Chapter 12: Realize
Jade opened her eyes and saw a white ceiling. She blinked twice before she managed to gaze around the new place she's in to. She saw a white wall, a white door, a medicine cabinet. So, I'm in the clinic. She continued her eyes and reached the table where she saw someone was there and busy looking at the school handbook. She opened her mouth to say something when someone appeared in front of her face.
"You're awake!"
She shrieked and quickly got up sitting at the edge of the bed far from the person who scared her. She stared at the person and widens her eyes.
"Ruth!"
Ruth giggled. "Yes I am, in flesh." She sat at the side of the bed.
"You scared me." She took a long sighed to calm herself. "What are you doing here?" She moved closer where Ruth was sitting.
"It's the school festival and it is open to everyone." She fixed the hem of her dress and looked at Jade with a fierce look. "I'm upset with you because you didn't invite or tell me about this event."
"I'm not supposed to be here in the event. My friend forced me to be here. Sorry about it." She showed her apologetic smile. "Will you forgive me, my Princess Attitude?"
"No." She crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Not yet." She looked away from Jade.
Jade bit her lower lip and released a brilliant smile. "I'm just thinking of making a pancake tomorrow and pair it with strawberry syrup but-" She paused. "I think I change my mind now."
Ruth stared at her with glimmering eyes. "No, you wouldn't."
Jade knew how to get this girl attention effortlessly. "Well." She sighed and pretended to be sad. "I guess I'll sleep all day tomorrow."
Ruth held her arm tightly. "No, I'm just teasing you." Her eyes were pleading. "Tell me you didn't change your mind with the pancakes."
"Ha! I got you!" Jade proclaimed and her free hand poked Ruth side that made her chuckled.
"You really are a Witch." Ruth said in a cheerful voice. "So, you wouldn't change your mind now."
Jade nodded at her. "I'll make you pancakes tomorrow if your mom allows you."
"Mom will be delighted that her daughter is spending a day with her future daughter-in-law." She was also thrilled for tomorrow.
Jade face turned into an acid. "I really don't like the idea of being her daughter-in-law." She quickly changed her sour face in a delighted face. "But I love the idea of having a cute little sister like you." She pinched Ruth nose.
"You only said that because you haven't SEEN my brother." Ruth bared her sparkling white teeth.
Someone cleared a throat. "I think that was my cue to butt-in."
Jade gazed at the person with a soothe voice. He was leaning at the edge of the table crossed arms, his other hand held a school handbook and he flashed a vivid smile. His smile was infectious that Jade gave him an involuntary smile. "That's your brother?" She whispered not looking at her side.
"Yes!" She nodded proudly. "That's my brother, My Prince Handsome."
"Wow, thank you my dear sister for a wonderful introduction after you stole my spotlight earlier. Remind me later about your reward." He placed the handbook at the table and stood properly.
"Sorry for stealing your spotlight, my dear bother." Ruth jumped out of the bed and walked beside her brother. "Well, introduce yourself." Ruth said with a hand gesture.
"Well." He walked to Jade's direction. "I'm Terrence Brashtone." He held his hand. "It's great to see you in flesh." He grinned at her.
"Nice to meet you in flesh Terrence, I'm Hayley." They shook each other hands. "Why were you here in the clinic?" Jade felt his soft hand.
No doubt he is good looking guy, having a fair skin. Having a square-shaped face, where his wide forehead that complements his hypnotic down turned green eyes that match his heavy brow same color of his dark blonde spiked hair. He has a broken nose but it didn't lessen his good looks, maybe he's always involved in troubles back then. His prominent cheekbones and his attractive thin red lips. He also had two piercing on his left ear.
"I'm here to fill-in for Nurse June. I brought Ruth here to have some fun. You know sibling bonding." Terrence responded.
"Nurse June is a relative of ours." Ruth broke in.
We clawed, we chained, our hearts in vain
We jumped, never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell
A love no one could deny
Terrence gazed at her sister. "Answer that call." He demanded.
"I'll answer it after the chorus." She said and sang the song.
Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you
Terrence looked back at Jade with discomfit look. "Sorry about my little sister. She really likes that song."
Jade chuckled. "It's alright, I also like that song."
I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
I put you high up in the sky
"Push the call button now Ruth, the chorus just ended." Terrence reminded her without looking at her.
Ruth followed. "Hello?"
Terrence sighed in relief and resumed with their conversation. He knit his brow "Hayley? How about Jade? I just heard earlier from the persons who brought you here."
"Oh, my real name is Hayley Jade Meyer." She acknowledged him. She looked away from his captivating green eyes, feeling conscious.
"Well, I guess Jade is use for intimate friends like the red-haired guy." His voice was teasing.
Jade looked at him with knitted brow. "Huh?"
"The guy brought you here. He was so concern about you, it's written all over his face." He confessed but Jade could not believe it. "He called your name so many times with so much care."
She released a fake laugh. "Is your eyesight okay? Maybe you been mistaken about the color of his hair. The last time I know, that guy you're talking about was very furious at me."
"Is that so?" He showed off his infectious smile. "Well, I guess I have a chance then."
Jade chuckled. "Chance huh?" She was flattered that this guy was giving him so much attention.
"Will you?" He bit his lower lip.
"Are you studying here?" Jade changed the topic.
"Changing the subject huh?" He chuckled. "Sorry for being in a rush with you." He's voice soften. "To answer to that question-" He paused for a bit. "Before, I was not interested to stay and to study here but now-" He released a long sighed. "But now I'm having a dilemma." He brushed his hair tensely.
"I understand how you feel. Being away with your family is the hardest thing to do." And she looked at Ruth who was busy talking to someone at her phone.
"Yeah," he paused. "Now that I met you, I should think twice now." And he winked at her.
"Well, I suggest that you follow what you desire not because you met someone or someone forced you to do something that you regret it in the end." Jade explained to him.
"So you regret being here?" Terrence inquired and that question started to echo in her head.
Do I regret being here? She asked herself. Well, I regret not stepping inside the plane but I really hate leaving mom with tears in her eyes. Why did my mom insist to go with me in the airport? Maybe right now, I'm with Mason, in the beach – chilling out under the warm rays of the sun and not here in the clinic where the weather outside was way do different in California. Why mom chose this secluded place for her research? She could just stay in the perimeter where we could visit her anytime that we want. She sighed. But if I went back, I would never meet some of the wonderful people here especially Nessie. In California, I don't have any friends, just Mason and my ex named Clarence. I'm having a problem catching up with the others and sometimes they made fun of me. The people here were so nice, well, make an exception to the one person that despise me. Yeah. You all right – the red- headed guy named Red Wynrick.
She widens her eyes. "Oh!" She remembered what happened to her why she was now here in the clinic.
"Is something wrong?" He held her cheek. "You look pale." He started stroking her cheek with anxiety.
I just kissed my close friend's boyfriend. Not just a smack. She screamed inside her head. Wait! Did I kiss him back? Oh no! I can't remember!
"Hayley, are you alright?" Terrence alarmed her.
"I don't know." She answered back looking through his eyes.
"Do you want to stay here for a while?" He offered.
They heard a loud sound. They all looked at the direction where the loud sound came from. Someone bang the front door real hard, you would think that Incredible Hulk just came in. And there he was the person she was thinking about.
Red frowned. "Nessie asked me to check you if you're okay and fetch you at the same time." He released a fake laugh. "Well, I guess you enjoy a lot being here."
Jade looked at his eyes, he saw anger and something she can't fathom. Why he was so mad? She frowned at him. Maybe they got in to a huge argument. Her face suddenly turned soft. Maybe they broke up because of me. I need to resolve this somehow.
"Are you coming with me or not?" He yelled and Jade snapped from her thought. She blinked for a while.
"Well, silence means staying here, enjoying his filthy hands around you." He moved back and started to walk away from the clinic.
What is he talking about? Jade wondered. She looked at Terrence when she found out that his hand was in her cheek and the other hand was still holding her hand. So what he was talking about.
