Disclaimer: I don't own New Moon, or anything Twilight related. I do own Melody Waters and any other characters I make up!

Author's Note: Back so soon? *gasp*

I am just so sick and tired of New Moon.

Enjoy!

Ever since my little revelation, I'd been under constant watch by the wolves. It was nice at first, but then it reminded me of when...his family protected me when James was on the loose. And even then I still got hurt.

Jacob was gone pretty much all the time now, hunting Victoria. And I felt like such a terrible person saying that I actually missed him. So to keep myself from missing him, I kept myself busy with Aunt Sarah. Erica had gone to visit her parents, because it was her mother's birthday, so it was just Aunt Sarah and me. Aunt Sarah been really depressed lately too, because Uncle Charlie was out hunting the "bears", and didn't come home until late into the night. So I helped her cook, I helped her clean, and then we kept ourselves busy.

But one day when I came home, Aunt Sarah wasn't there. I walked into an empty kitchen, and there was a note on the counter. I picked it up, skimming over it. She said that she and a few friends of hers had gone shopping, and that there was still some chicken parmesan in the fridge.

Sighing, I let the note drop on the counter before doing what I usually did on the rare occasion when I was left alone.

This time I put on my lullaby version and assume the position. About a minute in though, I was overwhelmed with memories. Edward and I playing, reading together, just enjoying each other's company. Then I remember the day I saw Emily and Sam. You couldn't deny that they loved each other. I couldn't help it; I pulled myself off of the bed and started push everything off of my desk, not leaving a single thing on top. Then I went over to my dresser and knocked all of the stuff of there too. I kicked at the stuff on the ground, and the picture of Edward and I that I had framed, I picked it up from my dressing table with the mirror, studying it. We were both so happy. We didn't have a care in the world.

I let out a sob before throwing it on the ground. The glass in the frame completely shattered, and as soon as it hit the ground, I realized that I had made a huge mistake. "NO!" I screamed, falling to the ground. My hands landed on the glass, but I barely noticed it as I picked the picture up, wiping the glass away, and thankfully it was fine. I hugged it to my chest before rocking back and forth, back and forth. I wasn't sure how long I stayed like that, but whenever I sat in the Cullen house and cry, H-Edward usually showed up. But now, when I'd made a mess of my room and even hurt myself, he hadn't shown up. I hadn't heard his voice in weeks, and it was driving me crazy. He usually showed up when I was doing something dangerous, and there was only one thing that I could think of...

That was it.

I picked myself up off of the ground and ran for my car. As I started driving, I pulled my phone out. The call went straight to Erica's voicemail, but I said, "Erica, I'm going to the cliffs. I'm not gonna jump or anything, but I need to hear him. I have to."

I somehow just knew the way to the cliffs (it was probably instilled in my Twilight brain), and I stopped at the edge of them. I quickly took my shoes, jacket, and all of the jewelry I was wearing before going over to the very edge. I took a deep breath, closing my eyes. He has to be here, I thought to myself. He has to come.

"Melody, don't."

Smiling, I opened my eyes and turned my head to where the sound of H-Edward's voice came from. "You wanted me to be human. This is something that humans do." I looked down at the water. "Well, not very smart humans, but humans nonetheless."

"Don't do it, please," H-Edward begged, and I growled, turning to face him.

"Oh, don't get your panties in a wad, I'm not actually going to do it," I said, annoyed. Then I let my voice go gentler. "This is the only way that you'll stay with me. I don't know what else to do."

He looked like he was going to dissolve, so I looked down as I stepped even closer to the edge. Just as H-Edward reappeared, there was a loud howl in the woods. One of the wolves was here. And that could only mean one thing.

Vicky was here.

I was so surprised by the howl, that I actually jumped a little (like I always did when I was surprised), and I. Lost. My. Freaking. Footing.

The rock under my feet gave out, and I automatically reached for H-Edward, who was reaching for me too, but it was useless. He was just a hallucination.

"NO!" I screamed as I fell. "HELP!" I yelled as I kept falling. I literally felt like I was falling into a whole bunch of nothingness. But that was when I hit the water. Wanna know a secret?

Cold water freaking hurt when you crash into it. I swear I broke something!

Oh, I swear I was gonna neuter whichever freaking mutt made me fall!

I knew the current was gonna be fast, but I didn't think it would be this fast. I didn't even have the time to prepare myself!

The current pulled me right under the water, and I went crazy trying to pull myself out. The worst part was I was holding my breath, and I really sucked at it. Jack always won all of the "holding your breath" contests between the two of us.

