Romantic Attempts
Sora walked the garden of the palace, pacing back and forth, waiting. He scratched his chin as he crossed his arms, impatiently waiting. After his heart opening conversation with Kairi the other morning, he decided he wanted to try and be the best man he could be. Someone who his parents would be proud of in the end, who Kairi could be proud of. Later in the day yesterday, he decided to write a letter and send it out of the Palace to someone who he thought could help him, now all he had to do was wait.
There was tapping against the Palace wall as Sora turned around to watch a loose piece of rock fall from the wall. Sora looked through the hole to see Aladdin smiling on the other side.
"Hey Sora! Never thought I would see you on this side of the wall!"
Sora smiled, happy to see his brother again. "You and me both. I see you got my letter, I was starting to get afraid that you didn't and wouldn't show."
Aladdin laughed. "C'mon Sora, you know me! I always find a way. I'm glad you and Kairi got to see eye to eye."
Sora glared at Aladdin. "Can we not bring that up?" Aladdin mumbled a sorry as Sora shrugged it off. "So, you going to help me out or what?" Aladdin pointed to Sora's feet making him look down, then back up at Aladdin confused. "What?"
Aladdin rolled his eyes. "Look down at your feet."
Sora scrunched up his face and rolled his shoulders. "How the hell is that going to help me with Kairi?"
Aladdin pinched the bridge of his nose agitated. "Sora, you are standing in a garden." Sora looked back down to his feet to see he was standing near all types of flowers. Sora made an 'oh' face as Aladdin laughed. "However, there's more to winning a girl over than just flowers. There's taking her out to eat, paying for the meal, taking her to see the stars and whole bunch of other things."
Sora chuckled. "Where'd you learn all this stuff Aladdin? Couldn't have been with the harlots could it?"
"Hey they are nice girls okay?" Aladdin laughed while pointing his finger defensively at Sora. "Maybe they told me a few things."
"At least I know where all that extra coin has been going."
Sora laughed at Aladdin's stone face as he bit his lip and started to laugh along with him. "Sora, if I ever get on the other side of this wall, I am tackling you." Aladdin wiped the smile off his face as he snapped his fingers to get Sora's attention. "Sora, look." Aladdin pointed as Sora looked over to see Kairi walking around, stopping to talk to the gardeners. Sora watched amused as Kairi spoke with a smile on her face, the gardeners returning the smiles as they talked. One of the gardeners laughed and touched her arm excited, making Kairi return the action.
She was so beautiful in Sora's eyes, so compassionate. How the hell was she created under her father's iron fist? Aladdin coughed gaining Sora's attention. "So are you going to give her flowers or just stare at her the whole time?"
Sora shook his head. "When she stops impressing me is the day I stop staring." Sora bent down to pull a handful of flowers out of the ground, dragging his clamped hand down the stems, getting rid of the dirt and roots. He stood up and looked at his hand that was covered in dirt and wiped it against his pants. Aladdin snickered. "Go get her tiger."
Sora nodded and walked over to Kairi as she finished her conversation with the gardeners. She turned to look over and see him walking over to her, as a soft smile spread to her face. Sora hitched a breath and held it in his throat. God damn she was amazing…
"Hi Sora! What are you doing out here?"
Sora shrugged. "Ah you know, just walking around. Miss the fresh outdoors you know. I mean, the indoor pool is crazy. How it's heated and clean all the time, but it doesn't beat the pool that's outside since it's the same freaking thing." Kairi laughed at his humour; never going to get tired of it. Sora blushed as he started to stutter. "I uh-well…" Kairi stared at Sora waiting. He scratched the back of his head nervous. "I got you these."
He raised the flowers up to his chest, making Kairi look down and smile. "You got these for me?" She looked up at Sora as he saw a flicker of light in her eyes. He nodded still nervous.
"I thought you might like them." Kairi looked at his twitching, nervous smile as her eyes squinted and she rose her eyebrow.
"You picked them from the garden, didn't you?"
Sora shook his head. "Uh, no?" A gardener started shouting as they looked over to see fingers pointed at him angrily. Kairi looked back to him and covered her mouth, attempting to hide her giggle. Sora sighed. "Oh shit." Kairi finally couldn't hide back her laugh as she patted Sora's chest.
"Thank you Sora, they are beautiful."
Sora sighed as Kairi took them. She noticed Sora's sad expression and rested her hand on his cheek. "Hey, I love them."
Sora rolled his shoulders. "Yeah but you see them everyday. I thought, well I tried to surprise you."
"I am surprised. To be honest, I never really glanced at them since I was a little girl. Yeah, I see them every day but I never appreciated them until now. Not until you gave them to me." Kairi leaned forward on her toes and pecked Sora on the lips. "Thank you."
