The Story So far: Kai and Jinora have finally set off on their own adventure around the world , and not to long after they begin their journey they meet and befriend a Kyoshi worrier named Ming and her little sister Kyoshi. After a rocky encounter with Ming, Kuzon a Firebending earth kingdom citizen also joins the group.
Part I: Monk Gyatso: "Storm Clouds are gathering… We need you..."
It was Kai's idea to keep going, edged on by Kuzon of course but met by the disapproving and opposing glares of the girls who at the moment, the more sensible of the group, felt trying to go through weather like that was ridiculous. That at that moment, they knew waiting for tomorrow to set off was a safer choice, but most importantly Jinora sensed that something was wrong. Kai always knew never to ignore when Jinora sensed something was off, it went against his better judgement and whilst he hazily applied pressure onto the open wound that spread messily on his legs, his cries for his friend, for Jinora, meeting nothing but the sound of the rain and the thunder pouring down in response. He wished he hadn't ignored it. He really, really wished he hadn't.
"Hey Kai when we get Jinora's bison, how about we race each other to see who's the fastest" Kuzon laid on his back lazily discreetly rubbing his bare arms as he attempted to use his firebending to keep him warm in the increasingly colder weather.
"Are you sure you don't want a blanket" Ming offered giggling to her sister who was huddled closely to her side.
"I'm fine" He responded dismissively quickening the pace of his hands as he breathed fire into them trying his best to stay warm.
"Okay whatever you say" Jinora added her nose not leaving her book as she tried to grasp the blanket she was sharing with Kai to prevent it from flying off. "Oh and no one flies pepper but me" she later added on, finally turning around to see a shaking Kuozn beginning to sneeze.
"Here" Kai got up to offer his friend the fabric, "We air benders can stay warm with our breathing but you're probably going to need this, stop being stubborn we all know your cold". Kai gave his friend a knowing smirk whilst Kuzon turned red clutching the blanket in his hand as he shakily brought it around himself, his audience of Ming and Kyoshi laughing as he did so. As Kai began to make his way back to an annoyed Jinora, Kuzon whispered a thank you as he looked away to hide his embarrassment.
The giggles and laughter were short lived, the hilarious story shared by Kuzon himself moments later cut short and the small smile that decorated Kyoshi's small face dropping as she cried into her sister's shoulder in fear. The clouds were painted grey, the clear sky splattered chaotically with its darker colour and the cold air clustered it all together. When a pitiless crack opened in the sky it was like the skies were forced open as rain poured out in force. Navigating around the showers proved difficult for Kai more so when he couldn't hear the advice from Jinora who sat beside him over the sounds of the thunder going off simultaneously.
Kyoshi's cries got louder, the rain became faster , and the out of control bison plummeted from its position in the sky into the open space that now looked closer to a black hole than the clear, green landscape of the Earth kingdom. It happened to quickly for bending to be proved sufficient, the twisting and turning however relentless in its pursuit to separate the young friends felt like it went on for hours.
As Kysoshi screams became nothing but distant chatter, Kai's eyes were brimmed in tears as the loneliness he felt so long ago so foreign in its attempted acquisition of his feelings bared slowly on his soul as he screamed once more and gave up once again.
[…]
"Can anybody hear me" Kuzon however could shout on for hours, something he wouldn't be too surprised if screaming for hours was exactly what he had been doing.
The faint muffled tears of Kysohi was all he had to hear to quicken his pace , he ran to her clutching her shaking , bruised and paled frame into his arms. He whispered reassurance to the young girl who whispered her sister's name before passing out from the cold.
[…]
"Kyoshi, come on little warrior respond if you can hear me" Ming was pulling her bruised ankle behind her as she panicky looked for her sister. Tears stinging her eyes as she rested her aching body on the small rock formation she was finally able to find using her earth bending to help elevate the pain coming from her leg.
"Kyoshi, Jinora…. Kai …Kuzon , anyone" she breathed slowly to herself staring tiredly out of the cave from its wide entrance but only to be met by the nothingness of the mist.
"Kyoshi … please be okay" she whispered to herself, resting her head on the rock wall as she continued to scream her sister's name.
[…]
Lefty's continued licking on Jinora's face, slowly stirred the young airbender but not enough to wake her as he yanked at her clothes trying to pull her closer to the shelter he could see form the distant. Upon the sound of Ming's voice he quickened his speed griping tightly onto his friend trying his very best to get her to safety.
Ming almost jumped up at the sight of the two hazy figures of Lefty and Jinora, as she helped the young bison bring her in. She slowly placed her on his sides as she grabbed the now ripped blanket to dab at her wounds.
"Did you see anyone else out their boy, your master? My sister? Kuzon" when she was meet with a slow shake she sighed to herself as she tried her best to tend to her friends wounds and not to let her disappointment quell her attempts at making her better.
"Where are you guys"
Kai's frustrated scream, was weak and full of hopelessness as he clutched onto Jinora's tattered book, which lay next to him in the rain.
Kuzon's worried plea however was yelled more briskly as he held the ailing Kyoshi on his back walking in any direction he thought he heard a response from.
Ming's words were quieter and to herself, she sat by the newly created fire helplessly trying to wake a lifeless Jinora.
