Lets go guys! We're almost there!
Chapter Twelve
Naruto watched the TV from his spot on the couch. Some animated movie with singing characters in it was playing on the screen, but the blond Omega wasn't paying any attention to it. His gaze kept blinking back to his cell phone on the coffee table, he had already checked multiple times to make sure it was on and the sound was turned all the way up. He wanted to make sure that when Sasuke called, he could hear it. Gnawing on his lip, the boy leaned forward again and grabbed the phone, deciding to also turn on the vibration as well.
"Naruto, oh my God, if you touch that phone one more time I'm going to throw my soup on you." Sakura threatened from her place on the cushion next to him. She was carefully balancing the hot bowl in her lap as she sipped on the broth.
Naruto tossed the phone back onto the table and ran a hand through his hair. "Sorry, it's just…Shouldn't they have called by now?"
Iruka appeared in the doorway from the kitchen then, holding his own bowl of soup. "It's only been an hour. Give them some time. Kakashi and the others probably only just got there."
The blond gnawed on his bottom lip some more and eyed his phone again.
"Naruto…" Sakura warned, her eyes narrowing at the boy.
Sighing, Naruto stood from the couch. "Where's Hinata?" He asked, only just noticing her absence.
Iruka nodded his head in the direction of the back door, "Out on the patio, I think."
The blond stepped over Sakura and headed towards the back patio. The outside air was cool compared to the normal blazing heat of summer. A true sign that fall was just around the corner. Closing the door behind him, he saw Hinata sitting on the patio swing with a book in her hands, swaying slightly. He smiled at her when she looked up upon his arrival. She smiled back, though her eyes were creased with worry. Naruto sat beside her on the padded swing and leaned against her shoulder. "You okay?" his voice was soft.
Hinata looked down at the open book, and Naruto could tell she was thinking really hard. "I…" She hesitated. "I'm worried."
"I am too."
"No." Hinata shook her head, "you don't understand." She began fiddling with the paper in front of her, rubbing the page between her thumb and forefinger. "You got to mate with Sasuke before all this happened, but I…with Kiba…" As if she only just realized what she was trying to convey, her cheeks suddenly turned a bright red and she leaned over, hiding her face in her book.
Naruto smiled fondly at his friend. Well, they were more than friends, really. Him, Saukra, and Hinata had all been together since they were infants. Omegas are required to go to special private,omega-only schools from pre-K all the way through high school. Since the three of them were from the same county they got to stay in the same classes together their whole life. They were closer than friends, they were there for each other during all the hard times and the good, they were family. Naruto wanted nothing more than to see Hinata happy and being with the ones she loved. Although he was a little sad that she felt she couldn't tell him and Sakura about her secret relationship with Kiba and how her cousin was in a mafia gang, but he supposed she did it because she had their best intentions in mind.
The blond began to rub Hinata's back comfortingly. "Hey," He said softly, leaning down close to her ear. "Everything will be okay. Kiba and Sasuke and all the others will be back here soon and I'm sure Kiba is anxious to see you again."
Hinata sat back up, her face still red, but she smiled and then reached over, wrapping her arms around Naruto's shoulders in a hug. "Thank you," She held the blond close, " and sorry."
Naruto smiled into her shoulder and reciprocated the hug, breathing in her sweet, floral scent he was sure Kiba was crazy about. "Its alright, but promise me one thing?" He pulled back from the hug, a smile on his face as well. He had intended on having her promise him no more lies, but when he saw her blushing cheeks, sincere smile, and eyes filled with unspilled tears, he knew she would never keep any large secrets from Sakura and him again.
"Sure, what is it?" Hinata tilted her head and rubbed at her watery eyes.
Naruto stood from the swing, "When you confess to Kiba, promise me you'll try and keep the noise down when you're both having crazy sex."
Hinata's blush immediately spread from her cheeks to the entirety of her face and even to her ears. She shrieked and jumped up to kick the boy in the butt while he skirted back inside. "Naruto!"
The blond closed the patio door with a devilish grin on his face and giggling into his hand.
"Hello, Naruto."
The Omega froze.
Even with his gaze still on the doorknob where his hand rested, he knew exactly who was behind him. The icy glare piercing into the back of his bitten neck, the scent of rabid Alphas thick in the air. Before turning to meet the one man he never wanted to see again, he bolted the lock on the door and prayed Hinata would understand.
