as I quickly pulled on my clothes. Out in two minutes flat I walked fast with my face composed down the dorm corridors. I turned the corner, opening a door to see Rose with Ms Karp.
Ms Karp looked irritated (likely because Rose refused to tell her why she had called me so urgently) with a sour expression on her pale, age-ridden face. There was a part of her which sent shivers down my back, but I knew her history which made me pity her. Rose looked at me her eyes full of worry; I could tell she was fine and that her fear was over the Princess.
"Lissa." I nodded in response and gave a quick glance at Ms Karp.
I backed down the stairs with Rose in tow. Her silence made me worry more; she was never quiet even after being repeatedly told to 'shut up'. I quickened my pace, Rose's little legs running every three steps to catch up with me.
The Moroi dorm was naturally quite. The bright sun hurt my eyes from being woken just a few moments ago. I almost walked into the Matron. She looked startled and gave a little gasp. I felt awkward for some reason, most likely because I was still half asleep. Thankfully Rose was coming back to her confident, cocky self and spoke for me.
"She's in the bathroom." Rose walked around me and into the Princess' room. She stopped when the Matron went to follow her, by her expression I could tell Rose didn't approve of being followed in. "She's too upset. Let me talk to her alone first." I knew Rose wouldn't take no for an answer and the princess would probably listen to Rose best out of all of us anyway.
"Yes. Give them a minute."
Rose went in leaving me and the Matron alone. I debated whether to start conversation with her but it seemed better to stay silent and wait. A few minutes went by and still there was no news. Worry filled me to the brim, there was something wrong, and it wasn't just boy troubles this time.
"Rose?" I called knocking on the door.
"Just a sec." She called back.
I heard a tap turn on and someone muttering. I looked at the Matron, she signal to go in and once I gave a nod she called out, "We're coming in."
We rushed in. it was awful to see. There was blood just about everywhere. The sink had tried to be cleaned but still had bloodied finger marks staining the basin. I ran to their sides where I caught Lissa's face, covered in blood. Her eyes were blood shot from crying too many tears. They booth looked at me panicked.
"It's not mine, it… it's the rabbit…"she sobbed, Rose held her as she stared past me. I quickly gave her a once over seeing if there was any visible thing wrong with her, she seemed fine.
"What rabbit?" I asked taking a peek behind her not seeing anything, wondering if she was hallucinating, but that wouldn't explain the blood.
She pointed at the trashcan, her fingers shaking. "I cleaned it up. So Natalie wouldn't see." Natalie, her roommate.
I stood up and went to the bin, Rose trailed behind me. Inside was a dead animal, blood soaked through its fur, making it hardly recognisable. Rose quickly looked away looking pale. It was horrible to see, but didn't understand why it was here.
I plucked a few tissues from the bathroom counter and handed them to her. "Tell me what happened." I made my voice soothing as I sat down across from her, with crossed legs to try and be comforting.
"I came back an hour ago. And it was there. Right there in the middle of the floor. Torn apart. It was like it had… exploded." She blew into her tissue, the events probably playing repeatedly in her head – torturing her. "I didn't want Natalie to find it, didn't want to scare her… so I – I cleaned it up. Then I just couldn't… I couldn't go back…" Tears formed in her eyes as she looked away, unable to continue. Poor girl.
"No one should be able to get into those rooms! How is this happening?" The Matron piped up, I almost forgot she was there.
"Do you know who did it?" she pulled out a piece of paper, screwed tightly into a paper ball with blood smeared over the writing. She put it into my hand.
I know what you are. You won't survive being here; I'll make sure of it. Leave now. It's the only way you might live through this.
The matron gasped as Rose's breath quickened. "I'm getting Ellen." The Matron said, Kirova. I didn't complain, it was probably for the best. She'd find out eventually.
"Tell her we'll be at the clinic." I said looking back at Lissa, curled up with her arms cradling her legs. "You should lie down."
