"Brandon?" Crystal stared at the agent beside her who was groaning. The guy looked like he was going to lose conscious from the pain of the wound. That nasty wound.

"I...I'm not feeling so good..." he moaned softly.

Crystal stepped closer to the agent...but she stopped dead and stared at the wounded agent in alarm.

"B-Brandon?!"

'Surrounded?'

Dan glanced at the church from the remains of what could be a wall. Dawn came out quite slow but Dan could still see the destruction in the area. Despite the destruction, there was no one on sight, which made Dan felt uneasy. When there was no one on sight, it could mean that there's an ambush waiting...or something far worse. The latter could be worse than death...but he won't think of it.

He pulled out the gun and kept his other hand close to the grenade in his pocket...in case of emergency. Whoever stuff the weapons in the black mustang...Dan hoped that he...or she wouldn't mind if he 'borrowed' them.

The front door was wide open but the sun light couldn't reach inside the church. Dan approached the door slowly...but then he stopped before he reached the front when he noticed the broken stained glass window at the side... Those winged mutants were here.

'Always look around the front door. There might be signs of danger inside.' James used to tell Dan that when they used to play together. 'Front door is the quickest way to die.'

...and he was right.

Entering through the front door would be a mistake so Dan stepped away from it. He found the broken fence and dragged it to the window. "Worst ladder, made by me." Dan mused to himself as he climbed up the fence and glanced in the church. As expected, the hall was a mess. The pews, tables and the candle stands were wrecked, the carpet was shredded and the chandeliers shattered on the broken tiled floor.

While he was climbing over the window, he heard something flapping above. Glancing up, he almost fell off the window.

Those flying mutants...and a huge colony of gray bats hung from the roof with their wings wrapped to themselves. One thing for certain that Dan felt good about was that they all seemed to be sleeping. None of them noticed him coming in.

He got down through the remains of shredded curtains and went down on the floor quietly.

"...help..."

Dan spotted an agent lying near the ceremonial altar. He held to his gun tight as he approached the agent with caution. "...God...there were so many..." The young male agent groaned. It took him a few moments to noticed Dan approaching him.

"...Who are you?...what are you doing here?"

"Getting you out." Dan extended his hand to the agent. "Are you hurt?"

"I think my left ankle broke." he reached for Dan and stood up slowly and tried not to yell in pain. "...guess I'm damn lucky that the mutants didn't noticed my lying here. Probably thought that I'm dead or something...Others though..." the agent looked up to the ceiling and went silent.

"We...better get out of here. I told agent Brandon that I'll help his te-"

"Brandon?" the agent cried in alarm...a bit loud. The mutants in the ceiling twitched a bit but thankfully they weren't awake. "He went to you?" the agent was getting agitated. "Please tell me that you shoot him."

Dan was taken by surprise. "Why would I shoot your fellow agent down? He looked barely able to-"

"You don't understand! Our agents that were bitten by these flying mutants ar-"

Dan jumped when a dagger that came from nowhere pinned on the agent's forehead like a dart board. The agent dropped dead on Dan's feet. A low growl echoed through the church's hall and Dan saw the assailant. A scrawny humanoid in ripped black cassock dragging a long bloodied chain with a small blade at the end waddled from the dark corner of the altar. It pulled out a dagger from its sleeves and flung it at Dan's direction. Dan got down behind the pew on time.

Of all the mutants that Dan encountered so far, the priest was the one that made him uncomfortable. Dan shook the idea. That thing used to be a priest...so he shouldn't feel bad putting it out of misery.

The situation got worse when the flying mutants and the bats woke up and started to swooped down towards Dan. He managed to shoot some of them down but while he was busy shooting, the dead priest yanked Dan from his spot and flung him towards the statue near the altar. The flying mutants circled around the hall like vultures, waiting for the priest to finish the prey for them.

Dan groaned as he tried to get up...and he froze when he noticed that he was only a few inches away from the tip of the angel statue's spear. The chain suddenly wrapped around Dan's wrist and violently pulled Dan towards the priest. A sadistic grin appeared on its pale face as the priest continued to pull Dan to itself. All of Dan's struggle to pull the chain off was useless, even when he blew off half of its head with his gun shots. It left Dan with one option when he ran out of bullets.

When the priest tugged him again, instead of struggling in this strange tug of war, Dan ran in and kicked its head hard. The dead priest was dazed by the hit and Dan took that opportunity to wrapped the chain around its neck and twisted it with a loud snap. He removed the chain around his wrist and then deliver his last kick at its body, sending it towards the same angel statue. The spear pierced its body and the dead priest finally stopped moving.

It wasn't over yet. With that monster out of the way, Dan had the flying mutants to deal with.

"You've got to be kidding me..." Dan muttered as the entire flying mutants colony flew down to him.

[Back in the hospital...]

Amy pressed herself at the corner of the room and screamed in horror as the dead agent unfurled his wings and crawled slowly towards her.

Author's note: I could only wish...that I can draw the fighting scene here... Eh, found the info from a source, saying that the flying mutant's name is Brandon. What a shocker...

(This chapter...was inspired from the time when I visit the church (forgot the name) and...wow...sweet statues and glass. Love the choirs too.) Pew...is the seat in the church, right? -_-

Thanks for viewing.
