Once inside, the team scattered, Grant, Ellie, Malcolm, and Sarah took to the stairs, Tim, Lex, Kelly, and Alayna went to the left, Hammond, Dave, Laura, and James went to the right. The large windows in the living room and office let in a decent amount of light, despite the arriving darkness. The sun had started to set; it was about 7:30, which meant they had at least a good half hour before darkness took over the island. The rooms were dusty, and cobwebs covered the nooks and crannies of the rooms. Lex and her group began to look through the office for a source of power, Hammond and his group rested on the sturdy furniture in the living room, Grant, Ellie, Malcolm, and Sarah were like blind mice upstairs, Sarah managed to find a box along the wall that seemed that it would have breakers for the power supply in it. "Hey, I think I found our ticket for power in here!" Sarah said. Ellie hugged the wall feeling for Sarah in the darkness "Ouch, easy there killer!" Sarah said playfully.
"Sorry, didn't see your foot there, I am a blonde you know!" Ellie said with a laugh.
"Oh, you're fine Ellie; I think this is the box, feel around for a switch of some sorts." Both Sarah and Ellie felt around in the darkness until, "Bingo! Got it," Ellie said she switched the handle from down to up, there was a buzzing sound, then like magic, the lights fluttered on, then went out. "Oh, damn, almost had it hon!" Alan said, "There should be a door handle of some sorts so we can access the breakers, try the far right." Sarah felt for the handle, once she had it she tugged at it to open the door; it was shut pretty tightly, "Ellie, can you give me a hand?" Sarah asked. They both pried at the door; finally it flung open, knocking Sarah and Ellie to the floor. Sarah began to switch the left side of the breakers as Ellie did the right side, then Ellie took the handle, and moved it downward, then up once more, the buzz was heard again, the lights flickered on for good. "Good job you two! What clever girls we have Alan," Ian said jokingly, both Ellie and Sarah glared at him, and then smirked. "Power is on down here!" Lex hollered from downstairs, they headed down the steps and found the group seated on the living room furniture. "Well looks like we are staying here for the night, it is getting dark outside," Laura said, "And hopefully there are no intru…" Laura stopped talking; a shrill sound came from the other room. "What the hell was that?" Dave asked, alarmed. The sound was heard again, and again, "Sounds like a bird in danger, listen to how loud it is!" Kelly said. "I hope it's a damn bird!" Dave said. Then out of nowhere, a little green dinosaur appeared, bobbing its head back and forth like a chicken, Grant knew what it was immediately, "Compy, don't be alarmed, they aren't aggressive." Despite his warning, the girls shrieked and Dave jumped. "I saw those on Site B, a pack of them devoured one of Roland's men, I'm getting the hell outta here, I don't trust it, and where there is one there is always…" Ian stopped mid-sentence as more of the little green dinosaurs started to appear, soon there was about twenty standing in front of the group "I am with dad, we need to move, quickly, go, go, outside!" Kelly yelled. The Compy's started to scatter each heading in a different direction, there was a thundering noise in the distance, which made the windows vibrate, and dust started to fall from the ceiling.
The thundering got louder and faster, making the ceiling fan lose its bearings and come crashing to the floor of the living room, sparks flew, people scattered, and it was like a haunted house, without the clowns. With the thundering sound getting even louder, the group scurried into the office, then it stopped, everyone stared toward the window, a heavy shadow fell on the glass against the moonlight, "Jesus Christ!" James hollered. "Shut the bloody hell up!" Hammond hollered back, the shadow shifted, whatever it was looked at them, an almost purring sound erupted from outside, it sent shivers up Ellie's spine, that sound was all too familiar, "Oh my god!" she whispered.
"What?" Grant said.
"Listen," she said.
"Oh god, everyone get away from that window, NOW!" Grant hollered. The head came crashing through the window, everyone jumped backward, screaming erupted from within the bungalow, the animal started to thrash about, roaring loudly, people scattered. Ellie, Grant, Sarah, Dave and Laura headed toward the back of the house, Ian grabbed Kelly and Tim, and headed out the front door, Alayna, Lex, Hammond and James ran toward the front door, James tripped and fell. "HELP ME!" he screamed, Lex turned to help him, but it was too late, the Rex tore through the other window and sent glass particles flying, it lowered its head and grabbed James by the legs, as it bit down, the sound of bones cracking from the pressure resounded through the room, James let out a horrid screech, Hammond grabbed Lex and pulled her away and shoved her out the door. The Rex lifted James into the air, blood started to flow from his leg, he screamed loud and the Rex dropped him on the ground outside the bungalow, it stared at him from above and cocked its head to the right, roared once more, then picked him up by his head. Blood started to flow from his neck, his body dropped to the ground again, the Rex swallowed his head whole, the picked up the body and headed down the path towards the visitors center.
"Go, go, go! Run!" Ian hollered to Tim and Kelly, they were sprinting down the path toward the visitor's center, the Rex trailing behind them, it started to pick up speed. "Go left!" Ian commanded.