Kairi walked away and headed inside, most likely finding a vase filled with water for them. Sora groaned and walked back over to the hole in the wall where Aladdin was waiting.
He noticed Sora's down beat walk and scoffed. "Why are you upset? That went perfect!"
"Yeah but that's how she always acts and looks at me. I want to knock her off her feet and leave her speechless."
Aladdin shook his head. "Aren't you guys engaged? Congrats by the way."
Sora sighed. "No, not really. It was kind of hinted at that I didn't want to be married. I mean, nothing against her it's just I'm not ready for that. We just started dating."
Aladdin threw up his hands. "Then I take back my congrats. So, what are you guys then besides boyfriend and girlfriend?"
"I guess more like we are promised to each other."
Aladdin thought to himself then looked back to Sora quizzically. "So...engaged but not?"
Sora shrugged. "Help me."
Aladdin sighed. "I have another idea."
Later in the day after the sun set and the moon filled the sky, Sora convinced Kairi to wear a dress for another surprise as he dressed up into the tux he wore the night of Kairi's ball. He waited outside her door until it opened to reveal Kairi in a blue dress that had thin straps over her shoulder as the top of the dress showed off her cleavage, the bottom of the dress slanted down diagonally starting from her left thigh and stopped at her right knee cap. Her auburn hair was put up into a bun with a few strands falling into her face. Sora stared at Kairi in awe as she return the stare. His tux was black with a white collared shirt underneath with a black tie around his neck. The black overcoat of the tux was unbuttoned as his tie was loose around his neck. His hands were stuffed into the pockets of his black slacks. His spiky hair was tamed into a less spiky form, instead of it being all over the place.
Kairi smiled at his blush across his face, unsure if there was a similar redness on hers. "You look very handsome Sora."
Sora smiled back. "You looking gorgeous as ever." Sora held out his arm as Kairi linked her arm through his, as he led her downstairs through the castle.
"So, where are you taking me today." Sora looked at Kairi who was beaming, excited.
Sora laughed. "I can't tell you or else it wouldn't be a surprise."
He led Kairi out the front doors that led outside, and walked towards the garden, where the nightlights on the ground lit up the flowers as if they were illuminating. Kairi gazed at the new sight of the flowers as Sora smiled, leading her to the end of the pathways were a candlelit table was set up with two chairs and a covered plate of food on each side. Kairi stared at the setup amazed as she was led to one of the chairs and sat down as Sora pulled the chair out for her. He walked over to the other side and sat down as Kairi smoothed out her dress.
"Sora, this is absolutely wonderful! How did you do this?"
Sora shrugged. "I had a little help." There was a screech as they looked to see Abu jumping up onto the table. He was wearing a tux styled coat with his red fez on top of his head. He made a noise towards Kairi as he took of his fez and bowed.
Kairi smiled. "Abu!" Abu put his fez back on as he screeched a bit more while pointing to the bottle of Soda on the table and then to the covered food. He then bowed again and motion to the two of them and jumped off the table to lay in the garden. Kairi laughed as she raised her hands. "I'll be honest, I kind of understood what he was saying."
Sora laughed. "I zoned out." He lifted the lid of Kairi's plate and revealed a cooked steak with corn and mashed potatoes underneath. He put the lid on the ground next to the table as he lifted his to reveal the same food and put his lid on the ground next to the other.
"Sora, this smells and looks amazing! Did you make this?"
Sora laughed nervously. "Not exactly. More like the kitchen staff did but I set up the table."
Kairi smiled. "Well, it's very thoughtful. Thank you." She pointed to the bottle of liquid on the table. "What's in there?"
Sora grabbed the bottle and took the cork out. "Well, originally wine was in here but the kitchen staff emptied it and filled it was pepsi because they didn't want us drinking. It was my idea to reuse the bottle because it would look more fancier."
Kairi nodded as Sora filled up her glass and started to fill his glass. "Good idea." They started to eat their food, making small talk in between. As Kairi drank from her glass and put it down, she decided to break the silence.
"Why eat outside?"
Sora had a mouth full of food as he pointed his fork upwards. "To see the stars." He swallowed and continued talking. "I thought you might like looking up at them."
Kairi nodded. "It's nice out." Sora stopped eating to see Kairi looking at the stars and then back to her food. He dropped his silverware and sighed, leaning back against the back of his chair. Kairi stopped eating as well but played with her food with her fork.
"Did I...do something wrong?"
Sora shook his head. "More like am I doing something wrong."
Kairi looked up confused. "What are you talking about?"
Sora shrugged. "I don't have a single clue what I'm doing. I gave you flowers and took you outside underneath the stars to eat a dinner and still it's the same reaction."
