Berlin, March 1938.
Laxus strolled through his Father's building, which was teeming with soldiers just like him. He pushed the oak door open, walking into Ivan's office. Around the office artwork hung on the walls and statues stood on the floor and surfaces.
"Ah, there you are Laxus." Ivan greeted his son upon his entry. "Would you look at that?" He said, motioning to a painting that hanged on the warm red wall.
"It's very nice." Laxus remarked, he was clearly unimpressed with the artwork and more concerned with why his Father had asked for him.
"It could be yours someday." Ivan placed his arm around his son, who stood slightly taller than him. "You could have any piece of artwork in here…or even in the world."
"I'm sure I could."
"Or any woman."
"I've had plenty of women, why would I want only one?" Laxus walked out of his Father's arm and strolled towards a chair, he dropped down in it; Ivan still trying to talk to his son.
"You know, if you shortened your stay in that awful country you could be promoted." Ivan finally said.
"Is this why I am here?" Laxus raised his eyebrow. "So that you could force me not to go to France?"
"Not forcing you, more like trying to persuade you to stay."
"Well, no matter how much persuading you try to do I'm still going." Laxus sighed at his father's failed attempt.
"But why?" Ivan questioned. "If you stayed you could join the SS, Herr Himmler is quite impressed with you. You could work as a higher up in one of those labour camps in Poland." Laxus stood up from the chair and made his way back to the door.
"But why bother with working in Poland, when I could work in a labour camp in France once we take it." Laxus turned to his Father with a grin.
"You are not going to stay here longer?" Ivan questioned.
"I have some packing to do, my train leaves in 2 hours." Laxus said, before leaving the office; not bothering to say "goodbye" to his father.
….
Laxus was slightly insulted when he found that his grandfather hadn't met him at the stop, he picked up his suitcase and made his way to the centre of Magnolia. It had been a long time since he had been in the town, but still remembered his way to the cafe.
He stared at the old brick building for a few minutes, the windows dirty and grimy. He clenched his jaw as he opened the door, that familiar creak of the old oak squeaking loudly.
"God, he still has to do something about that." Laxus rolled his eyes, and a bell jingled.
"Sorry we're closed for another hour." A female's voice echoed from the dining area to the front. Laxus walked into the dining area to find a white haired woman stocking the bar.
"Where is the manager?" Laxus sighed, he should've known the old man wasn't present.
"He won't be in for another half hour. But, you need to leave we really can't have you in he-" The white haired girl looked up. "You must be Laxus." She walked out from the bar. Laxus observed her, she wore a burgundy dress, that outlined her round breasts perfectly.
"Yes, I'm Laxus." He said, his eyes lingering on her chest. He blinked and shook his head. "Where is my grandfather?"
"Oh, he must be at his cottage still. I could call him if you wish."
"It's fine, just tell me where I'm staying."
"Oh, right…Here I'll take you there." Mira smiled at the man. Mira led him to the back room and up to the one bed room apartment that sat on top of the cafe. Laxus eyed Mira's ass, as they walked up the stairs.
"Here we go." Mira said, turning on the light to the old room and proceeded to walk towards the lamp that sat on the bedside table. "The bathroom is just through that door, you don't have a kitchen but you can pretty much take anything from the cafe; you know seeing how you'll most probably own it someday."
"Oh? Is that what the old man expects from me?" Laxus set down his suit case on the hardwood floor.
"I don't think he really expects anything from you." Mira faced the man. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"Well…I can think of one other thing." Laxus smirked, in less then a second Laxus had Mira backed up against one of the light blue walls, his hand rested on her waist and was slowly making it way south to her ass. Mira stood there in shock.
"Excuse me, but I believe you have the wrong impression of me." Mira said, trying to hold back from slapping the arrogant asshole who was practically pressing her against the wall.
"Really? Playing hard to get?" Laxus said, pressing his face to her neck. "I thought this is what you wanted."
"And what made you think that." Mira smirked slyly and placed her hands on Laxus' shoulder.
"That way you moved your ass when were walking up the stairs gave it away." Laxus said before he started to kiss her neck, he heard a small laugh from the girl he was kissing; that laugh was then followed by nails digging into his shoulder and a knee close to his groin. Mira shoved him to the ground and glared at him.
"Typical of your type to just assume that all French women are whores who will take whatever we can get." Mira stormed past Laxus. "Shove it up your ass." She said before slamming the door, Laxus still sitting on the ground; processing of what had just happened.
…..
"You seemed pissed. What happened?" A voice asked as Mira stormed out of the back room.
"Makarov's grandson is a pig! That's what." Mira bursted, as she approached her friend.
"That bad huh?"
"He's the worst!" she exclaimed. "Some of the American's who passed through were better mannered than he was."
"Mira, is he really that terrible?"
"Erza, would I lie to you?"
"Yes you would, but I'll believe you this time." the redhead took a sip of her tea. The jingle of the door interrupted the two teen girls.
"Is Laxus here yet?" A short man appeared at the door
"Apparently yes, he is." Erza answered, not taking her eyes off Mira.
