"…You are so right!" Hermione cut Draco off before he could tell them the truth. She glanced at Draco, batting her eyes apologetically. She put her hands over his and felt the hair on the back of her neck prickle with excitement. There was something practically electrifying about touching Draco Malfoy. "I just can't believe it took me this long to open my eyes to what was right in front of me."
"Damn Harry, what will it take you to talk about me like that?" Ginny laughed.
"Would you excuse us just a minute?" Draco said, standing and grabbing Hermione by the hand. Pulling her into the first darkened corridor, he pressed her back to the wall and looked down into those honeyed eyes. "What are we doing? We can't lie to them."
"I know how you feel. I.. I want to tell them, I do, but if Harry knows, so will Ron. This will all be for naught."
Draco's eyes narrowed at the thought of this. Getting close to him meant nothing unless she got something out of it?
Sensing his discomfort, she looked up at him and gently smiled. "I didn't mean it like that, I meant, I really am enjoying this, I just want it to last a little bit longer."
He paused and looked intently at her, faces just inches apart. The tension was palpable. Hermione's breath hitched.
"As you wish, my Lady."
Returning back to the party, they rejoined their table, hands still conjoined.
"Some things couldn't wait, huh?" Harry said, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. "We know how you feel, mate."
"Oi, that was gross Harry. I don't need this!" Hermione laughed and walked away to grab drinks.
Draco's eyes blatantly followed Hermione's slim waist as she walked away.
"That was so not subtle, man," Harry said, "But seriously, I'm glad you are here for her right now. I was a right git after their breakup, just trying to keep peace between friends. But you being there for her, that means everything to her, and us as well. But she is family. And you're not Ron. So don't you dare hurt her, because we will never forgive you for it."
Draco chortled, there was no way he would ever hurt Hermione - Hermione, his closest friend, the woman who gave him a second and third chance, even after punching him in the face as a Third Year. That woman had fire in her soul and kindness in her eyes. There was no way Draco was ever going to let her go.