"Come on, Liss. Let's get you out of here." Rose said she had a smile on her face, trying to sooth the Princess.
The Princess was slow at first, still damaged by what she had just experienced. Rose kept a tight hold of her arm as I lead the way. The clinic wasn't far, deliberately so as Moroi in need could quickly be seen. There was just one nurse in the clinic; she got up in a hurry to help the Princess, even offering to get a doctor.
"She just needs to rest." I insisted.
The Princess lay down on the bed; she looked like an empty body waiting to be taken by death. Her face emotionless even her blonde hair seemed duller. She was still covered in dried blood, but that was quickly sponged away by the nurse.
Kirova quickly came, she asked the same things I did but with a more forceful tone. She didn't look at the Princess too desperate to understand. Rose didn't approve.
"Leave her alone! Can't you see she doesn't want to talk about it? Let her get some sleep first." Her voice so protective even her body was obstructing their view of the Princess.
"Miss Hathaway, you're out of line as usual. I don't even know what you're doing here."
"Guardian Kirova." I uttered looking at her. "May I have a moment outside?" She nodded and darted for the door.
"Rose alerted me about the Princess. She knew. Let her stay, she's worried about her best friend. Without her I never would have calmed the Princess down."
"Even so she's always out of line. Her tone is unreasonable and she needs to be taught a lesson." Kirova spat.
"She's not doing any harm, please let this slide."
Kirova looked inside through the glass panel. She nodded in a 'very well' headmistress sort of way. Unhappy she didn't get her way.
"You may stay with her for a little while. We'll have janitors do further cleaning and investigation in the bathroom and your room, Miss Dragomir, and then discuss the situation in the morning."
"Don't wake Natalie. I don't want to scare her. I cleaned up everything in the room anyway."
Kirova looked at me; she would definitely send a few janitors in to give it the all clear. We exited to leave the girls alone. I hoped that would be the end to all the drama for tonight.
I woke up remembering all the horror from last night, but quickly put it behind me.
The day seemed to rush past. Practise was quite. I knew all the rumours were slowly eating away at Rose's hard attitude. She couldn't cope with the trauma, the pain and the bitching. It was all too much. But I had to put that aside for practise, it wasn't my job to be a shoulder to cry on. It was more painful that I couldn't be there for her. There was no conversation accept for my instructions. I cut practise short, she did nothing but nod and walk out.
I hated it. I had to do something. I couldn't beat up the bullies, which would get me in as much trouble as it would her. But there was something I could do: to cheer up Rose.
I went out as soon as a few minutes had passed so as not to bump into Rose. I went straight down the corridor and turned a few lefts. I stood outside the Moroi dorms. I knocked on the Princess' door. She answered, blinking a couple of times as she didn't expect me.
"Guardian Belikov?"
"Follow me." I said with my usual Guardian tone. She nodded her head, swiftly closing the door and following me.
I stood the Princess outside one of the fire exit doors. She nodded her head obeying me, she looked as though she knew what I was doing or maybe she was just too tired to understand. I went through the door which wasn't far from Rose's room.
I knocked a couple of times, waiting a few minutes before she opened the door. Her eyes were sore and bloodshot. A look I never expected to see on Rose's face, she'd been crying. Now I really wanted to kick someone's ass.
"Are you okay?" I asked my voice could have broken at that moment but I managed to keep it together.
"It doesn't matter if I am, remember? Is Lissa okay? This will be hard on her."
I didn't answer her question but beckoned her with my finger to follow me. Usually she'd have moaned about not being told or refused to come unless she was informed, but this time she just followed me. We went back down the stairs and I opened the door to where the Princess was.
"Five minutes." I said waiting to smile until she'd left.
I gave them precisely five minutes before I called Rose back, cutting her off mid-sentence, "You've got to get back inside, Rose, before someone finds you."
She looked back at the Princess. The princess said one last thing before retreating and they both returned to their dorms. Leaving me to debate what to do next.
