Chapter 12
When Jeremy finally came to his head was pounding and noticed that he was sitting in a chair with his hands bound to them. Suddenly memories before he lost conscious came flooding back to him.
"Jeremy are you alright" a voice sounding like Elena's.
Jeremy looked up still a little disorientated and saw Elena, Damon, and Stefan looking at him worriedly.
"Just a little dizzy, what the hell happened" he asked feeling a pain in his neck.
"It seems that our host stabbed you with a syringe" a voice said, Jeremy turned around and saw that It was Elijah along with Klaus and Rebekah. All around him there were other vampires and what he believed were witches.
"Oh please Elijah no need to be so formal, I say we've gotten to know each other rather well" Evan said entering the room.
"Evan" Jeremy said angrily.
"I knew you would follow me Jeremy, I'm not stupid, I knew you would get suspicious of me and try to see what I was up to" Evan said smirking.
"So you are the one that caused the fire 17 years ago and did captured my friends" Jeremy said more accusingly than questionly.
Evan just smiled and said "Yes it was me it was all me, but believe it wasn't easy, between mystic falls and New Orleans."
"Why don't you tell us why the hell your doing this, we've been stuck in these caves for 17 years we deserve some kind of explanation" Damon said snarling.
Evan just rolled his eyes and said "So impatient."
"You know if it wasn't for this bloody invisible wall I would break every single bone in your body and cut your body into little pieces" Klaus said snarling.
"Well I guess I could tell you, since most of you won't be leaving anytime soon, I need single person in here to complete a ritual."
"What kind of ritual" Stefan asked confused.
"Lets just say a ritual that will increase my powers and immortality" Evan said smirking.
"There's no ritual like that, only spells that slows down aging, it's not possible" one of the witches said in disbelief.
Evan's face lit up and said "I'm no ordinary witch; I'm also a halfa as Jeremy knows."
"What the hell is a halfa" Katherine asked seriously confused.
"Halfas are half vampire and half human, born from a human mother and a vampire father, but in my case a witch for a mother" Evan explained.
Damon scoffed and said "There's no way that's possible, even if I were to believe it how come I never encountered any."
"Because I killed most of them" Evan stated like it wasn't a big deal.
Everyone was shocked by his statement.
"Why would you kill your own kind" Jeremy stated.
Evan sighed and said "I'll guess I'll start from the beginning."
(Flashback Year: 1390 England Evan's POV)
"I wonder what these colors mean" I asked as I showed off my black energy.
My friends and I were currently in the woods hidden away from our town, in order to practice our skills. Besides our mothers, no one else knows that we aren't as normal as we seem, we are part devils. Our mothers had told us, that they were seduced by the devil himself, which is why we have strange powers which have been manifesting themselves since we were little. My friends included Elizabeth, her mother is the town's local seamstress, William, the son of a Duchess, Cassandra, her mother's family is one of the richest families in town, James who also happens to be my best friend, he was left orphan as a baby so he doesn't know who his mother, Michael whose mother was the town's local healer. Then finally there was the lovely Eve, she was one of the most beautiful girls in the whole town. Just like me, she is a common person, we had grown up together as our mothers were best friends, but along the way we both fell in love. Most men in town desired her, but she and I were currently engaged to be married, which also caused a lot of jealousy from the men. Eve was like an angel sent from heaven, with her long brown hair and beautiful green eyes. I couldn't believe she was actually mine.
"Who knows, but they don't seem to harm us" James said throwing his gray energy at him that just passed through me.
I smiled and said "And what would you have done if they actually hurt us, you could have killed me.
James chuckled and said "Don't worry I would've helped you, somewhat."
Everyone laughed.
"It's getting late we must return home soon, we'll practice more next week" Elizabeth said noticing the sun starting to set.
Elizabeth was the unofficial leader of the group, because she was the very first of us to discover what we were. She and her mother were travelling to one of the local villages so her mother can donate clothing to the sick, and on their way back there coach was attacked by the devil. The monster was about to kill Elizabeth when she released her energy and killed the monster. After that Elizabeth's mother was forced to explain to her about her father who she thought had died before her birth. It was Elizabeth that helped the rest of us discover what we were and helped us with practicing our powers.
"So James when are you going to settle down with a lady" I asked as James after we dropped Eve at home.
James rolled his eyes and said "You sound just like my mother, your 23 years of age it's time to get married to a nice young Lady as long as she's rich."
"She's right you know, you don't want people to start talking, I mean people are already starting to talk about why it's taking Eve and I so long to marry" I said.
"Why haven't you guys married yet, you've been engaged for almost a year now" James asked confused.
I sighed and said "My mother has been ill lately and I want to wait until she fully recovers so she can be a part of the wedding, and Eve understands that actually she was the one to suggest putting the wedding off for a while."
"Seriously what is keeping you from finding a lady to settle down with" I asked knowing there was something keeping him from finding someone.
James sighed and said "I guess I just want to marry a woman that I love instead of picking the first lady out, I'm tired of going by society's rules, and if I'm going to get married I want to be with the woman that I love. You got real lucky there Evan engaged to someone that you love and that loves you back, that's the kind of marriage that I want."
