Chapter 12
"Paige, you can't go alone," Phoebe said then Prue showed her the note. She took the note and was thrown into a premonition.
"Henry, it's sunny out today," Jonas said cheerfully, "I have yet to see your wife. Rumors are said that she is searching for you though."
"Don't touch her," Henry growled from inside his cage.
"That's exactly what I plan to do, before I take her powers that is."
"If you hurt her, I swear to-" but Jonas cut him off.
"You're a puny mortal, you can't do anything," Jonas spat, "I knew she was special when I first met her of course. I'll take her powers, then I will kill her."
"Phoebe what did you see?" Prue asked.
"Henry's still alive," she said looking directly at Paige.
"Where were they?" Paige asked.
"I don't know," Phoebe said, "Paige, Jonas wants to take your powers and kill you."
"So does every other demon in the world, what else is new?" Paige asked.
"You're going to give yourself to him. It's what the note says," Prue said, "We're not going to let you go down there again. If you do, we're going with you."
"You can't come with me! Not if I want Henry to live!" Paige said leaving the room orbing to her apartment. The sisters sat looking at the note. They discussed possible ways to find Jonas before Paige could. Paige was as much as an innocent as Henry was. Every half hour Prue sensed to make sure Paige was still at her apartment.
Billie had found out what else Paige planned to do when she found Henry. Like Prue, Piper, and Phoebe she was angry and upset.
"So you were just going to send me back with Henry. What was I supposed to tell your sisters?!"
"That I sacrificed myself to Jonas. I want you to stay at Magic School. You are a teacher there now, you can stay in the dorms with the other teachers like I did when I was headmistress."
"No, Paige, you aren't going back alone," Billie said, "I'm going to come with you."
"Billie, you nearly died," Paige said, "I'm not going to let that happen again. You're going to stay at Magic School, at least till I return. Don't argue with me, you know who will win." She then left the kitchen and went to her room. Billie closed the door to her room and started packing knowing that the whitelighter- witch was right.
Over the next few days Billie moved into Magic School and became a permanent professor. Prue, Piper, and Phoebe tried to convince Paige to stay. Prue spent the evenings alone with Paige, personally trying to convince her to stay. 'We can find Henry together' she would say but Paige would always refer to the letter responding, 'What if he kills him or one of you? Then what?'
Paige was more headstrong than Prue had remembered. This Paige, she realized, was stronger and had grown so much in the past few years. The eldest sister still fought for her to stay, not willing to give up even though Paige seemed to be more stubborn than she was. She didn't know that Paige was pregnant like Piper did.
Piper, used this knowledge to her advantage. She told Paige how she was treated when she was pregnant with Wyatt and Paige said that a demon didn't have her husband.
"Paige, you have a child growing inside of you. If they die, you'll never be able to forgive yourself. I don't want you to go back down there," Piper said, "You know that. It's really dangerous for you to go alone."
"He has Henry Piper," Paige said trying not to cry, "What am I supposed to do? Jonas wants me to come alone, or at least without you three."
"You're going to give yourself up to him," Piper said, "Just like you tried to do several years ago. The only reason you didn't was because we stopped you."
"I'm not going to give myself up to him Piper," Paige said quietly, "When I get Henry to safety, I'm going to kill myself. I'd rather die then let Jonas torture me Piper. He's already tortured me enough and even if I get out of there alive, I won't be the same."
"Stop. Stop talking like this. Paige, you're stronger than this, I know you are."
"Which is why I'm sacrificing myself. I'd rather kill myself then let him get my powers and kill me himself. Or for him to hurt you."
"Paige, don't do this. It's a horrible idea. We're going to stop you Paige. We won't let you do this," Piper said her voice becoming serious and cold. She left the apartment determined to keep her sister safe. Piper told her other sisters of what Paige was planning. She waited to tell them that she was pregnant until they all spoke with her at dinner.
Billie had just finished lecturing for the day and had several papers to grade. She returned to her small office and started working. After six months of teaching she realized she missed school. She had left college to become a full time witch but she wanted to return. She knew though, that she couldn't now. With everything going on with the sisters and Henry it wasn't possible. She worried for Paige, she knew how stubborn she was and was fearful that Paige would win this battle with her sisters and return to the Underworld alone.
Leo stopped by to say goodnight for the evening around eight. He told her there was going to be a big family meeting the following day and invited Bille. She responded that she wasn't family in which he replied that she was, and that every family had their issues once in a while.
While Piper worked on dinner, Phoebe watched Paige, and Prue orbed to check on her charge.
Ember was the same as usual, unhappy that Prue was there. Her whitelighter still had no idea what had happened at the party the other night. Everyone thought it was the work of a demon and she agreed. Prue was surprised to find out that Ember's parents, as well as other parents, were still gone.
"The convention is lasting longer than everyone thought," Ember said to Prue after her work shift, "I don't have anymore info, Prue. You might as well go home."
"I have the replica," Prue said showing her the bracelet. Ember took it and examined it.
"I'm impressed, it looks exactly like it. Do you have the potion too?" she asked her voice full of fear and suspicion. Prue pulled out the small vial that Piper had filled earlier that week. Prue poured it over the bracelet and it easily slipped off the girl's wrist. Ember put on the fake and Prue explained that when she used magic it would look like it was reacting even though it wouldn't be.
"I want to test it first," she said, "You were once a witch, give me a spell to recite or a potion. Something small, that won't be detected by anyone."
"What about using your powers?" Ember was silent. Prue remembered that she didn't know what her powers were. She noticed though that the witch would change her words, say one thing or another. When she first talked about the Riders she said they were witch hunters then later said they weren't.
"You don't have to tell me everything about your life, I don't expect that. When you do, I want the truth." She looked confused at this statement.
"I don't know what my powers are. I can't remember them," she snapped,"I don't plan on having to use them because I don't want to use them. I don't want to be a witch!"
"Being a witch is part of your destiny Ember," Prue said, "It's part of who you are."
"Being who I am is going to get me killed. You being here could get be killed. I trust that this works," she said finally, "Thank you." She handed Prue the old bracelet and the whitelighter stood there shocked.
"You should go. I don't want you to come back to see me. I'm fine on my own." Prue decided she would't be leaving and opened her mouth to argue. When she heard voices outside she orbed home. She turned her attention back to her family, knowing she couldn't do a lot for Ember right now. She turned the bracelet around in her hands several time as she decided what exactly she was going to do.
A/N: How do you think Prue will use the bracelet? Did you enjoy the chapter? Thanks for reading! Please review! Charmed Always- K