As I was thrashing, I saw a flame of red in the water, and I knew it was no exotic fish. It was her.

I couldn't help it. I screamed. And when I did, water immediately filled my lungs, and I started choking. I kept trashing, hopelessly trying to fight the current. I actually hit my head against a rock, and the sudden pain in my skull was enough to make my stop moving in general.

Oh, well, I thought as I started sinking. I would rather die of drowning than at the hands of Victoria.

I turned my head in the water, and H-Edward was beside me. At least I was able to see him before I died.

Hey, hold up a second! I was not Bella Swan! No way was I ready to give up on life yet!

I tried flailing again, but my arms literally refused to move, no matter how hard I tried. My eyelids were drooping even harder, and no matter how hard I fought, I gave into my body's command and shut my eyes, everything going black...

"BREATHE!" Was the first thing I heard when I started regaining consciousness. There was a hard hit on my chest, and I realized that Jacob was just trying to get all of the water out of my chest. Well, he might as well enjoy it, because this was as close to touching my chest as he was getting.

I needed to speak. I had to. Alice was probably already here, and I needed to get to her! And my house phone!

"Breathe, Bella, breathe!" Jake said again, and with one final hard hit to my chest, I coughed out about an entire gallon of water. The water dribbled out of my mouth, and Jacob sighed in relief. "Thank God," He said.

"Jake, I need to go home," I croaked. I was pretty sure I just sounded like a frog. He probably didn't hear me, because he just picked me up so that I was still on the ground, but I wasn't on the cold sand. As soon as I was touching his skin, I started warming right up.

"What the hell were you thinking?" He asked me. "Why were you cliff diving? And in this weather?!"

"I wasn't!" I insisted. "I fell! I didn't jump!"

"Okay! Okay," He said.

There was another voice-Sam's, I think-and it mentioned Harry. God, that's right. Harry had the heart attack.

"What happened to Harry?" I asked.

"He had a heart attack," Jake said, and he choked up a bit. "Your aunt and uncle are there."

"Jake, you gotta get me home," I demanded, and I pushed against him so that I could stand up.

"It's okay! It's okay, let me help you," He insisted, but I pushed him off of me.

"I can get up myself, I'm not a child," I told him, wrapping my arms around my wet, cold body.

"No, but you are a person who nearly drowned!" He retorted, and he had a point there. "I'm gonna get you a sweater."

"I don't need one if I'm changing when I go home," I pointed out, stomping on the sand.

"Bella, you're gonna get pneumonia," He tried again.

I growled so loudly that I think I could challenge Paul and turned around to face Jacob. "If I change into some clothes, will you let me go home?"

He looked a little taken aback at my tone, but agreed, "Yes."

One old outfit of Emily's later, Jacob and I were driving home in my truck. Even though I was freezing, I made it a point to sit right next to the window. I took out my purse that I had hidden away and pulled my phone away. 100 missed calls from Erica, and about 50 texts from her. All about me being stupid and not to go. One even said that she was on her way. How was she gonna get here? I mean, it was a very far drive from Salt Lake to Forks, but where would she get the car?

"It's about 108 degrees warmer over here," Jake 'pointed' out.

I barely looked up from my phone as I answered, "I'm good here, thanks."

"Why are you in such a rush to get home?" He asked.

Uh oh. I wasn't sure if I should lie, because we were already almost home, but how would I explain that I knew Alice would be there?

And in this moment did I know that I had to tell Jacob about me. I mean, about the books. It wasn't fair to have one of the central characters not in the know. The Cullens took it pretty well, maybe Jacob will too. And hopefully, it'd motivate him to let me go to Italy, because I was positive I had to.

As soon as Jacob pulled into the drive, I saw the familiar car in the driveway.

I was about to jump right out of the car when I heard Jake say,"Whoa," like he was being overwhelmed.

I whipped my head to face him. "What? What is it?" IS IT REALLY?

"Vampire," He spat, and that was all I needed to launch myself out of the car.

"Bella, wait!" He shouted, and he was beside me in an instant, his hand on my arm.

I swirled to face him and wretched my arm from his grasp. "Not now, Jake!"

"Look, if a Cullen is back here, this is their territory," He told me. "The treaty says we can only defend on our own land, I won't be able to protect you."

"Then don't!" I shouted at him. "These are the Cullens, they'd never hurt me! And this is still my goddamn house, I will go in if I please!"

Not giving Jacob a chance to retaliate, I spin on my heel and ran for the door. I quickly pushed it open and looked around for her. The light turned on, and there she was. Little pixie Alice Cullen.

"Alice!" I sobbed and rushed right into her grasp. "Why did you go? You promised you wouldn't!"

