Chapter 12
New bonds

Life became much brighter for Ron Stoppable. It's been two weeks since Bonnie started to regularly visit his house. He couldn't even imagine how strong it will affect it. The place that was a dull reminder of his trauma and fears, now filled with thoughts of laughter, smiles, and ease. Every day spend with Bonnie nearby was a blast. They watched different kind of movies and TV series, shared their tastes and thoughts about it, also they talked about school and people in their lives. Ron mostly shared his stories about funny situations that happened with Team Possible on missions, and about times he spent with a Possible family. Though it's still a difficult topic for him, he found himself comfortable to talk about it in Bonnie's presence. Bonnie's stories mostly included her family and Tara. Also it helped that there was someone nearby to hear out her at times when her old life tries to interfere with new one.

Hope was relentless to show off her new title, and to cement it. And that came with a lot of showing off before Bonnie. Every time there's a party at someone's house Hope was telling her that she can't go because she is a loser now. Bonnie didn't give a crap about it parties anymore, she is enjoying her life now at fullest with Ron, but the fact that New Queen B was constantly telling her things like that was irritating. Hope even tried to throw her off as co-captain of Cheerleading Squad, but it was useless. Kim stepped out in that moment and said that captains are chosen by their skills, and not popularity. Though she and Kim wasn't actual friend, at least red-haired teen hero understood her love for cheerleading. Also Kim knew that if there will be a mission during time of training, Bonnie will be a perfect substitute for her, and Hope maybe a Queen B now, but she is certainly not good enough to lead a squad.

Ron really enjoyed his new formed friendship. Though they spend most of the tome in front of TV, watching stuff, they also went to the park couple times to clean up the mess around their former special place. It was sad, to see it in this state, but at least they can honor a memory about best hiding spot in whole town. They also went to cinema theatre couple time on a premiere of new Sci-Fi movie and a romantic comedy. Ron actually liked last one, though mainly for its humor.

At this point of time those two were sitting in Bonnie's car at school parking lot and watching young couple making out in a vehicle two rows ahead of them.

"Seriously!" Bonnie sighed. "Are those two even breathing?"

"Well, Kim still has a healthy color on her face… " Ron answered. "…but i think that Josh is a little paler than he was ten minutes ago."

"I feel like a creep."

"Tell me about it." Ron sighed back. "But somebody has to do it. Remember what happened when we left them like that last time?"

"They were 30 minutes late, so what?"

"It's a math test today, first period."

"Oh yeah…right." Bonnie slapped her head lightly.

"By the way, thanks for your help, i probably wouldn't understand a half of it if it wasn't for your tutoring."

"Ah, no big."

"Actually Bonnie, you are great teacher, ever thinking about it as career choice?"

"Nope, but i probably will now." she smiled.

"I think it's time to startle these lovebirds." Ron said.

"Aye aye, sir."

They came out of her car and went toward Josh's. As they got near it Ron coughed couple times, and, with lower voice, loudly pronounced:

"Kimberly Ann Possible, what do you think you doing young lady?"

"Please don't send me to the orbit sir!" Josh's startled voice came from the car.

Bonnie laughed out loud, holding her sides. Out of the car came out two red-faced high-schoolers.

"Ron! What the heck?" Kim said.

"Not funny man…not funny." Josh added.

"Sorry dude, but it was worth it, also you got used to the honk, so i decided to be more inventive."

"Come on people." said Bonnie. "We are going to late if we stay here like that, math test in ten minutes, remember?"

Test was quite easy for Ron. Bonnie's tutoring helped a lot. They are cut their movie time during last week to study. After school day was over Ron and Bonnie sat in the car and went to his house.

"Hey, what are we going to watch today?" Bonnie asked.

"I don't know, it's your turn to choose a movie."

"Hm…i don't know…kinda tired a bit after exams, don't want to fall asleep, it will mess with my sleep cycle. How about a video game?"

"Are you sure? You were pretty messed up after you finished last one." Ron snickered.

"Come on, let it go already!" Bonnie's face blushed.

"You called me 10 p.m. in tears because of game's ending. I spend almost half-hour calming you down."

"Bit it was so beautiful! And i was upset that game is finished! And…"

"Alright, alright. Calm down." Ron smiled. "I'm just teasing you, i had the same reaction when i finished my first game with good story in it."

