Author's Note: Soo, sorry? Um, in my defense I had three one acts to act in (first time acting by the way it went great) and then a musical (we did Willy Wonka). Now, I have to post this in two parts because the notebook in which i was writing part of it got soaked in coffee. What can I say? It's a problem. Anyhoo, enjoy all!
Balin ushered the horse on further as they entered the small village of the Shire. It was the fourth day of the search for the hobbits. He had sent Ori ahead of him, to search for one of the maidens in the village while he searched for the hobbit of Prince Thorin.
They worsen. Hurry the search along.
The letter from Dis was not reassuring at all, and with the princes' conditions worsening, Balin was under pressure to find the hobbits. But Gandalf's words resonated through his mind and the older dwarf had trusted his instincts for way too many years to not trust them now.
"Master Balin! Come at once!" Bombur shouted.
Balin hurried his horse to the front of the toy shop of Bifur and Bofur. "What is it?"
"We may have found one. She is the apprentice to the the Ur brothers. Mirabella, is her name," Ori said breathlessly. He was bright red from the run over to Balin's pony and once the old dwarf came down, he immediately bombarded him with information.
When they entered the brightly colored toy shop, Balin immediately focused in on the small hobbit between Bofur and Bombur. Sitting on a brightly colored ottoman, the woman fiddled with her apron with her head bowed. She lifted her head and Balin immediately recognized the blue eyes. Dwalin growled out in Khuzdul that she held a fire in her similar to Fili's young maiden.
"What is your name?" Balin said softly, ignoring Dwalin and Bombur's rough Khuzdul conversation that seemed to unsettle the hobbit lass, causing her to fiddle with the doll in her hands.
"Mirabella, your Advisorship. I am the apprentice to Lord Bofur and Bifur."
"She be a good lass, Balin. Never hurt a fly," Bofur added. "Her painting's finer than some of Gloin's jewels!"
"Will you try on this mask for us?"
Mira smiled softly, her eyes brightening when she saw the mask laying on the pillow Bifur brought in. Slowly, she rose and said, "Of course I can. Been waiting to."
Ori walked over and gently took the mask off the pillow, pressing the mask against Mira's face like he had done for the past four days. But unlike the others, the mask slotted perfectly with her features, and as the mask was placed, a bright light filled the room. The dwarves all fell to their knees, shouts to Mahal ringing through the air.
"It fits...the mask fits!" Ori shouted excitedly, moving away from Mirabella.
Balin turned to the dark haired hobbit woman wearing the sapphire mask. "You are Prince Fili's lass, are you not?"
"Yes I am," Mira said softly, smiling as she handed the toy doll she had finished painting earlier to Bofur. The toy maker wiped the rims of his eyes and gave his apprentice a hug.
"Here ye! Here ye! The lady of Prince Fili has been found!" Dwalin hollered as another dwarf blue a long horn that echoed throughout all of the Shire. The deep echoing sound rang low and clear, and in Erebor, Queen Belna shushed her advisers' incessant arguing as she listened to the sound. In Bag End, Tigerlily and Azaelia cried in despair as their mother tried to soothe them; Bilbo lifted his head up from where it was leaning against a barrel, wiping at his dry tears as the lark that was with him rubbed its head against his neck. Hannai dropped the bread she was cooking and ran quickly to the window to see the parade going through the Shire. Seeing Mirabella be put on the white pony that had been brought along with the Head Advisor, Hannai knew that she would be next and she turned to make some treats for her soon to be arriving guests.
In nearby Dale, Lord Bard had some trouble trying to get out of his home, as people came rushing to him for answers about what was happening, and he had to have messengers go through the streets informing of the discovery of one of the hobbits of the ball. He mused that he'd have to repeat this process twice more and hoped that this would not be a constant thing. If only there was a way to spread this process more. Perhaps I should help with the search to get the Dwarves their long overdue happiness.
Immediately, the palace was in an uproar. The advisers all began asking questions, and the guards had to stop court folk from entering the Royal Chambers because of their need to answer questions. Queen Belna rose from her seat and ran out of the council room, heading through the mountain to the royal chambers. Though that was easier said than done. In the end it took a dozen guards surrounding the queen to get her through to the rooms.
Sitting in a chair, Thorin startled at the large clang of the heavy door as his mother, clad in ceremonial clothes, burst in.
"Amad, what-" Thorin stopped, listening to the deep echoing sound. It repeated once with a short chime being returned from a tower in Erebor, signalling that they had received the signal. "They have found one," Belna whispered.
"Who? Who have they found?" asked Kili rapidly, running in from where he was in his room into the large common room.
"We do not know yet. The bells have just begun to ring. I will send out a messenger to Balin. Hopefully, it is more than one of them."
Fili sighed, his mustache braids looking bedraggled from his constant tugging. "What should we do?"
"Dress well." Belna said, watching as some light returned to the eyes of her son and grandsons. Finally, Mahal, some good news.
