The Five Marauders, Year Seven
Chapter 12
"She doesn't even like me. She never will. I have no chance with her."
We all exchanged bewildered stares as James continued muttering to himself, "All this time and she never even considered me. She doesn't even like me."
"Prongs, mate," Sirius reached out and placed his hand on James' shoulder. "She's just a girl."
"She's not just a girl!" James exclaimed, jumping up to his feet as if he only just realised he wasn't on his own. "She's Lily Evans!"
With that, he ran upstairs and presumably into his room.
"We'll go talk to him," Remus volunteered. "You know, guy talk."
The boys left, leaving me alone with Deanna.
"What the hell is going on," I wondered.
"He's gone mad, that's what's going on," She replied, shocked. "Seriously, even when we were going out he used to talk about her."
It's true. Deanna and James dated for the longest time, and it was obvious he liked her. However, the fact remained that when we were at the table, in the common room or in class, he always had something to say about Lily.
"Have you seen her hair today? God it looks amazing in a plait."
"Is it me or did Lily's skirt get shorter?"
"Bloody hell she's beautiful."
Deanna hated it, but she didn't say anything since she wanted to be a good girlfriend.
"He can look, but he can't touch." She once told me. Where did I hear that before...
Deanna and I didn't let the James drama ruin our sleepover. We had a bowl of popcorn each, the magical parchment that played muggle movies and a whole lot of horror movies to watch.
Dracula was inaccurate, Exorcist completely un-scary and Jaws just plain funny! But then again, we guess muggles are into stuff like that.
The next morning the two of us woke up just before noon, due to our sleepless night and when we went downstairs, James and Sirius were already there with Remus and Peter no where to be seen.
"Wormtail and Moony went to diagon alley to get the stuff wormtail forgot to buy when we went last week," Sirius explained, almost reading my mind. "And James' parents are at work, so we're alone."
"Cool," I smiled at Sirius, then sat beside James. "How you feeling, Prongsie?"
"I'm fine," he said, and he actually sounded pretty sure of himself. "I didn't think I'd be, but I am."
"Well," I said, not quite sure what to say. I was half expecting tears to be honest. "Well that's pretty great!"
"Jamie, can I speak to you?"
"Sure," I replied, letting Sirius help me up. As we were leaving, I grabbed Deanna and whispered to her, "Stay with James, I'm not convinced that he's alright."
She nodded and took my previous place beside him, engaging him in a completely off topic conversation about quidditch.
Sirius led me the empty kitchen.
"He's not okay. I don't believe it," Sirius admitted the moment the door was shut behind us.
"I don't believe it either, but let's give him a chance. I think he might finally be over her."
Sirius seemed even more doubtful than me, "Yeah, but is he really? He's been planning their wedding since first-year."
He did have a point.
"Well we just have to hope for the best, right?" I smiled gently.
"What did Evans say?" He questioned, without smiling back.
I grinned, "That James is a jerk."
Sirius seemed annoyed as he rolled his eyes.
"God Evans is such a bitch!" He suddenly exclaimed. "What the fuck is wrong with her?"
"That's my best friend you're talking about," I glared, crossing my arms.
Sirius' glare matched mine, "Yeah, well your friend is a bitch! And a slut as well! She leads James on and then-"
"Don't you dare say that about Lily!" I yelled. "She's not a bitch and most definitely not a slut! She never lead James on, so don't make up lies!"
"I don't even know what James saw in her! She'd be a horrible girlfriend!" Sirius continued, his voice rising.
"Oh you mean like you as a boyfriend!"
Sirius froze and looked at me as if he only just realised I was there.
"The hell are you on about?"
"You think you're so cool with your leather jacket and motorbike, showing it all off and flirting with all those whores while I'm watching? You think it feels good seeing the person you love blowing you off for a slut with a big arse?"
Rolling his eyes, Sirius said, "Oh don't acct like that bothers you."
My blood began to boil and my hands curled into fists as I yelled, "Well maybe it does! It bothers me a lot!"
"Then why the fuck did you not tell me!"
"Because I thought that inside that small brain of yours you had enough sense to realise that I'm hurt! I thought that below that big fat ego of yours you had a heart!"
Turning on my heel, I began to storm out of the room, only to be stopped in the doorway by Sirius' words.
