Ana's P.O.V.

As usual, we didn't talk about what happened. Not that I wanted to. It was embarrassing. I'd been so stupid to let something like that happen, I knew trusting Philip was a terrible idea and yet I did it anyway. And then, as usual, Eric had to come and save me.

I'd even called out for him. Ridiculous. "Hey!" Chris snapped her fingers in front of my face. "You in there?"

"Yeah, sorry." I said softly. "What's up?"

Tris frowned and leaned in closer, "Ana, are you okay? You haven't been showing at training and we've only got a couple days left."

"Yeah," Will whispered. "And Eric made an announcement and said that if any initiate misses training, their ranking will be lowered."

Shrugging, I toyed with a strip of bacon. "So?"

"So," Chris flicked a crumb at my forehead. "Even though he's in love with you, he'll still lower your ranking. He's already dropped you to third."

I tossed a bigger crumb back at her and shook my head, "One, he's not in love with me. And two, I don't care."

"Well you should. Ana, please, you're one of the strongest initiates. Just two more days of training and then the final test and it's over. We're adults with jobs. We just have to get through three more days." Tris begged.

I swallowed roughly and glanced around the table. Everyone seemed worried...well, everyone except Al. He just looked nervous. His eyes bouncing around everywhere, he kept shifting in his seat and toying with his fingers.

"Fine, I'll come to training." I agreed.

Tris gave me a small smile and nod, "See? Just today and tomorrow."

"Hey, wait!" Chris accused. "None of that showing up for an hour and then leaving shit, you hear me?"

"Yeah, yeah." I rolled my eyes, standing up from the table.

"Wait up!" Chris called from behind me on the track.

Shaking my head, I panted, "Hurry up!"

I kept running down the track, not slowing down and oddly loving the feeling of sweat dripping down my back. "Why," she gasped. "Do you run so fast."

"Why do you run so slow?" I retorted, keeping my pace as she struggled to keep up.

"Last day, how..Jesus, how do you feel?" she panted, gripping my arm to make me stop.

I laced my fingers together behind my head and panted, walking slowly with her. "Fine, I guess. Nervous for the test tomorrow."

"You? Nervous?" she laughed as we walked back inside.

Shrugging, I nodded. Scary to be forced to face your fears, ya know? And we won't know that it's fake. It'll be completely real to us."

Chris frowned, "Yeah, but after tomorrow, we'll be living on our own. No training, no Peter, no Eri-" she cut herself off. "Well...m-maybe with Eric for you..."

"I don't think so, Chris." I smiled as we strode into the cafeteria.

She stopped me and frowned. "Why not? I mean, I know he's an asshole, but Ana you really seem to be into him...and he seems pretty into you too." she shrugged nonchalantly. "And, um, you two kissed so that's maybe something."

"What?!" I snapped as we sat down with the group. "Tris!" I whined.

She gave me a sheepish look and shrugged, "Sorry, I just..thought she should know."

"Where's Al?" I frowned, looking around the room.

Chris bit her lip and leaned into Will, "He's been acting kinda weird lately...he's not doing so good in the rankings."

"Oh," I whispered.

"Fuck this." I grumbled. There was no way I'd be able to sleep. I could barely sleep on normal nights, especially not the night before our final fear test. Sliding from my bed, I slipped on my boots and jacket before shuffling as quietly as I could from the quarters.

It'll be fine.

Or it won't. Maybe you'll do really shitty and end up factionless.

Yeah, thanks. Great.

Look, it's- "Get off of me!" my head snapped up when I heard the scream.

That sounded like..."Tris?!" I yelled, yelled hopefully for a response.

"Ana! Ana help!" she shouted back and I took off sprinting down the halls towards her voice. I stumbled to a stop at the chasm where I saw Peter, Al and some of Peter's asshole friends trying to throw her over the edge.

I stomped up and punched Al in the stomach before kicking his knees out and jumping over him as he cried out and clung to the rail. "Let her go!" I growled, standing ready for someone to attack.

"You sure about this, Stiff?" Peter sneered cracking his knuckles.

I narrowed my eyes, "I've beat you once and I'll do it again."

Suddenly, I was grabbed from behind and forced to the edge, I dug my heels in and leaned all my weight back trying not to fall. "Yeah, but I've got friends this time."

"Coward!" I roared, fighting the man behind me and keeping an eye on Tris. "Just hang on!" I cried to her and she nodded, gripping the rail tightly.

"Hey!" Four's voice boomed and I was dropped instantly, gasping and stumbling back.

"Tris," I rushed forward, avoiding Peter and his friends as they ran past me. Holding out my hands, I groaned and pulled her up, falling onto my ass and panting, my heart beating out of my chest. "You okay?"

She whimpered in response, laying beside me. "Are you two okay?" Four asked, looming over us.

"Yeah, yeah we're okay." I nodded, both of us sitting up before helping each other stand. Suddenly, Four grabbed Tris and hugged her tightly. "Oh..." I blinked, shocked.

Four coughed lightly and stepped back. "I'm glad you're okay, I'll walk you two back to your quarters."

I raised my eyebrows and nodded, giving Tris a look that clearly meant we were going to talk about it later. As we walked down the hall we heard, "Ana!"

Spinning around, I was practically tackled by Eric. "Ah! What the hell?"

"Are you okay?" he demanded, shaking me roughly.

I blinked rapidly, "Not anymore, ow. Why? What happened?"

He let out a sigh and yanked me into a tight hug. "Edward's dead." he admitted, not letting go.

"What happened to him?" Tris breathed.

Eric seemed to remember that Four and Tris were there and jumped away from me. He cleared his throat and a cold look covered his face, "I found him with a knife in his eye."

"Peter," I hissed, shaking my head. I couldn't believe the cowardly prick.

Eric sighed, "I wish, but it wasn't him." he leaned back on his heels. "It was Al. Looks like he finally learned how to use a knife."

"That's sick, Eric." I frowned and he shot me a glare. "Come on, Tris. I don't want to back to the quarters, I can't sleep anyway."