Naruto turned, slowly, with a glare that amounted all of the hatred he had for this certain individual, he met Orochimaru's cutting gaze. "Oh?" He tried to make his voice sound flippant and uncaring. "So the rumors are true, cockroaches just cant die."
Orochimaru smirked, "I expected to come here and see you cowering with the other Omegas, but you look quite well." The snake demon pulled a gun from his coat and pointed it at the blond. "I'm sure even you are smart enough not to put up a fight here." He stepped to the side and motioned for Naruto to move past him. He lead the boy into the living room where the TV was turned off and Iruka and Sakura were both sitting attentively on the couch. The first floor was filled with Orochimaru's lackeys, each with their own gun, several of which had theirs pointed at Iruka and Sakura.
Naruto clenched his jaw, Sakura was crying. Iruka was holding onto her hands as he sat next to her, but silent tears still flowed from her wide eyes. When she saw Naruto round the corner with Orochimaru she called out to him, but another gun waved in her face and she whimpered back to silence.
"It's okay, Sakura, don't be scared." Naruto said from the edge of the room, the snake, still behind him. "They won't hurt us." He reassured.
"Them, maybe." Orochimaru shoved the barrel of his gun into the small of Naruto's back, causing the boy to wince. "But you?" He chuckled, an evil, guttural sound that Naruto knew would be invading his nightmares. "You killed my second in command. So, I'm sorry little Omega, but you die today."
"No!" Sakura jumped from the couch but was shoved back down.
"Orochimaru!" Iruka yelled, "Let Naruto be, you already got your revenge, you don't really want to kill an Omega do you?"
Got his revenge? What does that mean? Naruto crinkled his eyebrows…
Sasuke.
Rage, pure unadulterated rage and a sheer part of panic rocketed through Naruto. Without even thinking or questioning, the blond swiftly turned on his heels, and shoved his fist as hard as he physically could into the pale cheek of Orochimaru. The force was so hard it sent the Alpha stumbling back a few steps into one of his lackeys while two others quickly restrained the blond. Naruto bit his lip until blood started to flow, he was sure he broke something in his hand just then. "You…" He returned his glare to his face, but this time, heated tears were mixed in. The crying didn't diminish the threat in his voice or the look of vile hatred in his eyes. Instead, the tears ensured the wrath of a mated Omega seeking vengeance for their murdered Alpha. "You killed," The words were bitter in his mouth, like salt, he couldn't swallow it, but it was still painful to let out. "You killed Sasuke. My mate. You killed him!"
Naruto stomped the foot of the lackey on his right, causing him to step back in pain, he then elbowed the one on his left in the stomach before turned and also punching him in the face. With their hold on the blond lost, he stampeded towards Orochimaru, fist in the air, ready to collide with the bastard's face once again.
Somewhere in the back of his mind he could hear Iruka and Sakura yelling for him to stop, and he could see the many guns now trained on him. But all he cared about was the fact that the man who killed his Sasuke was in front of him, just a few measly feet away. He wasn't about to let anyone step between him and the snake who has caused so much terror in the lives of the people he loves. Sakura's crying face, Hinata's worried eyes, Sasuke…This snake-like man had hurt him too many times, scared the people he loves, oh no, he was not leaving this house alive, even if Naruto had to die along with him, the bastard was being sent to hell no matter what.
Naruto ducked down and skidded across the adjoining kitchen's floor, past Orochimaru's feet and to the other side of the counter. Gunshots sprayed the wooden cabinets and ricocheted off the floor. "Wait! Don't shoot in here you idiots!" Orochimaru yelled. Naruto seized the moment of hesitation, grabbing a large knife; he jumped over the counter and into the air before the snake.
Time seemed to slow down for that split second for fate to make their move. Naruto, with his knife above his head and his glare fixed on Orochimaru beneath him. The snake-like man, raising his gun to shoot the blond out of the air, but his eyes were wide, unsure, he hadn't expected an Omega to act this way. He should've been cowering and begging for his life, but he was this crazy? No, this definitely wasn't the plan. And now that gunshots had been fired, the neighborhood would have definitely heard them and called the police, he could make it out of here before the police come, if only he could raise his gun faster and shoot this damn blond from the sky. Iruka and Sakura were screeching, jumping from the couch as both them and the rest of the people in the room turned towards the blond and the snake converging on each other.