"He's jealous and ready to explode when hesaw you two in that position." Ruth observed our position and the person who already left. She was now not talking on the phone.
"I'll follow him. I need to patch things up with him and my friend." She slid her hand in Terrence hand. "I need to go." He moved his hand in Jade face and moved backward, so that, Jade could stood up out of the bed. She went to Ruth to give her a hug. "See you later or tomorrow."
"Pancake party?" She whispered.
"Okay, we'll have a party early in the morning." And they both laughed.
"You know, I think Prince Wrath likes you." Ruth admitted.
"No, he doesn't." Jade looked at Ruth and pinched her nose. "I got to go." She stood up and walked on the front door.
She turned around when Terrence called her. "See you around?"
Jade released a genuine smile and walked out the clinic to follow Red. The siblings watched her vanished in the front door when Terrence spoke. "Well, I need to catch things up."
"You got it all right, a lot of catching up to do." She said while holding his hand. "I'm hungry. Can we go now?" Her free hand was holding her tummy.
"Sure pancake. There's no more patient here." Terrence turned the sign "The nurse is in" into "The nurse is out." And they both walked outside the clinic.
0000000
Red was still fuming. He held his both fist tightly, he's ready to punch someone in the face if someone approached him. He was a ticking time bomb ready to explode any minute.
Why am I the one who went there just to see what I don't want to see? Oh yeah. My dear niece insisted me to check her if she's all ready awake and fetch her because it was all my entire fault. He clenched his teeth. Well, as I remember they're the ones who to blame for and not me. I'm also a victim here. Why this happening to me? I know accepting this babysitting will lead me to a big catastrophe. I should have listened to what my inner self said. He closed his eyes to tame himself but the sight at the clinic popped up and he's even angrier than before. I hate her. I really hate her. After what happened to us earlier, and now she let someone touch her. Wait! He shook his head. What am I thinking? I should be happy that she'll be out of my way if she falls in love with that guy. He stopped walking. Fall in love with someone else? What about her blue eyes, which always sparkle with contentment? I always wanted to see myself through them. I always wanted to look to those eyes closer. I can't imagine someone looking at them and her looking to someone filled with love. Oh no! What she had done to me?
He didn't notice that there was someone who was at his side. "I thought you're gone." She was catching her breathe. Red snapped from his thought and looked at the person beside him. He met her gaze and look at each other for a while. All of his emotions earlier quickly washed away.
"What have you done to me?" He quickly whispered.
"Pardon, I didn't catch what you were saying?" Jade said still looking at those golden eyes with something that she can't comprehend what it is.
He quickly pulled away and started to walk away from her. He was relieved that she didn't understand what he was saying. If she did, what will be her reaction or what will be her answer.
"Hey, wait up!" She yelled.
When Red was walking towards the gym he didn't notice a smile forming from his lips. He heard Jade's footsteps following him and telling him to slow down.
"Catch me if you can." He said. Catch me my sapphire. He knitted his brow when he realized what he has thought. Where the heck did that word sapphire popped up? He looked at his shoulder to see how she keeping up to reach him.
"Hey I- look I'm so sorry about what happened earlier." She stopped and took a deep breath.
He stopped and turned around with a confuse face. "What?" Did you regret it? He continued in his thoughts.
She walked closer to him. "Well, I know you're angry at me and any minute you want to punch or do something to hurt me to make your pain away."
Silence filled the air between them. He didn't say anything. He just gazed at her and observed her but not meeting her eyes. He knew that if he met her eyes he won't control his unexplained feelings for her. He heard her heart beaten faster.
She was still walking closer to him. She was waiting for him to say something but she knew he was not going to say something, so she was the one to initiate the conversation.
"S-Sorry for everything, from the first time we saw each other until at this very moment talking to you." She held her hands up as a sign of surrender while walking closer to him. "I take all the blame."
"Stop right there." He said as he noticed that she was a getting closer to him.
Jade stop and put down her hands. She shook her head and started to walk again. "Maybe you'll forgive me if I told you after this event." She paused. "I'll be no longer here and go back where you said I should be."
