Tobias and I have been dating for a month officially. I sit in bed, thinking about the day that Tobias learned about his nickname that Christina gave him.
Flashback: Uriah runs up to me at the end of the day at clinical. "Tris, I am inviting everyone over to my house, you in?"
I groan as Chris says, "She will be there."
"Fine, it isn't like I have anything to do anyway," I mumble as I look at my cell phone to find another flirtatious text from Four something about how our first kiss would be epic. I feel my cheeks heat as I read the text, and text him back an emoji of a wink. Tobias and I were flirting back and forth every day with messages, but we were only friends, neither of us had made a move towards the other, to progress our relationship. Uriah, Marlene, Lynn, Christina, Will, and I sit around the table, trying to figure out what to do on a Saturday night.
"Where are we going to go all dressed up?" Marlene asks.
"What about a movie?" I ask.
"No, there is nothing new out anyway," Christina says as she picks at a piece of paper sitting on the table.
"Well, we can't just sit here staring at one another all," Uriah says sarcastically. "It is a Saturday night."
Zeke walks in two seconds later with a few guys that I don't recognize, but I assume work with him at the hospital. My eyes are immediately drawn to Four. He is sporting a five o'clock shadow. He is dressed in casual clothes. Internally, I curse Chris for playing Barbie with me, for doing my hair and makeup. I feel overdressed now that all these guys are here, and the thought makes me feel uncomfortable.
"We are ordering pizza." Zeke says, "You guys want any?"
"Sure," Uriah says ecstatically.
"I guess we are staying here," Will says.
"I guess," Lynn says as I shake my head yeah. I catch Four staring at me, but he must not notice it is me because his eyes go back to scanning the room. I don't blame him. I don't look like myself at all. Zeke and his girlfriend, Shauna, I think her name is drag Four into the room. He looks uncomfortable with his surroundings. I move out of the chair that I am in, walk over to him, and attempt to mess with him, to try to make him more comfortable.
"Hey, cutie!" I say using my best flirting voice.
"Hello, Miss." He says, his voice harsh.
I stand there, staring at him, "Can I help you with something?" He asks.
"Nope, just enjoying the view of a handsome doctor," I say, a smile playing on my lips.
I see him roll his eyes at me, and we stand there awkwardly by the chip table. I attempt to flirt with him, but he is very short with me. He is nothing like the Four I have come to know. He is very closed off and not forthcoming at all. Zeke walks over to Four, hands him a beer. He talks it, then takes a sip from it. Zeke walks away from both of us. Four moves to walk away, but Zeke walks back over. He slaps Four on the back as he shouts to Uriah, "Hey Uri, my friend here has it bad for a girl. What do you suggest he do to get her attention?"
"No idea. Maybe talk to her. Wait, Four has a heart? Uriah asks.
"Of course, I have a heart, you idiot!" Four grumbles.
Clearly, he is in a sour mood, I think to myself.
"Oh, I know you could stop acting like the crab ass you truly are inside," Zeke says laughing. I giggle silently to myself as I think, Poor Four.
"Knock the crap off, Zeke!" Four snaps, smacking Zeke in the arm.
"Ouch! Since when have you become the violent type?" Zeke asks.
"Since you dragged me out of my house, and made me come to this stupid get together." Four mumbles.
"You better hope your girl who has caught your attention likes someone who is violent." Zeke laughs. Four punches Zeke in the arm and walks away from him, and me.
Four seems to be in a piss ass mood. I decide to mess with him more to see how far I can push him. Christina puts music on, and she drags me into the middle of the room. She starts dancing with me, spinning me in circles. I don't normally dance, but having had a few too many drinks, the drinks are beginning to take effect. I glance around the room, looking for Four. Will and Uriah are playing video games. Lynn is in the corner pouting. That girl wouldn't know fun if it were to bite her in the ass. She eventually joins Will and Uriah playing video games. Marlene joins Chris and me dancing. We dance together, our hands in the air, swaying to the music. Zeke and Four look to be arguing about who knows what. At this point, I could care less. If he wants to be that way then let him. Suddenly, his eyes meet mine on our makeshift dance floor. I bite my lip, smile, and wink at him. Another song comes on. Christina and I start singing and jumping around, enjoying ourselves.
I catch Four's eyes staring again, I sing to him, "Forget what you thought. Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught. So just turn around and forget what you saw. Cause good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught." I wink at him and toss my hair over my shoulder.
Four smiles slightly at me as he lifts an eyebrow at me. The smile is a private one that is only shared between us. He seems to be enjoying the song, watching me dance with the other girls. After the song ends, I skip over to him, to try my hand at flirting with him again. I feel more courageous. Although, I think maybe it is the alcohol.
"Four, do you not recognize me?" I ask.
"Where would I know you from?" He asks.
"The hospital maybe. It is me, Tris." I say, smirking at him.
His mouth drops slightly as he asks, "Tris? Is that really you?"
