So, here's the next chapter of this story. I've also published a HidaHina one-shot for Valentine's Day. Anyway, this story was a bitch to write so it might suck. Whatever.

Chapter 11

After sending a nosy Hidan away to pick up the food, Hinata joined Hiroshi in the kitchen, taking a seat across from him at the table.

"You never called me to let me know how it went with that Sato guy." Hiroshi crossed his arms over his chest, smirking. "I take it that it went well? Or did he leave before you got to him?"

Hinata let a small smile creep onto her face. "I got him."

"You didn't happen to take his head with you were done, did you?" he asked.

"I didn't care about the money," she replied. "So, no. I didn't take his head with me."

Hiroshi nodded. "Fair enough."

"Is that all you came here for?" Hinata asked. "Because you could've just called me to find out how it went."

"Nah, I needed to talk to you about something else," he told her, his expression turning serious. "I've been getting tidbits of information here and there about Kobayashi's whereabouts. And seeing how Sato was a close friend, or whatever the fuck he was, Kobayashi might be rearing his ugly head before we know it. I've been tracking the bastard as best as I could and I'm slowly but surely getting closer."

The young woman felt a surge of excitement. "First you find Sato for me. Now, hours later, you tell me that you're getting close to finding Kobayashi as well. Must be my lucky day."

"Well, don't get your hopes up too high." Hiroshi shifted in his seat. "I haven't pinpointed his location. I've only been getting tips from a few people here and there. He's been spotted, but I don't know where to find him. Yet."

"When you do, let me know immediately."

"I will. But I'm telling you now that Sato was child's play compared to what it'll take to bring down Kobayashi," he warned. "I highly doubt a crime boss will be alone, so if you know anyone who might be able to help you, I suggest you bring them along with you. Like that friend of yours who thought I was a fucking burglar or something. What was his name again?"

"Hidan," she told him, breaking eye contact. "I met him the other day."

"Well, he seems like he'd be useful for the cause." Hiroshi rubbed the back of his head, sore from when Hidan had slammed him into the wall. "How exactly did you meet him anyway? And no, I don't care if he's just a fuck buddy of yours. It's none of my business, I'm just surprised that you're actually communicating with another human being other than myself."

Hinata rolled her eyes. "It's not that big of a deal. He helped me out the other day and we got to know each other, that's all."

Hiroshi stared at her for several seconds, his face unreadable. "You slept with him."

Hinata blushed slightly, flustered by the sudden statement. "How would you know? You can't just assume something that you know nothing about."

"I saw the way he looked at you," he replied with an amused look in his eyes. "I already know that as soon as he comes back and I'm gone, he'll be throwing you onto the kitchen table for round twelve or whatever round you two happen to be on."

"Alright, shut up!" She rose from her seat and walked over to the fridge, retrieving a bottle of water. "I'm a grown woman, I can do what I want."

"Or who you want," he happily chimed in, before being hit in the head by the bottle Hinata had thrown at him. "Now that wasn't very nice."

Hinata shrugged. "I never claimed to be nice. But going back to our earlier subject, I'll only bring Hidan with me if Kobayashi isn't alone. I'd rather do this by myself. However, I'm not stupid enough to go barging into a heavily guarded hideout. It'd be suicide."

"Exactly," Hiroshi agreed. "So if I were you, I'd bring along the boyfriend for that adventure."

"He's not my boyfriend," she argued, though her voice was not convincing. "I've only known him for a few days."

He snorted. "Fine, then he's your friend with benefits. I know how it goes, I've got a few of those myself. They help me through those cold and lonely nights when my cat ignores me."

"Idiot," she said with a laugh.

"So, does he know about your interesting occupation?" Hiroshi took the bottle of water she had chucked at him and opened it. "Or have you kept that little secret of yours hidden away?"

"No, I told him," she admitted.

He nodded slowly, thinking to himself. "Interesting. And seeing how he still stuck around, he's obviously okay with it. Is he in the business, too? Because he looks vaguely familiar now that I think about it."

Hinata was quiet for a minute, as if she were debating something. "If I tell you something, you absolutely cannot let anyone know about it."

"Hidan's a member of the Akatsuki, isn't he?" he asked, straight to the point.

The dark-haired woman gaped at him. "How did you know?"

"It's simple really. I don't know why I didn't recognize him when he first slammed me into the wall," he said. "My memory is a little slow. I think I'm getting early signs of dementia or something. If you have to send me to a nursing home soon, I would like a view of the ocean."

"Dammit, Hiroshi. How did you know he's part of the Akatsuki?" Hinata questioned.

"Well, I'm not stupid and have been in this business for quite some time. I was bound to find out about their organization someday, right? I have nothing against them. They go around targeting the same types of people that we go after and then collect the bounties. I have no problem with them and have even met the guy in charge of that group. Pein is his name," he mumbled, trying to remember. "But anyway, we have a mutual understanding. I stay out of his business as long as he stays out of mine. On the rare occasion that we happen to have the same target, whoever gets there first is the one who kills the person and collect the bounty. I've seen a few of the members here and there and I'm pretty sure Hidan was one of them. There's also a shark-looking guy, some weird guy who looks like a plant, and a hot chick that I fantasize about in the shower. Just to name a few."

"Unbelievable," Hinata said, sighing.

Hiroshi took a long swig from the water bottle. "If you're getting friendly with the Akatsuki, maybe they'll help you take down Kobayashi."

"It's not like that," she replied. "I'm not close to the Akatsuki. The only other member I met was his partner, and he doesn't seem to be a big fan of me."

"Eh, he hates everyone," Hidan said, suddenly walking into the kitchen with a large paper bag in one hand and a twelve-pack of beer in his other. "Greedy fucker."