"You know what? Screw you, White."
"Screw you too, Black. I'm done with you."
I let the door slam shut behind me.
I should just leave it here, shouldn't I? Mwahahahahaa
Nah, I won't be that mean, especially since you deserve something longer after such a long break.
An hour later, I was still in my room with Deanna hammering at my door.
"Come on, Jay! Please let me in," She begged from behind the locked doors. "You know you can talk about it with me."
"There's nothing to talk about. I'm fine," I tried assuring her, but my cracking voice betrayed me.
"I swear to God if you don't open the door this second I will blast it away!"
Knowing Deanna, she wasn't lying. Wiping my nose with the sleeve of my shirt, I unlocked the door, letting Deanna in.
"Oh sweetie, come here," her pity full expression annoyed me, but I didn't fight her when she pulled me into a hug.
She made me sit on the bed with her arm around me. Through sobs and tears, I managed to re-tell everything that happened.
"Okay, so Sirius is a complete idiot for saying that to you," Deanna began. "However, you should have told him before how you felt."
"You think I don't realise?"
"Jay, I know you do. But honestly, you trust me. Give it a couple days and you will both forget about that and you'll be back to being the all time IT couple, I promise," she stroked my hair and her eyes were convincing and encouraging.
"How do you know?"
She smiled gently, "because over the past few months, BAH! Past two years, you two broke up every few weeks, only to crawl back begging for each other's forgiveness. You two can't last a week without each other!"
Deanna raised a very good point. We seemed to fall out over the simplest things, then two or three days later act as if nothing ever happened.
"Where is he?" I'm not sure why I asked, since I didn't really want to see him right now.
"No idea. He ran out the house after you had that fight and hasn't returned yet. James went after him to make sure he didn't do anything stupid."
I nodded, since there wasn't really anything I could say.
We fell into an awkward silence that lasted too long for either of our liking.
"You know what? It's almost 4..." Deanna began. "Let's go get pimped up, call up the girls and go to the club or something. You can go flirt with some hottie and get your mind off Sirius, huh?"
That was one of the last things I wanted to do right now, but I agreed anyway.
We left a note for the boys (since Remus and Peter were still out, and we had no idea where Sirius and James went off to), saying we won't be back until tomorrow, as Alice said her parents are out so we can all sleep round hers. I allowed Deanna to have her fun, chosing an outfit for me, as wel as do my hair and make up. That was a mistake, since Deanna squeezed me into one of her dresses (which was too small, and therefore almost too tight to walk in), which was not only shorter than anything I owned, but also bright red. The only shoes I owned that matched the dress were open-toed black 5-inch heels which I've never actually worn out. She layered my face with more make-up I've worn for years, not to mention my lips were never such a violent shade of red. She even painted my nails black and curled my dyed hair.
All in all, I looked like a queen of whores, if not worse.
I covered the dress with a black trench coat to retain at least some dignity.
We took the knight bus to Lily's, where Alice and Lils were already waiting.
We sat in Lily's room for a while, waiting until the time was late enough to go clubbing. Deanna told them about Sirius and I's fight, thankfully missing out the things he said about Lily. The girls said pretty much the same things as Deanna: within no time, we'll be back together.
"I know we will," I admitted. "But for now, I just wanna go out and get so wasted that I won't even remember the party."
The girls were dissaproving, but they knew I liked drinking. I liked getting wasted and I liked feeling like I had not a single problem in the world, even though compared to some, I didn't.
"Freak, Vernon is coming over tonight so you better be – oh. You have friends over," Petunia wrinkled her nose from the doorway, glancing at each of us with disgust. She met my eyes and I glared. We didn't have a very good history...
"I'm going to Alice's tonight. No worried," Lily smiled at her sister, but she only turned and left without another word.
"Well that was rude," said Deanna.
"Who cares?" I asked. "Let's go get drunk."
Okay, so I have a quick question. You know in the previous stories, I did quite a lot of POV switches, which I haven't been doing in this story. Do you prefer it when I do chapters from different POVs, or just stick with Jamie? Please let me know!
Also, just a warning, I am going to have a few different POVs in the next chapter, just to try it out. Let me know how you prefer it in your reviews.
Thanks xx