"You didn't see him?" Makarov asked, stepping further into the cafe.
"No I didn't." Erza smirked. "But Mira did."
"Yes….I did….he's upstairs." Mira bitterly said, glaring at the girl sitting across from her. Makarov didn't say another word to the girls and went directly upstairs.
"I'm going to kill you." Mira spat.
"I'll gladly participate in this." Erza smirked, leaning forward a little. "But not tonight, I have a prior engagement."
"Seeing your American?" Mira asked, her violent presence turning down.
"That's none of your business."
"Whatever, go screw your American. I'm going to finish cleaning glasses." Mira gets up and notices the blue haired man standing at the door, standing there awkwardly.
"Hello Jellal." Mira greeted him as she walked to the bar.
"Hello Mirajane." Jellal answered, waiting for Erza.
"I didn't hear you come in." Erza said, surprised that he was already there.
"Yeah, I came through the back." Jellal said, uncomfortably.
"We can go." Erza said, grabbing her handbag and walking towards him. "I'll see you later tonight Mira."
"Okay, bye Jellal." Mira said to be polite.
"Bye Mirajane." He said. Mira just chuckled to herself, watching the couple leaving the cafe holding hands.
"Young love is really sweet. Isn't it?" An arrogant voice files Mira's ears. She turns to her side to see Laxus, resting against the door frame.
"Don't talk to me." Mira snapped as she turns her head away from him.
"What's your problem she-devil?" Laxus asked, approaching the bar.
"You're my problem." Mira downcast her eyes, to avoid eye contact. "Piss off."
"You seem to be full of yourself for someone who isn't pure."
"And the German's are pure? According to who?Oh yeah, the Fuhrer." Mira rolls her eyes and walks out from behind the bar, purposefully she bumps her shoulder against Laxus aggressively; only to be grabbed on the forearm.
"I wouldn't talk like that, you might one day come to regret those words."
"Don't touch me." Mira rips her arm away from Laxus and strides away.

July 14, 1938
" I want to make an speech!" Makarov yells across the cafe, standing on a chair; speaking to his employees and the few of his regular costumers who still remained at the bar.
"It's truly been an amazing Bastille day and thats all thanks to you. So drinks are on me for the rest of the night. Except you two bastards." Makarov laughed pointing at Macao and Wakaba. "But all jokes aside. I want you all to have a lovely night, and please stay as long as you want." Makarov's small speech was followed by applause, he then lowered himself from the chair; disappearing from Mira's sight at the bar.
Mira stared around the bar, seeing the new girl, Juvia attempting to flirt with Gray while he fought with Natsu, Erza and Jellal sitting the the corner of the cafe; Jellal whispered something into Erza's ear, making her smirk a little. Mira's eyes came to rest on another couple.
Laxus rested against the wall, as a brunette chatted him up. Mira cleaned glasses, not taking her eyes off of the two. The burnette took his hand a began to lead him away from the party. She turned around, her hand still holding Laxus' to reveal herself to be Cana.
"Oh, God." Mira said, almost crushing the glass in her hand.
"Night Mira." Cana winked at Mira as she walked past the bar, Laxus trailing behind her.
"Night she-devil." Laxus smirked at her. Mira just stares at him as he walked by, not wanting to acknowledge his comment. Laxus had been with them for just a little over five months, he had stopped with the German nationalism but was no less of a pig and yet she couldn't stop thinking about the bastard.
…..
Silence filled the interior of Laxus' room, as Cana got dressed. Laxus sat on the edge of the bed, only in his pants.
"Not going to say anything?" Cana asked, hooking her bra back on.
"What is there to say." Laxus said, taking a smoke off of his bed side table and lighting it.
"You know maybe instead of being a total dick about it you go up to her and ask her out for coffee, instead of fucking another girl and calling out a different one's name." Cana snapped.
"I don't need advice from you." he says taking a puff of his cigarette.
"Fuck, you're an ignorant bastard aren't you?" She says, pulling her blue dress back on.
"Fuck off."
"So that's really what your all about huh?" Cana says, picking up her shoes.
"Get out Cana." Laxus snapped at her.
"Well at least you got my name right this time." Cana said before slamming the door on her way out.
"What has the she-devil done to me?" Laxus asked himself, butting out his cigarette; only half smoked.
…..
Why are there kids here?" Laxus questioned as he entered into the cafe, being cleaned by a bunch of teens.
"Oh relax, do you think Mira is a kid?" Makarov questioned his grandson.
"No, obviously not. She's my age." Laxus scoffed.
"You think she's your age?" the old man started to laugh. "She's only 17 years old. These 'kids' are between 15 and 18."
"Wait…that means…how old is Cana?" Laxus asked his grandfather.
"She'll be about 17 as well."
"She's what?"
"Yeah, isn't that a real kick in the balls?" Mira asks, a self satisfied grin crossing her face.
"Oh shut up she-devil." Laxus rolls his eyes at her comment, this caused Makarov to start laughing.