"I completely understand where your coming from, Society's rules are awful and judge you based on where you come from and who your parents are, I just hope that one day that our descendants will live in a world where we don't have to fear those kind of things anymore" I explained as we stopped in front of his home.
James softly smiled and said "I hope your right Evan." With that he went inside his home.
"Mother I'm home" I said as I entered my home.
"Mother" I said a little louder when no one responded.
I looked all over downstairs and noticed she wasn't here, so I decided to try the upstairs. I decided to try her room to see if she was asleep.
I quietly opened her door and was shocked by what I saw. My mother was sitting in on her bed with her legs crossed, with what seemed to be over 20 candles around her. Suddenly she started to chant something in a different language, and all the flames on the candles started to rise up fast.
Suddenly my mother's eyes flew open and the flames died down.
"Evan it's not what it looks like" Mother said in shock.
I just looked at her in shock; I couldn't believe my mother was practicing witchcraft, if people found this out my mother would be burn at the stake.
"Your practicing witchcraft" I finally said after a moments silence.
My mother sighed and said "Come here Evan, I think it's time to tell you the truth." That was the exact same thing she said to me when she revealed about me being part devil.
I slowly walked towards the bed and sat next to her.
"Evan my love, I know what I'm about to tell is very shocking, especially after what I told you about your father, but please hear me out" she begged me.
All I could do was nod, because I couldn't find the right words to say,
Mother sighed and said "It's true I do practice witchcraft, just like my mother before me. Witchcraft is something my family has always been born with. Witches are the servants of nature; we must protect the balance of nature at any cost. I betrayed nature when I gave birth to you."
"I don't understand" I asked worried about where she was going with this.
"What normal people call the devils, they are actually vampires. Over 300 hundred years ago a witch had turned her children into vampires; they are immortal and drink the blood of humans. They are an abomination of Nature and witches most hated enemies. I had an affair with one, which resulted in your birth. Nature punished me by making me very ill and weak."
"So I'm not only part vampire" I started to say, but couldn't finish the sentence.
"You're also a witch" mother finished for me.
This couldn't be right; this means that I'm some kind of freak.
"I can't be one right you said that vampires are an abomination of nature, so I couldn't have witch abilities" I said trying to calm myself.
"I do not know my love, I've tried to keep you out of it for so long" Mother said honestly.
I looked at one of the candles, I knew it was a horrible idea, but curiosity got the best of me. I put one of my hands up and concentrated and to my surprise the candle lit up.
"Oh my goodness you are a witch`" Mother said in shock.
"What do I do mother should I tell the others" I asked.
Mother shook her head and gave me a serious look as she looked into my eyes "No no one must find out, I'm afraid of the consequences if anyone finds out about you or me."
Mother got off the bed and had me do the same. She removed what appeared to be a very old book.
"This book is my Grimoire, it is filled with many spells, tomorrow I wish for you to bury it in the caves in the deepest part of the forest, so that neither of us has to be burden with this responsibility" she said referring to the book.
Once she gave me the book I couldn't help, but look through the book. The book was written in some strange language, but for some reason I could read it.
Mother than pulled me into a hugged and said "I am so sorry my love for putting you into this situation, I never wanted this life for you." Then she started to sobbed into me. I can't stand to see my mother cry, even though I'm a little upset for her lying to me, but I can understand she only did it for my own protection. I vowed right then and there to bury this book forever and put witchcraft behind me forever.
The next day I travelled deep into the forest to get to the caves so that I may bury the book forever. When I entered the caves, I quickly dug a hole and buried the book. I sighed relieved that now maybe my life won't get any more crazier.
"Evan" a worried voice called out to me. I immediately turned around and saw the worried look of my beloved Fiancé.
"Eve what are you doing out here, it's not proper for a lady to wander the forest alone" I asked.
Eve rolled her eyes and said "I was worried when you did not show up to my home this morning for our regular stroll through the town, and when I started to go to your house I saw you running through the forest holding some kind of book, so I followed you. Now tell me what is the matter."
"Nothing is wrong I promise" I said hoping it would convince her.
"Something is wrong, I saw you bury that book you were holding why" she asked pressuring the issue.
I didn't know if I should tell her the truth or not, I'm just not sure how well she would handle it.
Eve put her hand to my face and said "I love you Evan, and I know you better than anyone and I know your hiding something, please tell me I promise I won't say a word to anyone."
I sighed realizing I did not have much of a choice.
"Last night I witnessed my mother practicing witchcraft and the book I buried was her spell book" I reluctantly said.
Eve's eyes widened in surprise and her whole face was terrified.
"Oh my god" she said terrified and looked like she was going to run away.
I grabbed Eve's shoulders and said "Promise you won't tell anyone please, I can't lose my mother."
"She's a witch Evan you know what those monsters are capable of" she said.
The moment she called my mother a monster, I slapped her, which surprised her and myself. I regretted it the moment it happened. I could already see a bruise on her cheek. Eve just looked up at me in shocked and looked like she was about to cry.
"I-I'm s-so sorry Eve" I said with pain at in my voice for hurting her.