And like a drop of water dangling from the edge of a leaf to finally drop and plummet to the ground below, Naruto collapsed onto Orochimaru, his scream echoing with the ring of gunshots, his knife fully submerged to the hilt in Orochimaru's chest.
The echoes died and everyone stared. Orochimaru glared up at the blond on top of him, his breathing shallow and coming out in short wheezes. Naruto glared back, and pressed down on the knife, but it was already completely sheathed inside the demon. "Go to hell, cockroach." He hissed at the pale man.
Orochimaru's glare turned into a bloody smirk as red oozed from the corners of his mouth, staining his white skin. "See you there." He foreboded before his wheezes stopped and his eyes turned glassy and out of focus. His arm which held his gun dropped from where he held it up to Naruto's side, the gun clattering to the ground.
Orochimaru was finally dead.
Naruto's head was blank.
"Naruto!"
He looked up, Iruka and Sakura both had guns held at their temples. The men in the room all looked at Naruto, as if waiting for his next move. The blond slid off the corpse beneath him and immediately doubled over in pain. Blood began to run down his side and soak through his shirt. The bastard had shot him after all, but not only that, another searing pain shot up from his right leg where more blood oozed from a bullet hole, he must have been shot again while he was jumping in the air. He couldn't move.
"Let them go!" He shouted, his gaze looking over the men, trying to find someone who looked like the next leader they would all listen to. "Orochimaru is dead, you have no reason to continue this!"
No one moved. The lackeys only exchanged glances, seemingly lost. Naruto grit his teeth, he was beginning to feel dizzy. "Fine!" He used the bar stool above him to hoist himself up onto his feet as the point of the guns rose with him. "Kill me," He pointed a hand to his chest.
"No, Naruto!" Sakura yelled.
Naruto ignored her. "If you need to get revenge for your dead boss, fine, kill me. Just let them two go and be done with it! They're innocent in all this, only bystanders!" Blackness was beginning to creep in on the edges of his vision. He needed to get these guys out of here and fast.
In the distance, sirens could be heard faintly.
Naruto gasped quietly, an idea springing into his head, at least one that was more thought out than what he somehow just accomplished. "Take me away." Several of the men raised their eyebrows. "Put me in chains and take me to your base or whatever, lock me up and then you can decide what to do with me. I know you need to talk to the others in your pack first, but hear that?" He paused so everyone could listen as the sirens grew louder, "the police are coming, and you're all going to be screwed if you're still here. So take me with you and leave the others here."
A moment of silence followed, Naruto could practically see the cogs moving in their slow brains.
"Alright." One of them, the one who held the gun to Iruka's head spoke up. The others nodded in agreement then, and they took Naruto by the arms and dragged him towards the front door, the blond wincing the whole way. They had Iruka and Sakura turn and face a wall as they filed out the door and into the cars that were lining the road. They shoved Naruto into the backseat of the leading car and quickly started the engines. Tires screeched as they raced to a start, but as soon as the car went around the corner it came to a skidding halt. In front of them, was a barracade made of cars and large guns.
"No, no, no, no! Why are you here?!" Kiba grabbed his hair in fist fulls.
"Um, a thank you would be good." Karin raised an eyebrow at her pack member.
"No! Orochimaru saw you all, if he knows you're here and Iruka isn't of course he'll figure out to go to Kakashi's house!"
"Whoah, calm down dog boy," Tenten placed a hand on her hip as she leaned against the truck she came in. "Let's just give Iruka a call and tell them they're coming." She smiled.
Kiba sighed and looked to Kakashi who had just finished lifting Sasuke into the car. The silver-haired man pulled out his phone and dialed his mate.
"Kakashi?" Iruka's voice was on the other line, he sounded worried.
Kakashi spoke into the phone, "Iruka, get the others and leave the house now, Orochimaru is on his way to you. Sasuke and a few others were shot, we'll meet you at-"
"Wh-" static interfered on the line, "I can't-you're breaking up-" Reception was never good on the Mountain Top, people weren't even meant to bring phones up here in fear of GPS tracking.
Kakashi repeated what he just said, but the static only increased before the line cutout all together. He looked at the others gathered on the driveway. "We need to move now."
