Chapter 12: Secrets Revealed

Ten Minutes Later

Odion was carried to the medical center of the blimp, and the Yugi gang followed to make sure that he was alright. From what they understood, Odion was an innocent bystander in Marik's twisted game.

Meanwhile, Souta and Mokuba were killing time in Mokuba's room, while the older siblings were in Seto's sweet.

Seto had begun pacing in the room, trying to gather his thoughts on what had transpired in the last duel. Kagome was sitting on his bed watching him.

"Mind explaining to me about you being involved in this Egyptian prophecy?" Kagome asked Seto. Evil Marik had revealed this information soon after he had been released. As crazy as it sounded, Kagome actually had witnessed stranger thigs. And to be honest, the was starting to feel out of the loop that she was one of the two or so people that didn't know about this prophecy.

"None of it matters," he answered her.

"Well apparently it does since Marik brought it up," Kagome brought it up.

Seto sighed in defeat and briefly explained what Ishizu told him at the museum, regarding how he was some form of Egyptian priest in a past life.

Kagome found it ironic how they both had some form of priesthood in their past lives.

"Why didn't you tell me any of this in the first place?" she asked him.

"I don't believe in any of this stuff anyway. There is no such thing as past life," he admitted to her.

Kagome sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. She couldn't handle keeping the truth form anymore. She looked back up at him and said "Yes, there is Seto."

Seto laughed thinking she was joking, "Sure Kagome, and you know this how?" he asked her expecting her to come up with some religious mumbo jumbo. He never would have expected her answer.

"Because I've seen mine," she told him bluntly.

Seto stopped his pacing to stare at her, "Looks like that destiny nonsense is contagious."

Kagome gave a frustrated grunt, "It's true Seto. The things I've been through… Its stuff that you can't even imagine. I've faced evil spirits, people possessed, legends…and demons," she admitted the final part reluctantly.

Seto laughed at her again. "Kagome do you really think that I'm gullible enough to believe that those type of things exist?"

She quickly came up with the solution, "You want proof?" Kagome asked him.

He raised an eyebrow at her question. "Sure why not," he answered thinking that nothing that she showed him would be all that convincing.

Kagome sat up from the bed and lifted her shirt above her head. Seto slightly blushed at the action and didn't know how to handle what she had just done. She was wearing a rather enticing black bra with purple lace. His thoughts were put on hold when he drank in the sight of Kagome's upper body.

Kagome's body was covered in all types of strange looking scars. Her left upper arm had a crescent shaped form going down and around her elbow. Her side had a big ring formed that looked as if something took a bite out of her. Kagome turned around to show some nail marks that were jabbed in her back upper arms, while back was a mess of unattended scratches.

Seto was horrified seeing his Beloved Blue Eyes in such a state. "Kagome, what happened to you?" he asked completely stunned.

"I told you...My past life," she said simply enough. Kagome wasn't exactly fond of her body anymore but Seto needed to know what exactly to expect from her, "It's a long story."

Seto went to the bed and sat down next to her never taking his eyes off her body. "We have some time."

Kagome sighed and put her blouse back on. Then she began her story, "It all started on my fifteenth birthday."

Thirty minutes later, she finished telling him her story.

Kagome didn't know if Seto would believe her or not. His face remained neutral the whole time she talked about her adventures. There was one thing that she was sure about, after seeing her body, he won't want anything to do with her. "I...I understand why you won't want to be with me anymore. I'll leave you alone now," she began to leave the room only to be stopped by Seto grabbing her arm.

Now his face was showing emotion.

One that showed concern.

"Why wouldn't I want to be with you anymore?" he asked her.

She looked at him as if it were obvious, "Because of my body," she told him. "I know, I'm not very pretty and my body just makes it worse." Kagome lowered her head with her low self-esteem.

Seto lightly grabbed Kagome chin and lifted up. He kissed her lips tenderly and she slowly responded. Seto realized that what she told and showed him took a lot of courage on her part. He needed to show her the same courtesy. "You've always been beautiful to me my Beloved Blue Eyes."

Kagome's eyes widened at the nick name. She couldn't explain it, but it made a delighted chill go up her spine.

"My feelings for you haven't changed," Seto continued, "I'm in love with you, Kagome. And I always will be."

Kagome began to get teary eyed from his confession. 'He-he loves me,' she thought. It took a few moments for Kagome to find her voice again and placed her hand on his cheek, "I love you Seto."

Seto had never been so happy in his life.

Kagome was in love with him.

He took Kagome his arms and embraced her tenderly.

Kagome's story was a lot of information to take in at once.

But none of that mattered now.

Seto was holding the woman he loved in his arms. If destiny did have a part in this, then he was grateful.

"Mr. Kaiba, we are ready for the next duel to commence," Roland said in Seto's communication collar, instantly killing the mood.

Seto reluctantly released Kagome and kissed her one last time.

Despite everything that happened, everyone knew that the tournament had to continue.

"Just this once. Pleeeeeeaaaasssssse," Souta was begging his sister after asking if he could use the slot machine this time. He wanted to have some small contribution to the tournament.

Kagome could only sigh in defeat, "Alright, but just this once."

"Sweet," he cheered.

Joey looked over furiously at Seto, "Hey shouldn't Marik be disqualified for entering with a fake name."

"Wishful thinking Wheeler. This tournament is about skill, not names," Seto replied simply.

"Besides, if we followed that logic then you shouldn't be competing either," Kagome whispered to Joey, not to embarrass him in front of his sister. "Your name was put in illegally by those rare hunters." This reminder made Joey instantly shut up. "Go ahead Souta," she told her brother.

