I decided to take a brake on the story not because I don't have anymore ideas but because it's Christmas time and I wanted the characters to celebrate it.

This will not change the story line! The story line is still the same and will remain like that until the next update is made. This is just an outtake that I'll do from time to time depending on the different holidays ( french AND american ).

I haven't been to 5th avenue or to any part of Manhattan since I moved back to this country but I'm pretty it hasn't changed that much.

P.S: for the metro I took the info from Google Maps so if it isn't correct don't blame me, blame the internet ( like you ever could :)

For this special chapter you might want to listen to the song:

_The kings are coming ( At Christmas time)

You can listen to it whenever you want during the chapter but I think when there at the pond and before is best even though I don't talk too much about it.

Hope you like it!

Clary's POV

"Jace, come on. Hurry up Jace. There's gonna be nothing left in the shops if you don't hurry." Clary was literally jumping up and down like a kid who was going to open his presents on Christmas morning. Technically it was exactly what she was doing. Except she was going to be giving presents away. And make a memorable Christmas. For all of them.

It would be the first Christmas she spent as a shadowhunter. The first Christmas she would spend with Jace. But most of all it would be the first Christmas the shadowhunters would have.

But for that to happen they had to shopping!

"I don't get why I have to come with you." Jace was acting like a baby again.

"Because Jace, you haven't had a Christmas. And the best part is going shopping."

"But why me?" He was whining.

Jace hated shopping. He did it once with Izzy and it was worse than fighting a greater demon by himself without a seraph blade in hand. It might be better to shop with Clary rather than with Izzy but seeing how excited Clary was and the fact that she was going shopping for a mundane holiday didn't really help with the idea of going shopping.

"Because you're the one who needs to learn more about holidays. I still can't believe you don't know what Christmas is or even who Santa Claus is! How can you not know about Santa Claus? Okay so I know he doesn't really exist but still, how can you not know about him?!"

"So let me get this straight, you're going to torture me for hours because I don't know anything about your mundane holiday or Santa Claus?"

"And also because we have to shop for Alec's, Izzy's, Simon's, Max's and Magnus' presents."

"So you do want to torture me."

Instead of answering Clary just shot him an innocent smile.

"Let's go shopping!" Jace groaned and Clary smirked. This is going to be fun.

"*********"

They took a taxi to Manhattan Mall, 100 W. Broadway at 33rd Street. The mall there was huge. They would have a lot to choose from with shops like JCPenney, Alfaze, Express, Gamestop, etc.

When they got into the mall Jace stopped. He was stunned. I get why he would be. This is a big mall. I really should take him out more.

Clary continued her train of thoughts when she spotted a few teenage girls staring at Jace. Not again. Clary was getting tired of this.

This was the one holiday were she thought people would be more interested in shopping than in boys. Apparently it wasn't the case. Women were still as interested in him as always. The worse part? They never saw her. She could be holding his hand and they would still look at him that way.

At least this time they're young teenagers, about 13-14 years old at best. Too young to worry about.

"Jace? Snap out of it. It's just a mall." Even if it's a huge mall in the middle of Manhattan that might be even bigger than the already big New York institute!

"Huh?" Finally!

"Come on Jace. We don't have time to ogle at the grandiosity of the mall. We have some presents to buy. Other places to visit like 5th avenue, ice skating on The Pond at Bryant Park, more shops to buy stuff some,…"

"What?!"

"Let's shop!"

First stop: Izzy's present. This was going to be hard. Izzy had lots of stuff and to tell you the truth Clary didn't know her that well. They were getting to know each other more and more but she wasn't sure if she knew her enough to find her something that she would like. Choosing her present was very important for Clary because she would see if—even in the short time they've known each other— she knew Izzy's tastes.

They went into the first shop. The first of the many that they would go into. The first of Clary's long list of shops and the first shop that would confirm Jace's descent to hell.

After Izzy's present came the time to shop for Magnus' present. Magnus' present was probably the easiest but at the same time the most challenging because, well, he was old. So he had about everything in the world.

One time Clary even saw a samurai sword in his apartment. A samurai sword! Who even has those anymore? It was a shock to find out that Magnus had one laying around in a corner. Why would Magnus need one when he was a warlock? And a powerful one at that. That was a mystery best left alone.