"You are really an asshole sometimes." Bonnie pouted.

"I know, i know. So what game are we going to play?"

"Hmm…how about those fighting games? Haven't tried those one yet."

They arrived to Ron's house and turned on the game system. Ron put a disc with a fighting game in it. They played story mode as characters that Bonnie chose. Though it was hard for her to play this genre for the first time, she quickly adapted to it, mainly because Ron set the game on Easy mode.

"This is fun!" Bonnie said in glee. "Hey, what is Versus mode mean?"

"That one if we want to fight each other, one player versus another."

"Let's try it!" Bonnie said.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!"

They picked characters. Ron set game to one round unlimited time. As soon as battle started his character stunned Bonnie's and after a series of combo attacks he won.

"Flawless victory." Ron said with a smirk.

"You really ARE an asshole sometimes…"

"Oh come on, don't get upset, next time i'll be easy on you."

"Oh HELL no! No pity! Go full power Ron, i'm going to beat you no matter what! Start the battle." Bonnie said with a confidence on her face.

She lost round upon round. Once or twice she managed to hit Ron's character, thanks to spamming of high kick attack, but still lost in the end.

"Giving up?" Ron asked after 15th battle.

Bonnie was really frustrated. She wanted to beat him, to teach him a lesson. Suddenly a devious idea was born in her head.

"No, i'm going to win this. I just need a proper motivation to do it." she said with a sly grin.

"And what this motivation will be?" Ron asked out of curiosity.

"Hm…if i'll win next round…you are going to cook me a full-course italian dinner tomorrow."

"And when i'll win?"

"IF you will win next round….you can choose what we are going to watch for a month." she answered.

"Deal!" he said.

As soon as new round started Bonnie turned to Ron, and softly whispered to his ear:

"Ronnie…"

Ron became stiff. While his brains furiously tried to understand what just happened, Bonnie's character, with several high-kick attacks, knocked out the opponent.

"Woo-hoo, i won!" Bonnie made a little victory dance while sitting on a couch.

"Wh-what hap…HEY! That was cheating!" Ron said with a blush on his face.

"No it wasn't." she answered. "Damn i'm beat…i'm going home , need some rest. By the way, i have a cheerleading squad practice tomorrow, so i'll be here couple hours later. Can't wait for a dinner! Bye!"

She took her back bag and left the building leaving Ron on his couch.

"I think i need a cold shower…" he said to himself.

When Bonnie arrived home, she quickly ran to her room, dropped to her bed and squealed from embarrassment into the pillow.

"Why? Why? Why? Why?" she repeated with a red face. "Why did i do that? Why i'm so stubborn to give up? This is so awkward! Stupid! Stupid! ARGH!"

Bonnie was lying on her bed with a face at the pillow. Suddenly she heard three knocks at her opened door.

"Problems Bonnie?" familiar voice came out from the doorway.

Bonnie lifted her head from the pillow and looked at an intruder.

"Connie?" she asked uncertainly.

The person in doorway looked had her older sister's face and body, but style was drastically different. Her brown hair was straightened, she was wearing black t-shirt with rock logo on it, plain blue jeans, snickers, and a wristband on her left hand with a skull image on it. Even her make-up was simpler than usually.

"Well yeah. Who else?" Connie answered.

"Is it some new kind of prank?" Bonnie said with a tone of suspicion in her voice.

"What? Ah…No, no, it's just mine working uniform."

"Working uniform? Where are you working? Wait, you are working? Double wait, what are you doing here, shouldn't you be in in college? And if you here, that means Lonnie too, right?"

"Wow…so many questions. Do you mind if i come in? Doorway is nice and all, but my butt want to feel some solid surface right now."

Bonnie nodded and he sister sat in a nearest chair and faced toward her.

"Let me answer last question first. No, Lonnie isn't here, she is in college. I haven't spoken with her for couple weeks, ever since i moved back here."

"You are living here for two weeks? Why i haven't noticed it?"

"Well, when i started working they had only late shifts. Basically i went to work when you weren't home yet and back from it when you were sleeping already. Mom said that she tried to tell you about me but you always rush from house at mornings and going straight to your room late in the evenings. She is worried you know."

