Never Got To Hear Him Play.

a/n: the song is 'Too Much Blood' by the Gaslight Anthem

Chapter 12.

Scourge could play guitar. The notes were rough and fumbling but Manic loved listening to it all the same.

They were at Patch's house drinking their way through two cases of beer when Scourge picked up Patch's battered guitar.

"If any of you laugh I'll beat the hell outta you." Scourge informed them, looking at each of them in turn through narrowed eyes.

He started to strum slowly, clumsily moving up and down the neck and playing different chords. Manic sat there, feeling a step away from smashed and pleasantly surprised. He knew that Scourge liked music but he had no idea that he played guitar. Slowly the chords began to change into steady rhythm as Scourge began to play a song that he didn't recognize. The riff reminded Manic of a mix between blues and classic rock and he found himself listening raptly.

And then Scourge did something that completely blindsided him.

He began to sing.

His voice, a scratchy tenor, would never be called beautiful but Manic loved it anyway.

Manic leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and pretended that Scourge was singing to him.

"Are you scared this sounds familiar?
What if everybody knew the very trials and temptations
That we put ourselves through?
Now I am no angel but I got nothing to hide
Can you say the same thing for yourself tonight? What can I keep for myself if I tell you my hell?
What would be left to take to my grave?
And what's left for you, my lover to save?
What's left for only you to take?
If I put too much blood on the page
If I put too much blood on the page
And if I just tell the truth are there only lies left for you
If I put too much love on the page?"