He even had a signed hat by queen Victoria. The queen herself! And one of her hats! Magnus hasn't even given a second glance to the hat when Clary asked why he had it. For him it wasn't that important to him. He did have a lot of 'junk' as he called it lying around. He didn't care about the stuff. It just proved that Magnus did get around.

So Magnus' present was an enigma for the both of them. They thought about it for a while. Jace had proposed a litter box because Magnus was so into that type of stuff but Clary told him that he already had tons of glitter in is bathroom. Jace suggested clothes but knew it was a bad idea because no one knew Magnus' style except maybe Alec but even Alec didn't know when they called to ask.

After about 10 minutes of intense thinking Clary had found what to get him. It was just her luck that the store she wanted was in this very mall. When she saw the shop she immediately went in leaving Jace to stare at her back wondering what she had found.

A few minutes later Clary came out of the said shop with a triumphal grin plastered on her face and her hand holding Magnus's present.

When Jace saw what it was he was also grinning.

Now it was time to shop for the last Lightwood of the family: Max.

And while they were at it: Simon

Shopping for those two was easy. They liked about the same thing. Clary took care of Simon and Jace of Max.

In the beginning of their complicated relationship Jace was short of jealous of the vampire—jealous of him before he was a vampire obviously. Simon—contrary to Jace— had known Clary all her life.

He basically knew everything about her, what was her favorite color, her favorite food, he was her best friend and he had a crush on her. So yeah, Jace was jealous. But when she chose him instead of Simon he felt, strangely happy. That was before Simon got turned into a vampire and before Izzy fell for him and his…charms. He still had a thing against Simon but now he want to punch him when he saw him getting to close to Clary.

Clary didn't really see what the problem was because seriously, Simon was like a brother to her. She could never be with him, ever. Jace just had a hard believing that. Thank the Angel Izzy liked him.

Plus they kind of looked good together. The immortal nerd with the partygoer killer. It had a nice ring to it. Simon made the girly part of Izzy come out and Izzy made the player come out in Simon. Complete opposites but perfect for each other. Now let's just hope I choose the right present for him.

From where she was looking, she could see that Jace was also struggling to pick out the perfect present for his little brother. Max was always the picky one in the family. If he liked something, his face would illuminate. On the contrary if he didn't, his face would be all gloomy. It really was hard to find the perfect present for someone. At least he stopped complaining.

When they finished their shopping for the two nerd boys they had to shop for Alec. Brother or not, this was going to be hard

" This was officially the worst activity in the world. My feet are so sore I can hardly feel them. Shopping should become a sport."

Clary just rolled her eyes. If only he knew…

"Stop crying like a little baby Jace. It's shopping not a sprint to the top off the mountain while carrying 6 tons on your back in the sun in the middle of the dessrt in summer."

Jace mumbled something like "…well it sure feels like it…"

Clary let her head fall back to let a laugh escape her mouth. He was so funny when he wasn't happy. She almost felt bad for him. Almost being the key word.

"Come on whiney whiner we're not done. We can't got to Manhattan without shopping on the fifth avenue."

Jace's groan was heard from the other side of the mall. A few peopke turned around to see what the fuss was about "Not more shopping! I can't take it anymore Clary. I'm wiped out. I can hardly stand up let alone do another…" he glanced at the big clock "…4 hours of shopping. What?! 4 hour s of shopping?! How is that even possible to do shopping for 4 straight hours?!"

Instead of answering, Clary just pulled on Jace's hand to bring him closer to her a place a chastised kiss on his lips to try and calm him down. Well it worked because when they broke apart his shoulders were relaxed and he wasn't holding the bags so tightly.

"Tell you what, let's go ice skating first and resume shopping later. Okay?"

Jace just nodded. Yeah did it sound a bit better. Maybe he could just watch Clary while he sat down resting his sore feet.

"Alright then."

Once they got out of the mall they had to go to Bryant Park without taking a cab. This was the worst task they had yet to accomplish. They could either walk their or take the subway. Jace voted to take the subway but Clary was a bit suspicious of the subway.

What if they got off on the wrong stop? Or worse what if someone stole their bags? But on the other hand she had never taken the subway. Her mother never let her and the shadowhunters either got portaled from the institute to the desired destination or they took a cab. For either one of them the subway would be a big first.

So they took the subway. It wasn't too hard. They walked to 34 St- Herald Sq. They took the subway towards Norwood- 205 St. When they got out on 42 St- Bryant Park, they walked to Citi Pond At Bryant Park 1065 Avenue of the Americas New.