Everyone climbed into Guy's truck except for Kiba who hopped in with Kakashi and the two wounded. Guy followed Kakashi in his Sudan as they raced down the mountain, hoping to get reception before it was too late.
As soon as they emerged from the forest surrounding the mountain, Kiba was able to get a call through on Kakashi's phone, but the line never picked up. "He's not answering." He stated, "You don't think they're already there, do you?"
"Maybe." Kakashi looked at the clock on his dash, Orochimaru was about ten minutes ahead of them, maybe more, if they sped they could definitely be at his house by now. He looked at Sasuke and Neji in the back seat, both passed out and bleeding profusely. "Kiba, call Guy in the car behind us. Tell them to head for my house, Orochimaru will be there. After that, call the first number on my contacts page and tell whoever answers to go to my house and help with backup."
"What are we going to do?" Kiba was already dialing Guy's number.
"We need to take these two to Tsunade."
"Ok, got it, we're on our way, Kakashi. Everyone!" Guy called out the back window to the pile of people holding on in the bed of his truck. "We're going to Kakashi's house, Orochimaru will be there with the Omegas. He's going to take Sasuke and Neji over to Tsunade's and then meet us there!"
The truck split off from behind Kakashi and headed towards the house, going well over the speed limit. As the neighborhood was finally in sight a sleek black car appeared behind them. "Who?" Karin looked at the tented windows, grasping her gun.
The side window rolled down then, and Tobi's bright orange mask popped out, he waved, then swiftly went back inside the car and rolled the widow up.
"Who is it?" Guy called from behind the wheel as they entered the neighborhood.
Karin shook her head and smiled, "It's Itachi! He must be here for back up."
Iruka's house was in sight, Guy could see the black SUVs of Orochimaru's men lined up on the road, and running alongside the road was… "Hinata?!" Guy slammed on the breaks causing Itachi's car to as well.
Hinata ran up to the truck, tears streaking down her face. "N-Naruto! Sakura! They're in there! Gunshots, I heard gunshots!"
Karin jumped from the truck and wrapped the girl in her arms, kissing her head really quick before urging her into the back of the truck. She walked up to the driver's window as Guy rolled it down. "If there were gunshots, the police will have already been called," she told him, "I'm going to take a look in one of the windows and see what's going on."
Shikamaru chimed in from the passenger seat in the truck, "If they're holding them at gunpoint we won't be able to just barge in."
"Most likely they'll run." Tenten also chimed in from the truck bed where she was petting Hinata's head.
"They'll have to," Karin looked at the innocent house in the distance. "go wait a few roads down, I'll check out what's going on. When they run, we can grab the Omegas after they leave and all of us can get out of here before the cops come."
"What? We're just going to let Orochimaru go?" Lee stood up from beside Tenten. "We can't do that!"
"If it means getting the Omegas out safely then we may have to. Shikamaru, give me your phone."
He tossed her the object and she pocketed it. "Go wait, I'll call you guys and let you know what's going on."
Guy nodded and turned the car around, heading back down the street with Itachi's car in route. Karin swiftly ran towards the house, leaping over the backyard fence and quietly stalking up to the kitchen window.
A barrage of gunshots could be heard from inside the house followed by several screams, Karin quickly jumped over a bed of flowers and peered through the glass just in time to see Naruto land on top of Orochimaru. She saw the snake bastard go limp and guns being drawn on Sakura and Iruka. It was hard to hear, especially as police sirens began to wail in the distance, but she could tell Naruto was trying to bargain with Orochimaru's lackeys, his eyes were desperate and he looked in pain as he raised himself up, then she heard, "Take me away!"
That was all she needed to know for her to realize Naruto's plan. He wanted to give himself to Orochimaru's gang to save Iruka and Sakura. Karin opened Shikamaru's phone and called Guy, he picked up on the first ring. "Orochimaru is dead," She stated flatly. The line was silent. "His men are taking Naruto and running, set up the cars and get out all the guns on the next street over. They're going to try and leave through the back of the neighborhood where the police aren't coming in. I'll grab the Omegas and meet you over there."
"Got it."
Karin hung up just as she heard the front door to the house being opened and people filing out. She hid herself in the bushes until they had all gotten into their cars. Peering in the window she saw Iruka scrambling for his phone and Sakura standing still in the kitchen, eyes wide. Karin knocked on the window and the pink haired girl flinched. Upon realizing who it was she visibly relaxed some and quickly opened the window.