"There is no path though dad!" Kelly screamed back.
"I know, just go!"
"Dad!"
"Go!" he said one last time, the headed into the brush, just as the Rex thundered past them, with James' limp body in its mouth. They waited in the bushes until the coast was clear, and headed back toward the bungalow; hopefully the others were in the vicinity.
Lex and Alayna sprinted down the path toward the opposite end of the bungalow, they could see a bunker in the distance, Hammond was far behind them, hobbling to catch up with the girls, "Lex darling, wait!" he hollered. The girls stopped and sprinted back toward the old man, Lex couldn't get the gory scene of James' death out of her head, while Alayna was too scatter brained to remember anything, it was a blur to her. Hammond was out of breath, and he too had trouble gathering what had just happened, all he knew was the Rex could still be near the bungalow, and that he was far too old to be running from a damn dinosaur. "I'm sorry Grandpa, when that happens your mind just goes into survival mode, I seemed to forget you were older than us!" Lex said with a smirk.
She was now in her mid-thirties and still had her looks and sense of humor, Hammond was so proud of her, since what had happened so many years ago, she had grown into a beautiful young woman. Now the owner of a popular new company called LexTech, which produced all your technological needs, from computers to televisions, she founded the company about five years ago, and since its launch, the company had grown to more than 500 stores in the US and 300 in Canada. Hammond had taught her well when it came to business, but her company had succeeded mostly due to her computer savvy ways. He was so proud of her, and so were her parents that had recently remarried. She had blessed Hammond and her parents with three grandchildren, Aubrey, Nikki, and Hallie, and each was a spitting image of their mother.
"Why don't we head back toward the Bungalow and see if the others are near?" Hammond suggested.
"Sure, I don't see why not, besides I am sure Alayna needs to be reunited with her father," Lex said while winking at Alayna.
"Oh, yeah, I miss my daddy already! I am 16 you know, but I agree with your grandpa, lets head back!" Alayna said with a smirk.
Grant, Ellie, Sarah, Laura and Dave stormed out the back door, and didn't look back. They headed into the tree's, and began to climb, once they reached a decent height Alan did a head count, all five were accounted for including himself. "Holy shit, I definitely don't remember that species, but by the tiny arms with two claws, I am guessing that was a Rex, correct Dr. Grant?" Laura said.
"Correct, Dr. Sorkin, but she has definitely evolved, did you see the skin color and the facial structure, it is definitely a lot smoother than before, but the skin, it seems to be tanner than I remember it."
"Well it has been twenty years honey, and let me just say, after that long, she is still the scariest dinosaur I have ever seen, besides the raptors," Ellie said.
"So what you all are saying it that thing is a real Tyrannosaurus Rex?" Dave asked, in shock.
"Yes, Dave, a full grown female T-Rex that is definitely something to be conscious about, at least we know she is here," Sarah said. "Who was screaming? Before we stormed outta the back door I heard more glass shatter and someone scream.'
"Well it sounded like a man, the only men on this island are Dave, myself, Ian, and Hammond, ah, and James"
"It wasn't Ian that isn't his scream, and it wasn't you or Dave, it's either Hammond or James, and it sounded too clear to be an old mans."
"Well I guess we know who has departed from this god forsaken place, I wonder what happened," Laura said, in amazement. "It happened so fast, I didn't think she moved that fast, raptors, yes, but Rex, no way."
"I wouldn't be so surprised Dr. Sorkin, T-Rexes vision acuity is based on movement, but she relies heavily on sound and smell, after the fan fell from the ceiling, and everyone hollered, she knew where we were without us even having a chance, and when I told everyone to move, she must have seen the shadows and knew to attack, my question is why she attacked, there had to be enough food for her to hunt on this island."
"Well I wouldn't be so sure about that, if the lysine ran out, most of our dinosaurs, preferably herbivores would have died out, unless somehow they survived without it," Sorkin explained.
"Actually they did survive without it, I have proof, I was on Site B and the animals ate a high concentration of amino acids to replace the lysine supplement, which over time, allowed them to survive without the supplement, it's in my book, I published it after the event in San Diego," Sarah added.
"Yes, Sarah, but not unless the plants were from the time period of these animals, Hammond often replaced the dinosaurs habitat with specific plants from the certain species time period, which would add to the overall health of the dinosaurs, but unless Site B didn't contain Paleo plants then the only things that would allow the dinosaurs to thrive would have to be a nutrient rich diet of ferns, and leaves with a high concentration of the necessary nutrients provided during their time period," Ellie justified.
"Listen, all this talk of science, plants, and dinosaurs is pretty neat but I would like to make sure my daughter is alright, along with the rest of us that are still here," Dave said becoming aggravated.
"Point taken, let's head back toward the bungalow, they should be in that area," Grant said. They descended from the trees and headed back towards the bungalow, hoping the others were there.