Eve just backed away and quickly backed and ran away from me.
I debated on going after her, but decided not to because I knew she just needed some alone time. I sighed and sat down on the ground. I knew telling Eve was a bad idea, I just hope she won't tell anyone. As I sat there and reflected on the previous night, the book just kept coming back into my thoughts. I looked at the spot where the book was buried. It couldn't hurt just to read a few pages could it.
I argued mentally with myself for a few minutes, but my curiosity always gets the better of me and I soon found myself digging up the book. When I picked the book up, I felt something come over me like; it was like I was feeling that no one could ever touch me. I took a deep breath and opened the book.
(Hours Later)
I was amazed at how many spells were documented in this book. The spells range from Healing spells to sacrificial rituals. Some of them I was really tempted to try out, but I backed out because I knew it wouldn't be good. When I looked outside I noticed that it was already dark outside, I didn't realize it was that late already. I quickly reburied the book and left the cave I knew mother would start to worry.
When I got back into the city I saw people running through the streets, heading towards town square. Something was wrong really wrong. I saw Mr. Hopkins running with everyone else.
I quickly ran to him and stopped him and asked "Mr. Hopkins what's going on."
Mr. Hopkins looked at me sympathetically "Don't you worry boy once the witch is dead, then we will cleanse you of whatever curse she put on you."
That's when I realized that Eve must of told the town's council.
I quickly ran towards the town square hoping that I wouldn't be too late; I couldn't believe the love of my life would do this to me. When I got to the town square I saw my mother tied around the gallows looking terrified.
"MOTHER" I screamed trying to run to her, but I was being held back by James and William.
"Please Evan it's for the best" James said fighting me as I tried to break free of their hold.
One of the judges came forward and said "Maria Jackson you have been accused of witchcraft, and this council has found you guilty on all charges.
Suddenly the council lit a torch and set my screaming mother ablaze.
"NOOOOOO" I Screamed and cried as I fell to my knees.
I looked around me and saw people cheering as my mother died, and through the crowd I saw a sad looking Eve staring right at me. My agony quickly turned to anger and hatred as I realized that I couldn't trust no one. I quickly got up and ran straight back to the forest.
I ran straight back into the caves and let out a scream of anger, which caused the dimished torches to lit up.
"EVAN" A voice screamed out to me.
I turned around and saw my so called fiancé and friends looking at me worriedly.
"How could you Eve" I snarled at her.
"I was only trying to save you Evan, witches are evil" she said.
This time without caring I slapped Eve even harder than last time, causing her to hit her head on one of the rocks.
"Evan calm down" James said helping a crying Eve back up.
"Eve only did what she thought was right for you" Elizabeth hissed.
I laughed and said "Don't you get it, my mother was a witch and so was her mother before her, don't you understand I'm a witch also and a vampire too."
Everyone looked at me confused and shocked.
I felt a greater power suddenly take over me I closed my eyes and I started to chant one of the spells from the book. Suddenly there was a huge gust of wind surrounding me, and I felt my power increase by the minute.
"EVAN STOP PLEASE" I heard Eve screamed in terrible agony, but I didn't care all, I just kept chanting.
When I stopped chanting the wind stopped, and I never felt more alive than I did in this moment. When I opened my eyes I was shocked to find my friends laying on the cave floors completely lifeless. I went up to James and tried to feel for a pulse, but there wasn't one. There was no pulse for either Cassandra, Elizabeth, William, or Michael. When I went over towards Eve I noticed she was still slowly breathing. She looked at me with pain eyes and said "I-I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too" I said before my hand was in her chest and ripped out her heart. For a moment I was shocked I didn't know I had that much strength. I looked over and saw that the book was undugged and laying opening. I dropped Eve's heart on the ground and picked up the book with my bloody hands. I was shocked to find the book was opened to the exact spell that I just performed. The spell I did was called a sacrificial spell; this spell gives the user immortality at the cost of 5 lives, and must be of the same species. In order to keep this immortality, the spell must be repeated once every hundred years, and the on 7th attempt of this spell a sacrifice of over 10 lives, must be sacrifice with only 5 of being of the same species.
(Present Time)
"So you've been killing off your own kind to keep your immortality" Jeremy asked in disbelief as Evan finished his story.
Evan shrugged and said "Basically and let me tell you it isn't easy Halfas are indeed a very rare species."
"So you plan on not only sacrificing Amelia and her friends, but everyone in this cave as well" Jeremy stated.
Evan smiled and said "Everyone, but Amelia, I can't risk her death."
"Why Amelia" Jeremy asked confused.
"Well I guess I should start by telling you that Amelia and Jordan are Star-Crossed lovers, which does in fact involve me as well" Evan said.
Author's Note
Well there's chapter 12 and I hoped everyone liked it. Sorry I would have had this chapter up yesterday, but this chapter ended up longer than I thought it was going to be. If anyone is wondering Eve and Amelia are not doppelgangers, I won't cross that line. Next chapter will go into detail about Amelia's and Jordan's connection and why Evan is so interested In Amelia. So please continue to read and review and tell me what you think.