"Something doesn't add up." cogs inside Bonnie's head refused to turn. "What about college? It's physically impossible to keep working like that and study while living so far from it!"

"Oh, i left it!"

"WHAT?" Bonnie shouted from surprise. "And Lonnie?"

"She is still in there, i told you already."

Bonnie took a deep breath. As much as she wanted just kick her older sister out of the room, he couldn't do it right now. In front of her, on a chair, sat half of her nightmare. But in the other hand, something was different, and not only her appearance.

"Alright Connie." she said. "It's getting more and more confusing with every answer. Can you just start from beginning please?"

"I can." Connie said smiling a bit. "It started a long time ago, you know how Lonnie and I are, together from the birth, wherever she goes i go, well at least it was like that. In reality, she was always in a lead. Whatever she decided to do, i always was around to help with that, to be part of that. And in the end i just lost my voice, not physically, but mentally. All thoughts, all decisions in my life were done by Lonnie, and i just went with it. I was like that for a long time, up until college. Without our parents over our heads, like it was in school, we obtained more freedom, but with it came consequences. To stay in popular status Lonnie and me constantly went to the parties. Problems quickly started to stack up. I can handle my drinks well, but she….not so. I usually in control of situation, but it's hard to control it in daily chaos, especially with so much people around. Basically my role was to keep her out of trouble. It's became tiresome very fast. I tried to tell her to slow down one time, but she said that she needs to attend all parties to stay popular. For me it wasn't worth it anymore. But…i could go against her. All my life she lead me, i didn't know how to be without her." Connie looked at her younger sister eyes and smiled. "Until you snapped back on us last month. I know what we've done to you all these years is trying to make you into another one like us, but now i'm truly sorry about all of it, really. Not to mention our methods weren't most pleasing ones."

"It was hell." Bonnie interrupted her.

"Again, i'm really, REALLY sorry about it right now."

"Fine, fine. Please don't say sorry anymore or i really will be sick of it soon. Heard and told it too much during last month."

"Oh…ok. Can i continue?"

"Go on." Bonnie said.

"Well, the day when you snapped on us was a turning point for me. When i saw how confident you become, something inside me had woken. You showed me the way, you showed me that i can change my life if i want to, i just need to take a leap in different direction, the one i will choose. For that i want to say Thank You." Connie smiled.

"Well, by looking at you i can say that you took a leap into pretty much opposite direction, than you were before." Bonnie smiled.

"Oh, you mean my attire? I work at 24-hour music store as an assistant in Rock section. Every different music section has different uniform. And thank god i'm not working at Reggie section, i like my hair too much to make a deadlocks."

"You are into Rock?" Bonnie looked surprised.

"Not really, actually, i listened only pop-rock before i got work, but now i'm educating myself into other subgenre. Thankfully there aren't many customers at late shifts, so i can listen it. I like my new work, it's different from my past life. Also i met many different people there, with different views and lifestyles."

"This is good and all, but why did you leave college and moved here? I'm sure there were a lot different people there too."

"Well." Connie sighed a bit. "For me, that college was another Lonnie's choice, and that the last thing i need now. But the main reason is…please, don't laugh."

"I won't" Bonnie said.

"I want to be a psychologist."

Bonnie blinked couple times.

"Uhm…why?" she asked.

"Let's face it Bonnie, i'm fucked up. For two decades i let someone else lead my life, without a second thought. Also because of my lifestyle i caused moral pain for many people, including you. I decided to learn psychology at Middleton Medical University to help other fucked up people. I asked dad to pay for me only for first two semesters, which is the other reason why i found myself a job. I want to be more independent. But i understand that i must go there slowly, that's why i agreed when father told me to live here while i'm studying at MMU. Well, i think that covered all you questions."

"Pretty much."

"Well than, since i answered all your questions, maybe you will answer mine? What with that outburst earlier? Do you have any problems?"

"No, i don't, at least the one that concerns you."

"Oh come on, tell me."

"No!"

"Ok." Connie sighed "I understand"

Connie stood from a chair and went toward an open door.

"But i'll tell you something else." Bonnie said, looking at her sister. "I'm proud of you."

Tears appeared on Connie's face, but also a smile. She quickly stepped toward a bed and hugged her younger sister.

"Thank you Bonnie….Thank you"