Hinata stared at him for a moment, before dropping her gaze. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything about-"

"Pfft! I don't fucking care." He put the food and beer onto the counter. "If he already knows about the Akatsuki, then why should I give a flying fuck if you talk to him about it?"

"It's not my place to say anything about it," she told him. "But seeing how I already know so much about you, I guess I can formally introduce you to Hiroshi. He's the guy who tells me who I'm supposed to target. I bring him the heads, and he pays me."

"So he's basically like Pein," Hidan guessed, then turned his attention to Hiroshi. "I don't apologize for shit. So take this fucking beer."

Hiroshi shrugged, taking the bottle from the silver-haired man. "I'll never say no to free beer. Hinata, keep this one around. But on that note, I'll be going now. I'm gonna keep tracking Kobayashi and hopefully pin-point his location. I'll call you the second I find anything." He gave Hidan a quick nod. "Nice meeting you, though I'd rather not be slammed into a wall the next time we meet."

Hidan shrugged. "Can't promise anything."

"Offer me more free shit and I'll let you get away with it," he said, heading out of the kitchen. "Later, Hinata."

As soon as he was gone, Hidan looked at Hinata as he opened the paper bag. "So..."

"No, I haven't slept with him," Hinata said dryly, getting dishes and silverware to put on the table. "Trust me, he's kinda like an older brother to me."

"How long have you known him?" Hidan asked, frowning as he looked into one of the plastic food containers. "Motherfucker! I told those bitches that I didn't want any vegetables! Fucking idiots!"

"Relax," she said softly as she set the table. "I'll eat them. But I've known him for about...let's see...eight years..."

"Damn..." he mused as he parked his ass on a chair. "You like ribs?"

Hinata gave a brief nod. "Ribs are good. What's in that box right there?"

Hidan smirked and opened it up, revealing a cinnamon roll. "Dessert for you."

"And where's yours?" she asked before suddenly being pulled down onto his lap.

"Right here," he breathed into her ear, snaking an arm around her waist. "I almost want dessert first." His stomach growled loudly, much to his annoyance and slight embarrassment.

Hinata smiled, prying herself out of his grasp. "Looks like your stomach says otherwise."

Meanwhile

"...Play it again." Kobayashi watched the video on the screen, frowning slightly as he lit a cigar. "Alright, freeze it. Right there."

After several seconds, his assistant turned to look at him. "What do you think?"

A cruel grin slowly spread across Kobayashi's face. "It's been boring around here lately. Why don't you say we liven this place up, shall we? I am in dire need of some good entertainment..."

The young man looked at him, puzzled. "Sir?"

His boss rose from his seat, taking a long, thoughtful drag from his cigar. "It's been a long time since I've had fun. And now that Keiichi is dead, I think it's time for me to show my face again."

"B-b-but sir!" his assistant stammered, his eyes wide. "Are you sure about that?"

Kobayashi exhaled, the smoke billowing from his nostrils. "Positive. It's time to remind everyone why they should fear me..."

Later on

Hinata threw the empty containers into the trash, feeling tipsy. Although she wasn't much of a beer drinker, Hidan had convinced her to drink three. He himself had drank four, though he was hardly feeling a slight buzz. His tolerance level was far beyond Hinata's, and seeing her fumble with the dirty dishes made him smirk with amusement.

Hinata cursed as she nearly dropped a dish, sighing as she hurriedly placed it into the sink. "This is why I don't drink often. I have a low tolerance."

"But beers are pretty fucking weak in alcohol content," Hidan told her, stepping behind her and pulling her back against his chest. "Why don't we drink something a little stronger and have some fun? You got anything good in that fucking freezer?"

"Lemme check..." The young woman pulled away and opened the freezer, rummaging through it. "Will this work for you?"

Hidan grinned, taking the bottle from her. "Rum, huh? Thought were weren't much of a drinker."

Hinata shrugged. "Gets lonely sometimes."

His smile faded and he put the bottle down before tilting her chin up so that she would look at him directly. "Just sometimes?"

"Umm..." She didn't want to admit otherwise.

"Well, fuck it. Let's drink." He uncapped the bottle, and instead of pouring a shot into a glass, he simply took a long swig from it. "Damn, that shit's good. Your turn."

Hinata took the bottle from him without hesitation and put the bottle to her lips. She threw her head back and drank from it, surprising Hidan at how much she had taken. Easily three shots worth alone.

"That's right, fucking pound it," he told her, taking the rum for another gulp. "Let's get shitfaced, alright?"

"Sounds like a plan," she murmured, a melancholy expression on her face. "Until it's gone."

Hidan smirked deviously. "Until we can't fucking walk straight."

"Until we forget." Hinata took another long sip, her heart suddenly aching.

Her lover's expression softened and he brushed his thumb over her cheek. "How much do you want to forget?"

Hinata was quiet for a few seconds, her hand closed tightly around the bottle. "Everything..."

"Including me?" he asked.

She gazed at him, before shakily setting the bottle down and melting into his arms. "Everything but you..."

The next few hours were a blur to both of them. Hinata vaguely remembered Hidan laying her down on the kitchen table and making love to her, just as Hiroshi had jokingly predicted. Hidan awoke sometime later on the carpeted living room floor, a passed out Hinata next to him. Still feeling buzzed, he carefully lifted her into his arms and carried her into her bedroom. He placed her onto the bed and climbed in beside her, pulling the covers up. Hinata snuggled into his chest as he possessively embraced her, both of them surrendering to some much needed sleep.

See, this chapter was a bitch to write. It was also boring. Oh well, shit happens. The next one will probably be more exciting.
