Hello, nice to see you again. I really don't have anything to say, so here's a newchapter for you.
To Be A Father
When Jaune finally managed to open his eyes, the first thing he noticed was that it was dark…incredibly dark. At first he thought he was still in his subconscious, but the strong smell of anti-septic made it clear that was wasn't the case. Fortunately, the blonde didn't scream his head off and look at second to look around, his eyes quickly adjusting to the increased darkness and allowing him to see where he was. The first thing the blonde had noticed was the head that was resting on his left leg. To Jaune's relief it wasn't a decapitated head, but rather someone resting on his leg.
Ignoring the person that was using him as a pillow, Jaune focused on the room and nodded to himself when he realized that he was in a hospital. It wasn't special, just him, a bed and some nearby cupboards that housed medical equipment. A near silent *beep*, masked by his heart monitor, made Jaune look to see a dim digital clock displaying '2:00'. Once he was confident in knowing where he was, Jaune decided that it was best to let whoever was there know that he was awake.
However, as soon as he tried to move his arms, an enormous amount of pain shot through Jaune's body. Growing up in a house full of females as well as sleeping in a room with Ren, who was also a light sleeper like him, had trained him enough that the blonde didn't let out a single sound. Instead, Jaune bit his tongue hard and powered through the pain as he slowly began to sit himself up. It was a process that Jaune did not want to go through again, but he noticed that the pain had dropped to a more tolerable level after a few seconds.
Once his ordeal was over, Jaune decided to distract him mind from the phantom pain by focusing on who was using his leg as a pillow. Jaune only had to the eyepatch over the woman's left eye to realize that it was his oldest sister, Rouge. The other things Jaune took note of was the tears trails that were prominent on the older blonde's face as she rubbed her head into Jaune's leg. Jaune bit his tongue again at the intense pain, but still didn't make a sound. Once the pain had stopped, Jaune released a drawn-out breath of air.
'Okay…so my body can move, but it hurts like hell when I do.' Jaune thought as he looked around the room again, his attention focusing on Crocea Mors and his armor, or rather what's left of his armor. 'Aw man, and dad said that he like that cuirass.' The blonde though dejectedly, letting out a sigh. 'Hopefully Crocea Mors isn't too damaged.' As Jaune continued to look at the sword, his thought slowly turned to the events of the crash…if he could remember anything about it.
To Jaune's annoyance, he couldn't remember anything about the crash after he heard the pilots announce that the plane was going down. Rather than hurting his head with the subject, Jaune decided to do the simplest thing he could think of…leave it until morning and go back to sleep. With a pained sigh, Jaune lowered himself back down and closed his eyes.
-5 Hours Later-
"Anything new?" Jaune let out a light sigh as his mind registered a voice. Being as careful as he could, the blonde cracked his eyes open, enough to let him see but not enough to let the anyone know he was awake. To his surprise, Rouge was still sitting next to him with her arms crossed while Saffron and Akatsuki stood by the door, Akatsuki now sporting a crutch and a last on his leg.
"Nothing. Each day that passes makes me worry." Rouge said, casting a glance at Jaune's still form. "The doctor told me that his Aura is nearly back to being full but…" Rouge said, getting the two to nod when the older blonde's voice trailed off.
"If it means anything at this point, I'm sorry." Saffron said, lowering head while Rouge sighed. "If only I had just a few more seconds to use my Semblance on him, he'd have been-"
"No. I don't blame you…either of you for what happened." Rouge said, placing a hand on Jaune's hand. "I can't even place blame on myself." At that, the two huntsmen raised an eyebrow. "My grandmother told me that I can't take blame for a Grimm attack. Even if I did get Jaune and the two of you those tickets, I never would've known that Lancers would've attacked." Rouge said, squeezing Jaune's hand a bit. "At this point, all I can do is have faith in him."
"That's touching you know, I had a feeling that you cared about me all this time." At that, the three adults snapped their heads towards Jaune and widened their eyes when they saw that he was looking at them with a goofy smile on his face and his eyes barely open. While Rouge was processing the information, Jaune took the opportunity to turn his hand over and squeeze Rouge's hand. Once he did, the older blonde widened her eyes even further before she moved.
"Jaune!" Rouge shouted, getting up from her seat to hug Jaune. Though Jaune knew she was just expressing her happiness, the blonde couldn't hold back near silent cries of pain when his older sister hugged him. "My god! You're alive!" Rouge shouted as she tightened the hug, ignoring Jaune's cries of pain. "You're alive!" She would've tightened her hug even more, but Jaune's heart rate monitor, along with Saffron trying to pry her away, made her release just as the door was kicked open.
"What happened? His heart monitor is going off the charts!" A voice asked before a doctor ran up and Jaune widened her eyes. Without any words, the doctor appeared at Jaune's side, a stethoscope in her hands as Jaune was laid back down. "How are you feeling? Any pain?"