Kairi sighed and folded her hands on top of the table. "So it is me."
"No. No it's not." Sora reached across the table and grabbed her hands making Kairi look up. "It's just...what I mean is…" With his other hand he rubbed his eye and laid it back down to join his other. "It's not anything against you, I enjoy your smile and bringing happiness to you but it's not enough. What I am trying to do is surprise you in a way that leaves you speechless and just so astonished that you're just filled to the brim with overwhelming happiness that would make…"
Kairi gripped his hand tightly. "Make what?"
Sora sighed. "Make you never want anything more or anything less. That I could give you that and I would essentially be someone that I myself could be proud of, that my parents would be proud of. I try so hard but it doesn't seem like anything I do makes it better just worse. That's why I went to Aladdin for help."
Kairi let go of Sora's hand, stunning him as she stood up and brought her chair over to his and sat down next to him. "Do you wanna know what I see?" Sora shrugged as she rubbed his forearm.
"I see, someone who is doing their best to achieve what they never had, and he is doing an amazing job. I see someone who has so much care in his heart that he is about to explode if he doesn't spread it to everyone he cares about in time, and the reason it's so hard is because every single moment of every day, it just keeps filling up more and more with a lot more love and care. You accepted me for who I was, not what I was. Even though you hurt me which honestly I don't care about anymore, you cared for me with a thousand sweet kisses. You gave me flowers that I gazed at all day but when they were coming from you I just felt this whole new sensation for the different flowers. Even though you didn't make the food yourself just the effort you put into it is amazing."
She grabbed Sora's face with her hands and turned him to look at her. Her thumbs rubbed against his cheeks as one hands trailed behind his head and softly played with his hair in a soothing way. Sora sighed from the treatment. "Sora, look at you. You despise wearing this suit because it's way too fancy for your taste and restricting to your movement, but you wore it for me. You dressed up for me. Just like I dressed up for you." She smiled as she ran her hands through his hair. "You even styled your hair to make it more presentable but you know what…" She ran both of her hands quickly through his hair making him laugh and grab her wrists stopping her. She laughed seeing his hair even messier than it's original state.
"I like your hair this way." She continued laughing as Sora smiled gigantically.
Sora looked at Kairi happy. "I can't get enough of your laugh or smile."
Kairi sighed as she played with his hands. "Sora, I hope you know that your parents are proud of you no matter what, right?" Sora nodded as he stared at Kairi. Kairi looked at Sora confused. "What?"
"When can you not say something so god damn amazing and be so beautiful?"
Kairi was shocked by his words as her lips twitched upwards into a smile. "When you stop believing you are alone in the world."
Sora shook his head. "That's going to be a long time until that day comes."
Kairi nodded and she tightened her hold on his hands. "Exactly." Sora stared at Kairi as he pulled her by her wrists towards him as his hand shot behind her head to pull her closer as their lips made contact. Kairi's hands moved to the collar of his tux and pulled him closer as she licked the bottom of his lip and he granted her access. Their tongues danced together as Sora pulled Kairi into his lap as she sat sideways due to her dress.
They parted out of the breath, resting their foreheads against each other as Sora's hands untied her hair making it fall to her shoulders as his hands rubbed through her hair. Sora pecked her nose. "I fucking like you so much."
Kairi rubbed her nose against his. "I freaking like you so much."
Sora kissed her gently this time and slowly pulled away laughing. "Will I ever hear you swear?"
Kairi shrugged. "Will I ever hear you say what you want to say?"
He looked at her confused. "What do you mean?" Kairi shook her head brushing it off. She decided to stop pushing on the subject, confident that when the time comes he will say the words. "Nothing. Just don't stop being you."
Sora smiled as he brought Kairi closer as he heard Abu screech and cover his eyes with his small fez. That didn't stop Sora from bringing Kairi back towards him and continuing where they left off. He lifted her bridal style as she laughed against her lips as he carried her back inside and all the way up to her room. He kicked off his shoes and fell onto the bed on top of Kairi as he continued to kiss her. All of a sudden Sora dead weighted on top of her as she started to laugh.
"Sora, what are you doing."
He buried his head into her neck and mumbled. "I'm tired."
"You're tired?" She laughed as Sora leaned on his elbows as he took most of his weight off of her but still not moving. His fingertips ran across her forehead and through her hair, tucking it behind her ear. "Yeah."
Kairi moved on her side as Sora followed suit. Kairi curled close to him, burying her face into his tux jacket. "Should we change?" Sora shook his head as he started to fall asleep. "Thanks for the best day ever Sora." Sora kissed the top of her head and fell asleep. Kairi sighed and grabbed a blanket, placing it over them as she snuggled back into him and fell asleep also.