"Of course, it is me," I giggle.
"He grins at me, saying, "So good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught?"
I roll my eyes, saying, " Pleases, I don't have a bad bone in my body."
He grins at me as he says, "Sure, you don't. I guess we will just have to find out if that is the case, and if that is the case then we will have to correct that, won't we?" I giggle, shaking my head as he continues, "Really Tris, is that you?"
"Yup, it is really me,"
"Wow! You look pretty. Although, you look just as beautiful without your makeup on." He whispers to me, his fingertips touching the back of my hand. The sensations causing shivers to go up my spine.
The rest of the night is spent flirting with one another. During the evening, a drunken Chris comes up to me saying, "Look Tris! It is Dr. McHotty! You should totally get with him. I bet he is great in bed. Stop messing around and just date him already!"
My cheeks heat at her comments, as I see Four lift his eyebrow, shaking his head, as I laugh saying "Yes, Chris. It is Dr. McHotty, but you are very drunk." I ignore her other comment about Four and me dating.
When Chris leaves to go find Will in the house, Four turns to me, saying, "I was wondering who this Dr. McHott that I have been hearing all the nursing students talk about. I was going to ask you who it was. They have all been talking about how good looking he is, and how scary he can be. Am I really that scary?"
I grin at him as I say, "Well, that would be you. I personally don't think you are that scary."
He grins back at me as he says, "Oh really, I'm not scary? Perhaps, I need to change that!"
"No, I like the soft teddy bear that I know that you are," I whisper.
"Shh, don't tell anyone. I worked hard to gain my hard-ass reputation." He whispers.
"I won't dream of it. I promise." I say, smirking at him.
"You want to get out of here," Four asks me, smiling.
"Sure."
My phone vibrating startles me. I look to see a text message from Tobias. He surprises me with a text message that reads:
Morning Beautiful! I hope that you have a good day at clinical. I can't wait to see your smiling face. I miss you. I am picking you up this morning. Please be ready for 6 am. Also, bring a change of clothes for after you are done today. Love you, T/4
I quickly get up and dressed as fast as I can. I pack a bag with extra clothes, then eat cereal for breakfast. I look out in the driveway, Chris is already gone. I head into the kitchen to make myself lunch, and as I am finishing making lunch, I hear a knocking sound on the door. I open it to find Tobias standing there, smirking.
"Good Morning, Beautiful." He says.
"Good Morning, Handsome." I smile.
"Are you ready to go? I have to get to the hospital early for rounds or else my attending may just murder me." He says, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Don't worry. I am ready. Wouldn't want poor Four to get into trouble?" I say the last part in a baby voice.
He shakes his head, pulls open the door for me of his car. Tobias races to the hospital, and we make it there in record time. Tobias pulls into a parking space near the entrance. He kisses me goodbye then takes off running. He runs so fast that all I see is a blur of grey where he should be.
I head up to the unit to start my day with Tori. Later in the morning, I am sitting at the nurse's station documenting on a patient when I feel a pair of hands come over my eyes and a voice says "Guess who, Nurse Prior."
I reply sarcastically, "I don't know. Is it the Easter bunny?"
The voice chuckles, saying, "Nope."
I feel one hand move from off my eyes, grabbing a hold of my wrist. The other hand is still over my eyes, and the voice says "Come with me."
I follow because I already know who the voice belongs to. All of a sudden, I hear a door shut, and I feel a pair of lips press against mine. I smile, pull away, saying "I know who those lips belong to. They belong to Dr. Tobias Eaton a.k.a Dr. McHotty."
He removes his hand from my eyes, I see light with a smiling Tobias. I smile to myself and Tobias says "What?"
I reply "Nothing. I was just thinking about when you learned about your nickname."
He grins at me, laughing. Tobias pulls me out of the supply closet saying "Guess who gets to do his first solo surgery today, and guess who pulled a few strings to let his girlfriend watch that surgery?"
I reply saying, "Would that happen to be my gorgeous boyfriend, who is a resident?"
Tobias laughs, says, "Of course, it would be, and I have already asked Tori. She agreed it will be a great learning experience for you."
I follow Tobias to the OR, change into different scrubs. He gives me a tour of an OR similar to one that he will be working in, and then debriefs me on the procedure he will be performing. He will be removing someone's gallbladder. I can't wait to watch him in his element, performing surgeries. I know that it is his true passion. He deals with Med Surg cases when he has to, but he comes to life in the OR. I can tell as I am watching him that he is in his element. He moves with grace, finesse, and confidence.
After the surgery is over, I look through the door to see a very angry looking Marcus. I silently pray that Marcus hasn't figured out that Tobias and I are dating. Then I will surely get removed from the surgical unit just because Marcus is cruel like that. Not to mention, I am sure that he will find ways to cause problems for Tobias.