Karin hoisted herself in and grabbed Sakura, bringing her into her arms. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
Sakura sniffed, her face was wet with tears, "No. But Naruto, they took Naruto."
"Kakashi won't answer his phone." Iruka hurried back into the kitchen and saw Karin. "The others, they're here?" He asked, hopefully.
"They're here." Karin reassured. "They're setting up a barricade on the next street. We'll get Naruto back."
The police sirens were deafening as they finally arrived on the street, speeding to the house.
"Shit, we need to go." Karin grabbed Sakura by the arm and ran for the back door, Iruka behind her. They climbed over their backyard fence and into the neighbor's yard, running around the house and onto the next street over.
It looked like they were at a stalemate.
The barricade had stopped Orochimaru's lackeys from going any further, but they still had Naruto as leverage. Naruto was being displayed in the middle of the street with three guns on his head. The boy looked as pale as death and was wobbling where he stood.
Karin snuck the three of them around the cars and to the truck that was the closest to the house. Hinata, upon seeing them from her safe spot behind the vehicle, grabbed Sakura and hugged her hard. The two cried quietly into each other's arms. With Itachi seemingly missing, his men stood behind their car, each of them with particularly large guns displayed on their shoulders. Deidara looked to also be holding a handful of bombs. Guy held his hand up for everyone to hold fire. If only it was just one person holding a gun to Naruto's head, they could snipe him, but three? It was too risky to gamble with the Omega's life.
Guy spotted Karin beside him and nodded at her, knowing the other two were safe. He turned back to the threat in front of them. "Orochimaru is dead!" He called, his voice stern. "The police are at the house now collecting his body. They'll be here any second looking for you who escaped. Everyone will be looking for the people who kidnapped an Omega boy and held two other people hostage, and without a leader, it won't be long before you're all hunted down and caught." He paused to let his words sink in.
The lackeys said nothing.
Guy continued, his voice more threatening, "You can give Naruto to us and leave with your lives, or all I have to do is fire one gun and the police will be here before you can even blink."
"You fire that gun and we'll all go down!" One of the lackeys yelled.
Hidan laughed from his side of the road, "Maybe, but I'll definitely take most of you out with me!" He adjusted the large bazooka-looking gun on his shoulder.
"If we go down," One of the henchmen that was holding a gun up to Naruto spoke, his gaze looking solely at Guy, his eyes were bloodshot. He looked…scared. "Then we're taking this bitch with us!"
A muffled gunshot diffused in the air and the crazed lackey crumpled to the ground. Not a split second later, the other two at Naruto's side fell as well. Kakashi and Kiba emerged from the other side of the road, snipers in both their hands.
With no leverage, guns trained on them from almost every side, and a legion of police officers only a few hundred feet away, Orochimaru's gang was officially beaten. The pack members lowered their guns. Kakashi stepped towards Naruto, catching him just as he was about to wither to the ground. He turned to the unsure enemy, "Leave. And don't even think about coming back for revenge."
The threat was simple yet terrifying. The groupies huddled into their cars and Guy backed his car up letting a break in the road so they could pass through and escape. The others didn't have much time, though, the police would be circling the building any second. Kakashi picked Naruto up and him and Kiba ran back to their car one more road over. The others hopped back into Guy's truck and Deidara and Tobi slid into their car. Hidan stood outside his driver's door. "Anything else I can assist you with?" He asked Guy, sarcastically.
"No, thank you!" Guy said cheerily, and grinned largely at him. "You guys should probably get to a hospital now."
Hidan scoffed, "Yeah where do you think we were headed before we got your call begging for our help? Geez, you guys are annoying." He rubbed the back of his neck and got into his car and sped away, Guy not far behind him, but as they left the neighborhood Guy turned and following in the direction that Kakashi's car was.
"Are we going to the hospital too?" Sakura asked from inside the truck with Hinata beside her
"No, we're going someplace better."
"Better?!" Sakura exclaimed, "Naruto needs a hospital and a Doctor!"
"Don't worry, he'll get a doctor, the best one around. We're taking him to Tsunade's." Guy smiled reassuringly, but as he turned his eyes back on the road his smile faded.
The feud between the packs was finally over, but no one rejoiced. The question was still in the air of who would make it to see tomorrow and who would become the martyr of the war.
