"Hi, Ms. Nightshade." Annabeth said while walking up to the counter in the library. "I was wondering if you had any information about the classics club, and past publications that had been written?"

"Well, why would you think that I would know anything about that?" She asked Annabeth. Annabeth was struck by how young she looked. Even though she had graduated high school over 10 years ago, she looked like she could still fit in with a group of students, and no one would really know that she was in her 30's.

"Well, recently we got access to some older publications to use as a reference, and your name was on some of them." Annabeth replied while giving her a sweet, fake smile.

"Well, what do you want to know?" Ms. Nightshade said while getting up from her seat.

"We're particularly curious about the paper that you were involved in during your senior year." Annabeth said while opening her bag. "I have it right here, if you want to look at it." She offered.

"I won't need it. I remember that time quite well. What do you want to know?" She asked Annabeth while walking around the front desk.

"I would like to know more about your former classmate Luke." she stated.

"What is there to know? He's dead. He's been dead for a while now."

"Yes, but do you have any idea about how he died? Or why he was expelled?"

"I don't know about his death that much, but he was expelled for criminal activity. I'm not sure about what kind, but I am pretty sure it involved drugs and fraud."

"Is that why he died?" Annabeth asked eagerly.

She shrugged "Maybe. Who knows? The police never finished his case as far as I know, so he could have been hit by a car for all that it matters now."

"But do you think he was murdered?"

"Oh, for sure. I had known Luke for most of my life at that point, and I always was suspicious of him. There was something about him that just seemed… off." She muttered mostly to herself.

"Mr. Brunner was very disappointed when he heard about the death. He was trying to help Luke. Luke was smart, but very angry. We could all see that there was something that was eating him away. It wasn't good. Then things got worse and he died."

"What about the paper? Who picked the topic for that paper?" Annabeth pressed.

"Oh, Luke did, now that I think about it. That's quite a coincidence actually. But I don't think that he had a girlfriend, or any kind of lover at the time." She said.

"Why are you asking me all of this?"

"Just curious." Annabeth replied while shrugging.

"Well, make sure that you aren't too curious." Ms. Nightshade said while walking back to her seat.

Annabeth walked away from the front desk and over to where she saw Percy and Piper standing by some bookshelves.

"Did you find anything?" She asked them

"Well, we found lots of old papers, and Luke seems to be involved in many of them." Percy said while pulling out a large binder. "Here" He said while handing it to Annabeth. "It's their papers from 2000-2009. He was a senior in 2001, and should have graduated in 2002, so there will be other things in here that he has contributed to."

"I'm pretty sure he was a part of the classics club by the time he was a junior, and they seemed to publish three to four times a year. So, there should be at least 4 other papers in there that he's contributed to." Piper added.

"Not to mention that if we find the papers from 1990-1999 we will be able to find stuff from his freshman and sophomore year as well." Percy said.

'It'll be interesting to read how someone's writing has progressed throughout high school." Annabeth responded. "Where are the others?" She asked.

"Over there, I think." Percy said while pointing to his right. "They said that they were going to look for other things that we could write about for future papers, and to make this one more interesting, if we found more information about this guy."

"You did find more information out about this guy, right?" Piper asked.

"Well, I found some stuff out, but not much. Ms. Nightshade doesn't seem to know that much more than we do, and she was there for part of it."

"So, it sounds like they either kept this scandal very well hidden, or she's lying." Percy said. "And I feel like she would be lying."

"Why do you think that?" Annabeth asked.

"Well, think about it." Percy replied while leaning against a shelf. "A bunch of dumbass high schoolers show up and want to ask you about the death of one of your classmates? If I was her, I wouldn't feel very pressed to share what had happened either."

"It might be a personal thing for her." Piper added. "We don't know this lady like that."

"Do you think she'll tell Mr. Brunner what we've been doing?" Annabeth questioned nervously.

"Maybe, but it's not like we were doing anything illegal, or being a public nuisance, so who cares?" Percy said while shrugging.

"Hey, Annabeth?" Jason said while walking over. "I was just on the phone with my sister, and she went here while Luke did as well."

"Really?" Annabeth exclaimed "Does she know anything?" She asked eagerly.

"Yeah, she knew a lot actually. She said that they were friends, and she helped write some of the papers as well. Her name was on one of the other papers that you had in your stack upstairs."

"Well why didn't you say anything?" Piper asked.

"I didn't think that it was important." Jason muttered. "But she said she would call me later to give more details."

"How old was your sister when this happened?" Annabeth asked.

"She was 16, so she was a year behind Luke. I don't think she continued with the club after he died though. Not that I blame her."

"Happy that you have some leads now, Detective Chase?" Percy asked her as he began to sort through the large binder of papers he took out.

"Hell yeah I am." Annabeth said while walking over to help him out.