"It's nice to see you two finally getting along."
"We are not!" the young couple snap at the old man.
"Sure whatever you say. Natsu!" Makarov gets distracted by the 16 year old, who was most likely about to start a fire.
"I can't believe he thinks we're getting along." Mirajane come and stands next to Laxus.
"I know, what a stupid notion." Laxus chuckles. He looks down to see the teenager smiling at him. "What?"
"What?" Her smile breaks, as she questions in response.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I wasn't looking at you in any way."
"Oh? Could it be you've developed a thing for me?" Laxus smugly raised an eyebrow at Mira.
"Yeah, keep dreaming aryan boy."
"You'll kiss me one day and then it will be my turn to say no."
"Yeah" Mira scoffed. "Maybe once you Germans successfully occupy a country." Mira rolls her eyes and walked away from him. Laxus chuckled to himself, watching the French girl walk away from him.
"That woman…"
…..
September, 1938
"How did we do tonight?" Laxus asked, loosening his tie.
"Not as good as we should've." Mira sighs as she finishes counting the profits from the night.
"Old man, you need to start charging your regulars." Laxus says to his grandfather as the old man passes by.
"Eh, it's fine. We make enough it doesn't really matter." Makarov shrugs his shoulders.
"Makarov, if by any chance something happens to the town we need some way of keeping the cafe running and so far we're not making the money we need to ensure that." Mira states as she picks the money up from the counter.
"She's right old man, if business doesn't pick up it will be the end of ours."
"Ok, ok I'll take your word for it." Makarov said. "Now, if you'll excuse me I'll be going home to sleep. You want me to wait for you Mira?"
"No, it's okay. Thanks Makarov." Mira smiled at her employer.
"Alright, Laxus once she's done you walk her home." Makarov said as he walks away from the young couple.
"Yeah sure, you just get out of here." Laxus waved off the old man.
"Night you two." Makarov waves goodbye as he leaves the building.
"Goodnight!" Mira calls after him and goes back to dealing with the money.
"You think he'll finally understand what we've been saying to him by next month?" Laxus asks Mira.
"Probably not, but I'll talk to the others and get them to make note of it."
"Sounds good." Laxus nods. "You ready to go soon?"
"Oh, you can go to the apartment. I'll be fine going home by myself."
"Nah, I don't sleep that easily so I'll walk you home."
"Then I'll hurry up." Mira begins to rush her actions, Laxus places his hand over her's in a calm manner.
"It's fine. Take your time." Laxus stared directly at Mira, whose face was slowly becoming a faded pink.
"A-alright." She pulled her hand out from underneath Laxus' and slows down a little; Laxus still watching her.
"Well not that slow. I got shit to do still." Laxus says to mess around with her.
"Yeah? Like what? Fuck some whore?" Mira asks, a smile spreading across her face.
"Very funny." Laxus rolled his eyes as Mira places on her overcoat.
"I thought it was." Mira said turning off lights, and Laxus opened the door. "Oh come on aryan boy, I know somewhere under the grumpy exterior is a somewhat of a sense of humour."
"Are you sure about that?" Laxus said, Mira bounding past him to outside. He closes the door and locks it.
"Pretty sure. At least I think I broke your close-minded self." Mira says, facing him.
"Umm….no you had nothing to do with that." Laxus says as he turns away from the building.
"Oh really then who?" She asks, as Laxus approaches her.
"Well the fact that Bixlow is a Jew has changed that and that Freed is homosexual."
"Freed is?" Mira asks, eyes wide.
"Shit, yeah he is." Laxus says hesitantly, knowing he fucked up.
"Just kidding I already know." Mira sticks her tongue out to him. "I was one of the first people he told, with the exception of Evergreen and Bixlow."
"Well doesn't everyone come to you for confessions." Laxus mocks.
"If you keep up with that attitude I will fight you." Mira threatens.
"What are you going to do? Splash wine in my face and beat me with a baguette?" Laxus laughs.
"Oh look at you being all clever."
"You know for someone who is so small you sure do have a big confidence."
"Yeah well for someone with a tiny brain you sure do have some pretty wise ass remarks." Mira playfully snaps back. Laxus stares at her silently for a few minutes.
"Come here." He finally says. Mira hesitantly takes a step forward.
"I'm not sure if I should trust you."
"Well, if you come here you'll figure it out." Laxus spoke, Mira takes a deep breath and approached the young German. Laxus takes a step towards her and in a flash Mira grabbed his shirt and pulled him to her, making her lips crash onto his. Laxus stood there, eyes open and hands remaining at his sides; totally paralyzed. When Mira pulls away she looks at his stunned face and clears her throat.
"You go back, I can make my way back home." Mira spun around, her left arm extended out during the motion; giving Laxus a chance to grab her forearm and spin her back around to face him.
When he did this he almost immediately pressed his lips to her's again. Both of them ease into it, Laxus doesn't try anything on the girl and Mira wraps her arms around his neck.
Little did the two know that night would be the beginning to their lives together.