And there is was. The pond. The ice rink, the one they soon would be skating on. The rink was half empty. A few kids were skating — trying to skate—on the side lines. The couples were in the center holding each other's hands skating like professionals. It was extremely romantic. The families were laughing at one another either because one of them fell or simply because they were having a good time together, as a family. This was what Christmas was all about. People enjoying other peoples company and having fun.

"Come on Jace. Put on some skates"

"Clary I'm not sure I want to. Why don't I sit here and watch you skate?"

"I didn't come here so you could sit down and look at me all day. If that's what I wanted I would have just sat us in front of a movie. Now come on."

A defeated sigh escaped Jace's lips " Fine."

"Here. These skates are your size. Be careful with the blades, their sharp."

Jace mumbled a few words while putting on the skates. After 10 minutes of lacing they were finally on the ice. Jace held on to Clary the whole entire time. He might be good at a lot of stuff but skating wasn't one of them. It felt weird to have to move your feet on ice and feel like your slipping every time you move your feet.

Jace got the hang of it after a while dared to let go of Clary's hand. He didn't do a double spin but he didn't fall either so for him it was a victory. He spent several moments on his own before taking Clary's hand again. Together, they skated a little faster; too fast for Jace's liking but not fast enough for Clary.

Jace intertwined his fingers with Clary's and for a few moments they melted into the crowd of the other couples. They were so good together. But, as usual, the beauty couldn't last because soon Jace feet hurt so much he almost wanted to scream. Again, almost being the key word.

So Clary made him sit down on a bench and continued skating. I don't think I need to tell you how beautiful she was skating out there and doing a few spins in the middle of the rink. All you need to know is that she was happy doing a mundane hobby.

"Wake up. Jace, wake up. I'm done. We can continue our shopping spree now."

"…."

"Jace….don't start again. Think of it this way; the faster we shop, the faster we can go home."

Jace was up and alert in the seconds that followed her sentence. This was great news for him. Clary just found it hilarious. He would do anything to go home. Too bad he doesn't know that he's gonna have to help me decorate. He is going to wish he had magic on his side when he knows. Clary could be cruel when she wanted to be.

"Clary, Claryyyy. Wake up. I'm waiting…" He drummed his fingers on his hips. He is gonna regret it.

Why haven't I come here before? I love this street! I love it I love it I love it! I bet Izzy will adore it. She loves shopping even more then I do. Since I don't like shopping for anything except for gifts she will love this street. Why haven't I come here before?

5th avenue was…it was…5th avenue! It was magnificent. Clary had never done more window shopping in her life than right there. And there was a lot of window shopping to do. The decorations rendered them speechless. Which was shocking because not long before Jace was complaining yet again about shopping.

Some of the shops had managed to decorate the whole entire building with flowers and star shaped lights. Another one had ribbons one every wall. It must have been hell to put up. The ribbons were all bright red. They also found a building decorated with snakes. Two gigantic snakes that met each other at the end. It was a bit creepy.

The shops that didn't decorate the outside of the building decorated the shop windows. If you can even call it decorating. For them it was a whole entire makeover. The floors would be covered in snow. There would be tree trunks as walls. And in the middle would be a deer. That's how Tiffany's had decorated their window. For the others they would be simpler decorations: a big Christmas tree, Santa Claus, a sleigh with reindeers or simply some presents. Each shop had its own decorations.

Once the young couple finished ogling the shops they started walking. They didn't come here to shop—well at least Jace hoped so—but just to see the world wide famous street with their own eyes. Basically they were just visiting the street.

They would be walking a lot more in that specific street than they did in the mall.

"I am never, never ever, going shopping with you around December ever again!"

"It wasn't that bad Jace. At least you got to see a little bit of Manhattan."

"I can see Manhattan, from my bedroom window!"

"But—"

"No buts. I am not going shopping with you around Christmas time period!"

"Fine. Okay. If you say so." She held up her hands in surrender.

"Good. So now I'm going to sit down in this very couch and not move for the next 3 days."

"Great! So let's start decorating!"

"What?!

"Yes Jace decorating. We have to put ornaments on the tree; we have to wrap the presents."

"But…but we don't have a tree!" He smirked thinking he'd won.

"Are you sure about that?" Clary smirked in response.

"Yes…." Clary was confusing him.

"Are you so sure about that that you would bet, um… let's say…wearing one of Izzy's dresses for a day?"