She pulled me off of her. "And you promised not to go to the cliffs, and what did you do? You went to the cliffs!"

"There was no one with me, I couldn't control myself!" I cried, and Alice pulled me into a hug.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," She said again. "Let's sit you down."

She led me over to the couch, and we sat down. I was launching questions at her the second my butt was on the couch. "Why did you leave me? You read the book, you knew what would have happened to me! Especially since I am clearly way more emotionally attached to you guys."

"I'm sorry Bella, it was all my fault," She revealed. "Kate called and said that Tanya was having a hard time with the diet all of a sudden, and said that she needed some help. I only realized it was a trick until after I got there. And when I tried to come back, Jasper reminded me that Carlisle said that we needed to respect Edward's wishes."

"And you went along with it?!" I practically screamed. This was Alice!

"No, of course not. I tried every time I could to get a plane ticket back, but Jasper was always there. Ever since the seventh attempt, he monitored what I did."

"And it didn't come across you to, I don't know, pick up the phone and call me?" I asked.

"Carlisle was monitoring the phone calls I made," She said. "I'm so sorry, Bella," She apologized again, reaching forward and pulling me into a hug.

She was apologizing a lot. I didn't like the sound of this. I pulled back. "Alice, what's wrong? What happened?"

She avoided my eyes, looking everywhere but me. "What happened, Alice?" I repeated, my voice scarily calm.

Alice finally looked up at me. "Well, to get Jasper to let me come, I told him that you had jumped off the cliff," She explained.

I nodded. There was obviously more to the story when she took a pause. "And?"

She hesitated before she said, "And he told Rosalie."

My stomach dropped. "What? No!" I said, panic bubbling in my stomach.

"I'm sorry!" She said again. "I told him not to tell anyone, but when Rose asked where I went, he told her without thinking!"

"But, but that means..." I blubbered.

"I know," She said quietly. "But I packed a bag for you, so we'll be all ready to go, just in case."

I nodded numbly, and she leaned forward and gave me another hug. After about a minute, she said, "Bella, what is that God awful wet dog smell? Is Jacob here?"

"Oh," I stated, pulling back from her and looking down at my clothes. Sam probably rubbed off on Emily's old clothes. "Well, yeah, but these are Emily Young's clothes. Jacob got them for me after I fell off of the cliff."

"Right, you became friends with the mutts," She almost spat out venomously. I was about to point out that one of those mutts actually had become one of my best friend's when Jacob walked in.

"At least we're not bloodsuckers," he tossed out. I turned around, giving him an annoyed look, and all he had to say for himself was, "I had to see if you were safe."

"What happened to not being able to protect me here?" I asked.

"I guess I don't care," he responded, which made me feel immediately guilty.

"Well, you're delusional if you think I'm gonna hurt her!" Alice argued, clearly offended.

"No, you're just a harmless Cullen," Jake sulked. "I'm talking about the other bloodsucker, who tried to kill Bella because of you."

She gasped, a tiny hand going to her mouth. "Victoria! I've been so worried about what was happening with you and Edward that I completely forgot about her! That was an important part of the book, I probably should have paid more attention to that."

"Wait, what?" Jacob asked. "Book?"

I gave Alice a hard glare, and she winced. Yeah, my glares are that powerful. "Looks like that cats out of the bag," I muttered, pulling myself up off of the chair.

"I'm going to go get some air," Alice announced. "If it was physically possible, I think I'm gonna vomit," She groaned, before giving Jacob a hard glare and moves to leave.

I reached a hand out, stopping her. "You're not?.."

She smiled gently. "I'm right here, Bella. Honestly, I'm not going anywhere." She gave me one final smile before she went out the back door.

I turned to Jacob. Even though the situation was so dire, I was excited to tell the last major character the truth about the books. Sigh. Goodbye Twilight inside jokes. "Look, there's something you should know. And it'll overwhelm you."

"What is it? You can tell me anything, Bella."

Oh God, how was I supposed to explain this? I was still on Edward watch, so I had to be careful with time management. "First, promise you'll keep an open mind about it."

He looked at me strangely, before he nodded. "Okay."

I sighed. "Stay here, I have a better way to show you," I told him, then started for my room.

I opened the door to my closet and reached all the way into the back where I kept my Twilight stuff. Since Edward (the jerkface) still had my Twilight book, the first Twilight movie and the New Moon book would have to do for now. I debated giving him Eclipse, but I shot that idea down quickly. He might get ideas in his head to win me over, and that was the last thing I needed.