"I'm fine now." Jaune said, his breathing slowing down along with his heartrate. "My muscles are a bit tight, and it hurts when I try to move." The doctor nodded at Jaune's words as she sat Jaune up and placed the stethoscope on his back.
"I'm not surprised. It seems like your muscles are still recovering from the amount of Aura you used to protect yourself." Jaune didn't say anything as the doctor continued to inspect his body. Eventually, the blonde was allowed to lean back before being given some medicine. The doctor told him that was fine aside from the phantom pain and that she was going to contact his parents before leaving. As soon as the door closed, Jaune coughed into his hands.
"So, what happened?" Jaune asked, getting everyone to look at him. "How long have I been out?" At that, Akatsuki and Saffron looked elsewhere while Rouge sighed.
"Where do we start?" Akatsuki said, getting Jaune to raise an eyebrow before Saffron let out a heavy sigh.
"What's the last thing you remember?" The Faunus asked, getting Jaune to shrug.
"Everything that happened up to the point where the pilots started shouting 'Mayday'. From there…nothing." At that, everyone widen their eyes before Akatsuki rubbed the back of his head.
"Right…so, the main thing is that the airship crashed, and you were out of it for a week." The Huntsman said, getting Jaune to widen his eyes this time.
"Is everyone okay?" Jaune asked, before his eyes widened even more and pure terror overtook his face. "What about Vermilion!?" The blonde shouted, sitting up straight before his face twisted into pain. "What happened to my daughter!?"
"Easy, easy!" Akatsuki said while Rouge grabbed Jaune and pushed him back into the bed. "The kid's alright. Probably a bit shaken, but she's fine. Saffron made sure she wasn't hurt." Hearing that, Jaune turned his attention to the Faunus, who nodded at Jaune with a smile. "As for how she's doing now? Well, you're going to have to ask your sister about that." Jaune didn't waste any time and turned to Rouge, who gave Jaune a comforting smile.
"She's doing alright, a little fussy, but alright." The older blonde said, smiling even more when Jaune let out a sigh of relief. "Mom, dad and the others do have some questions, but I told them to ask you if- when, you woke up." Jaune nodded at that, falling back into his bed with another sigh of relief.
"So…I was here for a week?" Jaune asked, getting everyone to nod. "How did I get here?"
"I didn't have time to get you with my semblance, so you took the brunt of the blast." Jaune raised an eyebrow at him while Akatsuki shrugged. "My semblance allows me to create a small energy field to negate any harm." The man said before he grabbed a nearby cup and tossed it into the air. Quickly thrusting out his hand, Jaune watched as a small bubble appeared around the cup as it fell, letting it hit the floor but not shattering before the man dispersed his semblance and picked the cup up before motioning his head Saffron. "Lucky for you, Saffron caught you with hers."
"My Semblance is Stasis. I can slow down someone or something for a bit." The Faunus said before she grabbed the cup from Akatsuki and tossed it into the air. Jaune watched as she shot her hand out like she was going to grab it before a blue bolt of energy shot out of her hand and hit the falling cup. Jaune widened his eyes when he saw the cup practically freeze in the air until he realized that it was just falling slowly. After a few minutes, the cup began to speed up until Saffron caught it again. "See?"
"Saffron used her semblance on the airship to give people enough time to jump." Akatsuki said before letting out a sigh, "We managed to get everyone to the Cargo bay before I applied my Semblance to them and made them jump. The three of us were last to go out, but then Saffron's Semblance on the airship ran out." The man said, looking away from Jaune. "I didn't have time to shield you before the blast happened and you took most of it." Jaune nodded at the man's words before silence began to sit in.
"So, you're sure you're alright?" Rouge asked, before Jaune began to move around a bit.
"Well, I think I'm doing well enough, I don't feel any real pain." The older woman smiled and moved closer to her little brother. "Anything else happen while I was out?"
"Some of the passengers stopped by," Saffron said, pointing to Jaune's left where he saw some flowers and balloons. "They brought those to say thanks for saving their lives." Jaune smiled at the balloons and bouquets before a knock made everyone turn to the door where the doctor had her head poking in.
"Mr. Arc? You have some guest." The woman said before she opened the door. Jaune sucked in a small breath of air at the sight of his mom, dad and grandmother all walking in. Without a word, his mom dropped what she had in her arms and instantly rushed to Jaune before wrapping him in a hug. Jaune ignored the pain he felt surge through his body and simply returned his mom's hug. While his mom continued to hold onto him, Jaune felt a hand rest on his shoulder.
Looking up, Jaune saw his dad looking at him, a smile on his face and his eyes lightly tinted red. The two didn't say anything to each other but they else felt that they didn't really need to. When his dad joined in the hug, Jaune took the opportunity to look at his grandmother, smiling at her when she simply smiled gently and bowed her head to him.
"I missed you guys." Jaune said, tightening his hug around his parents.
And this chapter's done. Yeah, I know it's not anything special, but you have to have family moments in a story. And besides, this arc is here to show off Jaune's family as well as letting them catch up. It will also be showing some issues Jaune has with his family.