That was the time Red finally looked at her eyes. He was now drawn in her eyes full of sincerity and care. No! You can't! He voiced out in his mind.
She sighed. "But before I go, I'll make sure that everything will be back to normal the way it should be. Nessie was very important to me and I don't want her to be hurt. I'll talk to her. My I know where she is?"
He frowned. "She's in the gym helping for the last preparation for the dance."
"Thank you." She walked fast leaving him behind.
She reached the gym and started to gaze around looking for a one particular person. She didn't give any impression about the place. All she thought was talking to Nessie and get this over with. She stared back at the door where she came from and her heart beaten even faster when Red followed her inside.
"Nessie!" She turned around and yelled.
No one answered.
"I think she's not here anymore." Red walked fast him and looked around.
She looked at her watch. "It's almost lunch. Maybe she went out with the others."
He walked further away from her and still looked around the place. He took his phone in his pocket and dialed Nessie's number.
"Nessie, where are you?" He was talking now on his phone.
He was quiet for a while and started talking again. "Okay,"
Jade started to ogle at Red's broad back, she just imagined leaning on it and put her arms around his waist. She blinked for a while. What was I thinking! Stop! I have to distract myself.
She decided to glance around the place where the dance will be held. Michelle and her staff did a great job. You wouldn't think that this boring gym will eventually turned into an awesome place. The decorations were well coordinated. They chose the classic look color scheme – gold, silver and black, a sophisticated and classy look. They're lots of silver balloons with star-shaped weights to the ends and hung masks on the walls that showed off the masquerade theme. For the tableware, they're very cohesive with their other decorations like the table cloths that fall within the color scheme of the party. They used black round table cloths, the same color with chairs and matched it with gold napkins and silverwares. On both sides, there's wide tables covered with black cloths, that would be were all the foods will be put. There also a stage with black curtains and won't missed the dance floor. As for the ceiling decorations, they hung printed gold star whirls and place silver beads on the center of each table. There also some chandeliers hanging in the ceiling. She heard a weird sound and looked for it. Red was still in his phone talking to Nessie.
"Yes." He looked over his shoulder to look at her. "She's with me." And he turned back at her.
She gazed at him and accidentally looked up. She saw a chandelier which was about fell under Red's head.
"Red!" She shouted and ran to him.
Red turned around with annoyance with his face. "What is-?"
Before he could continue, Jade pushed him. He was caught off guard, he held her both arms, Jade shrieked and they both fell on the floor. And they both heard pieces of glass that scattered on the floor. Red was lying on his back and Jade was in front of him with closed eyes.
"Jade." She heard a smooth and concern voice in her ears. "Are you alright? Please open your eyes."
She felt something cold caressing her cheek and hand. She thought someone put an ice or something cold in her cheek and hand.
I like how my name sounds like. Please say it again. It sounds like a beautiful music in my ears. It will be my favorite music that I'll repeat over and over again.
"Please, I'm begging you. Open your eyes." The coldness she felt was comforting her.
No, I don't want. If I open my eyes, it might vanish. Please let me stay in this dream for a little while.
Then they heard footsteps coming closer.
"Red, what happened?" Nessie voiced out.
"Jade saved me from that falling chandelier." Red answered.
They looked at the broken pieces on the floor.
"Is Jade hurt?" Nessie asked.
"I don't know. She's unconscious."
"I think she's unconscious, we need to take her to the clinic or call Granddad." Nessie recommended.
"Not in the clinic again, she's going to spend with that guy, again?" Someone was irritated.
She realized that Nessie was the one talking. So, it means it's real. I'm not in the state of delusion. Jade decided to open her eyes. She slowly and blinked twice when she saw Red holding her.
I'm hallucinating, hallucinating, hallucinating. She's kept telling in her mind.
"So you choose the second option?" Nessie asked for confirmation and dialed her granddad's number.
"D-Don't call." Jade finally spoke. "I'm fine."