My room was still a complete mess from when I trashed it, and I remembered when I cut my hands. I looked down at my hands and saw just a few cuts, nothing too bad. I also didn't think I had glass in my hands, and I was so god damn sick of glass. I might start using plastic or paper stuff from now on.

Since I was in no rush to get to Jacob, I started picking up a few things from off of my floor. I had just fixed my lamp when a phone started ringing downstairs, and that can only mean one thing.

It stopped ringing, and I heard Jake boomed, "Swan residence."

Everything clicked in my body and I was running. "JAKE NO!"

I bolted down the stairs, but I was still fuzzy from my cliff fall (I still refusec to call it jumping), and I missed the last few steps, bending my ankle.

"He's not here." Shit no, it was definitely Edward! "She's not either." Probably talking about Aunt Sarah.

"God damn it, Jake, don't tell him that!" I shouted, and as quickly as I could I pulled myself off of the floor. I clumsily stalked into the kitchen, wincing with every step, but I gritted my teeth and tried to ignore the pain.

But the teeth gritting didn't stop me from screaming when Jacob said, "They're at the funeral." Harry's. Using all of the force I had, I slammed my body into Jacob's, but it still wasn't freaking enough to knock him over. I snatched the phone from his hand, praying that he was still there. I spoke into the phone, "Edward! Love, it's me! I'm alive, I promise! I'm not dead. It's not my funeral, I swear. I. Am. Alive!"

But the truth was, I heard the click before I even started talking into the phone.

"No," I whispered as I dropped the phone, sinking into the ground. The adrenaline in my body was now gone, and I felt the full force of my throbbing ankle.

A pair of manicured hands grabbed my shoulders. "Come on, Bella, we have to go. It's all gonna be okay, I promise," Alice soothed as she lifted me up from the ground. "I'm going to go get the car ready. Five minutes, 'kay?"

"Less than, remember? You packed my stuff already," I reminded her. "I just have to grab a few things, and then we're gone. How is he? Is he okay?"

"That idiot took off like a bat out of hell a few minutes ago. If we hurry, we might beat him there," She smirked. "But just to make sure that we are, let's speed this process up."

I nodded and went for my room. I barely heard Alice and Jacob arguing as I hurriedly made my way to my room. I grabbed the bag Alice had packed, and starting checking to make sure that I had everything. Clothes, check. Pills for the ankle-after a quick trip to the bathroom-check. Good running shoes, check. Passport, check. I grabbed the Twilight movie and New Moon book, and that was all I needed.

"We're ready to roll!" I declared as I made my way down the steps.

"Never say that again," Alice scolded, and I looked down as I said, "Okay. But let's go already!"

"Where are you going?" Jacob asked.

"No time to explain," I told him as Alice and I started for the door. "It's Edward, he needs me."

"Bella, he left you," He quickly said, following us. "He doesn't want you anymore, remember?"

"I don't care!" I announced, spinning around. "He saved my life, I have to save his." Since I still had to leave the stupid note, I turned Aunt Sarah's over, and scribbled my own on the back before sticking it on the fridge. "I have to go," I said, pushing past Jacob and making my way for the car, where Alice was already seated and ready to go.

"What about your aunt?" He asked, following me. "And your uncle?"

"I'm 18, I can do what I want, it's completely legal," I reminded him, going over to the passengers side. I pulled the door open and pushed the bag into the back. "Plus, I left a note, so get off of my back." I climbed into the seat.

Before Alice could start the car and drive, Jacob stuck his head into her window, and she turned and gave me a glare. "Bella, please. Just, stay here. For Sarah. For Charlie. For me."

What Jacob couldn't understand-what he refused to understand-was that life with him was never going to be enough for me. I didn't want to be a wolf girl. I didn't want to have to be constantly cooking and cleaning for people who I didn't even like! I was a vampire girl, through and through, and that would never change.

I reached into my bag and took out the DVD and book. I shoved them towards his head, and he took his head out so that he could put his hand in to grab them. "Watch and read. I'll promise I'll explain the rest when I get back."

The stupid idiot asked one last time. "I'm begging you. Please."

I took a deep breath before shaking my head. "I'm sorry, Jake. Goodbye."

With that, he finally pulled himself out of the window, and Alice started the car. I put my seat belt on, and she started driving fast. Like, Edward fast.

I just hoped it was enough to get to Volterra before the stupid love of my life did.

TBC...

This update was fast, wasn't it?

Ugh, I just want New Moon over and done with. Sorry if it's pretty much all by the movie but I do not want to take the time to actually redo every chapter for this book. I'll probably be doing that for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

Okay, so hopefully next update will come soon!