Jace gulped but held on high "Yes I'm sure."

"Well then Jace Lightwood when do you want to become a girl?" When he didn't answer she added "Turn around Jace."

True to her words behind him was the tree. Jace swore like never he had before.

"That one doesn't count."

"Of course it does Jace. You lost on your own there."

"What did Jace loose?" Jace groaned when Izzy joined into the conversation.

"He lost a bet." Clary was having fun torturing him.

"What was it?" Izzy asked eagerly. Jace almost never lost anything.

"He bet that there wasn't a tree in the main room. I bet the opposite. He lost."

"What does he have to do?"

"He has to wear one of your dresses for a day." Clary was waiting for Izzy's reaction. Izzy could be worse than a greater demon when it came to clothes.

After a few minutes of silence "That's a great idea! I have just the dress for him! When are you supposed to wear the dress Jace?"

Jace was seething. He was hoping Isabelle would say no to the idea but of course she had to say yes.

Clary let out a relived sigh. She was hoping Izzy would react this way but she was never sure of herself when it came to Izzy. She should have known Izzy would love the idea. She likes torturing Jace as much as she did.

"He hasn't figured out yet when to wear it but it has to be for a day and everyone has to see it!" Yup, you got to love torture.

"WHAT?!" Jace was out of his seat in no time. Clary just glared at him and he shut up. Izzy watched the exchange. They were cute together.

"Izzy will you help us decorate the tree?"

"Sure"

They spent the rest of the evening decorating the tree. While the two Lightwood were occupied decorating Clary left the room to wrap every ones presents. She had found Jace's present while looking for Simon's. This would be a hilarious Christmas morning.

"Jace, Clary get up!" Max was banging on their respective doors.

"Get up. The presents are waiting to be opened. I want my present! Get up get up get up!"

"Urgh." Both Jace and Clary said that at the same time. They got out of their comfortable bed, Jace's bed and put on some slippers—well Clary did. Jace stayed bare foot.

"We're…" Clary yawned "…coming…"

"Hurry up Simon is waiting for us in the Sanctuary. Hurry up." They could both see that Max adored presents. They would never miss another Christmas again.

"Hey lovebirds. You guys finally decided to show up I see."

"Stop talking Magnus. At least we didn't start sexting each other while the parents were in the room talking to the said person." Alec blushed and Magnus laughed.

"Touché my dear Clarissa, touché." Clary smirked and Magnus bowed in her direction.

"Yeah yeah yeah. Bla bla bla… Can we open our presents now?" Max really was eager.

"Wow easy there tiger. What's the rush?" Jace was a teaser when he wanted to be.

"Maybe I wanna know if my brother knows me well enough to pick out something for me."

"Oh don't worry about that Max. Here, open it." Jace presented Max with his gift.

Max took it eagerly and ripped the wrapping paper. As suspected he got manga books but seeing the look on Max's face was priceless.

"Told y'a I knew you. I don't really know the difference between these mangas and the other ones but—"

"Thank you thank you thank you so much Jace. I've always wanted this. Thank you." And then Max lost himself in his books.

"Well then who's next?" Magnus asked.

"Here Magnus. Hope you like it." Magnus' present was way smaller than Max's.

A ear piercing scream could be heard from a mile away. When he wanted to Magnus could scream.

"YOU GOT TICKETS TO AN ADAM LAMBERT CONCERT!?"

"Um….yes?" Clary and Jace weren't expecting this.

"Why did you have to do that? Now I'm gonna have to go with him to the concert and listen to him talk about Adam something for months at least!"

"Oh do stop whining Alexander."

"Jace, Clary thank you so much. This is the one thing I never thought about."

"Thank Clary not me. I didn't do anything. I just sat down while she was getting your gift."

"That's true. He did just sit down. I did all the hard work."

"Well then thank you Clary. And don't worry Jace we'll find you the perfect dress."

"Hey." Everyone laughed except Jace.

"Here Jace, this one's for you." He took the present without a word. He's cute when he tries to be mad.

Jace pouted even more when he opened his present. It was a book: how to be handsome for dummies.

This time everyone laughed including Jace. They continued opening presents until there wasn't anything else to open anymore. They spent the rest of the day enjoying each other's company and they had a typical Christmas meal—Simon just watched them eat but got a bit of animal blood, Jace's present to him. Who knew Jace could be kind to a vampire?