Red looked at her and their eyes met for a while and Red pulled away and stood up. Without saying a word he left.
"Are you alright?" Nessie held her hand.
"Yeah I-I'm okay." She closed her eyes, sighed hard, and held Nessie's hand and get up.
"Why? Is there something wrong?" Nessie started to get worried at her friend. "Do you want to go to the clinic to make sure your okay?"
She shook her head. "I'm-"
Nessie cut her off. "I apologize, if he didn't say 'thanks you' in return. Please accept my gratitude in Red's part. We owe you."
Jade shook her head. "No, Nessie. I should be the one saying sorry." Liquid was starting to form in her eyes.
Nessie frowned. "Huh?"
"About what happened earlier?" She looked at her eyes. "You are my only friend that I have here in this place. And I don't want to ruin it because of what happened earlier with me and Red."
Nessie was touch with what she just heard and gave Jade a heartwarming hug. "Oh, same here."
Tears fell from Jade's face. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Nessie frowned and first to pull from the embrace. "I don't really understand what you are talking about." She held Jade's arms.
Jade sighed. "I know you're hurt. I decided that after this event, I'll quit and headed back to California."
"Hurt? Me? What are you talking about?" Nessie was very confused.
"It's about you and Red." She was hesitant to say it.
"What about us?" Nessie was pushing Jade to tell her what the fuss all about was.
"Have relationship." She whispered.
"Yes we have relationship." She paused and something popped in her mind. "Oh!"
"I'm really sorry for kissing him in front of you. I don't what you think that I'm a slut or boyfriend-stealer or something." She blurted out in a fast talk.
"Jade, I'm so sorry. There's a big- I mean a really big misunderstand." She chuckled. "I forgot to tell you. I'm so sorry about it."
Jade frowned. "What?"
Nessie gave her an apologetic smile and hug her again. "I'm the one who should say sorry. I didn't know that it will end up this way."
Jade was now the one who was confused. "Huh?"
Nessie pulled from their embrace and looked at her troubled eyes. "I didn't mention you about us, didn't I?"
"It's obvious that you have a relationship." Jade confirmed.
"Yes, but not what you think it is." She chuckled and smiled.
Jade became speechless. She was trying to process what Nessie was saying.
She didn't mention about them, about what? She doesn't have to say anything because what I see is what I get. Just like some typical lovers do. Held each others hands while walking, hugging each other, and looking in each others eyes full of love and care. I don't think everyone missed that.
Nessie snapped her from her reverie. "You think that Red and I have a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship?"
Jade nodded. Nessie started to laugh out loud. "Jade, really?"
"What's funny?" Jade started to fell embarrassed now. "The way he looks at you and same as you look at him."
"Whoa. Hold it right there." Nessie make a hand gesture to stop on what Jade was about to say more. "You really don't understand, do you?"
Jade stared at her without saying a word.
"You know what. You really need to attend the dance. I'm going to make things clear for you. Of course with Red's help." She doesn't want to give it away that easily.
A/N: Sorry again for keeping you all waiting. My sincere apology to you guys. Sorry if this chapter was not as good as the others because I'm having a writer's block. This is the best that I got, so, I hope you still like it.
So many things happened over these past few weeks or month. Peter Fecinelli, who played Dr. Carlisle Cullen, was on Glee show with dark hair and good as ever. Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen has a movie entitled "Tarzan". Fifty Shades of Grey's main cast was in dilemma to do this movie but I think the guy who will was going to play as Christian Grey back-out and the girl was indecisive if she will going to play as Anastasia. Let's hope for the best, that Mark Bomer or my Ian Somerhaulder will be chosen as the leading man.
I bought and watched the Twilight Saga from Twilight until Breaking Dawn Part 2 DVD's. Oh! I also watched Anna Kendrick's (Jessica Stanley in Twilight Saga) movie "Pitch Perfect" and I loved it! I'm also waiting for the next sequel for it. I also watched match airing premiers, so many to mention and it includes 'The Vampire Diaries'. Okay enough of it. See you again for the next chapter.
Hugs and kisses ^_^