Souta started the machine with extreme delight.

The first number to be picked was number four, Mai Valentine.

Kagome looked at Mai and saw that she was leaving before knowing who she was facing. Joey and Yugi tried to talk to her, but Mai responded to them with indifference. Kagome recognized that type of coldness. It was the kind that she used whenever Inuyasha had insulted her. 'I bet Joey said something to her,' she concluded knowing that there was some sort of spark between the two of them.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the next number was revealed.

Number five.

Mai was going to face Marik Ishtar.

After summoning Evil Marik through the intercom, everyone headed to the dueling arena.

"I don't like this Seto," Kagome told him quietly, not wanting to scare their siblings. "The way Evil Marik is now...Seto, something bad is going to happen."

Seto understood her worries since most of the duelist were now in medical care. "We've come too far already...Besides we never did get to see the real Egyptian God card," he told her.

Kagome let out a frustrated sigh. Truthfully it was too late to do much about it now. 'I just hope things don't get any worse.

A moment later, Evil Marik entered the arena ready to duel Mai Valentine.

"This won't take long," Evil Marik said to no one in particular.

That being said, Kagome reluctantly started the duel.

Because of Joey's insensitive remarks from an earlier conversation, Mai was determined to win this duel with no help from anyone. When Yami Yugi tried to warn her of how Evil Marik planned to summon the Winged Dragon of Ra, she told him to stay out of it.

Impressively, Mai managed to hold her own in the duel, but Evil Marik turned things around when he suddenly turned this Duel Monster's match into a Shadow Game.

"Sis, what's going on?" Souta asked her, sensing that something very evil was surrounding not only the arena but around the blimp.

Kagome was just as confused as her brother. "I don't know," she answered in regret. The miko had never experienced this type of evil sensation in the past, which scared her all the more.

Seto wrapped his arm around her to help her calm down when he noticed her distress.

After Evil Marik brought them all into the Shadow Game, he explained the rules to Mai. For every monster that was destroyed, a memory of the duelist would be erased from their mind.

Mainly, a person in their lives.

Although Mai was distress by the price of losing her monsters, she held up well during the Shadow Game. However, the memories of Tea and Joey were now completely erased from her mind. In fact, when she looked towards the Yugi gang, she couldn't even see them.

Still, Mai continued the duel, and managed to cleverly retrieve the God card right from Evil Marik's deck.

Just when everyone thought that the duel was about to turn into Mai's favor, a shocking secret was discovered.

When Mai summoned the God card the strangest thing appeared on the field.

The monster that Mai summoned, The Winged Dragon of Ra, was simply a big golden orb.

"What the hell is that?" Kagome asked Seto.

Instead of answering her, the oldest Kaiba turned to his brother. "Mokuba, use our satellites to get a view of that card text," Seto ordered him.

Mokuba left to fulfill his brother's wish, and Souta went with him wanting to get away from the evil aura of the Shadow Game.

"The Winged Dragon of Ra can only be used by reading the ancient text on the card," Evil Marik explained in amusement.

"Oh no," Kagome whispered, feeling Mai's distress. If Mai couldn't read the card, then that means that Evil Marik can easily take the card back just by reading the text. 'Mai's soul will be in danger.'

Evil Marik made his move by restraining Mai with two monsters, making her unable to protect herself from The Wing Dragon of Ra's attack.

Joey immediately climbed on to the field trying to save Mai, while Evil Marik recited the chant in order to awaken his God card.

Everyone watched as the giant orb on the field morphed into its true form.

Kagome felt that this God Card was just as powerful, if not more powerful then Obolisk the Tormenter. The miko knew her friends were in trouble and tried to run onto the field, hoping she could shield them from the attack.

"Oh no my dear," Evil Marik told the miko, "You won't interfere." Using his power of the Millennium Rod, Evil Marik forced Kagome back with a psychic attack that held enough force for her to hit the railing on the edge of the blimp, knocking her out.

"KAGOME," Seto screamed as she fell to the ground. He kneeled down and lifted her body into his arms. Kagome was out cold. 'That bastard,' he glared at Evil Marik, 'He'll pay for hurting my Beloved Blue eyes.'

Once the miko was out, Evil Marik declared an attack from the Winged Dragon of Ra onto Mai and Joey.

Luckily, Yami Yugi intervened and shielded his friends from feeling the full attack of the God card. Even though the Millennium Puzzle spirit succeeded in protecting his friends, it wasn't enough to stop Evil Marik from sending Mai's mind into the Shadow Realm.

With the duel now over, Seto lifted Kagome in his arms and left to take her to the medical center.

It was about half way to through the hallway that Kagome woke up. Knowing that she was being carried, she looked up and Seto. 'But why is he carrying me?' she thought before the memory of the recent events flashed into her mind.

"Seto let me go, I got to help Mai," she tried to wiggle from his hold, knowing she had to save Mai.

"Kagome it's too late...Marik got to her" he told her slowly putting her down but not letting her go just in case she lost her balance. Seto didn't fully believe in the Shadow Realm, but he did know that Evil Marik did something terrible to Mai's mind.

His suspicions were confirmed by the look on Kagome's face.

It was a look of despair and failure.

"No," Kagome cried into Seto's chest.

He held her as she cried, knowing how sensitive she was when people got hurt.

"I could have stopped him," she cried out, "I could have spared her."

Seto didn't know what to tell her. What words could comfort her knowing that a person was suffering in their mind with every given second.

All Seto could do was hold Kagome and let her cry.

I know it was a happy but sad chapter. Next time Seto duel and more secrets of the past revealed.

Till then my readers.