I walk over to Tobias, who is discussing something with the other nurses in the OR. I see one of the nurses put her hand on Tobias's chest, and I see him cringe and stiffen. I see him narrow his eyes at her, she pulls her hand away quickly like she has been burned. I walk over pissed about the scene playing out in front of me. I say "Goodbye Dr. Eaton" quickly. With those words, I turn on my heel. I start to walk out the door, but I hear Tobias following me. "Tris! Wait! I will walk you back to your unit." He says.
I snap "I'm fine. I can walk back myself. I'm not a child!"
I feel tears starting to burn my eyes. Tobias looks at me with pleading eyes. He says "What happened? Talk to me."
"Nothing I am fine," I say.
"You don't have to pretend with me. Talk to me. I will walk you back. I have to check up on a patient on that unit anyways."
I reluctantly agree. I don't want Tobias to walk me back to the unit. I don't want him to see me get yelled at by Marcus for being in the OR when I am not supposed to be. I walk out of the OR ready to face Marcus's wrath.
Marcus screams, "Miss Prior whatever do you think you are doing in the OR and not on your unit?"
Tobias walks over to Marcus, and he says, "Hello, I'm Dr. Eaton. Please don't be mad at Tris. It is my fault that she was in the OR. She tried to tell me, no, but I kept pushing her until she said she would come to the OR with me, and watch the procedure. The patient who I just performed the surgery on is one of Tris's patients, and I thought since she had taken care of him preoperatively, and will be taking care of him postoperatively that she would like to see what happened during surgery."
Marcus stares down Four saying, "Who gave you that authority, Dr. Eaton?"
Tobias's stare hardens as he says, "No one did. I did ask Tori, and she agreed it would be a great learning experience for Miss. Prior."
Marcus snaps, "I will be going to your attending about this Dr. Eaton. As far as Miss Prior is concerned. I am her teacher you understand? I will deem what is fit for her to observe, and what a good learning experience is."
Tobias lowers his voice saying, "Marcus, my attending is perfectly aware of the situation, and that Miss Prior was in my OR, in fact, he was in the OR himself with me. I have seen the way that you treat your students, and how you constantly taunt them. It will not be a problem to go to the head of the nursing department at Dauntless University, and let them in on how you really are."
A shiver goes up my spine. I have never seen Tobias like this, if I am honest with myself this side of him is scary as hell. Marcus is still angry. He stomps away. You could almost see the smoke coming out of Marcus's ears.
"Watch your back, Dr. Eaton," Marcus says as he is turning to leave.
After Marcus is gone Tobias says, "I'm sorry Tris, I didn't mean for you to get into trouble."
"It's fine. I'm just glad, you put him in his place. You did a great job in the OR today. You looked like a skilled doctor. Not to mention, you looked pretty cute operating." I say flirting with him.
Tobias blushes, he grabs my hand, and then says, "Let's go, Nurse Prior. I need to drop you off at your unit, then I need to go inform the family about the operation and check up on my patients. I will see you after your shift is over."
On the way back to the unit, Tobias mimics Marcus in funny voices trying to get me to laugh. It works, by the time, I am back to the unit I am laughing so hard I am crying.
I am about to inform Tobias that Chris is supposed to be driving me home today when he says, "Chris had to leave early today because she wasn't feeling well. She asked me to give you a ride home today. Of course, being the great boyfriend that I am, I said yes."
Tobias drops me off at my unit, giving me a kiss, then walks away quickly, saying "See you around three o'clock."
I wave goodbye to him. The rest of the day is uneventful. Tori dismisses me at 3 o'clock on the nose. I walk downstairs to find Tobias talking to a woman that I don't know. A surge of jealousy came up in me out of nowhere when I see her hug him. After she walks away, I walk over to him. He tries to hug me, but I am limp in his arms and don't hug him back. He asks "What is the matter?"
I say, "Who is that, and why are they hugging you?"
Tobias says "Oh, that was Lauren. She works in the Labor and Delivery department. She was hugging me because she had just heard about my grandmother passing. She is a close family friend. There is nothing to worry about Tris. I see her as a little sister."
"Oh, I'm sorry for overreacting," I whisper
"Come on, my jealous, beautiful, girlfriend," Tobias says, laughing.
"I am not jealous," I pout.
"Of course not." He says, shaking his head, laughing. I smack him as we walk out to his car.
Tobias asks, "What do you want to do now that you are free from the hospital?"
"I don't care what we do, as long as I can get out of these scrubs," I say
Tobias grins playfully, "Well, I can certainly help you out of those scrubs."
I shake my head saying "Will you get your mind out of the gutter?"
Tobias laughs and continues his driving. We pull up into a condo complex. The condos are made out of brick.
Tobias says, "I hope you don't mind, but I decided that since we always go over to your place that maybe we could come over to mine."
I smile, getting out of the car, and say, "Of course, Tobias, I would love to see your condo, and spend more time with you at your house."
Let me know what everyone thinks of this chapter. Does Marcus need a chill pill or what? Until Next Time!
